Shadow work is a great way toexplore what happens when our need to be liked keeps us from being real.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph begin with a literal light-and-shadow practice and move into the deeper truth of emotional shadow work: what we hide to stay safe. Georgianna shares a powerful story about her son saying he wanted to “saw his brother in half” — and how meeting that truth with compassion revealed what all humans need when we’re at our most raw. Steph reflects on her own learned “niceness” and how she used intellectual kindness to cover frustration and fear, creating emotional dissonance and disconnection.

Together, they explore how people-pleasing and palatability develop as protective strategies, how they block intimacy, and how self-awareness turns those patterns into power. From relationships to parenting to personal growth, they show what it really means to be fully human — not just polite.

Discover how:

  • Niceness can become a mask that hides our needs
  • Shadow work reveals the light we’ve hidden to stay safe
  • Real connection grows when we stop performing “fine”

"The best therapy I've ever done for myself." – Sanjeev B.

Fault-finding is a typical — and unhelpful — way to bring our critical energy into relationships.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph explore the tension between seeing what’s wrong and allowing what’s right. Georgianna shares the moment she caught herself ready to correct her partner mid-kindness and realized her old habit of “quality control” was blocking closeness. Steph reflects on her childhood training to “help by fixing,” how she swung to the other extreme of never offering input, and what balance feels like now.

Together they reveal how nitpicking acts as low-grade fight energy, how compassion turns critique into connection, and how letting people win with you makes relationships feel safe again — for both sides.

Discover how:

  • Awareness turns criticism into choice and trust
  • Nitpicking reveals unspoken fight energy ready to move
  • Ease and connection grow when you practice seeing what’s working

Boundaries begin in the body — it sounds simple, but when you say it out loud with your whole self, everything changes.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph share a powerful practice for clarity and boundaries. Georgianna tells the story of how she rediscovered her playful “wiggle” — a part of herself she had long shut down to seem proper — and how reclaiming it brought joy and authenticity back into her body. Steph reflects on finding mental peace in dangerous chaos (like speeding through highway traffic) and how she learned safer ways to quiet her mind through embodied focus.

Together, they guide you through an easy practice to explore how declarations land differently when spoken out loud, why embodied no’s don’t need fight energy, and how this simple movement can rewire your sense of self-trust and connection.

Discover how:

  • Speaking needs and boundaries out loud clarifies them in seconds
  • Your body reveals what’s true more reliably than your thoughts
  • Simple movement paired with words can shift long-held patterns

Your Energy Is Contagious — and most of us underestimate just how much impact we have in everyday moments.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna shares the story of Bella — a grocery store clerk whose genuine warmth became a community-wide treasure, showing how even a 30-second exchange can shift someone’s whole day. Steph reflects on how a simple awareness of “frowny face” energy changed the dynamic in her past relationship, and how noticing what we transmit opens space for intentional choice.

Together, they explore the spectrum of energy from “love hubs” to protective blockers, why both are human and valid, and how practices like Metta (loving kindness) let us extend care to others even when we’re alone. They also share how their own patterns — from Steph’s life-of-the-party mask to Georgianna’s childhood role as family mediator — shaped the energies they learned to embody, and how they’ve reclaimed freedom to be real, human, and intentional in what they share now.

Discover how:

  • Everyday moments ripple into big emotional impact
  • Awareness of your “default energy” gives you back choice
  • Loving kindness practices expand your presence beyond the room

The Threshold Moments Recipe is a simple, playful way to move from stress mode to presence mode — in less than a minute.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph share a body-based “recipe” for threshold moments: the times when we move from one swirl of life into another. Georgianna tells stories of running errands, picking up her kids, and walking into a chaotic house — and how skipping her reset always escalated tension. Steph reflects on her need to add sensory ingredients (like squeezing her hands and feeling her feet) to truly land in the moment, and how these micro-practices keep her from spiraling into reactivity.

Together, they guide you through a sequence of seat awareness, shoulder rolls, thumping, and a simple acupressure point — and show how to adapt it for your own wiring, your family, or even your kids. This isn’t about performing calm. It’s about creating a pause so you can enter the next space with more steadiness and choice.

Discover how:

  • Threshold moments shape the energy you bring into relationships
  • A one-minute “recipe” can prevent stress from escalating at home
  • Simple practices can be playful, adaptable, and even fun to teach others

"My Energy Is Not For ___" isn’t just a catchy phrase — it’s a powerful practice for protecting your peace.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph reflect on Taylor Swift’s viral clip about treating your energy like gold, and how it stirred up deep insights about purpose, boundaries, and choice. Steph shares candid reflections on disappointing others, codependency, and her need to conserve energy for work that truly matters. Georgianna opens up about years spent ruminating after heartbreak — and how she learned to protect the hard-won peace she built through nervous system work and self-compassion.

Together, they explore how to identify what your energy is not for, what it is for, and how to bring that awareness into the next five minutes — not just the next decade.

Discover how:

  • Naming “my energy is not for…” can clarify boundaries in seconds
  • Rumination drains precious energy — and how to shift out of it
  • Small energy audits help align your daily choices with your deeper purpose

And What Else isn’t just a question — it’s a powerful nervous system tool for shifting how we experience our world.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph share stories of using this simple practice to interrupt old patterns of compounding pain and avoiding discomfort. Georgianna tells the story of a gym session where she asked for deep pressure support to create a nervous system reset. Steph reflects on how numbing and spiraling kept her from actually feeling her feelings, and how “and what else” builds real capacity to sit with what’s hard — without being swallowed by it.

Together, they explore how to notice neutral or pleasant sensations alongside the difficult ones, why this practice grows awe for what’s possible, and how to reclaim even a single breath of relief as a victory.

Discover how:

  • “And what else” interrupts spirals and creates new options
  • Pleasant sensations expand your capacity for the hard ones
  • Growing micro-moments of ease rewires your nervous system for resilience

The feeling that you're bad, wrong, caught out or in trouble can show up anywhere — even just from a notification popping up on your phone. In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph explore why so many of us feel instantly “in trouble” when we get a message or hear the words we need to talk.

They share personal stories of how these shame-laced body memories form — from Georgianna’s childhood in a home where criticism felt like love, to her later reparative experiences that changed her entire response to messages from friends. Steph reflects on how her own patterns of only reaching out when something was wrong created a dynamic she later had to unlearn — and how even her father, in his seventies, still admitted to feeling “like a five-year-old in trouble” when criticized at work.

Together, they explore how these reflexes get passed down in families, why noticing “what’s the same and what’s different” is such a powerful tool for nervous system repair, and how practicing contrast (pleasant vs. unpleasant sensations) can slowly rewire us toward safety, neutrality, and even joy.

Discover how:

  • Childhood shame patterns wire us to expect trouble
  • Reparative experiences can gently change old body memories
  • Family patterns shape what we expect in connection
  • Simple contrasts can open the door to freedom and choice

The Attachment Dance is more than a metaphor — it’s a playful practice that reveals some of the deepest patterns in how we relate.

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph share personal stories about mothers, partners, and friendships that highlight the subtle ways we each handle togetherness and separation — from long lingering goodbyes to quick “good day to you, sir” exits. They explore how childhood imprints show up in adult relationships, why hellos and goodbyes matter so much to our nervous systems, and how even the smallest rituals of connection can repair and rewire intimacy.

Discover how:

  • A simple movement practice can reveal your attachment patterns
  • Autonomy and closeness can both be honored without blame
  • Small rituals of hello and goodbye can soothe old wounds and grow connection

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph explore how to stop a bad day from taking over — starting with the moment you notice yourself getting “crunchy.”

Georgianna shares two stories: discovering how a simple Heart 7 acupressure point helped her recover her breath and calm her system on a hot uphill bike ride, and how asking for a hug on a noisy Vancouver sidewalk shifted an entire day from irritable to connected. Steph reflects on her own history of craving anxious caretaking and how learning to receive undramatic presence has changed her relationships.

Together, they break down the skills of noticing, naming, and resetting — including how co-regulation works best when you know what’s regulating for you and your people.

Discover how:

  • Noticing early “crunchy” signals can keep them from escalating
  • Co-regulation can deepen connection instead of fueling drama
  • Tiny tools like breath cycles or acupressure can shift your whole day

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph explore how urgency often masks discomfort — and how building the capacity to pause can transform your relationships and self-connection.

Georgianna shares a story about resisting the pull to resolve relationship tension in the middle of the night, choosing instead to stay with her own sensations until the moment felt right. Steph reflects on her past patterns of relational urgency, codependency, and drama-fueled timing, and how she’s learning to embrace the pause as a tool for genuine connection.

Together, they walk through everyday ways to grow this capacity — from breathing through physical tension, to sitting with emotional discomfort, to choosing intention over impulse when it matters most.

Discover how:

  • Urgency often serves anxiety, not connection
  • Simple body-based practices can build your “pause muscle”
  • Staying with discomfort creates more choice in how you respond

In this episode of Wholehearted Loving, Georgianna and Steph explore one of the most transformative (and surprisingly simple) tools in relational healing: saying things out loud.

They share personal stories of how naming the truth — even clumsily, even late — creates clarity, soothes conflict, and deepens connection. From stories of oversharing to boundary-finding and parenting with presence, they walk through how narrating your inner world can change how you relate to everything around you (and how everything around you relates back).

Discover how:

Naming your feelings helps you feel less alone
Narrating your day helps you build better boundaries
To express your truth without blaming or performing

In this honest and laughter-filled episode, Georgianna and Steph explore how we get conditioned into busy, pressured ways of being — and how hard it can be to even notice that something feels bad when it’s all we’ve ever known.

Georgianna shares the story of how Chinese school on Sundays when she was a kid left her feeling like there was always something else to do — a feeling she later replicated in adulthood through jam-packed days, over-functioning, and last-minute scrambling. Steph offers her own version: how she misinterpreted ease as laziness until realizing her minimalist approach had real wisdom.

Together, they unpack why contrast is essential for rewiring your body’s expectations — and how simple body-based tools can quietly shift what you believe is possible. If you’ve ever wondered why slowing down feels wrong, or why you can't seem to bring more peace to your daily flow, this conversation will hit home.

  • Learn how pressure becomes your body’s default — and how to shift it
  • Discover how to find a new, better-feeling baseline through contrast and simple practice
  • Replace shame-based motivation with compassionate incentives that move you to act from internal motivation instead of outside pressure.

When we’re getting to know people, and even when relating with people we know well, it’s a natural tendency to project our subconscious beliefs onto them and the situation — that is, to make sense of what’s happening by referring to our previous life experience and making assumptions accordingly. It’s only by being in the moment, and noticing the feedback our regulated bodies give us, that we can interrupt our stories, fears and egos to really be with each other.

In today's episode, we talk about some of our past meaning-making in relationships, the evolution we've experienced so far, and the tools we've used to gain presence and clarity in every moment.

It’s easy to judge ourselves against others when it comes to how we keep our homes — why can’t I keep my place as clean as so-and-so, when we’re both equally busy? (Or vice versa.) We’re quick to find ourselves lacking and others superior (and vice versa.) The feelings and stories that comprise these judgments are wealth of information for self-discovery and a great opportunity to practice compassion, within and without.

In today's episode we explore the judgments we know you have, about yourself and others, exploring the causes and effects of the beliefs we carry and the choices that result.

Depending on how you’re wired, you might be inclined to point the finger outward — or inward — when things go wrong, when you’re startled, or when plans don’t turn out as expected. When crisis strikes and we’re startled or scared, it’s a very natural human response to forget everything we’ve learned to do in such scenarios, and to freeze instead. Then, in the aftermath, we can be so hard on ourselves — about how we ought to have acted, and how quickly we ought to “return to normal”. In today's episode we propose a compassionate approach instead, and taking your time to feel and integrate scary experiences.

Noticing moments of love and care when times are (or were) hard, is a powerful tool for expansion and self-soothing. With that aim, it’s a gift to ourselves to feel the sensations of loving care in the moment or in memory — to feel them in the body and hang out there for a spell. And it’s yet another gift to feel the sensations of simply knowing that love and care are/were available. In today's episode we share some personal examples and show you how you can find more love and good feelings, even through the hard stuff.

But often, they aren’t, and we need to find our own path. Growing up, we learn “how things are”; getting older, we learn there a million ways other than the ones we know. This holds true for most of our unexamined beliefs about the world — and when we feel overwhelmed, lost, or restricted in our lives and relationships, that can be a sign it’s time to turn on the curiosity and open up to new possibilities.

In today's episode, we walk through reframing a concept that had Steph stymied, and how she came to think of it in a way that felt less overwhelming and immobilizing, and more empowering and true.

As with most of life, that which we believe to be a waste of time is learned and conditioned in us from a young age. What feels good or bad when it comes to being productive, to resting, to maximizing efficiency (or not) is totally subjective, with endless options. Examining your current beliefs in these areas is useful if you want to feel more ease and spaciousness in your life and relationships. In today's episode, we talk about things we used to think were a waste of time which we now find valuable for reasons we couldn't conceive of then — high ROI time-wasters like pausing, slowing down, resting, and making space for silence and creativity.**********Every episode comes with prompts for journaling and reflection. We all have pre-conditioned — and optional — reactions when things go wrong, or when plans get changed. The reactions we’ve grown into, either learned from our families of origin or our past experiences, can easily be shifted when we learn to listen to our bodies and make slight, simple adjustments. Discovering and embracing our current reactions is key in learning to respond instead, with self-love and compassion.

In today's episode we talk about our own trajectories from anxiety and control reactions, to more helpful, better-feeling responses — how we got there, and how you can too.

It might feel normal, or like second nature, to shut down, dissociate, and otherwise leave the building when circumstances find us in a place of sensory overload. Those tools can certainly be of service, but when we want to be more present and embodied in our lives and relationships, we must call ourselves into the service of our bodies and grow our innate capacity to be with overwhelm. In today's episode we walk you through some practices to help with overstimulating situations and environments.

An integrated, whole-self approach to decision-making requires us to notice how our bodies respond to (or generate) a false sense of pressure or urgency — and to grow our capacity to be with those feelings instead of acting on them. We clear a path forward by acknowledging all the what-ifs and validating all the fears, thereby creating space for excitement, truth and possibility. In today's episode we talk about how pressures manifest in the body, and how to find your way through.

There are times in life where we must bear burdens that feel heavy — even too heavy — to hold. In the meantime, let us not take on extra pressure that’s optional and unnecessary! This is your invitation to notice where you’re feeling weighed down or put upon, and to make some gentle shifts to help you drop the shoulds and the pressure, or carry any added weight with the help of others.

In today's episode, we talk about our own optional pressures and how we've learned to lean into deeper comfort, less pressure, and more support from loved ones.

We all project our past experiences onto the present, and into the future. If no one seemed to listen to you when you were growing up, why would they listen now? So we prepare ourselves to have the same experiences, and we defend against the pain that causes us. BUT — we are not our past, and every moment is new. Taking stock of our starting assumptions, and the ways our minds & bodies process them, is a great step toward living in the now. In today's episode we share some practices and reframes for staying in the present, and with your body, when it comes time to have challenging conversations.

The feeling of being burdened or weighed down is a very subjective thing. What feels like a gift to you might be a burden to someone else, and vice versa. In life and love, we bestow gifts/burdens on each other all the time — learning how to express it when you’re feeling weighed down or put out is a liberating part of bringing your whole self to relationships.

In today's episode, we talk about acknowledging and sharing the impacts of burdens in our lives, and give you a series of prompts to help you explore this for yourself.

Most of us are prone to bypassing big feelings, including relishing gifts and facing burdens. Sometimes, what’s intended as a gift can be received as a burden — and vice versa. To be fully with ourselves, and to be represented fully in relationships, it’s important to appreciate what we’ve been given, and acknowledge what’s been heavy or challenging to hold. In today's episode we talk about our experiences exploring this for ourselves, and the impacts this practice has had on us and our clients.

It can be hard to grow and change when people around us want things to stay the same. Personal growth challenges us to hold space for grief and possibility — releasing who and what no longer serves us, and trusting a more aligned future to unfold, with relationships that nourish us at a soul level. This is a call to celebrate those who are ready and willing to join us, to honour those who aren’t, and to deepen into self-compassion.

In today's episode, we talk about how these challenges can manifest, and how to stay on path with our healing while finding the love and support we need for the journey.

We’ve all been conditioned to express ourselves in ways that protect us from the fear of losing love and connection — this can disconnect us from our own feelings and needs, and makes it hard to know or share our boundaries. It can be so easy to bypass the joy of relief — we’re all busy, with a lot to do and think about. We seek the feeling of relief, and yet, when it comes, we tend to miss it — in favour of whatever comes next, or some other thing we have to worry over. But with a bit of practice, you can catch that feeling of relief as it happens, and savour the moment — and bring more peace into your life and relationships. In today's episode we walk through some relief techniques and skills we've grown to be with the feeling of relief for longer than we previously thought possible.

Most of us tend to feel a charge when someone tells us “we need to talk”, and we tend to bring that charge — along with all the assumptions, emotions, and defenses that ensue — into the conversation with us. Getting curious (and compassionate) about our patterns here is a great way to start clearing the space between us, for deeper, more honest connection and mutual understanding. In today's episode, we talk about our own experiences growing into difficult conversations, and building our capacity to be kind and direct with the ones we love.

We all have learned responses to anger — our own anger, and other people’s. We also have patterns for how we manage anger when we’re regulated, and when we’re not. Growing our capacities to be with feelings of anger (and what’s underneath them) is a key for compassionate parenting and conscious relationships.

In today's episode we talk about the differences between being with anger, and wanting to stop an anger response, and how you can bring more compassion to all of it.

We all have different responses when we make mistakes, which depend on the “quality” of mistake, our experiences being “wrong” or inconveniencing others, and the state of our nervous systems. Taking stock of your current go-to thoughts and actions when a mistake is made is a great start for moving toward healthy, helpful responses — so you can more peacefully get on with your life when a mistake is made. Today we talk about mistakes we've made, how we move past them, and a series of questions you can ask yourself when a mistake is made:•What feelings/thoughts arise?•Am I afraid to admit this mistake? Why?•In the grand scheme of life, how important is this?•How likely is it that others have made a similar mistake?•What led to this happening?•How can I remedy this or offer a repair?•What does this mistake tell me about what’s going on in my life? About what I need?•Do I see a pattern of making this type of mistake repeatedly? What is that showing me might need to change?•What can I learn from this, or do differently in future?•What can I choose to focus on now?**********Every episode comes with prompts for journaling and reflection. Asking for help when we’re at our absolute limit is commonplace — so is only expressing ourselves when we have something to celebrate or complain about. What if we could share of ourselves, and ask for support and comfort, before we’re at the edge? When we don’t have any immediate “value” to add? Mapping your current relationship with asking and sharing is a good place to start.

In today's episode we talk about simple ways to grow these muscles, and our experiences making tiny requests that let people into our worlds.

Rewiring your nervous system and learning to bring presence to the moment doesn’t happen while you’re in crisis — it’s something you practice before the big game, so your body can begin to learn new ways to respond to triggers. Practicing while you’re feeling steady grows your capacity to bring these tools to life when you’re not.

In today's episode we talk about simple practices we used to grow our own skills in these areas, and how you can bring body-based self-connection tools into your daily life.

We often try to ease fear, anger and anxiety by unloading our feelings and seeking resolution with others. Sometimes this is helpful, but sometimes it isn’t. When we’re feeling big feelings, it’s important to map our current patterns and conditioned responses, to regulate our nervous systems, and to seek reality checks from loved ones who have the time and energy — leaning in to love, trust, and compassion.

In today's episode we talk about our own experiences with anxious communication and demanding resolution now — like sending AND receiving barrages of unhelpful text messages at 3am — and how we learned more graceful ways to be with big feelings.

When we’re in pain or experiencing emotional turmoil, it’s pretty standard practice for humans to cast around for yet more pain to fuel the fire — we keep adding logs until we have a raging bonfire that shows no signs of burning out. What if we were to burn through one log at a time instead? What if we felt all those feelings fully, without piling more on top?

In today's episode we talk about experiences managing emotional bonfires — our own, and other people's — and learning to handle one log at a time.

Many of us have only experienced boundaries drawn in mean and aggressive ways; many of us have experienced boundaries not being drawn at all, and; many, many of us have trouble expressing our own boundaries in helpful, loving ways. “Boundary-muscles” need to be grown like any other, and taking stock of your own experiences with boundaries supports the process.

In today's episode we talk about the ways people commonly establish boundaries, and the trajectory of learning how to discover and share boundaries in ways that serve you and your relationships best.

In 2024, feeling “personally attacked” can mean being seen in a good way, or being exposed in a way that gets our backs up. In either case, there’s so much gold for us here if we’re willing to look for it. Discovering what we protect and defend is a call to go deeper in relationship with these aspects of ourselves and our communities. “Personal attacks” can be key opportunities for integration, powerful self-acceptance, and meaningful connection.

Some things generate energy for us, and some don’t — think people, places, actions and mindsets. Some might raise our energy one day, and feel neutral or tire us out the next. With so much happening in and outside of us all the time, it helps to notice what brings us energy and “raises our vibration” from moment to moment so we can give ourselves more of what we need to make life feel better.

In today's episode we talk about all the ways we implement this in our own lives — expanding beyond the usual diet, sleep and exercise to encompass the more intangible aspects of life and relationship that can be harnessed in service of generating energy within and without.

It can feel so hard when others have something we want deeply for ourselves, or when we feel like we don’t measure up — to others, or to our own expectations. The ways we compare ourselves have deep roots in our childhoods, and tend to bring out a strong inner critic in us all. Digging into the origins of these feelings, and what they represent for us in our lives, can bring much relief, peace, and acceptance.

In today's episode we talk about the power of comparison through the different seasons of life, and how to learn to enjoy the present no matter the season you're in.

Every family has ways of connecting (and disconnecting) that are particular to them — and it’s within our family systems that we learned how to relate with the world. Rediscovering family dynamics in the context of compassionate healing work is a powerful tool for deeper connection across all of our relationships, including the relationship with ourselves.

In today's episode we talk about what we have in common with our families, which maybe we didn't realize before, and things we love about ourselves that came from our parents, even though we didn't know it at the time.

Our relationships with distraction, derailing rumination, and focus are inextricably linked with the states of our nervous system. We all have the power to rewire our systems and our behaviour patterns — and in our view, the best way to do that is in baby steps, with much self-compassion. In today's episode we make space to discover and embrace our relationships with distraction, and share a magic tool to help you shift your energy and the patterns that no longer serve you.

We all contain aspects that we’ve learned to suppress for fear of losing love, connection or approval. And we all observe aspects in others that we find unpalatable, or irritating, as a result — these are the universe’s highlighter, showing us parts of ourselves we’ve disowned. Discovering and integrating these parts helps us become more whole.

In today's episode we talk about our personal experiences uncovering and embracing these parts of ourselves, and the joy of sharing more of ourselves in our relationships and in the world.

We all have beliefs about reality — and those are what we project onto the world and the people around us. What we see in others is also within us. It can be easy to field someone’s projections when they’re obviously “not ours”, but what about when they reflect a fear we have about ourselves? Or when they’re positive?

There’s a great irony in many societies, where we (sometimes inadvertently) shame others in order to diffuse our own shame. We also employ shame to teach each other lessons, and in the misguided hope of inspiring growth or change. But the truth is, shame makes us feel small, angry, and unloved. Sure, this might cause us to act differently — but an environment of loving support inspires us to grow and thrive with our whole selves.

In today's episode, G shares about her son's volleyball team, and the magic inspired by the non-shaming, supportive culture they've created together.

In today’s hustle-forward society, napping can be frowned upon — or reserved only for specific people, places, or times. Maybe a power nap feels acceptable, while a siesta only feels allowable while you’re on vacation. Exploring how we feel about rest for ourselves and others reveals a lot about our beliefs, and our capacity to trust our body’s needs and impulses.

In this episode we talk about our past and current beliefs about naps and rest, the benefits (and intimacy) of rest, and how we discovered permission to nap for ourselves.

Our bodies contain so much wisdom, and can connect us with so much information. The natural tendency to identify and fall into patterns is also contained in our bodies...and is totally optional!

We protect ourselves from fear, pain and uncertainty using various psychological coping mechanisms like denial — and we manage our emotional turmoil by displacing words and energy, and projecting our feelings or desires onto other people or circumstances. In today's episode we talk about digging into deeper truths by facing the simple reality of what’s working and what isn’t.

Today's episode is a practice in showing up as you are and comforting yourself through hard times. We use a real life example to talk about the (often unhelpful) meaning we make during conflict, how we make others bad and wrong, and how we can best let go of unhelpful stories to make way for new experiences during changing seasons of life.

Mentioned in this episode is coach and mystic Bryce Musil (brycemusil.ca).

In today's episode we talk about part of John Wellwood's book Love and Awakening — where he likens us to castles, with thousands of rooms. The rooms represent our many aspects, many of which we close ourselves off from over the course of our development.

In our human need for love and connection, we alter ourselves in ways we deem to be “more acceptable” to the people around us. We cut ourselves off from that which we believe isn’t lovable, or relatable — we close the door and throw away the key.

If we wish to wholeheartedly love our entire selves, and each other, exploring these repressed and suppressed parts with compassion is needed. We talk about our personal experiences exploring our own castles, and more.

We tend to live most of our lives as intellectual endeavors: we know, we see, we might even understand, but we rarely take the time to feel the sensations that go with. Those sensations — good, bad and in-between — are the experiences of LIFE. When we’re accustomed to bypassing those feelings, it requires rewiring our systems in order to really feel alive and present, for ourselves and for each other.

In today's episode we walk you through a self-connection practice that widens your lens and gives you time to feel your experience.

In this episode we walk you through a tapping and sounding exercise. Nourishing touch is a powerful tool for self-discovery, and self-support — you can use touch and sound to move and generate energy, and to soothe your nervous system in heightened moments, or when remembering challenging events.

Touch helps us find the limits of what feels good to our bodies, and what doesn’t. It can also bring playful energy and lots of smiles! Explore this for yourself and see what you discover.

We talk about managing anxiety and insomnia as well, and how Georgianna got the nickname "GG Bedeman".

It’s standard practice to tamp our feelings down and push past bodily sensations — society teaches us that these get in the way of “doing”. Here, we know the opposite is true, and that the data our bodies give us are vital and informative. Learning your body’s language — and how to respond — is integral to happy, fulfilling, drama-free living.

In today's episode we walk you through a body-based self-connection practice with a focus on sensory perception. This is a great tool to employ when you're feeling actively anxious and wish to calm your system and connect to the most manageable aspects of the present.

Today's episode is built around this meme:

"If you want rest you have to take it. You have to resist the lure of busyness. Make time to rest, take it seriously, and protect it from a world that's intent on stealing it." — Alex Pang

We talk about building rest, self-connection, and moments of peace into your busy day, and take a serious look at where we insert optional pressures and deadlines for ourselves and others. There's much more opportunity for "rest" than you might think! Or than your body might be accustomed to. Our body-based self-connection tools help you build these muscles and bring them into your everyday.

We’re not all in the same emotional realm at the same time. How do we respond when we're up and our loved one is down? When we have celebrations, and others are in grief?

Seeing others experience things we want might delight us, or it might throw us into the reality of our pain — we might feel abundance and potential, or fear and lack. But we don’t have to hide or cut ourselves off from joy when others are having hard times, or vice versa.

We just have to practice holding ourselves, and making space for each other. In today's episode, we talk about how to handle our feelings and share with compassion — plus the benefits of "looking like an idiot".

People tend to approach apologies from a place of fear and anxiety — because we want to make people happy, and we don't want our relationships to end or feel tumultuous. There's so much power in taking the time to find clarity, acceptance, and genuine curiosity about ourselves and others before we seek to make apologies and repairs — and making your way through this series is a good place to start.

Lying doesn't mean we're bad or wrong — it's just a behaviour we develop to protect ourselves, or to stay in connection with people who are important to us. Bringing compassionate curiosity to this natural defense against shame and fear is key to freeing yourself from the burden of needless lies, past and present.

In today's episode, we talk about how we come to a place of needing to tell lies as children, how that translates into our adult lives, and how to move deeper into a truer expression of ourselves.

There are always situations we could have handled better. Our capacities for compassionate connection are constantly limited by time, energy, and our personal programming. This is true for our parents, and for us too — and the resulting guilt & shame get in the way of our connections. It's never too late to make repairs though, and holding your own shame with love is a great place to start.

In today's episode we talk about everything that builds up for us that gets in the way of our connection to loved ones, and how to work with it. There are so many great tools available for conscious parenting, gentle parenting, and conscious relationship in our modern world. We are all learning to use them collectively, and things are changing — we're adding more compassion to human interactions, and we all have a role to play.

When we're caught up in the beginnings of a potential relationship, our systems are easily hijacked by hopes, dreams and hormones. It's especially important that we make less meaning and observe more reality during this time, and pace ourselves so we can fully discover how we feel in relationship to the person in front of us — not our stories about who we hope they might be.

In today's episode we share personal and vaguely embarrassing stories about our own meaning-making in past relationships (SPOILER! Our meaning-makers were wrong!) and how we worked to uncover our felt sense of how things are, as opposed to how we might hope they could be.

TFW when you're called into leadership, and you resent having to do it — but part of you is ready. You resent that it will interrupt your healing, and take your energy — and you're afraid it will set you back. Can you relate?

Today we're speaking with Mia, who finds herself in these circumstances, plus a lot of personal backstory. From a military family, Mia has been on her healing journey and away from home for 10 years — gathering steam and tools, it turns out, for a perfect storm of situations happening now: starting a new business, moving home to care for a family undergoing significant challenges, and facing all the family trauma she's been healing from.

We talk about stepping into leadership, while managing the big feelings of fear and (past & present) resentment that come up as we work to fulfill our new role with grace and compassion.

Someone's impact on us — the ways we feel in response to their words, actions, energy — often has more to do with us and our past experiences than it does with them or the present moment. For everything we think and feel now, our bodies recall something from our past and that old wiring is engaged. In this episode we talk about it, and how to connect with what's happening right now so you can best manage your many levels of responses to it.

It feels good to receive an apology, and it can be such a tempting relief to leave it at that — especially when asking for what we needed or sharing what hurt us was already so hard to do. But it's actions that make the real impact and demonstrate meaningful care. You've heard the idea that we teach people how to treat us? In part, this is what that means: we teach people if apologies are sufficient, or if changed behaviour is also needed. In today's episode, we talk about integrity between words and action — in our relationships and in ourselves.

More of what we talked about:

01:17 Self-Connection Practice

03:11 Healing ourselves through welcoming our big feelings and offering ourselves gentle holding

04:36 Honouring our own feelings and needs by changing the dance with our loved ones

10:00 Word apologies are useless without aligned actions

17:44 How are you teaching people to treat you

24:32 Having the courage to honor what you actually want and the value of letting others see your authentic experience

29:49 Honoring someone else’s no and being delighted for others that they value their own needs

We all face discomfort when we need to make a change: the discomfort of staying the same, staying where we are, staying with what we know — and the discomfort of moving towards newness, unfamiliarity, and patterns of behaviour that aren't yet natural for us. We need to remember what we're doing and why we're doing it — and keep connected with the question "What is this discomfort in service of?"

Clean pain is the discomfort of moving toward healthier, truer unfamiliarity — in service of your personal and spiritual growth. Dirty pain is the discomfort of staying where we no longer want or ought to be — in service of feelings of safety or comfort or ease. Baby steps are a clean way to start moving toward the types of safety and ease that also serve your person and spirit.

Most of us were raised on pressure to perform and shame about getting things "wrong" — all while we're meant to be learning and discovering everything about ourselves and the world we live in. Gentle parenting, and compassionate re-parenting, is the way we're going (with ourselves and our children), and we're seeing powerful results. Today's conversation is about building skills in these areas for our families and our own inner children/adolescents.

Have you ever felt stupid? Like you should have known and you didn't, or like someone THOUGHT you should have known and you didn't, or you said the "wrong" thing? (We know you have, and we have too.)

Oof, what a feeling! The rush of fear, the flush of shame, the desire to run and hide or lash out and defend. We all know these feelings, and we all have our ways of coping -- some healthier than others. Our cultural understanding, our family system, our current circumstances all serve to inform our beliefs and behaviours in response to these feelings, and today we talk about it all, and offer some self-soothing and -reflection tools to help you manage these realities for yourself.

More of what we talked about:

  • 00:22 Self-connection Practice
  • 3:29 The power of intuitive movement
  • 6:22 Living in alignment with what we say we care about

Serenity to accept the things we can't change, and wisdom to know the difference -- this is what we're talking about here today, along with tools and perspective to help you connect with that awareness and (eventual) serenity. In this episode, G employs an example of one of her kids and a mac & cheese tantrum to illustrate our varying responses to the anger we express when we hit a wall of impossibility, and we discuss ways to honour those parts, our other parts, and the bigger picture.

More of what we talked about:

  • 00:30 Self-connection Practice
  • 2:51 Learning to accept the things we cannot change
  • 16:26 Honouring our upset even when we have to get on with life

There's no way around it -- if you're alive, you're going to regret a decision at some point. You're going to second-guess yourself, you're going to be miserable, and you're going to laugh and feel free and have a wonderful time. You're going to love people, and miss people, and wish you could split yourself into pieces so you could be everywhere all at once.

In today's episode, we make some space for that with caller Aleksandra, who's recently moved abroad and is feeling all the ways we feel when we miss our people AND we're happy for distance, when we worry we've made all the wrong choices and that we'll end up destitute, when we don't know what to do next or how to find our footing.

And we come to a place of remembrance for the WHYs and the YESSES that got us to where we are today, and a place of purpose for the yesses we want to offer tomorrow.

The ways we behave show us our truest values -- and they're not always aligned with what we think we believe. Most of the time, we're living on auto-pilot, slogging through an unexamined life just trying to feel good or safe day to day. But when we bring focus and attention to the ways we feel, the ways we spend our time, and the areas we tend to give our energy to, it can be eye-opening!

With new awareness, we can see the patterns we act out on a daily basis and the impact that has on our life and relationships -- and we can take charge. Even baby steps (maybe especially baby steps) are important steps to take toward shifting your life in ways that represent how you want to experience life. In today's episode we get radically honest about how we've been totally disconnected from our values in the past, how that's played out in relationships, and what steps we've taken to make values-based living a regular practice across the many areas of our lives.

More of what we talked about:

  • 00:22 Self-connection Practice
  • 3:29 The power of intuitive movement
  • 6:22 Living in alignment with what we say we care about
  • 11:58 When we self-protect by claiming we don't care

We hear a lot of people using this term "High Value" as a qualifier when talking about their behavior, or a potential date or partner's behavior -- but what does it really mean? High Value isn't a set of words, or any specific response; it's the embodiment of self-honouring, and honouring our values outwardly in our speech, energy, words and actions. Which is easier said than done -- especially if we've spent a lifetime hiding from who we really are, and who we're afraid we are, and what we want for our lives.

After so long learning to ignore or dismiss so many of our feelings, leaves us confused and seeking outside validation for our feelings and assessments of other people when it comes to dating and relationships. We need to bring our bodies' notification systems back online to really know how we feel, and to bring our truest selves to life & love.

More of what we talked about:

  • 00:41 Self-connection Practice
  • 4:25 The mind-heart-gut connection

The difference between caregiving and caretaking is significant: offering care someone needs and has requested, vs stepping in (usually unrequested) to manage other people's feelings, fears, worries, anxieties. Pro tip: we usually caretake others as an unconscious way of dealing with our own fears and anxieties...the feelings we don't care for for ourselves. In today's episode we talk about loving people while loving ourselves, and minding our own business instead of minding everyone else's.

We all have limitations and constraints, and they are not a reflection of our love or care. When we recognize this, we learn not to take things so personally. When we recognize this, we learn to discern who can help us in the moment – which friend to call, where to get the support you need. You can absolutely fill your bucket, and there are people who can help you fill it. There are also people who can’t – but maybe they can help you hold the bucket, or repair the hole in the bucket, or maybe they feed you or help in other ways. This is our invitation not to pigeon-hole the people who love you.

Knowing what you want and need is an important part of living a fulfilling life. It's also important to be able to communicate, AND to be understanding and compassionate for the limitations of others.

In this episode we talk about all of the above, and making meaning from our lives and our stories.

More of what we talked about:

  • 0:08 Body practice
  • 5:51 The importance of being aware of your needs in your friendships
  • 11:40 How sharing can change the way we interact with our parents
  • 16:53 What was it like to go from not sharing anything to sharing everything
  • 21:20 The importance of finding meaning in the hard things in your life
  • 30:40 How saying “no” helps people trust you more

Hard truth: We can’t always be there for each other, or be there in the ways we might like, even if we love each other deeply. When we feel obligated to prove our love, when we feel pressure to perform even when we don’t have capacity, when we show up carrying our own baggage to someone else’s tragedy – we’ve slipped out of alignment and need to ground and centre.

And we might need to protect ourselves, or our energy. And that’s okay too.
We can’t always show up when our loved ones need us most – but when we can, there are ways we can do that which are more supportive and generative than others.

How can we practice shifting into trust and love, and not taking things personally?
How can we practice asking for support AND accepting that it might not look like we want it to?
How can we connect with moments of choice even during tragic times?
How can you use all the simple tools we give you to handle really hard experiences in your life?
The biggest gift you can give yourself and your loved ones is to learn to regulate your nervous system. Today we talk about what that can look like when tragedy strikes.

More of what we talked about:
00:25 Self-connection practice
02:35 The importance of regulating your nervous system
18:00 Choosing a relationship and choosing how you want to show up
29:00 Being consciously present and being able to choose during hard times

It’s good to know your love language – but don’t let that limit your access to the love and care that are all around you. How can we practice shifting to really see how someone shows their love for you in simple and profound ways?

And how can we communicate our feelings such that – even in difficult conversations – our love can still be felt?

In this episode, we share tools that help you recognise sincerity, and unlimit yourself when it comes to giving and receiving love. We show you how to recognize love by reminding you it’s there, and that it looks so many different ways.

Human Design is a system of personal knowing and discovery which we've found helpful, in the vein of Enneagram, Gene Keys, and astrology. In the language of Human Design, the "Not-Self" is our expression and experience of being out of alignment or unhappy in a given circumstance -- depending on your Design, this will show up for you in different ways. Ways you can predict, and manage!

In this video we talk about helpful questions you can ask yourself when you're feeling like your "Not-Self", so you can get back to feeling more your self-self.   We also share our own Designs (called Bodygraphs), and our composite chart which shows how we interact with and complement each other. You can look up your Design and find more info at http://jovianarchive.org.
