My name is Ashley Stuart. I've been sharing content about what it's like living with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) and migraines for a few years now on YouTube and I'm hoping to make it easier for you to listen on-the-go with having my episodes available via podcast. We all have busy lives and sometimes sitting down to watch a lengthy video is just not possible. For those of you who prefer audio, I hope this helps give you another way to enjoy my content.

Beginning in 2018 when I was diagnosed with IIH, I had the determination to lose weight as it was made known to me that my IIH could go into remission if I was successful. Throughout 2019, I finally was successful at attaining this goal and have kept it off ever since.

When it comes to tears and crying, many people feel showing these emotions is a form of weakness. The truth is that being able to freely express these emotions is a form of therapy and come up in many ways and at many different times throughout the journey with chronic illness.

Being that I have been on a weight loss journey of my own and have had some close friends and family ask me about my thoughts due to the popularity of medications like Ozempic, I decided to share my opinion and concerns about these kinds of medications. My hope is that it will offer an interesting perspective on a very popular topic of conversation these days.

The diagnosis process for rare and chronic illnesses can be such a long process that just getting one can feel like a huge milestone has been achieved. I talk about the implications of this long process and dig into some parts of this journey that I haven't thought about in a long time.

I go over what I mean when I say I'm good or I'm fine when asked how I'm doing. Sometimes it can mean that I am doing pretty well but sometimes it means that I'm not doing well with not understanding or not feeling like explaining why. I also spend some time talking about how this applies a bit more recently too as I am going through things that are very hard to talk about.

Today's quote is by Doe Zantamata and it is this: "Some days are better, some days are worse. Look for the blessing instead of the curse. Be positive, stay strong and get enough rest. You can’t do it all, but you can do your best" I talk about why I love this quote and how I best feel it describes life with chronic illness very well.

When it comes to explaining our chronic illnesses to our family or friends who don't experience these illnesses, it can be hard to communicate in words what it's like. This can make us appear to be unwilling to talk about our illness when the truth is, we are often just trying to think of the right way to word everything.

Negative emotions are apart of the experience with chronic illness. It's not fair to ask people or to expect people to be positive all of the time. Experiencing these negative emotions is what makes us human.

Hey everyone. Today, I'm talking about how normality with chronic illness like IIH and migraines will always mean something different than those who don't deal with chronic health conditions. Society's definitions of what's normal for young people has a big impact on us but what is normal anyways. Normal gets us nowhere and if it wasn't for this happening, I probably wouldn't be in the same place as I am today.

In this week's podcast, I talk about the unexpected opportunities that have come up because of being diagnosed with IIH and migraines. Although I would never choose to go through this, I often wonder what my life would be like and if I would have had the same opportunities if it not were for the suffering that I have experienced because of being sick.

When I'm having a bad day, I may not be able to do the same things I can do on a good day. This is okay. It gets into a quote by Carmen Ambrosio.

"If opening your eyes, or getting out of bed, or holding a spoon, or combing your hair is the daunting Mount Everest you climb today, that is okay.”

This is the topic of this week's podcast and know that if you strongly relate to this quote, you are not alone.

I came across a quote that I wanted to talk about from Rachel Marie Martin that emphasizes the importance of letting one type of story go so you can enjoy the current moment. It not only spoke to me about what it's like living with chronic illness and chronic pain, but it also spoke to me because of my journey with non-duality. I talk about how this quote spoke to me in this week's podcast.

Emotions can cause your pain to feel worse and emotional releases are something that happen on this journey with non-duality. They happen when you least expect them too as well. I'm going through another big one right now so here's what I am experiencing. Just a note that this is an example of going through a bit of a rough patch to reach a bit more light after. Ignoring these emotions would only make the situation much worse.

They say that the darkest of nights can hold the most beauty and lead to amazing things when the light returns. This was true for me with chronic illness and it's becoming the centre of my life again on this journey with awakening and spirituality. Life is a constant form of cycles through both light and darkness.

You may be noticing a shift in the content that I do as I am currently going through a very big change in my life with this journey with non-duality. Episodes and content may be a bit more random than they used to be. This episode is from a live show I did on YouTube. Since my content has shifted quite significantly, I am going to name this the first episode of season 2. You can find me on my social media platforms below:

When it comes to having migraines, there are things that people do every day that I actually avoid or try to avoid. Many of these are things many people who don't deal with these same conditions as me don't even have to think about. All of the examples I use in this also apply to IIH despite me not mentioning it specifically.   #iih #migraines #awareness

People don't realize the mental toll IIH and migraines and other chronic illnesses can take on a person when their life suddenly changes. This is a question that I had at many points in my own journey too. I offer this topic today as a sign of hope but the answer to this question is complicated.   Disclaimer: This content contains very serious subjects and if you are struggling, it may not be one that is best for you at this time. When it comes to chronic illness, being introverted or extroverted will change how you approach social situations. One of the biggest things you will hear when you have a chronic illness is "but if you just got out more". Being introverted can make this statement apply even less than it already does.  #live #chronicillness #awareness #iih #migraines #introvert #extrovert

Whenever I talk about why I am doing well with migraines, I often credit my medication that I'm on which is critical, but there's one thing that I should be crediting that I often don't even ever mention. That is my meditation practice. I do meditation for far more reasons than helping manage my chronic illness, but I'm going to get into why I think this tool is just as important to emphasize as my current preventative is.   #live #chronicillness #awareness #iih #migraines #meditation #mindfulness

Explaining life with migraines is a delicate balance of trying to explain how difficult it can be along with downplaying in certain circumstances to avoid intrusive questions. I tend to find myself downplaying migraines more often than the opposite but unless I can talk about the nuance, it always feels like you're leaving out important information.
