Today: Hidden Insights From The Feast of FirstFruits.

Clearly, Jesus was the firstfruits from the dead. He is our bread of life. He brings us thru the waters of baptism into the new kingdom. Let’s not skip over that.

but also, there is more than the flatfooted assertion that First Fruits was in Passover. It is. It is not in Pentecost as we were taught.

However, there is a connection. FirstFruits begins the counting of the omer. Today this is merely counting of 49 days until Pentecost,where another first fruits sare waved. That is the wheat harvest, baked with leaven, while FirstFruits waves barley sheaves. Originally, the omer was a volume measurement of grain, offered each day in the Temple. Again, we see the harvcest which we are, hidden in the feast ritual, just as Jesus Messiah was hidden in so many ways.

Comment: Yes! I found the verse that made me question my earlier, correct, discovery. Yes, The Feast of FirstFruits is after the Sabbath in or just after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which of course is immediately right after and connected to Passover. This is contrary to what we were taught in the Move, but well known elsewhere. (Yes, more recently, there have been some preachers who preach this correctly, but I was sitting under Sam Fife.) So: here is the verse that I ran across in my recent readings: Numbers 28:26 (NIV) “On the day of firstfruits, when you present to the LORD an offering of new grain during the Feast of Weeks, hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.”

Here is the explanation. In Numbers, mentioned is Passover, Weeks, Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles. The Feast of Weeks or Pentecost does include waving first fruits of the wheat harvest, in leavened cakes. That is 5. The First of FirstFruits includes waving sheafs of barley. Lev 23 includes The Passover & Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Feast of Weeks, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonment, Feast of Tabernacles. That is 7. (Of course, we also think of Spring Feasts, Feast of Weeks, and Fall Festivals, being 3. Of course Move trained people recognize the 3 and 7 from the Tabernacle. When we hear 5, we think of the 5 fold.)

The point for me at this time is that Firstfruits is the hidden resurrection. And the counting of the omer until the next waving of the firstfruits of grain, and this time with leaven — that is the hidden sonship of the church.

Possibly the last in my series on feasts. Finally! One on Passover. And not boring. Yes, Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.

But check this out. This is how God sums up the Passover story: Exodus 20:2 “I took you out of the house of slavery.” (Then goes into the 10 Commandments.)

So, what does that mean in terms of us living out the meaning of the feasts? Are we out of the house of slavery? Hmm? How many Christians do you hear saying that we must sin every day? How much are we living out freedom? But there is more. There is liberty. That is why the Israelites, just coming off Passover and the Red Sea, next hear about The Law. Why? Because God was taking them into the land — to be a blessed nation.

Okay, so we know about passing over from judgement to grace. We know about the Feast of Unleavened Bread, where we purge out sin, pride… (and oh, wrath and malice which also grows)… and live in rest. Do we know about rest? Tell me if you know.

What about passing over into the land? Into Freedom? Into Liberty?

But then, what about going into the land? Does that mean finances only? Really? What about “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” What does that mean? Where have we seeen that? Any lands, guided by the gospel of freedom with law? Oh yes!

Oh! How could a prayer series not include praying in “tongues”? Well, seldom in a series on kinds of prayer is tongues considered. But it should be. It is the perfect prayer!

So, I have made an unbiased, balanced, Biblical introduction. Some stories are ridiculous. Others might be some criticism of the classical pentecostal view. However, the view comes the closest to the entire record. The solution to what seems to be the problem of “no, you can’t get saved without the Holy Spirit” is yes — Holy Spirit must be convicting and leading you for you to get saved. Yes, the Holy Spirit must be in you for you to live the Christian life. However, Holy Spirit must be on you for power for service –and great if it is overflowing! And guess what, it seems that the Greek New Testament has different prepositions just like that: with, in, and on.

And why would you like to make a story to let you off the gift of Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts of Holy Spirit manifestation? That makes NO sense.

And, also good news, it is easy. Because it is a gift.

What does the Bible say about the “decree & declare” method of praying? Well, let’s go into that.

I know this is the most popular form of prayer now. There is Biblical basis for it.

However, the amount of volume or oratory eloquence is not the measure of power. Only Holy Spirit, which may issue in boldness. Let’ just be sure our decrees are based on the Word of God, either written or spoken directly to our heart. Yes, that will give us boldness.

Go forth, rooted in The Vine, the Word, our dear Lord.

Today, coming close to finishing up our series on different kinds of prayer, we consider Deliverance prayer. Yes, we cover the basics, but then we make considerations that I have never heard before. Normally, Deliverance is associated withe the study of demons. How about let’s considering our authority in and representation of Jesus?

Less doubt, more confidence, more deliverance. We are delivered from the kingdom of darkness and transferred to the Kingdom of Light, the Kingdom of His Dear Son. Amen.

I sure haven’t realized it until just now.

Sister Ruth Ward Heflin, and since then, also Julie Green, wonderful worship leader, has talked about worship as a method to bring the glory.

You know I like definite techniques. So much blah blah blah, but not much getting done. A lot of “how to” tapes I have purchased from ministers were really only “you can” which is nice, but I knew that. I wanted secrets on how to. Here is a big secret. And we sort of knew it, didn’t we? Let’s worship.

Now the post that everyone has been waiting for: the one for how to pray with more authority. Once the church focused on petition, but not with much faith or teaching. Now, the same with authority. Well, fine, we are like little children, learning to walk. Ok. To pray in authority, it is helpful to know the Scriptures that give us authority. So, we cover that here.

Also, it is helpful to have the rest of spiritual life in order, and we do not cover that extensively. Hear from the Spirit and walk in the Spirit. But not necessary to feel all spiritual. Don’t be in unconfessed sin and be sure you are not in unforgiveness — which might feel more like resentment. Forgiveness is NOT saying someone was right, but it is giving the judgement and the dealing with it to God.

It is also helpful to know and “work” the other kinds of prayer. We should take a soldierly view: train in all the kinds of prayer. TRAIN like a soldier. Be able to do it without looking. So, when fired upon, no thinking is necessary, but instead, the training takes over.

It helps to have a cadre. Soldiers know this. Even SpecOps works in groups. O! Lord! Show me some people who are serious Christians. Thank you SO MUCH for knowing a few. I know they are busy. So am I! Make me a good soldier in THE WAY also! Give us times of refreshing. Help us to learn — and pray — seriously!

Working through kinds of prayer, today we consider the prayer of consecration.

Some people like Samuel and Isaiah and Paul were consecrated to the Lord. We might even meet some people who inspire us with their consecration to the Lord. Certainly, Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane will be a greatest example of consecration: “Not my will but Thine be done.”

Let us live this live this adventure of giving our lives to God.

You probably have heard about Hanukah, the winter festival of the Jews in which they light the menorah. However, you probably don’t know the story of the Maccabees behind it. There is lots to learn.

First, I tell you the basic history, and then a little about how the rabbis interpret it, and how the Jews celebrate today. Then, I offer some thought questions.

The wildest thing is how it parallels today! Stick with it to the end. Then, really think. What were the issues then? Now? So, what does it mean to be faithful to YHWH?

Notice, that the Macabees were lauded for serving the good of the whole even at cost to themselves. But wouldn’t have the Antiochus officials said that they should have Hellenized and gone along, and given them more money? Sometimes you judge how much someone has contributed by how much they lost and not how much they gained.

Teaser: I didn’t find the miracle of the oil in I Maccabees. Not in II Maccabees. Hmmm. But I did read about the Battle of Emmaus! Wow!

Today we define and explain the original Feast of Tabernacles, also called the Feast of Booths, or Sukkoth. We talked about how Jesus fulfilled this feast also, in being Emmanuel, God with us. We talk about the not yet of the prophetic meaning of the end-times. That eschatological means is proleptic: both now and not yet. The real point is the real walking out spiritually now. It is one thing to say that, but what does that look like? How is it done?

Answer: It looks like Jesus. And what was his first foot forward? And How is it done? The inner work of laying it all on the altar. Oh my goodness … old words with disappointment on them.
