Together, they explore why women deserve better support, more research, and practical solutions for managing the physical and emotional changes that come with this season of life.
From the benefits of strength training and protecting bone health to tracking symptoms and finding the confidence to speak up with healthcare providers, Janice and Lauren share simple, actionable ways to prioritize your well-being. They also discuss the importance of reducing stress, staying connected with other women, and rejecting the belief that suffering through menopause is simply "part of getting older."

Welcome to the Seasonal Sisters Podcast! Today's episode has a special guest, Mary E. Shuman-Williams. Mary is a retired case worker for abused and neglected children who married and had seven children at the age of fourteen. After overcoming a fear of water, she joined the Harlem Honeys and Bears Swim Team. She is now an active member of various clubs and committees, including the Sister-Sister Book Club and Gospel Choir. Mary is here to share her inspiring journey of how and when she began prioritizing her health.
As Mary recalls, there was a time when women became more aware of their health and started experimenting with various diets and fitness videos by Jack LaLane. However, these diets were unsustainable, and Mary soon realized the importance of consistent exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
Through her personal experiences, Mary encourages and inspires women to prioritize their health by incorporating physical activities into their daily routines, even if it's sporadic. She emphasizes how exercising can make a person feel lighter and better and significantly improve one's mood in both personal and professional life.
Getting started with exercise can be challenging, but Mary believes it's worth it in the end. By doing physical activities, one can reap immense benefits for both their mind and body. So, tune in to this episode and learn more about Mary's journey and how it can help you prioritize your health.
