Miracles and Prophecies of Saint John Bosco: Recent Episodes

Matthew Miller

Saint John Bosco was a jewel in our history, a model of piety and a ferocious warrior against the enemies of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and we’ll attempt to analyze all the facets of his pious life.

Prophet, diplomat, miracle worker, counselor, visionary, devotee of Our Lady, prolific writer, role model for wayward boys, founder of the Salesians, priest, rock of scandal, warrior against heresies…

I could go on and on, but it all can be summed up by the phrase “Christianus alter Christus” -- Christ-like. The patron saint of apprentices, editors and publishers, schoolchildren, magicians, and wayward children.

An attempt was made by the Salesians to document his daring deeds for Christ, which resulted in 19 large volumes and are our primary source of his most inspiring life.

He is a veritable font of interesting anecdotes and inspiring stories, so please subscribe so that you won’t miss any of our shows. Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to make them worth your time.

This is the only complete and unabridged version of Saint John Bosco’s vision of hell on YouTube. Become a Promoter of Saint John Bosco: https://saintjohnbosco.net/promoter-of-saint-john-bosco/ In Saint Theresa of Avila’s Poem, No Me Mueves, (I am not moved) she proclaims:“I am not moved, my God, to love Thee by the Heaven Thou hast promised me; nor am I moved by fear of Hell to cease for that reason to offend Thee.Thou art what moves me, Lord; it moves me to see Thee nailed to a cross and scorned…”Saint Theresa of Avila’s words were the highest expression of a disinterested love, for she loved Our Lord ardently without any motivation by personal benefit. However, until we achieve that degree of sanctity, we need to be reminded of the pains of Hell to move us along the path of holiness. This is why hearing about all the horrors in Saint John Bosco’s mystical dream of Hell is a gift from God that we should appreciate and take advantage of. He didn’t have to give us a glimpse of the afterlife but revealed it to Don Bosco because he loves us. Listening to this entire dream should be done calmly and with complete confidence in God, but not forgetting that God is letting you hear this story so you can repent and suffer for your sins in this life rather than burn in the next. 00:00 Introduction01:28 Part 1 - How to Escape the Snares of the Devil10:53 Part 2 - How His Boys Can Avoid Hell20:26 Part 3 – Entering Hell36:10 Part 4 – Don Bosco’s Hand is Seared Walls of Hell45:19 Consoling Words

On May 26, 1862, Saint John Bosco had promised the boys that he would tell them something pleasant on the last, or second to the last day of the month, and so at the “Good Night Talk” on May 30, he narrated this parable, or allegory, as he chose to call his dreams:

A few nights ago, I had a dream that I would like to tell you about. It’s true, dreams are nothing but dreams, but still, I’ll tell them to you for your spiritual benefit. Try to picture yourselves with me on the seashore or, better still, on an outlying cliff with no other land in sight. The vast expanse of water is covered with a formidable array of ships in battle formation, prows fitted with sharp, spear-like spars capable of breaking through any defense. All are heavily armed with cannons, incendiary bombs, firearms, and other explosives. They are all heading toward one stately ship, mightier than them all. As they close in, they try to ram it, set it on fire, and cripple it as much as possible.

A flotilla escort shields this stately vessel, and the winds and waves are with the enemy. Amid this endless sea, two solid columns soar high into the sky a short distance apart. At the very top of one is a statue of the Immaculate Virgin, at whose feet a large inscription reads: "Auxilium Christianorum," Help of Christians; on top of the other, far loftier and sturdier, supports a Sacred Host proportional in size to the column and bears beneath it the inscription "Salus Credentium," Salvation of believers.

The commander of the great ship is the Roman Pontiff. Seeing the enemy’s fury, and his auxiliary ships’ grave predicament, he summons his captains to a conference. However, as they discuss their strategy, a furious storm breaks out, and they must return to their ships.

When the storm abates, the Pope again summons his captains as the flagship continues. But the storm rages again, and standing at the helm, the Pope strains every muscle to steer his ship between the two columns from whose tops hang many anchors and strong hooks linked to chains.

The enemy fleet closes in to intercept and sink the flagship at all costs. They bombard it with everything they have; incendiary bombs, firearms, cannons and every imaginable explosive. Now, the battle rages on ever more furious. Pointed iron prows ram the flagship repeatedly but to no avail. Unscathed and undaunted, it keeps on its course. At times, a formidable ram splinters a gaping hole in its hull; however, a breeze from the two columns immediately seals the gash.

Meanwhile, enemy cannons blow up, firearms break and fall to pieces, and ships crack in two and sink to the bottom of the ocean. In blind fury, the enemy resorts to hand-to-hand combat, cursing, and blaspheming. Suddenly the Pope falls, seriously wounded. He is instantly helped up but struck down again, then dies. A shout of victory rises from the enemy, and wild rejoicing sweeps their ships. But no sooner is the Pope dead than another one takes his place. The captains of the auxiliary ships elected him so quickly that the news of the Pope’s death coincided with that of his successor’s election. The enemy’s self-assurance wanes pitifully as they feel victory slip through their fingers.

Breaking through all resistance, the new Pope steers his ship safely between the columns and moors it to both of them; first, to the one with the Sacred Host, and then to the other that is topped by the statue of the Virgin. At this point, something unexpected happens. The enemy ships panic and disperse, colliding with and sinking each other.

“Carry your cross on your back and take it as it comes, small or large, whether from friends or enemies and of whatever wood it be made.” – Quote from St. John Bosco.

Since today is Good Friday, when Our Lord suffered the passion, I felt that the only appropriate thing to do for this episode would be to pray the Way of the Cross. I’ve put in pictures taken from the famous Holy Week processions in Seville to illustrate the prayers for the way of the cross written by the great Catholic thinker, Professor Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira. So please take some time today to follow along in Christ’s passion. I wish you a very blessed Good Friday.

Hello podcast listeners! I just wanted to jump on here and say that “The Miracles and Prophecies of St. John Bosco Podcast” is going to be a little bit different from here on out.

I can’t tell you how many people have told me that they prefer long-form podcasts: the longer, the better and I totally agree with that as an avid audiobook listener, myself. Ten-minute episodes may work for YouTube, but I can understand being a bit frustrated with that in podcast form. So, I decided that at the end of every month I would take all the 10 minute YouTube episodes from that month and make one big podcast episode out of it. So the episode titles will be something like, “March, 2023 — Episodes 17-31.” I do hope that it will make it easier for everyone involved. However, if you’re dying to know what’s going on before the big podcast comes out, you can always swing by the YouTube channel and check out a couple of episodes as a teaser. Lastly, I can’t believe how many people are already listening to this podcast and I appreciate every one of you; I will be including you in my daily Rosary!

St. John Bosco, pray for us!

The analysis and commentaries we in this video were given to us by the illustrious Catholic thinker, Professor Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira. He made these remarks upon learning that Saint John Bosco attempted to intervene in the world political climate that was ruining Europe by destroying the vestiges of relationships between Catholic countries. Had Franz Joseph followed the advice of this great saint, history would have been completely different.

Here’s the full text of St. John Bosco’s letter:

“Letter from Don Bosco to Franz Joseph, May 14, 1873

This is what the Lord says to the Emperor of Austria:

Take heart! Provide for my faithful servants and yourself!

My fury is poured out over all the nations of the earth because you want to make them forget my law, to bring those who profane it into triumph and to oppress those who observe it.

Wilt thou be the rod of my power?

Wilt thou fulfill my arcane wills and become a benefactor of the world?

Lean on the powers of the North, but not on Prussia.

Make relations with Russia, but no alliance.

Associate with France, after France, you will have Spain.

Make one Spirit and one action.

You must have the utmost secrecy with the enemies of my Holy Name. With prudence and energy, you will become invincible.

Do not believe the lies of those who would tell you otherwise.

Abhor the enemies of the Crucified One.

Hope and trust in Me, Who am the Giver of victories to armies, the Savior of peoples and Sovereigns. Amen. Amen.”

Suffice it to say that the correspondence of one person can change the course of history in radically good ways; we can also say that the lack of correspondence can change them in the opposite direction.

Novena to One’s Holy Guardian Angel by St. John Bosco.

  1. My Guardian Angel, thou who hast not disdained to take such great care of

me, a wretched sinner: Oh! do thou, I pray thee, strengthen my soul with a living

faith, steadfast hope, and burning charity; so that, despising the world, I may

desire to love and serve my God alone.

Angel of God...(3x); Glory be...(3x).

  1. Most noble prince of the Heavenly Court, who hast deigned to take such

great care of this poor soul of mine, defend it from the snares and assaults of the

devil, that I may never again offend my Lord.

Angel of God...(3x); Glory be...(3x).

  1. Most glorious spirit, who with diligent kindness dost tirelessly occupy

thyself with the welfare of my soul, obtain for me the grace that I may be ever

devoted to thee, and that I may always be faithful in carrying out all that thou

wilt suggest to me in my heart.

Angel of God...(3x); Glory be...(3x).

  1. Most merciful guardian of my soul, thou hast so many times humbled

thyself in coming from Heaven to earth in order to exercise thy ministry for the

benefit of such a vile being as I! Grant that I, too, may acquire a true spirit of

humility. And may I be fully convinced that by myself I can do nothing, save

with thy powerful aid and the grace of my Lord.

Angel of God...(3x); Glory be...(3x).

  1. Most benign spirit, who dost exert so much effort and care for the salvation

of my soul, obtain for me from Our Lord, that at the end of my life, in the care of

thy defense, my soul may in that moment pass from thy hands into the most

loving embrace of my Jesus.

Angel of God...(3x); Glory be...(3x).

Final Prayer

Because, my most amiable Guardian, all that thou dost for me is directed

solely to the salvation of my soul: Oh! do thou, I beg thee, when I am on my

death bed and deprived of all my senses, immersed in the anguish of my agony;

when my soul is about to separate from my body to appear before its Creator; do

thou defend my soul from its enemies, that rising victorious, it may be conducted

by thyself to enjoy forever the glory of Paradise. So be it. Amen.

When analyzing all of St. John Bosco’s writings and sermons, it’s clear that he considered devotion to guardian angels a major priority. He was constantly bringing them up: almost as if he could see them. Once he told his Oratory boys: “Be good, this will make your guardian angel happy. When physical or spiritual sorrows and misfortunes afflict you, turn to your guardian angel with strong trust, and he’ll help you. How many people in mortal sin were saved from death by their angels so they might have a chance for confession? Woe to those who give scandal! The guardian angels of innocent victims will cry out for vengeance to God.”

His beautiful words bring new aspects of guardian angels to light and make them all the more real.

But this wasn’t just a piece of flowery oration from our saint. He knew that if his boy’s prayed to their guardian angels, they would be saved from an untimely death and the story I have for you today confirmed his belief.

This is a story about a woman on the verge of death from tuberculosis. She was a hardened sinner that had no interest in confessing her sins and even threw a vase at St. Joseph Cafasso. Not even he, the priest of the gallows, could change her mind. Only St. John Bosco, cunning as a fox, managed even to approach her deathbed. We will recount their incredible conversation in this episode.

In this episode, we cover the resolution of a historical mystery. Don Bosco had a vision of the Blessed Mother in which she indicated the exact location of where two martyrs of the Theban Legion were executed near Turin. She showed him how to weather all the storms that would batter him so that he could establish his Oratory over that exact blessed spot.

Our story begins in 1845. The Marchioness Barolo had given permission to house Don Bosco’s Oratory boys in the Refugio near her brand new hospital of St. Philomena until it officially opened in August. The oratory boys stayed at the refuge for seven months, but when July came, Don Bosco realized that they were in deep trouble and had nowhere else to go.

The Marchioness Barolo was firm in her resolve to kick them out, though she was a kind woman and looked favorably on any work of charity, but this was too much: the boys were causing trouble. Don Bosco retorted that he was ready to suffer any discomfort rather than abandon his young men. Nothing was resolved by this exchange and as darkness fell that evening, darkness and desolation descended upon the saint himself.

But strange and intricate dreams came to comfort him during the whole of that night, as he recounted once to Don Giulio Barberis on February 2, 1875.

This is the story of a strange supernatural phenomenon that happened at night in Don Bosco’s Oratory school for boys. It was a sign from the Blessed Mother that involved an earthquake, gusty winds and a mysterious ball of fire.

In all his works, Don Bosco sought only the glory of God and the good of souls. Therefore, it shouldn’t seem strange that the Blessed Virgin helped him in person to fulfill his duties and watch over the Oratory boys, as today’s story would indicate. However, unbiased critics are free to examine, discuss, and accept or reject them. Accordingly, I leave it to you to judge what we shall expound upon now, but I ask you to note that this event from the life of Saint John Bosco, and his words during the year 1862, were witnessed by 500 pupils, priests, clerics and other Oratory residents.

Father Giovanni Bonetti both documented and testified to the veracity of this narrative.

In this Don Bosco story, we’ll hear how the Blessed Virgin Mary herself gave advice to each Oratory Boy. The Cleric Dominic Ruffino and Father John Bonetti recorded what happened on January 1, 1862:

“Finally, after the prayers, the young people waited in silence for Don Bosco to mount the podium. The saint began: 'The strenna I am giving you is not mine. What would you say if Our Lady came in person to each of you to say a word? If She had prepared for each of you her note to indicate to him what he most needs or what She wants from him? Well, the thing is precisely like that. Our Lady gives each one a strenna!'"

An incident in St. John Bosco’s life that, as he says, taught him to be humble and also brought about a miracle of Divine Providence.

“After this warning, I made a firm resolution henceforth to prepare my sermons for the greater glory of God rather than appear learned and literate.” – St. John Bosco

The story also confirms what is found in Psalm 40:1 -- “Blessed is he who has concern for the wretched and poor, as the Lord will deliver him on an evil day. The Lord will preserve him, give him life, make him blessed above the earth, and not deliver him to his enemies. The Lord will assist him on his sickbed and remove his sickness from head to foot.”

This is the final part of St. John Bosco’s Bosco’s vision of Hell. In order to merit from the graces God is giving us in hearing about this dream, I ask that before the video, everyone pray a Hail Mary to Our Lady Help of Christians, who Don Bosco loved so much.

In reflecting on this Dream, one should remember that the true Catholic can be serene, joyous, even lively, he can be whatever is permissible by the Commandments, but must have a permanent foundation of seriousness. Look at Saint John Bosco’s picture. We see charity, tranquility and serenity, but above all; we see a profound seriousness. Why such a seriousness? Because everything in life is serious, and we are dealing with the gravest and most serious thing that exists: Our eternal destiny.

Above all, for the Catholic there is a celestial medicine for carrying the cross of seriousness, expressed in the ineffable words, “Salve Regina, Mater Misericordiae, vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve!” (Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope!) Pray to Our Lady. She will smile. And one smile from Her gives us the strength for a hundred years of seriousness.

This video is part three of our four-part series recounting Don Bosco’s mystical vision of Hell. We’ll now hear how Don Bosco entered the gates of Hell under the protection of his supernatural guide.

Here's an excerpt from the dream:

A new group of boys came hurtling down, and the portals momentarily opened. The guide said to me:

“Come inside with me!”

I pulled back in horror. I could not wait to rush back to the Oratory to warn the boys lest others might be lost. But my guide insisted:

“Come and you will learn a lot. But first, tell me: Do you want to go alone or with me?” He asked this to make me realize that I lacked strength and thus needed his friendly assistance. I replied:

“Alone into that horrible place? How could I ever find my way out without your help?”

A thought then dawned on me that aroused my courage: One must be judged before he is condemned to hell, and I haven’t been judged yet! So, I resolutely exclaimed: “Let’s go!”

This is part two of St. John Bosco's Vision of Hell. Please come back Friday for part three.

Many people think: “I am young. God forgives all sins, besides, I have so much time yet to live.”

But who says you have so much time? Look at Don Bosco’s Oratory boys. They were students of one of the greatest saints of all time. I mean, he raised them and told them his mystical dreams. Nevertheless, some of them still sinned and went to Hell as we shall hear in this next episode, which is part two of his dream on Hell. The snares we are all subject to are described in detail in order to help us not fall, and if we do, how to remedy our plight.

In Saint Theresa of Avila’s Poem, No Me Mueves, (I am not moved) she proclaims:

“I am not moved, my God, to love Thee by the Heaven Thou hast promised me; nor am I moved by fear of Hell to cease for that reason to offend Thee.

Thou art what moves me, Lord; it moves me to see Thee nailed to a cross and scorned…”

Saint Theresa of Avila’s words were the highest expression of a disinterested love, for she loved Our Lord ardently without any motivation by personal benefit.

And so, we begin our four-part series on Don Bosco’s vision of Hell.

This is part one of our three part series of St. John Bosco's mystical vision: "The Mysterious Vine."

“I saw in my bedroom a most loathsome toad, as big as an ox, that squatted at the foot of my bed. I stared breathlessly. It was green and its legs, body, and head swelled and grew more and more repugnant. His fiery eyes, red-lined mouth and throat presented a terrifying sight. His bones were made of fire and his bony ears were very small. I kept staring and muttering: “But a toad has no ears!” I also noticed two horns jutting from its snout and two greenish wings sprouting from its sides. Its legs looked like those of a lion, and its long tail ended in a forked tip.”

The young Domenico Battagliotti was a student of Saint John Bosco and narrates the following episode in his life: “I am a young man who was freed from very serious misfortune through the intercession of the august Queen of Heaven guided by Don Bosco.”

“Eager to have a good education, I sought the help and advice of my pastor, who found me a place at the Oratory of St. Francis de Sales. I was elated and could hardly wait to go there for a refresher course in August. However, a bad accident dashed all my hopes. One evening in May, while saying my prayers, I fell from a barn onto the hard pavement and remained unconscious for two days. Everyone thought I could die at any moment.

“My whole body felt broken, but thanks to the doctor and my relatives’ care, after two days, I regained consciousness and hope of recovery. However, when I tried to study and learn, I could not understand or remember what I read. Still, encouraged by my pastor, I decided to go to the Oratory and give it a try.

There, my desolation grew because I spent more time on books and paid the greatest attention, but I could neither understand nor learn anything. I spent days in sadness and tears seeing my colleagues progressing daily in their lessons while my mind remained blank. One morning I went into the sacristy and told Don Bosco in tears: ‘Don Bosco, please cure me of my headache.’

Don Bosco was deeply affected by the pathetic scenes he saw in Turin of so many youths on the path of dishonor and perdition. They didn’t observe the divine law because they were unaware of it. They outraged their Creator without even knowing Him and Don Bosco felt motivated to take prompt and solicitous care of them.

His innocent heart was greatly embittered at the thought that most of those poor souls were miserably lost because they were not instructed in the truths of the faith. Groaning with the Prophet Isaiah, he exclaimed, “Oh! these people are ignorant of the things of salvation; hell has enlarged its bosom and opened its boundless chasms; there shall fall their champions, the people, the great and the mighty.” (Is 5:13-14).

Don Bosco had thought long and hard about when or even how to begin his Oratory for boys and was waiting for an opportunity to fulfill his design when an unexpected event opened the way. It occurred on December 8, 1841, the solemn feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God, which was especially fitting because any family needs a loving mother to be well-ordered, educated and protected. Our Lady selected that special feastday to signify that she was to be the most pious Mother and powerful Protectress of the Oratory.

Saint John Bosco’s life became largely influenced by the many dreams he had, starting in his youth, at the age of nine. One might object that we shouldn’t predicate our life based on dreams. However, Don Bosco’s dreams were not the ordinary kind: they were visions and he was humble and docile to the direction of the clergy on how to interpret them.

It was through the direction of the Catholic Church that we see Don Bosco take the direction Divine Providence had planned for him. In this episode, we hear the full story of his first prophetic dream.

Saint John Bosco’s dreams were a primary source for him to understand what Our Lady wanted from him. He understood this in part by the guidance given to him by the Catholic clergy and by analyzing what these dreams represented in light of logic, facts and his holy faith.

His behavior is a model for us today as we should direct our own lives in accordance with firm reason and faith and therefore act in a principled way in spite of the apparent obstacles we face.

Anyone who’s read “The Forty Dreams of St. John Bosco,” is familiar with his phrase, “I stayed up late writing.” Well, what did he write? Hardly anyone has heard of the prodigious amounts of wonderful literature penned by him. For instance, did you know that he wrote about Islam (or Mohammedanism as they called it back then)? In his 1853 work, “The Catholic Instructed in His Religion,” he teaches doctrine through telling the story of a father having conversation with his son about a variety of Catholic topics. We’ll now hear how he sums up Islam in this episode.

Saint John Bosco had no illusions regarding the evil of false religions and the immense damage they do. He knew that there was no reconciliation between error and truth and taught that to his boys with affection and charity. Thus, he showed the contrast between truly Catholic behavior and the ramblings of a charlatan. #donboscostories

Our Lady sent Don Bosco advice for the sanctification of his Oratory boys in the form of mystical dreams. These visions late at night were incredibly taxing and would often leave the saint more tired than when he went to bed. But lessons contained in these experiences were not just good for the Oratory boys to hear, they’re good for everyone. For you and me.

We will now recount the dream, “A Fiendish Elephant,” on this episode of “The Miracles and Prophecies of Saint John Bosco.”

Here's an excerpt from the story:

"My dear boys, I dreamed it was a feast day afternoon. You all were playing, and I was in my room with the literature professor, Thomas Vallauri, discussing literature and religion. Suddenly someone knocked at my door, and I rose and opened it quickly. My mother, who has been dead for six years now, stood there saying:

'Come and see! Come and see!'

'What’s happening?' I asked.

'Come,' she replied.

I ran to the balcony and saw a huge elephant surrounded by a crowd of boys in the playground.

'How did this happen? Let’s rush downstairs!'"

St. John Bosco had a dream of building a church for his Oratory School dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians. He hired builders for this purpose, but was in desperate need for donations to keep the project afloat. The sails of his ship, so to speak, were at the mercy of the winds of Divine Providence and he therefore prayed to Our Lady Help of Christians for a miracle. But her assistance proved to be just in the nick of time, which made it all the more inspiring.

This episode in Saint John Bosco’s life clearly shows his ability to discern the intentions of souls and guide them to do the will of God, no matter how difficult that might be. It should

also give us a great confidence in his willingness to help us in our trials and his ability to obtain for us graces for our sanctification.

St. Elias is credited with performing the first resurrection on the only son of a widow.

“[He] cried to the Lord, and said: O Lord my God, let the soul of this child, I beseech thee, return into his body. And the Lord heard the voice of Elias: and the soul of the child returned into him, and he revived” (I Kings, 17: 21-23).

It is recorded in the New Testament that Our Lord, Jesus Christ, raised Lazarus and the daughter of Jairus from the dead, but have you ever of heard of Saint John Bosco resurrecting anyone?

This highlight of Don Bosco’s life is what we will be covering in today’s episode of “The Miracles and Prophecies of Saint John Bosco,” a project of America Needs Fatima.

This account was written by Joseph Brosio to Father John Bonetti and subsequently documented and released to the public.

St. John Bosco was greatly admired by young people because they continually witnessed his great virtues and were sure that he was a true friend of God. They regarded him as a living Gospel, a model priest and a faithful portrait of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Young and old boarders and non-boarders, in the Oratory School for boys, attributed to him the power of doing wonderous things, and even miracles, to which they readily testified. As the years went by, they never lost that conviction. Hundreds of them have talked about things they saw or were told about by companions.

Today, I’m going to recount to you a series of miracles performed by this great saint for our times, transmitted to us in writing and collected by Fr. Chiala.

Today, we have two stories that demonstrate Don Bosco’s “discernment of spirits.” That is, his ability to read a soul in order to do good. In the confessional, when God permitted, he knew exactly what to say and how to act in order to convert hardened sinners.

He would even have premonitions of what was going to happen to people and would accordingly advise them on future events in their life.

One of the stories will definitely convince you to never embark upon a long journey without first saying your prayers for the trip. Seat belts are one thing, but having the protection of God is far more important, as we shall soon see.

These events in Saint John Bosco’s life, help us to understand the serious need for prayer and devotion to our holy guardian angels, who are so frequently forgotten in the rush of our daily lives. I pray that you receive the grace to become more devoted to the angels in imitation of this great saint’s life.

There was a time in the beginning of Don Bosco's priestly life where almost everyone around him thought that he had lost his mind. He devoted so much time to his apostolate with delinquent street boys and talked so frequently of buying a massive Oratory that, as we shall see in today’s episode, they tried to send him to an insane asylum.

What had happened to Our Lord Jesus Christ occurred with Don Bosco: “The crowd so surrounded him that he could not even take food. Having heard such things, his own people seized him, saying: ‘He has gone mad’ (Mark 3:20-21).

But Don Bosco outwitted his dissenters in a way that is the material of legends.

The uncertainty of our lives can be terrifying when faced with life altering decisions. We sometimes feel that God could never bring good out of the situation we're in, so we fear and we tremble.

This was not Saint John Bosco’s attitude. He knew that God would provide for him in his bold plans for his Oratory school for boys. He behaved fearlessly with a conviction that only can be found in those who seek to do the right thing.

In today’s story, I want to show you how a saint acts when no one believes in him and is abandoned by everyone, simply for trying to accomplish his God given mission.

There was once a time when Saint John Bosco couldn’t afford a decent chalice for Mass at his Oratory School for boys. One night, he was told during a dream that someone had placed a sufficient sum in his trunk. The next day as he walked into town to take care of some business, the dream resurfaced in his mind and he was so excited, that he went back home to rummage through his trunk. He found eight lire—precisely the sum needed to buy the chalice. No stranger could have put it there because the chest was permanently closed. His mother Margaret had no money to make such surprises and was greatly astonished when she heard about it.

This is just a small example of the authenticity and power of Don Bosco’s visions sent by God mostly while he was asleep, in the form of dreams. Visions in his life were abundant, but today we’re going examine one in particular, where Our Lady appeared and explained how we can know if we’re on the path to Heaven or Hell.

We read in the sacred Bible and ecclesiastical history that sometimes God uses beasts in extraordinary ways to defend and benefit his servants. As the prophet Elisha was taunted by a brigade of irreligious and insolent youths, behold two bears descended out of a nearby forest and wrought havoc among them. For seventy years, a desert raven brought food daily to St. Paul the Hermit, the first founder of solitary life. St. Anthony needed to bury the corpse of a desert dweller but lacked the tools to dig his grave. Whereupon two lions appeared, dug it with their paws to the correct size, and departed like meek lambs after the saint blessed them.

When St. John Bosco was in severe danger, Divine Providence deigned to provide him with a singular bodyguard: a large and beautiful gray dog that has been and will be the subject of many rumors and suppositions. There were several young men who saw him, petted him, and learned memorable details about his saga.

In this episode, we recount some of the best stories from their reports.

Over a hundred times in St. John Bosco’s life, God would communicate to him through visions at night while he slept. He would later relate them to his Oratory boys conveying the lessons he learned and would refer to them as dreams, though oftentimes during these experiences he felt that they were entirely real.

Today we’re going to hear the saint’s dream about satanic cats that hindered his oratory boys from making a good confession...

'At that point, I saw here and there young men with a noose around their necks squeezing theirthroats and I asked:

“Why do you have that noose? Take it off.”

They did not answer but just stared at me.

“Help,” I told someone, “take that noose off.”

The young man answered:

“I can’t take it off; someone behind me is holding it. Come and see for yourself.”

I focused carefully on that multitude of young men and saw two very long horns protruding

behind the shoulders of many. I got a little closer to get a better look. Turning around the back of the one closest to me, I saw clutching the noose an ugly, big cat-shaped beast with long horns and a hideous snout. It lowered its snout and hid between its paws, crouching as if to avoid being seen. I asked the young man and others for their names, but they would not answer. I questioned the ugly animal, and it hid even more. So, I said to a young man:

“Look, go to the sacristy and tell its director, Fr. Merlone, to give you the holy water pail!”'

All Catholics would like to know that their deceased loved ones actually made it to heaven, but would you be willing to have them actually appear to you? To have their soul return to tell you whether they are in Heaven… or Hell?

I would’ve said yes, before I heard this hair-raising story....

"At the stroke of midnight, I heard at the bottom of the hall a gloomy noise that became louder and more somber as it approached. It sounded like a cart pulled by many horses or a railroad train, almost like a canon firing. I could not describe it except that it formed a complex of such vibrating and violent rumblings to cause great fright and render everyone speechless.

As the noise approached the dormitory door, it rattled walls and the corridor floor as if they were iron plates shaken by a most potent arm. One could not measure the dwindling distance between it and us. It was like a steam engine leaving, and it was sometimes impossible to know where it is in its course amid the smoke it spread through the air."

You may already be familiar with Saint John Bosco, a 19th century priest who ran an oratory for boys in Turin, but did you know anti-catholic sects made many attempts on his life?

Watch the video of the episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjUJgIDS7Tk

This video will tell two stories of assassination attempts made on one of the finest men that ever lived.

But why would this happen? Why were the masons so intent on murdering Don Bosco? Why did they hate him so much?

These questions are what this entire YouTube channel seeks to answer. Saint John Bosco was a jewel in our history, a model of piety and a ferocious warrior against the enemies of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. We’ll attempt to analyze all the facets of his pious life.

Prophet, diplomat, miracle worker, counselor, visionary, devotee of Our Lady, prolific writer, role model for wayward boys, founder of the Salesians, priest, rock of scandal, warrior against heresies…

I could go on and on, but it all can be summed up by the phrase “Christianus alter Christus” -- he was Christ-like. He’s the patron saint of apprentices, editors, publishers, schoolchildren, magicians, and wayward children.

An attempt was made by the Salesians to document his daring deeds for Christ, which resulted in 19 large volumes and are the primary source material for our channel.

He’s a veritable font of interesting anecdotes and inspiring stories, so please subscribe so that you won’t miss any of our videos.

The more we learn of and admire the saintly aspects of Don Bosco the more we’ll be like him in our own lives.
