With a membership of over 3,700 and over 350 clubs, this organization plays a meaningful role in the communities it serves. In keeping with tradition, "The Sound of the South" I dedicate this episode to my mom, Mary Jo who passed away in 2020. She was born and raised in the South and in this episode I discuss the irony of having moved to an area very similar to where she grew up. It was a little emotional editing this episode as I included live audio of Mom describing how she and my dad met, a story I'd never heard until recently. Listening to it makes me realize how that generation took with it so many things I hold dear today. I end the episode with my mom telling a story about when she was a young girl and a prank she played on her brother after he spoke disrespectfully toward her. I'm not sure what's more amusing; the prank itself or to hear her tell it. Happy Mother's Day! #happymothersday #mom #thesouth

Northwest Arkansas Airport (XNA) is unlike a lot of other national airports I've visited. Instead of being stuck at the end of town, XNA is kind of in the middle of everywhere you'd want to visit. Recently over 500 airports across the United States submitted applications to receive federal money from the US Dept of Transportation Small Community Development program. The Transportation department was looking to support airports that among other things, had aging infrastructure and ADA compliance issues. XNA was one of 85 airports to receive money and it ended up receiving 13 million dollars which will help with some pretty special projects expected to be completed by the Spring of 2025. Experience a brief tour through Van Buren, Arkansas with us. We will start at the oldest county courthouse west of the Mississippi and head down Main Street stopping at the Visitors Center; hop on an old fashioned refurbished trolley and hear from its driver, Lance, a history guide and longtime resident of Van Buren. We'll then then conclude with a tour with Coralee Young, Community Relations Manager from Arts on Main, the most forward thinking art experience I've witnessed yet. There is something for everyone here in Historic Van Buren, young and old! At the end of this tour I promise you'll want to make a beeline to Van Buren, Arkansas and experience it for yourself. It's clean, accessible, walkable and as friendly as a small town in Northwest Arkansas could be.

I first heard of Aman Jabbi through Julianne Romanello, a researcher, scholar and professor whom I've been following for the last year. What interested me most about Aman Jabbi is his background as an electrical engineer and computer scientist responsible for the development of smartphone camera technology. Since the Covid lockdowns, surveillance cameras have become increasingly ubiquitous in order to pave the way for Digital Identity and 15 Minute Cities. Aman moved from Silicon Valley to Montana in 2020 and is now educating others about this "smart technology," and what it may mean for the future of our privacy and freedom. For the price of fuel and possibly parking, The Lights of the Ozarks promises an evening of enchantment and entertainment. Grab your coat, scarf & some gloves and take a light stroll on Northwest Arkansas's Downtown Square. Each year, employees of The City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department dedicate 3,300+ hours to decorating the Downtown Square for Lights of the Ozarks. Established in 1827, Canehill was the first permanent settlement in Washington County, Arkansas. Did you know there are 18 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places? We'll tour one of the state's first colleges (and first co-ed college) and more. Join me as I explore Canehill College, Canehill Presbyterian Church (established in 1891) as well as the museum. A Civil War battle was also fought right here in Canehill, Arkansas.

Walk along a scenic, short tree-lined path only to be greeted with a sprawling 3 acre contained dog park for both small and large dogs. Easily accessible with night lights to ensure that irrespective of your schedule, your 4-legged friends can frolick freely. The City of Fayetteville really nailed it when planning this park. I can't think of a thing that could improve this little arena of canine-joy.
