Ken Festa is a man who literally wears many hats, many of them at the same time. He’s a business entrepreneur. A real estate specialist, a maker of fine Italian style men’s suits. And last but not least, a musical legend that specializes in the standards of American music. As a singer growing up in New York listening to some of the greatest Jazz vocalists of the 20th century, he found it most challenging to create something vocally that was truly his. Being influenced by greats like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Joe Williams and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as Big Bands such as Count Basie and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, those artists inspired Ken to do something respectful of these artists and the legacy they've created. John and Bob spend time with Ken, discussing his life, his career, what keeps him driven, and what it takes to be a successful businessman.

Artificial Intelligence. It's the hot button topic these days. Whether you like the concept, or you believe its an invasion of one's privacy, along with so many yet unanswered questions, it's going to affect you one way or another. Artificial Intelligence (commonly referred to as AI) is not only planting a firm footprint in the music industry, but also seeking solid ground in the financial world.
John and Bob have a discussion regarding AI, what it's accomplished so far, and what is on the horizon for both the music business, and the financial and banking industry. We also chat about this history of AI in music, going back to the 1940's discussing all forms of electronic music including the Theremin (look it up), and the Moog synthesizer.

We laugh, we cry, we sometimes deal with anger, and hopefully more often than not, we laugh. All of those are emotions. But is it smart to plan your investment strategy based on your emotions?
John and Bob talk about whether it makes sense to plan financially based on common sense, anaylitics, and research, or does it make sense to plan your financial strategy based on what you're feeling.
We also talk about songs that have titles based on emotions, songs with lyrics focusing on emotions, and bands that are just plain emotional.

In the music business, its no different than the rest of the business world, with the exception of that many of the workers in the industry are independent contractors. In many cases, it can be feast or famine when it comes to their income, and with that comes a struggle to keep their family budget in check. Enter Rachael Bronstein, who is the founder and financial coach at "LifesJam". A graduate of Questrom School of Business at Boston College, Rachael brings her years of experience to those in the music industry who struggle with balancing and living within a set budget. She shows her clients how to put together a realistic game plan that not only allows them to work within the music entertainment industry, but show them how they can put money aside into savings.
We also talk a bit about her favorite artists (spoiler alert, she's a Country Music Fan), and how she got into the business.

Summer is just about over. Labor Day weekend is right around the corner, and its time to pack away the white pants until next year. But its still warm enough outside to wear shorts for another few weeks. With that being said, John and Bob talk about shorts. Not the kind you wear, but when it comes to financial planning, we're talking about "Short Selling". What is short selling, and how does one go about doing it, and does it make good financial sense? You'll have to tune in to find out.
Also, John and Bob talk one last time (at least for this year) songs of Summer.

There’s an old saying that Summer is a time for investors to lay low. Families are on vacation, kids are playing little league baseball, and it's typically considered a time to get away from the office for some R&R.
However this year (2023) seems to be different. The S&P is up, and folks are still buying, trading, and selling stocks as much as they would the rest of the year. John Adams shares some financial and investing trivia with us, while Bob Bender shares some of his old road touring stories with bands during the summer time.

As a touring guitarist, Donovan White knows road life all too well. He once traveled 43 hours – each way – for a gig with the Alternative Rock Band “Vertical Horizon”, playing a festival gig in Shillong, India. But White isn’t complaining. He’s living the dream that he has had since playing air guitar along with KISS albums as a child growing up in St. Louis Park, Minn.
It was quite the journey to get there… and beyond. His family moved to Texas and then Kansas City in the early ‘80s. White then spent nearly two decades songwriting, recording, collaborating and performing with various Kansas City-based bands and indie labels. Along the way, he got to know a sound engineer named Jay Phebus. In 2010, Phebus was working with Vertical Horizon and asked White if he would be interested in being considered for a touring guitarist opportunity with the band. “Of course!” replied White. Then White heard nothing … until Thanksgiving 2011. That’s when opportunity struck. “Vertical Horizon called and asked if I wanted to play a show on New Year’s Eve – in Anchorage, Alaska,” said White. “They said, ‘Here’s 15 songs … we’ll see you there.’ The audition was the show.”
Donovan spends time in the studio with John and Bob, talking about not only the road life, but the music business in general. It's a very enlightening and informative conversation about what it’s like to work in the entertainment industry.

Sleep. It's the most important thing a human can do to their body. We need it. We want it. We desire it. But sometimes it can be elusive. The tossing and turning. The pills (both over the counter, and prescriptive) that we take to help us fall into slumber is only a temporary solution. So what do we do?
Dr William Lloyd (or as we now refer to him as "Dr. Bill" as he's become a semi-regular guest on the show) takes us on a journey of what sleep does for us, how we can overcome the obstacles that seem to get in our own way at night, and some very simple solutions on how to acheive and maintain quality sleep. And.... as in the title, punctuation is always keep to getting the correct message across.

We survived Rock N Pod Fest to come back with another episode of 2 Dudes Talk Money and Music (although Covid made an entrance a few days later). In this episode, we take a step back and discuss Crypto Currency. Sort of a Prequel to episode #20 titled "Wrapping Your Head Around Blockchain and BitCoin". We also touch base briefly on the ongoing FTX mess, and how that's affecting the Crypto Currency world.
Last but not least, we discuss our mutual favorite topic of conversation... music. In this particular episode, we chat about the prequels, along with the remakes or covers of songs, including such hits as "Spooky", songs covered by The Kinks, Van Halen, and even a remake of Neil Sedaka's very own "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do", done by none other than.... Neil Sedaka himself.

A current topic of conversation these days seems to be the price of eggs. It's a hot button for a lot of folks, and we don't see the price dropping anytime in the foreseable future. The bigger question is, does it make sense to have all of your eggs in one basket? Should you spread them around for safekeeping?
John and Bob have a conversation as to what it means to keep all of your finances in one basket so to speak, along with diversifing one's financial portfolio. We also found the time to locate songs that talk about eggs. That in itself is well worth the listen!

If you follow the news lately, you might know that we're in a recession. Or, we're not. It depends on who you ask. John and Bob talk with music publisher Trey Bruce, who is the owner and President of Galore Entertainment, a new entertainment company that develops artists and publishing assets through exploitation & sync licensing.
Emmy Award winning songwriter, Trey Bruce, moved to Nashville just in time for the 1990s Country Music boom. Trey was a rock drummer from Memphis so… what could go wrong? Luckily, as an unpublished songwriter, Trey’s first demo got cut almost immediately by Shelby Lynn and was a top 15 hit so, as a result he signed his first publishing deal with MCA Music in November of 1989. During the MCA years Trey had a few minor cuts and then, his first #1 single, on Randy Travis called, “Look Heart No Hands”.
After three years at MCA, in 1993, Trey co-founded a small indie publishing company, Big Tractor Music, with renowned record producer Scott Hendricks and there Trey received 13 ASCAP Awards, an Emmy Award, five #1 singles, multiple top 5 and top 10 radio hits and an Academy Of Country Music, Song Of The Year nomination. During the Tractor years Trey developed a love for coffee and long nights in the studio so he became a record producer.
In 2005 Trey started a publishing/artist development joint venture with Chrysalis Music in Nashville. At Chrysalis Trey searched out new artists before anyone else had discovered them. Trey signed and developed teenagers, Charlie Worsham now on Warner Brothers, John & TJ Osborne of Brothers Osborne now on Universal Records, Chris Janson also on Warner Brothers and American Idol’s 12th season runner-up, Kree Harrison. During this period Trey was writing songs with Scott Weiland, Billy Gibbons, Kerry Kurt Phillips, LeAnn Rimes, CarrieUnderwood, Katherine McPhee, Duff McKagan and Richard Marx. Trey wrote and helped build, from scratch, a catalog of more than 800 songs in 5 years, as well as cuts in the Rock format and two #1 singles in Australia and Canada.
