What's going on Hive! I am still new and need to find the sweet spot for my videos. As I make more posts I'll be able to organize my thoughts better. I also want to provide more useful information than I have been providing. If I appear to be all over the place and skipping around and out of order with my thoughts, I am. I am used to giving this information in a college lecture format. The subject I cover in this post usually would take up hours of instruction and review along the way. Instead I am trying to short hand my lessons to a twenty minute video. So here we go! In America to be able to hunt everything you don't need an arsenal of guns. In fact you only NEED one gun if you get down to it, but we'll get to that later. There will be three guns to complete your hunting collection. The factors that make you decide on which gun to use will depend on the environment, size/distance of the animal, and species of animal.

First gun we will go over is your small game rifle. You want to use rifles when hunting. There will be very few times when a sidearm will be better. This will be your 17 and 22 caliber rounds or anything that resembles an elongated pill. The reason for the small caliber bullet is to preserve meat. Bullets spin while traveling through the air. This creates a pockets of outward pressure to come off the bullet when entering the target. A large round could destroy a small animal. Remember that all guns can kill you. Even these small rounds. You might not be sniped off with one but a shot in your eye from fifty yards or a chest shot at thirty would definitely do the trick. If you are in an area tight with houses and large game animals are near, as long as it doesn't possess thick fur to stop the small round you'll be able to hunt them as well.

This gun is a 30-30. It's actually called “The gun that won the west”. It was and still is the preferred rifle for cowboys and farm workers. This is actually my favorite gun. It was basically a gift from Solominer. It's actually a special kind of rifle. In America it used to be, I don't know if it still is, that gun makers would only use locally obtained materials. This means that certain factories used better materials. Marlin rifles with a “JM” stamp on the barrel is worth three to ten times more than a rifle without. It's actually considered to be a mid-range rifle. Most mid-range rifles are called so, not because they can only shoot things mid-range which is accurately shooting up to 100 yards, but because they can't reach past 300 yards without having to make adjustments for gravity. I can shoot up to 300 yards accurately with the 30-30. I am an exceptional marksman with it and most would not take a shot past 150-200 yards. You don't need to reach that far on a regular basis. A rifle that can reach 100 yards is more than enough for most American hunters.

Last but not least is the shotgun! This is probably the most versatile hunting gun you'll buy in America. What makes a shotgun so versatile is the projectiles that are fired from it. Rather than a bullet the shotgun uses a cartridge shell. The shotgun round is also not calibered but gauged. The number of the gauge means that's how many metal Bbs it would take to make a pound. The shotgun allows you to fire a plethora of sizes, number of BBs, and grain. A shot gun can also fire what is called a slug, this would be a single solid piece of metal taking up the entire volume of the shell. In the video I say that buckshots are bigger. I was wrong, there's just more Bbs and more gunpowder.

I hope this post was better with length and information and quality.

So this is the actual video of Wynter killing the ground hog. Warning it is her first time killing one and she is a pressure killer. There are three basic ways canines kill with: shake, crush, and tear. Shaking is when the dog grabs whatever it intends to kill, usually by the neck, and shakes it vigorously to snap the neck and spine. This is the most common way a dog will dispatch an animal. The crush method is used by applying hard crushing pressure and then re-biting. The dog will do this over and over until it crushes something vital inside the animal being killed by the dog. Some dogs may turn their heads sideways into the ground in order to apply leverage and gravity onto the animal.

Here is the dog looking into the hole where the ground hog is. I used a shovel to start pulling the trap from under the metal guard because my arm was too short to reach the trap safely without getting bit. As the ground hog came out it was biting the shovel and hissing so I had my wife hold the dog back so I can drag the ground hog out. You can see the foot trap barely coming over the metal guard under our window.

Here is the ground hog caught in the foot trap. I brought it out in the open so that the dog has enough space to move about. An animal cornered has no place to go but towards you with weapons drawn.

Here you can see why the dog needed space to move. You can see Wynter dodging the ground hog and getting ready to grab it by the neck.

After the initial grab she start trying to get a better bite almost immediately. If you look at Wynter's leg you can see that she picks it off the ground in order to apply more pressure. I thought she would be a shaker because of the manner in which she plays with her toys . If you hear me in the video talking about her needing to shake the ground hog that's why. Despite my miscalculation you can see her re-biting and applying pressure over and over. The ground hog is dispatched around the minute and half marker, but I allow Wynter to keep working.

When training a dog you're going to keep egging the dog on with a command like my wife is doing, she was overly excited. It should be one loud command and other words to egg the dog on, otherwise you'll need to do it every time and you not saying anything will be the command to stop.

I don't train with treats, it creates bad habits and behavior. Giving extra love is much better.

So we set the trap and about thirty minutes later we heard it go off. I set two traps: one I put along the wall of my house about 5 feet away from the hole and the other I set right in the hole itself. The ground hog dragged the trap underground. There is a tiny piece of metal you can barely see when my wife zooms in and you follow the chain that's the bottom of the trap. You always want to make sure that your traps are securely anchored down. Not only to keep your bounty from escaping and taking one of your hard earned traps, but it also prevents predators from dragging away your trap as well. In the next video I'm going to be pulling the ground hog out and setting the dog after it. I split this video into two parts because the next part is going to be NSFW.

I also did not realize I was going bald like that until I watched this video. See seconds ten through twenty Lol.

On the new property comes some new problems, one being some of the pests we have. Recently Solominer spotted a ground hog diving into a hole right under one of my windows. Because it's right next to my house, using a firearm is not an option. I am opting to use a foot trap. This is a nonlethal method used to trap animals for relocation or to dispatch. Most of the time when you're setting foot traps you'll be setting them around bait or a well known travel route.

Because I didn't know which post would be my first in many of the videos I am explaining my return to Hive and starting the farm with Solominer. In this specific video I thought it a good idea to smoke before hand because we now live in a legal state. I was wrong. If you're thinking to yourself that I'm rambling on like I'm on something I am . No I'm not going over hunting regulations but I will be setting my wife's dog on the groundhog in order to train her. I will be going over traps in a video in the near future, and in other videos you'll be able to see me set them up.

The NSFW stuff will be coming next.

While working on the farm a Black Rat Snake came crawling out of a wood pile I was moving. The engine noise in the background is the skid steer. This is actually a younger snake. A Black Rat Snake can grow up to 9 feet in length. This one was probably a little over 4 feet long. When they're born it's harder to distinguish the species apart bc many of them are born gray with a boa constrictor like pattern on them. Their true colors will emerge as they mature. Rat snakes are all over America and can be found in almost any kind of environment from desert to swamp. The Black Rat Snake is often mistaken for a Black Racer, which is another kind common species of snake sharing the Rat Snake's range of habitat. A good way to tell the difference is the Black Racer will take off as soon as it sees you at an almost comical speed. I have not been able to catch a Racer without using a stick or cornering it. To run down and catch one is still on my bucket list.
But for now the Black Rat Snakes will keep the farm rodent free. I had actually spotted this one around 40 minutes before. It had bitten the back end of a large rat that was trying to escape. The rat had pulled the snake out of my sight and I started working again. Apparently the snake won and ate the rat. It will try to run away from me in the video but you can see that it's too fat where the rat was in its body.

DISCLAIMER: The video is just a quick scan from the back right corner of the property. The fence is where it stops and it starts about 20 yeards behind me.

What's goin on Hive! I just recently returned from a work trip attempting to find land. A close friend of mine has wanted to start a farm community and has asked me to be the first to join. The Virginia Hills seemed to be the place to go for the fertile land, navigable terrain, and natural resources already at our disposal from wild game to fresh water. The next few posts will be many pics and a few videos on what I saw during the trip at the pieces of land I consulted for.

The first day we showed up at our AirBnB and used the time to settle down before we started our overlook of the properties.

Here is the room I stayed in with my luggage and gear for the next week.

The view of the kitchen area from the living room.

We couldn't see the main road from our AirBnB because there was a line of trees in the way and also a couple bee boxes. You can see them if you follow the window divider on the left 3 quarters all the way up and to the immediate left. This time of year Virginia also had an exploding population of lady bugs. I took a picture of this independent explorer because it was so rare not to see them in clumps made up of no less than 30 lady bugs at a time.

This was the home that came with the first property. It was described as a party house built by the owner in order to host his get togethers at.

The pond that came with the house was said to contain catfish and bass inside. I did not see any fish in the pond but there was plenty sign that waterfowl had passed by which would give us meat and possibly eggs. It's a man made lake with a spring feeding into it, but I could not find a source of water other than a drainage path. The realtor came off as a man who did his research and knew his stuff so I am inclined to believe him more than question.

On the back end of the pond there was a drainage ditch used for the access water to flow into. It kept a constant trickle which resulted in a sort of semi bog environment where the ground stayed wet and sunk underfoot when approaching the dirt close to the drain. This provided a home for a few critters you normally wouldn't see in the middle of your backyard and a watering hole in the middle of an open area for prey animals to get a drink and keep an easy eye out for predators.

Here is the point where to access water trickles out starting the private strip of marshy ground.

Here's what an overlook of the waters exit point and the beginning of the wetlands of the first property.

Here if you look there is a hole and then a mound of dirt and mud the right of it. These are crawfish holes and mounds. The holes will go into the ground beneath the water table and the mound looks like a cow paddy more than it does any recognizable structure which is how you distinguish them from grub "towers"

I didn't realize my view finder was so off on my camera. This structure has a grub in it. More often than not it will be a Cicada grub. Other animals, mainly skunks, will see these and dig them up in order to devour the builders.

There was a fresh water stream that resided 50 yards within the property and ran parallel with the border of the backyard. From top to bottom of the last 3 pictures: raccoon, deer, and turkey prints all along the side of the backyard stream.

This sink used a water pump and filter in order to have running water from the stream right next to a steal bridge that allowed us to walk to the other side. I though the contraption was a sloosh box for mining for gold but I found out that it was a corn chopper.

Here are some random pictures showing different views of the property. The buildings are as followed in no particular order: The main house, the garage which held 5 cars and was built out to include an outdoor shower and an indoor area to put a fridge and cot, man-cabin at the bottom of the hill, and an outhouse with running water that included a sink and shower. The grilling areas with all the equipment would stay but they will be taking all the gear.

Not everything you do for physical fitness has to be some gladiator like weight baring movement or extended periods of throat drying cardio.

Even though the strain is minimal, balance drills have been universally difficult for many of my students since I started using them in my own and teaching regiments.

The first balance drill is called the Hovering Foot. You're going to stand with your feet together.

Lift one of your feet so that it's hovering a few inches off of the ground. When you do this try to stabilize before making any other movements.

Bend down and touch the ground with BOTH HANDS! Don't simply cringe one arm to the floor. You need to utilize both hands and yes you can use the ground to stabilize yourself. Only after you have reached the ground with your movements controlled, DO NOT use the floor as a crash/stopping surface.

From here stand back up with your foot in the same exact spot.

The catch is that your hovering foot cannot move up, down, or around the entire time you are reaching for the ground and standing back up. I try to do these 5-10 times each foot.

What's goin on Hive! The next exercise will test your balance, core strength, hips, and thighs. It's called the Frog Leg exercise

You are going to begin at a standing position. From the standing position you're going to lift up one of your feet/knees as high as you can hold it.

When you have a stable stance lower yourself to the ground. Don't extend your raised leg but lower it to the ground as controlled and purposeful as possible.

After your tucked foot has made contact with the ground you may relax in a squatted position as long as you want.

When ready shift your weight over to the leg your were using to lower your body. Extend that leg lifting yourself back up to that position of standing with one leg tucked.

Place your tucked foot to the ground and relax. This completes just one side. Remember we need to do both sides so this means you're only halfway done with one rep.

Repeat this with the other foot to complete one rep. Remember you don't have to do these perfectly and it's completely fine to use a ledge somewhere in your home. I usually do 2 sets of 5-10 reps when using this exercise in my workout.

What's goin on Hive! My laptop and desktop stopped working. They didn't really stop working, I just didn't know what to do about mundane problems. Again I'm lucky as fuck to have @solomiminer helping and holding my hand through my process of putting out blogs and educational videos.

This exercise is called the Propped Star.

Your start off by getting into the front lean rest, or push up positions. Make sure you're stable before you move. Keep yourself breathing. If you're holding your breath relax it as you feel your body tighten. Flex your body don't constrict it.

When you stabilize yourself turn onto your side all the while staying propped up. Use the side of your foot to hold yourself up, try not to use the bottoms of your feet. Stabilize when you've gotten to this position.

Extend the arm and leg you're not using to hold yourself out to make a Star Shape with your body. Don't just drop, move shake and adjust as much as you need, remember that these exercises are designed to where even if you cheat you're still getting a work out.

Relax your arm and leg back to your side propped position stabilize and then return to the front lean rest.

Repeat with the other side, this makes one complete rep. I usually do 3 sets of 5-10 reps depending on how I feel.

Ladder climbs!! This exercise does not require you to bend, squat, or lift in an awkward position! Hooray!!

You are going to be standing straight up for this entire exercise so you don’t have to worry about the gross floor.

This exercise will be comprised of two simultaneous motions. The first one will be to raise your arm until your biceps touch your ear.

Try not to move your head while doing this. Remember to bring your bicep to your ear not your ear to you bicep.

At the exact same time you’re going to raise your opposite knee as high as you can.

The important thing about this exercise is to not strain, pop up, or add momentum to your movements. This is simply raising your hand and knee.

This exercise should be timed and not have a number goal. Don’t put any extra effort into this exercise other than what it takes to move your limbs.

The first child movement exercise is called the Walking Push-up. You are going to start at a position of standing upright. This will be the beginning and end of your walking push-up for each rep. You will lower your ass to the ground in a squat. When you’re at your lowest point in your squat place your hands on the ground in front you. All the while leaning onto your hands redistributing the weight from just your legs to your legs and hands. Extending your legs while walking your hands forward to make up for the space your prone body now occupies. Hold yourself in the push-up position and then lower your chest all the way to the ground. This means touch the ground with your chest and stomach. If you’re someone with a large gut or breasts of course this will be different for you. You can completely let yourself relax when going to the ground, bc you gotta get back up! When you have reached the ground you can keep the tension in your arms or completely relax. Then on your own accord push yourself back up into a push-up position. Then while bringing your butt back to your feet walk your hands back to your feet as well stopping right before teetering back completely to your feet. Remove your hands from the ground redistributing your weight back completely to your feet in a squatted position. Last but not least stand back up to a upright posture. That’s 1. Now do it again.

This is the first of many video blogs I am putting up involving stretches, workouts, and etc. I am not putting up full workouts bc I don’t like those videos. In my videos I’m just going to be showing you how to do the various stretches and workouts and not full sets. I don’t do a lot of stuff not bc they don’t work or my way is better. I just don’t like doing those workouts. You’ll notice that I never use running for cardio, it’s only bc I don’t like running. It’s boring and I get easily distracted so I don’t do it. You may think the same thing about my stretches and workouts, this way you can pick and choose and don’t have to sift through an entire hour video looking for parts you’ll like.

The first stretch is a basic shoulder stretch. You’re going to start by reaching a straightened arm across your chest north of your nipples. With your arm still straight and reaching take your other hand and press it to the back of your reaching arm where your triceps go into your arm. When you feel the tension of the stretch lock your reaching arm in place with your other hand. Take your reaching arm and reach over your shoulder. It’s important that while you hold your arm you don’t loosen up the pressure from your pressing hand. Hold this position for 5-10 seconds and then relax in a controlled release of tension.

Cowboy Gun!! What we have here is a Super Blackhawk revolver. I don’t know what makes it super, but I do know that it is. So this is a cowboy gun you would see in the wild west movies. It has a long barrel it fires large rounds and has a single action hammer.

The single action hammer means that it must be pulled back everytime you want to fire it. It’s a larger revolver with more weight on it. The longer barrel and pushed back handle gives it a more stable and balanced shot adding more accuracy to it. Today it would not be the ideal gun for a fight, but a hundred years ago you would’ve been the baddest one out there. It has a similar build as the peacemaker, which was the choice gun of Wyatt Earp and Billy The Kid, with a few modern adjustments to it. The Blackhawk comes in a few different makes and models firing a few different rounds. One of the differences with this revolver and others is this one only comes in models that fire larger sidearm rounds. This particular model fires 357 rounds.

With few moving parts this will be a much simpler and easy clean compared to just about all the other guns that I’ve posted and will post.

Unload your gun!!!

This revolver does not have a cylinder that comes out to reload. Instead it has a small post covered with a small “trap door” on the right side right below the hammer.

In order to remove the cylinder you’re going to have to unscrew the center rod holding the cylinder in place. This will be the small metal rod right under the barrel. Once the rod is open you should be able to pop the cylinder out.

Use a cleaning patch at the end of a ramrod and push it through the barrel and each housing tube in your cylinder. This gun was pretty much already clean when I started on it so I didn’t need to go extensively through the details.

Take a patch with oil on it and go over all metal and moving parts making sure there’s no dirt, carbon, or corrosion on your gun.

When this is all done Give the whole thing a nice shine over re reapply oil where needs be. Reassemble and get ready to defend your claim out west against cattle rustlers, bank robbers, or any other outlaw you may run into. Or you can start a life as an outlaw, it’s the wild west go crazy!

So this next clip is just a very unfortunate thing that happened, I’m a little all over the place with my talking points and a little repetitive bc I was very upset. This was at least 50 lbs of meat for me and my family having to be thrown out. So 2 out of 8 deer that I killed this past season had some sort of injury. Believe it or not that makes a difference in the meat. A small 2X2 bruise could easily render over a square foot of meat useless. When an animal has any sort of injury it affects the entire surrounding area. The affected areas could just be on the surface or could run internally. There’s no way to tell how extensive the damage is until you cut the animal open.

For example on this deer the outside looked great no discoloration, no discharge, no bad odor, just good healthy meat. Yet as soon as I cut into the flesh it spewed out vile smelling liquid everywhere, the organs were filled with blood clots and infection, and even the spine was filled with a strange liquid and when cut into there was escaping gases like from a coke bottle.

And when cutting into the back leg there was a pocket of dark almost black blood inside of the muscle which is not supposed to be there.

I called DNR, Department of Natural Resources, and was eventually given the number to the head of state wildlife biology. His name is Scott, Scott the State Biologist. I explained to him what was wrong with the deer, how long I had it before it was butchered, and the physical quality of the meat. All in all he said that he would not even attempt to eat the deer and to just toss it in a wooded area where scavengers would find it. Scott said that what happened was that the deer was fighting an internal infection and it had spread throughout its entire body entering the bloodstream and even filling the spine with fluid. I was also informed that the deer was in pain and had 3-4 months left to live, Scott said that it would have been in agony towards the laft few weeks of its life.

I always call DNR, Game Warden, Park officials, or any sort of authority figure to the nature community when I find things wrong with wild game. I have multiple reasons for this but I have3 main reason why:

1.Make sure it’s not a disease that can spread to humans

2.Make sure it’s not something detrimental to the animal’s population

3.Make sure it can’t spread to other animals

4.To help keep track of the health, status, and overall well being of wild game

After making sure that it was safe to simply discard in a patch of woods I did so. My yard continued to reek of sickness and infection for a week after the carcass was gone.

AR-15!!!!! This rifle stirs up lots of emotion for pro and anti gunners. This is not only the choice gun for the most responsible gun owners but also for the criminal. The reason why gun enthusiasts love this rifle is bc all the modifications that can be done with it. The AR-15 comes in only 223, 556, and 22 rounds. The 223 and 556 can be fired from the same gun and be mixed in the same magazine. The AR does not stand for assault rifle, it stands for Armalite Rifle .

There’s no such classification of gun as "assault", the term was used for commercial use, just like “military grade” has nothing to do with how well made something is or the quality of craftsmanship. Also Corinthian leather is not anything. It’s just a word to create emotional and mental reactions for political and commercial use, just like assault rifle. And for afterthought, if I take a supersoaker and hit someone over the head with it it’s now become an assault rifle. The AR-15 will always be a heated subject of debate even though most hunting rifles and rounds out perform it.

Unload your weapon!!!

Now we can begin! Start by using a round for the rifle and push the holding pin on the side of the rifle in to release the bottom form the upper.

In order to remove the bolt for the gun on this model you need to remove the charge handle.

The rod used for gas, gas rod, will come out as well when you remove the charge handle and bolt.

The small and narrow barrel of this rifle was not allowing me to use the usual method of cleaning. So I had to improvise. I tried multiple ways including making a makeshift "plug" like you would use for a shotgun, but I used thin string and a piece of cleaning patch.

In the end I cut small cleaning patches into small bits that I could insert unattached soaked in oil and push the through with a ramrod. Repeat with clean patches in order to complete cleaning of barrel.

The video cuts off before I am done cleaning, but it is the same as usual. Take a cleaning patch and wipe down all metal and moving parts of your rifle. When you are satisfied reassemble your rifle.

Here we have a Winchester 1300 Defendor 12 Gauge Shotgun. This model, if you couldn’t tell my its name, is not primarily used for hunting. Meaning that its purpose is to fight off intruders, aliens, zombies, or any other beings who are appropriate to fire upon. The easiest way to tell is by how short the barrel is. The shorter the barrel the faster it loses accuracy at longer distances. The main reason for the shorter barrel is so you can cut corners more sharply and so it can’t be grabbed by your assailant in case if a rush. For hunting shotguns you’re going to want a longer barrel. Gauge of a shotgun is a size measurement of the b.b.’s inside the shell. It takes 12 balls from a 12 gauge shell to make a pound. It takes 20 balls from a 20 gauge shell to make a pound. Get it?

Unloadyourgun

-please

Unscrew the end of the shell loader by hand. Sometimes this will have a shoulder strap attached so remove before you remove.

This usually holds the barrel in place so the barrel should be able to detach as soon as the top comes of the shell loader.

When the barrel is removed you can find a pin located somewhere on your action, mind you not all shotguns are the same, and push it all the way through using anything strong, metal, and dully pointed. I chose to use a hole punch.

You will completely remove the pin from the shotgun. Some are easier to push from one side than the other, I don’t know why and don’t know how to tell. I suppose you could look at the manual it came with. But let’s be grownups here, you threw it away.

This pin holds the action and pump to the frame of the gun. Once removed the gun will almost fall apart with the wrong angle.

Using a oil soaked cleaning patch wipe down all metal surfaces of the trigger and surrounding parts and check for dirt, carbon, or corrosion. When it seems over oily take a clean cleaning patch and wipe everything away. Go back and oil parts that need it.

Check all other moving parts for the same debris and clean with oiled patch. So something I haven’t invested in but should is a plug for my shotgun barrel. A plug is, just that-a plug, a rubber piece that has bristles, cotton, or whatever you want lining the sides with a 4 foot string going through it. You drop one end of the string down and pull the plug through. As it gets pulled through it cleans your barrel.

In the video I take the more labored route and use a cleaning patch on the end of a ramrod and scrub the inside instead.

Also I try not to cut out parts where I mess up or have to figure out what I’m doing. This is to show you a real take on me cleaning a gun instead of a video perfect version where I make you feel bad for not keeping up with me. Make mistakes, a life full of bad choices and decisions you don’t regret is full of fun and adventure!

This rifle is a Marlin XT-22. This Particular model is barreled in a 22 and can fire every version of the 22 round from subsonic to wmr. The Marlin XT is used to hunt small game animals and for vermin extermination. I use my own 22- wmr to hunt everything from squirrels to deer. The larger the animal the better shot placement needs to happen in order to make a clean kill. The actual rifle I’m cleaning in this video has been used to rabbits and squirrels. This rifle was part of a line of rimfire bolt- action rifles that Marlin put in production during the 2000s. These covered all manner of 17 and 22 rifle cartridges. This is a very good starting rifle for youth and for people who are not used to the kick and loud bang of a gun. Coming with a 4 and 7 round magazine you can always put “one in the chamber” to make your amount of rounds able to be held at one time to a technical 5 and 8 round capacity rifle. There are semi-automatic options for the 17 and 22 round line of rifles, but I like the bolt action in my hunting rifles. If this is a “home defense” or “in case uncle sam turns” gun then by all means get the semi or even full auto if needed.

Unload your gun, unload your gun, unload your gun.

After you make sure that your rifle is unloaded let’s start the disassembly, Hooray!

Make sure the safety is off. On this model you cannot remove the bolt with the safety on.

Open the ejector port and slide the bolt completely back. When the bolt comes to the end pull the trigger to remove the bolt for the gun completely.

Remove the proper screws from the underside of the rifle holding the metal and wooden parts from each other. Look over the wooden piece to check for any burning, carbon, or mold on the surface.

Remove with cloth if carbon or mold with some gun oil. With burning issues check your action to make sure there’s no cracks and all the parts line up correctly. It could also be that the gas is escaping through incorrect paths through your rifle.

Use a cleaning patch with some gun oil to wipe down carbon, dirt, or any corrosion that you see on your gun. Use a ramrod with a cleaning patch on the end to push through the barrel.

If you cannot push the patch through bc the barrel is too narrow you can cut up your cleaning patches into smaller pieces. Soak them in oil and push the entire cut up patches through the barrel in order to clean it out. Follow same steps with clean patches as well.

Today I'm gonna be going over a rib roast. Your going to need these items and ingredients:

Measurements are a ROUGH estimate

1/2- Cup Soy Sauce or Aminos

3-4- Spoon Full of Minced Garlic. If you have fresh garlic you can crush them with the flat side of a knife blade and dice them up.

1/3- Cup of sugar

A few squirts of siracha

These are for the marinade. You can use whatever you'd like. You don't need to use my marinade but in case you wanted to try it.

Add the soy sauce or aminos into a small bowl. Add the sugar and use the back of a spoon to grind the sugar until most of the sugar has dissolved. Add the garlic and mix. Taste and adjust ingredients to your personal preference. The marinade should have a sweet garlic teriyaki flavor.

At least 2 slabs of Deer Ribs

1 Pot that can hold the ribs without them sticking out.

Tongs or any other grabbing kitchen tool

First step is to make sure there is no fur or bone chips on your ribs. This will happen during the butchering process while skinning and sawing your ribs off of the rest of the carcass. The fur is just not wanted bc it has no nutritional or flavor value to the meat.

The bone chips are unpleasant to crunch on and many times they will come off jagged and sharp, removing them will avoid cuts in your mouth and cracked teeth.

This can be done with cold faucet water.

After you're done you will put them in a large pot filled with water to the point where at least 80% of the ribs are under water. You don't need them completely submerged because you can always flip them over. You're going to want to boil them for at least 2 hours, I usually go for 4 hours bc I leave them with the meat connected to the ribs on them.

At the hour and hour and half marks you're going to drain the water half to a quarter way.

Add more water from your hot water faucet. Do Not add cold water, you don't want the meat cooling down and heating up while it's being cooked. The ribs may float so every once in a while flip them over using kitchen tongs. The reason for cooking the ribs this way is to remove much of the hard fat that cannot be butchered away from the ribs. Wild game fats are different and have different forms of fat. The fat you're getting rid of I call lard fat. Bc while you eat and chew it will literally create a coat of coagulated hard fat over your teeth, tongue, and roof of your mouth to the point it will make your mouth feel smaller or as if someone is trying to make a wax mold of the inside of your mouth. Some say using a smoker will render it out or grilling at very high temperatures. I haven't tried these methods bc I just began boiling my ribs from the get go and it works very well.

When your ribs are done cooking pull them out of the water onto a flat board preferably over a sink. You don't need to add my marinade/sauce. You can choose whatever you'd like. This is just the marinade I usually use to prepare deer ribs. This marinade or Sticky Fingers barbecue sauce.

Only apply your marinade on the top side of the ribs. Let the ribs site for at least 15 minutes that it soaks up whatever you choose to put on them.

Place the ribs on your grill with the inside side down. When you flip them is when you apply your chosen sauce to the inside of the rib cage starting from the ends and spread in towards the center.

At your own discretion flip them over, to char the other side as well. This is to add the grill and browning flavors as well as cook your chosen sauce into the meat of your prepared ribs.

Once both sides have touched the grill you can flip over and add sauce as you like in order to get them to your desired sauce and charred level. Remove from the grill and enjoy. The cool off time depends on your ability to handle hot food.

In this post I’ve strung all the videos I took as we were butchering the deer. This entire process probably took 2-3 hours bc I was teaching someone new, we had to stop to sharpen knives, stop to examine injuries, test the meat in different areas to see if it had been affected by the injury, along with a few more bumps along the way. This is not a super common thing to happen. If I had to put a number to it I had shot 8 deer this season and 2 of them had injuries so 1 out of 4 deer could possibly have something wrong with them. On the other hand I’ve had to deal with sick or injured deer only 6-9 times at various rates of seriousness but I have shot killed and butchered over 80 deer.

This concludes the entire deer processing with a video going over each and every step. Bc this deer was injured and had to be handled carefully there are some gaps where you couldn’t see exactly what happened bc I had to take of those steps myself. In the future my wife will most likely be filming me going through the process myself in order for The Hive Community to see how of correctly treat such an animal. This deer was in my car for 2 days bc Nick wanted to learn how to complete the butchering process.

All the text and pictures showing in detail what is happening as we complete the process of the deer can be seen in my previous posts. I found it redundant to repost information that I already have on my blogs. This post just simply ties everything up and shows the process in one video.

The Mossberg 30-06 is a very popular and commonly used rifle here in the US. It comes in a variety or models and feed methods. Feed method is after firing a round how the gun reloads another live round into the chamber. This particular model is the Mossberg 100 ATR with a bolt action feed method. The 100 is just the number given to it without any real significance to the value and dependability of the rifle. Some guns will have the model number assigned based upon different characteristics belonging to the rifle, but this is not one of them. ATR stand for All Terrain Rifle, meaning it can be taken over almost any condition of land. The “condition” includes altitude, weather, temperature, moisture, ground and soil composition, and plant life. This means that it’s not a rifle to baby and constantly worry about. Its sturdy nature, high capacity rounds, and surface treatments make it favorable to back country hunters and bushwhackers alike.

If you’re looking for a rifle that goes bang with a lot of “umph” this is your rifle. The 30-06 round is large enough and has enough punching power to take down all large game animals in the US. It may need to be shot with more precise accuracy to kill the larger animals but should take care of anything on four legs, or two.

Tools you will need in addition to your cleaning kit will be an allen wrench.

You do NOT need to completely disassemble your guns to the nuts and bolts every time you clean it. The first part of the disassemble of this particular rifle will start with the bolt. Open up the ejector port and slide the bolt back. There should be a release should be almost directly on the opposite side of the safety. Push it down while removing the bolt.

Next you will use your allen wrench to remove the screw on the under side of the rifle in front of the trigger guard and a second one further down the handle. One will be longer than the other. It’s good to remember what part went where so you’re not having to put things in place and later removing them bc they weren't in the right place.

The drop magazine spring should stay attached to the bottom part of the rifle or the actual housing for the rounds when you separate the top and bottom. If it comes out like it showed in the video it’s fine, there is nothing wrong with your gun. That's the spring in my right hand.

Use a cleaning patch attached to a ram rod in order to clean out the barrel. This rifle was pretty much clean to begin with and didn’t really need a wire brush or soft brush to clean it. The patches did the trick just by themselves this time.

To wipe out the action all you need to do is add oil to a cleaning patch and use your finger to just reach around to the different areas. If you need to get to a space where your finger won’t fit used a brush, not the one that attached to the ramrod, with a few drops of oil in order to dig them out. You’ll find yourself using this method in order to get into corners mostly.

I poke and prod at the bolt opening up areas making sure I don’t have to disassemble the bolt in order to clean it. If the openings to the moving parts don’t have any carbon build up there won’t be any inside the bolt either.

Give everything a nice polish off and double check for dirt and grime before reassembling your rifle. When I went poking at the bolt I moved some parts around in order to open up and look inside. You need to reset everything to where it was when removed from the gun.

You can always backtrack and open your gun in order to make sure everything fits and moves properly. The spring to the magazine didn’t set straight when I was putting the rifle back together so I had to do just that.

My last comment was “sometimes the part just wants to say no the first time” before I put the loose screws back into the rifle completing the reassembly.
