In this episode I speak about the influences of Globalism in general and a few aspects of life and culture that globalism permeates, like language. We discuss globalism and its relation to architecture and how architecture is metaphoric of greater shifts in our culture happening as a result of globalization. The positives of globalization in architecture, business, and non-places of utility is discussed (airports, hospitals, McDonald's). Those are then countered with the negatives, such as a lack of local influence, soul-crushing efficiency, and one-size-fits-all approach. A discussion about what values go into these decisions is had, and then we finish with a discussion of examples of globalism and international business being a part of local architecture through McDonald's Restaurants and how that shows what we can do as a species into the future for a culture built for humans.

Overview on Chinese History over the course of 4000 years. About half is an overview of ancient China to the Opium Wars, setting up the context for what happens in the 19th century when European imperialism comes to China. The underlying cultural traits of the Han Chinese people are discussed, as well as their different philosophies, perceptions of self, hierarchy, and the perceptions of those around them, Korea, Japan, etc.
The rest of the podcast is a description of the situation in China during the Opium Wars, the destruction of the Qing dynasty, and the struggle for power culminating in the Chinese Communist Party ruling over mainland China. Within that history is the factions, men and women, and outside events and technology that influenced the shift, and the collective trauma of the Chinese people at multiple civil wars and foreign invasions.

So we start with talking about the root of my ideas. We talk about seed oils, um, and modern nutrition shows in Liberty and health. You know, he combines libertarianism with being healthy and, you know, I appreciate that a whole lot. Um, so we talked about shaping culture through education. We talk about how relationships work, how they worked in different times in history and how they work today and the problems of them and the modern tech and what problems that creates in relationships.
We talk about over-processing of food and a number of different things. We talk about technological advance and how the rate of technological advance has changed and what might be different about the technology that we have today. Uh, we talk about conformity of standards between different groups of people, a lot of different groups of people like women, different types of men, people with any sort of mental dis disability or neurodivergence and how that's dealt with in today's society versus some other society.
Um, and we talk about birth control again. That, that kind of goes into the relationship stuff, but I think it's a great episode. With the increasing disconnect from nature and the accumulation of social constructs over time, our lives have become less aligned with our fundamental needs, leading to a constant state of cognitive dissonance. I explore various themes, starting with the influence of religion, contrasting traditional beliefs that revered nature with the dominance-centric perspectives of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
As monotheism gained prominence, the concept of control over nature evolved, culminating in the notion that humans are godlike beings exempt from the laws of nature. This departure from our innate connection with the natural world has resulted in issues such as the denial of sexual dimorphism and the rejection of evolutionary principles, as seen in debates over trans athletes and the disregard for biological sex. This alarming trend demonstrates how some individuals fail to recognize themselves as an integral part of nature.
Moreover, I highlight the rising mental health issues in Western societies, drawing attention to the alarming statistics provided by the CDC. The disconnection from nature, compounded by the limited exposure to the outdoors, has been linked to the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among children and adults. Despite the awareness of the importance of nature, Americans, particularly the younger generation, spend less time outdoors, adversely impacting their well-being.
The episode also explores the detrimental effects of hyper-processed food on our health. Western culture's hyper-individualistic tendencies have led to the breakdown of traditional family structures and a focus on personal desires rather than familial stability. Social constructs have further distanced us from our natural origins and moved us away from a balanced existence.

Besides the explosion of medical company monopolies, not much has changed with medicine in my lifetime. My boomer parents took pills for everything and they encouraged me to. mention of a headache gets an ibuprofen, rather than a glass of water. Even at a young age I was obsessed with primitive people and I wondered how they survived without our modern medicine, or even toothpaste. It was only once I was much older that I realized that much of the problems we have are due to our modern life and they way we live, and our culture decided the best solution was to pop pills and make $400 rubber insoles rather than actually change the culture to just not create those problems that need industrial solutions.

This episode is a little bit different and will have to be split up into two parts. This week, I discuss the Concept of Institutional and socio-economic cycles. These are cycles identified by geopolitical analyst George Friedman in his book, "Storm Before the Calm". The United States, in his opinion, goes through stages of Institutions (every 80 years) and socio-economics (every 50 years). This episode is spent introducing the concept of these cycles and discussing the cycles of American history so far. Next week I will go in-depth into the current cycles we are in, how George Friedman thinks we will be better off afterward, and what my own thoughts are on what the future will bring. I will also compare to other examples of times of reform and change in other cultures.

In this episode I discuss myths and stories of different cultures, such as origin stories and heroic tales. I discuss how the traits that are encouraged and traits that are discouraged reflect the values of that story's society. Formats of stories are compared, including cave paintings, oral traditions, Roman plays, and modern American movies. These differing formats are also reflective of technology and, by extension, culture. I discuss a few examples of cultural stories and how those stories reflect their own cultures and changed over time. At the end I discuss the significance of Hollywood movies, how they've changed over the last few decades and what it means that "black" actors are playing "white" characters. The stories we tell are important.

Public Education in 2023 in America is in crisis. The schools are increasingly not teaching. Teachers are increasingly overworked, staff shortages are at an all time high. Teachers quitting is at an all time high. Administrators increasingly do not provide teachers with tools or support to effectively discipline students to even create a reasonably safe environment. **The current main model of public education in the United States is based on ideologies that were pushed by organizations created by and for the richest Americans of the early 20th century. Rockefeller, Ford, Carnegie. They say themselves what they did to do this, and they describe it in no uncertain terms in quotes. Today we discuss the effect that these organizations had on education, and discuss quotes by these men, the advisors that ran the organizations, and the helpless educators who watched their former system be destroyed in favor of a system that helped the manufacturing giants have enough human capital to run their firms and make themselves more rich.

How do we decide what genocides to care about? What genocides/atrocities get the most attention, why? Some genocides are ignored, and others are featured prominently. The Rwandan, Armenian, and other genocides are ignored largely, at least compared to the Holocaust. The prominence of the Holocaust above other genocides is harmful to perceptions of future and current human rights abuses, as it allows one evil to be hoisted above all others, and as a result, make current genocides appear not as bad. In the world there are many countries, regions, territories, etc. that have overlapping land claims. Where one group claims territory that another claims. This can be two countries, such as border regions between India/China, Japan/Russia, Indonesia/Papua New Guineau, Israel/Palestine. It can be separatist nations like Chechnya, Catalan, Kurdistan. It can be new states attempting to rise like ISIS. It can even be organizations like gangs, cartels, mafia exerting effective control over an area. Land shifts ownership over time, and always has. We discuss today how land claims work, who decides the metrics for who has the greater claim, and how claims and knowledge are weaponized for geopolitical advantage. We discuss how in many examples of international recognition of different states the important factor is not the legitimacy of the land claim, but instead how a land claim to one state helps the geopolitical posturing of another. For example the creation of Belgium as a buffer state between France and Germany, longtime support for Taiwan over the PRC, and ultimately the pinnacle of the episode, modern current example, the poignant example of the support of the west of Ukraine against the Russian enemy.

In my second episode with Matt, real estate agent, we discuss counter culture. Counter cultures being cultures based on opposition to the mainstream, like the hippies in the 60s. We discuss how counterculture can become the mainstream and how Communism did this in some places while addressing the new problems of the industrial revolution. We then go in to discussing the aspects of counterculture in the context of the American presidential elections of the last three decades and how Trump represents counterculture. We discuss Kobain and Nirvana and his stance on commercialization, and being counter to the commercialized mainstream music scene. Then we discuss being the counterculture in specific environments, conservatives in college, PNW, and New England, or a liberal in the Marine Corps. We try to figure out what the largest counterculture of today is, and if anything is as serious as the hippies.
Matt and I discuss culture of the workplace. How workplaces change based on who is who joins them, and how certain jobs attract certain types of people.
I sit down with the other Ben to discuss the culture behind lawyering and inequalities within the justice system, amongst a few other topics.

I end with discussing the difference in ideas of transgenderism and gender in the West and what this might mean for the future.
