Snark Marks, A Retrospective Wrestling Podcast: Recent Episodes

Snark Marks Podcast

Pro wrestling's greatest stories from the mouth of a bona fide expert to the ears of a relative newcomer. It's very funny.

The boys went and saw Green Day and The Smashing Pumpkins in San Francisco, so they open up the show recapping the trip. Also Andrew signed up for a dating app made for Disney adults (with the support of his girlfriend) and we play a round of Batman or Shakespeare!

View Details

Metallica is doing a weird "we aren't going to play all of our good songs every night" gimmick, so we create a definitive list of songs they should be legally required to play. We also discuss an exhausting couple who got kicked out of Disneyland's exhausting Club 33.

Dusty had a couple of incidents this week. Some stoners parked too close to his car and his neighbor attacked his fence with bricks. We also discuss the ebola virus for some reason, and go in-depth on the nine-month epic Ultimate World Cruise. Subscribe!

View Details

Dusty got a surprise at West Coast Sourdough, and he also received his late birthday gift from Andrew. We also discuss which NFL mascots would win in a fight, and much more!

The new Crow movie stinks. In other less obvious news, Oasis is back together and Capri Sun may be releasing their odd liquid in bottle form, to the disappointment of God.

View Details

In this episode, we go through The Rock's filmography. Are his movies good? Is he good? Boy, has he made a lot of money... Also, Oreo needs to stop, Eminem needs to be poor, and much more!

View Details

Dusty made a new Spotify playlist of working man songs, and we discuss the list while suggesting additions. Also, the new Borderlands movie stinks, as does nearly every other movie that was adapted from a video game.

View Details

To round out our comedy movie bracket, we have a heavy hitter. Tropic Thunder rattled some cages, but it was a groundbreaking comedy with a truly unique story. Does it hold up? Also, Dusty watched the Olympics and had a groundbreaking idea with a truly unique story. Can Ernest save the Olympics? We discuss! HIT THE LIKE BUTTON!

View Details

For years, Andrew and Dusty have held up The 40-Year-Old Virgin as perhaps one of the funniest comedies ever made. Was it though? The boys give it a new watch with the moderate amount of maturity that they have built since 2005, and bring in our friend Kai Connolly to discuss the movie as well as how comedy films have evolved through the years.

View Details

For our third installment of our search for our favorite comedy movie, we have a heavy hitter. Is Dumb And Dumber the funniest movie of all time? It even made poop funny for once! Join us as we dig in.

View Details

We had to take a break from our comedy movie reviews because apparently everyone else has lives. This is a normal show in which we discuss Deadpool and Wolverine, Ingrid Andress' National Anthem, working in customer service and more!

View Details

We recorded a podcast about Joe Dirt that Technology Gods sabotaged, so it made us re-think our forth movie that would accompany The 40 Year Old Virgin, Tropic Thunder, and Dumb and Dumber. We decided it wouldn't be right if we did not include a true classic comedy that set the stage for all that came after it. In 1975, six silly brits came together and created a movie that belongs at the base of the comedy pyramid. Join us as we review MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL or we will taunt you a second time!

Jackass 2 is a time capsule to the early-to-mid 2000s, when a generation of teenagers were experiencing anarchy through skate culture, and everybody had a handheld camera. Jackass provided us with the right guys in the right place at the right time, and their influence is still felt in YouTube/TikTok culture today, for better or for worse. While it's not a comedy movie in the same ways that Dumb and Dumber or Super Troopers are, to millions of millennials, Jackass 2 might be the funniest movie of all time.

View Details

The Snark Marks are doing a comedy movie bracket and they are being joined by some of their friends! In this episode, Jacob Cotner and Dusty Strickland of the now-dead Refund Theater Podcast join us to choose the fourth movie in our bracket, with the first three being Tropic Thunder, Dumb and Dumber, and The 40 Year Old Virgin. This may not be a list of the best comedies of all time (though Dumb and Dumber might be the GOAT), but it certainly is a list of four movies that make us laugh really hard. Let us know what you would have picked!

View Details

Over the next month, we will be watching and debating the best comedy movies ever made. In this episode, we introduced the first three movies in the bracket and decided on a way to determine the fourth. Also discussed: Yard work, bad Italian sodas, and chicken nuggets.

View Details

Andrew is sick and Riverside.fm sucks, so our episode is out a day late. In this episode, we discuss the comedic talents of Ron White, Dusty spoils and Trashes The Strangers Chapter 1, and Andrew discusses what he's done for 5 days on the couch.

View Details

Dusty's sleep is improving, and he ate a donut this week. The boys discuss the death of the movie theater industry, artificial intelligence, and much more!

View Details

In this episode, we discuss the Emo's Not Dead cruise, and do a quick bracket of "Emo" (pop/pop punk/whatever you want to call it) songs. We also compare movies that released in our birth years and Dusty's cat makes him unplug his microphone.

View Details

After spending most of our non-wrestling podcast time discussing fast food, we decided to put our tastes to the test and have our first ever auction draft. Surprise, surprise, one of us may have been a bit too focused on saving some money. Also discussed is Kanye West getting sued by the estate of Donna Summer, Ric Flair making an ass of himself at a pizza place, and much more!

View Details

Rick Rude was pure entertainment. The Snark Marks love nothing more than the idea of a wrestler coming out and calling the entire arena of fans fat, ugly sweat hogs before his match. He sold as good as anybody, he succeeded in every organization he joined, and his life was cut tragically short likely due to his involvement in the business. Join us as we celebrate the sexiest man on god's green Earth.

View Details

This is a very Dusty-centric episode, which I think we all prefer. We discuss our favorite Mexican foods, Dusty admits a very stupid thing he did this week, gives us a breathing update, and also breaks down his trip to see Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in theaters!

View Details

In this episode, Dusty reveals a delightful surprise. Also, Taylor Swift put out a new album and the boys share their thoughts.

With Wrestlemania approaching, we are back to our roots with a good old fashioned wrestling episode. In this episode, we tell the story of one of the greatest feuds in history. The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin was special for a lot of reasons, not the least of which was the fact that it wasn't the top star vs the second-top star; this was 1 vs 1. The two men, who carried one of wrestling's hottest eras, obviously wrestled many other people, but it always inevitably worked its way back to The Rock vs Stone Cold.

Full disclosure- this is the second podcast we recorded this week. The first one was lost to history as Dusty's side did not record, through no fault of this own. In this episode, we discuss Dune 2, our winners of the pop punk bracket challenge, we preview Wrestlemania 40's main events, and we decide whether or not we can beat up a sphynx.

I wanted to call this episode "Goooooooooaaaaaaals!" like a soccer annoucer but I figured you wouldn't wanna click on a soccer episode. Last year, we each set goals with the idea being bettering ourselves with accountability. Did we reach these goals? Did Dusty listen to 25 audiobooks? Did Andrew reach 147 lbs? No and no, but boy, did we try.

The boys celebrate Christmas. There's a gift exchange, we discuss the best Christmas movies and songs, and yes, the toddys are hot.

The story of the Von Erich family is in the public eye with the release of the movie The Iron Claw. Welcome to Bummer City!

Dusty came up with a great idea for the Halloween season in which we rank villains from classic horror movies. Can we beat them in a fight? Would Jigsaw make a good roommate? Would Leatherface kill a kitten? That starts at 1:10:00 because we have a lot to get to. First, Dusty can taste again and Andrew asks if he can finish 15 Mitch Hedberg jokes after hearing the setups. It's fun! It's spooky! It's... snarky? I guess? Do you guys read these things? You should, because they frequently have time stamps. Not always, though... but FREQUENTLY!

Jacob joins us again and immediately regales us with the stories of him getting cancer, getting bit by a copperhead snake, currently having hemorrhoids and more! Andrew saw The Eras Tour in theaters and Blink 182 released a new album so we also had to touch on that. Around 30:30 into the show, we get to the main event where we compare and contrast the 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with the try hard 2003 stinker of the same name. Dusty doesn't have AIDS! After we get over that hurdle, we discuss the Impractical Jokers cruise before detailing what we would do with our own cruises. Dusty has a new hilarious tale of woe, and any opportunity to laugh at Dusty's expense is an opportunity we are gonna take. Someone rerouted a Delta flight to Barcelona by pooping everywhere, and the Dave Matthews Band bus did the funniest thing ever 20 years ago.

That and MORE! Thank you for listening and tell your dumb, unfunny friends about how smart and funny our podcast is thanks.

On this week's episode, we learn that Andrew is going to see Jimmy Eat World without Dusty for Dusty's birthday, we talk about Bugles, defend Nickelback and play the Spotify game before Andrew tells the wacky story of Charles Guiteau, the hilarious lunatic who killed President James A. Garfield!

View Details

Dusty's birthday is on the 19th, so of course we gotta do a throwback wrestling episode. WCW's Bash at the Beach 2000 was an awful PPV that, for reasons we will get into, will be forever etched in wrestling history. Let's just say Hulk Hogan Hulk Hogan'd and Vince Russo Vince Russo'd.

First, we talk about the upcoming Martin Scorcese movie starring Leo Decaprio and Bobby DeNiro, Varsity Blues, and we guess the top 5 Spotify songs of The Who and Limp Bizkit.

Tell your friends, for the love of God.

One of the first things that brought your hosts together is the love of comedy. Good comedy is as good as it gets, bad comedy is torture. Where does our podcast fall in that diagram? If you disagree with us, DM us on Instagram and I'll send you Dusty's address.

It's another theme-free episode. Had we reviewed one more movie, legally we would have had to become a movie podcast. First, we discuss yet another Hollywood Daughter Sequel in the works and Dusty is a clumsy boy.

100 episodes. You're welcome. Such a milestone must be celebrated by putting an end to a years-long debate: Is the movie FACE/OFF any good? Dusty thinks it is awesome, Andrew thinks it is embarrassing for Dusty to have such an opinion. We talk about it.

First, we discuss the fact that we are both in the process of moving and moving sucks worse than any movie other than Battlefield Earth.

A sincere "Thank you" to anyone who has listened in during our first 100. Recording Snark Marks is a lot of fun, and we are always trying to improve. Please let us know what you think and follow us on your favorite podcast app!

Since Andrew made Jacob and Dusty watch Twister, it was only right the boys reconvened to watch a movie that everyone would enjoy. Somehow this thing is 2 hours and 24 minutes long, but that doesn't ruin the experience entirely.

First, we discuss movie etiquitte and come to a conclusion as to who is the most influential pop punk band of all time.

00:00 - 22:44 Movie Ettiquite, Blink vs Green Day

22:44 - 2:29:51 Independence Day!

Dusty won the bracket challenge, so he got to choose this week's episode. In true Dusty fashion, he settled on some good old-fashioned WCW trash. Halloween Havoc 1998 could have been a much better card without the filler (looking at you, Wrath vs Meng), as it featured career nights for two of Andrew's favorites, Disco Inferno and Rick Steiner. Unfortunately it also includes a match between Hollywood Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. And Sting has a goatee for some reason and it really stinks.

First, we discuss mediocre Subway sandwiches and Andrew got tickets to see Blink 182!

21:09 - 2:24:08 WCW Halloween Havoc 1998

The Simpsons is responsible for any good in either of our lives. That is barely hyperbole. The first 12 or so seasons is not only what we consider the best television ever created, it was also the base of what we find funny. In this episode, we discuss our personal favorite episodes in depth and build a list of the definitive Simpsons bangers from the first 10 seasons.

First, Andrew's illegal stream of UFC 286 died during the last round of a title fight, he refused to order a pizza at Little Caesars because it has a stupid name, and Dusty learned what horsepower means!

We're tired. Wrestlemania 39 was a dream come true, and we had to get together to discuss it. Dusty paid 83 dollars for parking, we saw a van burn to a crisp, and Andrew thinks anybody who brings a title belt to a wrestling show should have to defend that belt. We are back to our normal schedule on Sunday, with an episode in which we select our top 15 The Simpsons banger episodes from the first 10 seasons.

First, we babble about fast food some more.

Wrestlemania 39 is this weekend, and somehow the Snark Marks have tickets to both nights. We go down the card and give our thoughts (Andrew hasn't watched any of the TV), and we plan our bathroom breaks (there are two 4-way tag matches.)

First, we discuss Andrew spending 40 minutes in the Del Taco drive through and the fact that Panera Bread is terrible.

00:00 - 13:06 Del Taco Fiasco, Panera Bread is offensive

Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler carved their legacies completely separate from each other. Lawler, being older, came to fame much earlier and was the top talent in Jerry Jarrett's Memphis territory, one of the most storied wrestling territories in history. Bret got his start in his home of Canada before making his way to the WWF and becoming one of the most iconic performers they've ever had. Their contrasting personalities and storytelling abilities led to one of the more memorable feuds of the last 30 years.

First, Dusty tells us about dropping a bunch of DVDs in the rain (hilarious) and the boys break down their totally uninformed NCAA brackets.

00:00 - 24:39 Clumsy Dusty, March Madness

24:39 - 1:51:16 Bret Hart vs Jerry Lawler

Concluding our "People vs Aliens" series, the boys absolutely had to watch PREDATOR. This is the first alien in our series that was just purely a jerk at heart, what with the hunting men for sport and all. Andrew takes every opportunity to do his Jesse Ventura impression, which the person writing this caption believes to be very good.

First, Dusty had two short and stupid video clips to show Andrew and document his reaction.

00:00 - 11:53 The boys watch stupid videos

11:53 - 1:22:32 PREDATOR!

GET TO THE CHactually I'm not gonna say it.

For part 2 of our Humans vs Aliens movie run, we watched THE THING. It's got Kurt Russell, which is worth multiple stars in itself. It also scores pretty highly on the goo scale, but it makes up for it with a guy having a stomach mouth and an alien spider with an upside-down human head for a body. Norwegians might not like this movie, but apparently they are too stupid to work a computer anyway.

First, Dusty saw the new Ant Man movie and is looking forward to COCAINE BEAR.

We know. It's not "cool" to like Green Day. You're supposed to have pins and patches on your vest celebrating bands that aren't successful. They sold out by making music so good that everybody liked them.

Now that that's out of the way, Dusty and Andrew think Green Day is a great band and they got together to discuss their history with the band and put together a list of 14 absolute true blue B A N G E R S.

In our first revisit into the world of professional wrestling of the year, Dusty finally gets his chance to try to convince Andrew that Big Van Vader was awesome. In the past, we have frequently encountered an older, fatter version of the Mastodon, so Dusty dug up some of his best work in the USto try to educate his ignorant turd of a friend.

First, we discuss Dusty's football team losing and our parents' disciplinary tactics.

The boys get together to answer an age-old question: if you were stranded on a deserted island, what would you bring? In this thought experiment, all real necessities are taken care of, because how boring would it be to say "a bunch of food?" We each get 10 pop culture items and 5 personal items. What would you bring?

First, we talk about Dusty seeing The Whale with Brendan Fraser, and Andrew infuriates Dusty by revealing that he was gifted a free annual movie pass.

Make sure to follow our podcast if you agree that we are very funny.

Long before Dana White and his rich friends bought the UFC, and even longer before Dana White was filmed slapping his wife and didn't get any punishment for it, Art Davie and Rorion Gracie had an idea. Eight fighters from different disciplines, coming together like gladiators to finally determine which martial art was the most effective. Most people didn't have any idea who would win, but most people hadn't encountered Gracie Jiu Jitsu. The first UFC was an unorganized, awkward showcase for an idea that would change combat sports forever.

First we talk about animals that could end us and Jay Leno's face catching fire.

The Snark Marks have decided to rebrand. No, we will not stop doing wrestling shows, we will just also be regularly doing non-wrestling shows. This podcast started because Dusty and Andrew love talking to each other, and we thought we could have even more fun on our podcast if we allowed ourselves to talk about more of the topics that we enjoy. So now, instead of a wrestling retrospective podcast, we consider ourselves simply a retrospective podcast. Expect shows on MMA, movies, comedians, professional wrestling and all kinds of other nonsense we find fascinating. We love this show and we are excited to broaden our horizons in 2023!

After over 50 episodes in 2022, we got together to give out awards to the best, worst, and most memorable moments and people in wrestling that we have covered this year. Was it really the year of Flair? What was the worst tag team? (Spoiler alert: it was K-K-K-Kronik).

Thank you to everyone who listened to us at all this year. Stay tuned next week for a big Snark Marks announcement!

Vince Russo came up with some doozies during his time on wrestling creative teams (shout out to the Bat Man), but perhaps his worst idea was when he suggested that the product should be real. A group of professional wrestlers, nearly all of whom have no real organized fighting training or experience, were going to actually fight on a show filled with works and fakery. Ultimately, bunch of flailing, exhausted, injured sports entertainers stunk up the ring to no ultimate benefit for anybody carrying out perhaps mainstream wrestling's worst idea in history.

There really has never been anybody like Andy Kaufman. From bombing on purpose in front of packed comedy clubs to touring as his lounge singer alter ego, Kaufman's style of entertainment is only called "comedy" because we don't have a word for it. He was a massive admirer of professional wrestling, and his dedication to kayfabe in every venture made him a natural when he decided to become the Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World. This led to one of the greatest feuds in the history of wrestling when Andy went to Memphis to take on Jerry "The King" Lawler.

1989 was a tumultuous year for the NWA. With Dusty Rhodes leaving as WCW booker, a power vacuum was created that eventually led to a booking-by-committee situation. This could have led to a bad year product-wise, but at least at the big shows, the talent on the roster and the quality of their work produced a fantastic year for wrestling. For some reason, they decided to end the year with two non-title round robin tournaments. Was it a good idea? No! Was there some fun to be had? Kind of, I guess! We got to see some more great Ric Flair work, at least. Join us as we say goodbye to 1989 in our season 5 finale!

Being that the score was not settled at Halloween Havoc (Settling the Score), Ric Flair and Terry Funk decided to, once and for all, settle the score. This time, they will face off in an "I Quit" match. Also, Jim Cornette seems to be paying a lot of attention to his new tag team The Dynamic Dudes, and the Midnight Express is not exactly jazzed about it. This PPV was short, fun, and ultimately score settling.

1989 was the year of Ric Flair. After three five star matches with Ricky Steamboat, Flair moved on to perhaps his kindred spirit: Terry Funk. There is no way this feud will be anything other than classic, with two of the best performers in the history of wrestling facing off for the most prestigious title in the world. This PPV is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, with intrigue from top to bottom (plus they actually let Rick Steiner win a match while only getting a tiny bit of doodoo on his face!)

WrestleWar 1989 answered the age-old question "can you have too much of a good thing?" Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat faced off for their third consecutive five-star match, but the matchup is beginning to feel stale. In fairness, it doesn't help that we watched them in consecutive weeks rather than waiting months like wrestling fans did. It was, however, the best part of a mostly flaccid wrestling program. Michael Hayes does some classic PS stuff and we get a Bam Bam Gordy appearance, and we also get introduced to the Dynamic Dudes, but neither of those two things are worth watching Sting try to have a wrestling match with the immobile object and Twitter superstar Iron Sheik. Wrestlewar '89 was the worst PPV we have watched thus far in this season, but at least Hulk Hogan never showed up.

In the intro, the Snark Marks get heated because Dusty pledged his fealty to the Western Bacon Cheeseburger over In N Out burger. For those worried, he is properly taken to task.

In our second installment from our NWA/WCW 1989 series, we go down to the bayou for Clash of the Champions 6. After Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat's epic 5-star battle at Chi-Town Rumble, Flair gets his rematch in a two out of three falls match. There are only 4 matches on Peacock's version of this event, and aside from the opener which featured the Midnight Express facing off against the Samoan Swat Team (featuring Fatu before he was Fat), there isn't much else to write home about. Oh, except the fact that The Great Muta was a bad mutafuc...

Dusty has long wanted to introduce Andrew to the NWA's 1989 offerings, and we are finally taking the plunge. Things were in a transitional (and sometimes tumultuous) phase following a few changes to WCW including the firing of Dusty Rhodes as booker, but they still had Flair, and they still offered a brand of wrestling that appealed to the classic fan: the characters were believable, the wrestling was believable, and Rick Steiner was in the building. In this episode, we discuss the Chi-Town Rumble from February 1989, which featured a lot of fun and was anchored by a 5-star classic turned in by Flair and Steamboat for the NWA title.

Full disclosure: I (Andrew) write these descriptions. As much as I would like to make this entire description about the fact that I met worldwide entertainment icon Ice Cube, I understand that's unrealistic. The more important thing about this episode is that we watched Summerslam 1991. Randy Savage and Elizabeth tied the knot in the ring, and Jake The Snake and the Undertaker did the honors of turning the wedding into a wrestling wedding, causing chaos at the reception. Also on this show is a classic between Mr. Perfect and Bret Hart, and the Match Made In Hell, with Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior taking on Sargent Slaughter, General Adnan, and Colonel Mustafa. That match was boring as all get out.

On episode 58, we first ventured into the world of Roddy Piper acting when Andrew's brother Jacob joined us as we discussed They Live. During that episode, we discovered that Piper was in another movie during that time in his life, and this one might be a bit wacky. Hell Comes to Frogtown is the story of Sam Hell, who, after a devastating nuclear war, is tasked with repopulating the earth with humans during their war against frog/human mutant hybrids. It's sexier than it sounds.

First, we discuss the Jurassic Park franchise and Kevin Smith's entire career because we don't get Jacob very often and he's the only one capable of scratching Dusty's cinema itch. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Clerks 3 is discussed but spoilers were mostly avoided because Andrew hasn't seen it yet.

It's been a while since the boys visited some good old fashioned WCW trash. This week, Dusty stumbled upon an article from sportster.com that listed Uncensored 1995 as WCW's worst PPV ever. Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes were classic wrestling adversaries. The son of a plumber who fought for the common man was always going to clash with the arrogant, self-centered rich man whose shoes cost more than your house. Dusty and Andrew watched 3 classic Rhodes-Flair matches (including Starrcades 1984 and 1985) and a bunch of promos in preparation for getting together and talking about this historic rivalry.

The Rhodes-Flair talk is a later in the episode. We talk about Andrew helping to find a lost cat (beginning to 12:49), the current state of AEW (12:49-43:45), and then we get into the main topic at hand.

Dusty Rhodes may have been the perfect professional wrestler. He was a guy who the crowd could easily imagine standing next to them in the audience, but who could also make them believe in magic and the power of a dream. Classic Survivor Series PPVs were polarizing. On one hand, since there must be seven pin falls per match, the matches are sooooooo looooooong. On the other hand, when else are you going to see Bret Hart wrestling under the captaincy of Hacksaw Jim Duggan? Our journey through 1989 was short and sweet, and the Survivor Series was a great way to round it off. It's as if we were caught dabbling in the wacky personalities on the roster of the time, and the Survivor Series made us smoke the whole pack.

The Mega Powers exploded, as you know, but that does not mean they were finished with each other. Fresh off his starring role opposite Tiny Lister in No Holds Barred, WWF decided it was a good idea to bring in Lister's character to help the Macho Man try to take down the Hulkster. The Mega Powers have officially exploded and it's time to settle it in the ring. Hulk and Savage are eager to get their hands on each other with Miss Elizabeth in a neutral corner, but in true 1989 WWF fashion, we all have to wade through like 30 matches before we get to the issue at hand. Growing up, Dusty's love for wrestling wasn't the easiest to cultivate. He had to sustain himself with WWF home videos featuring house matches between wrestlers who he loved.. only they're unmotivated and mostly end in DQs. Whenever the ridiculousness of modern wrestling storylines is discussed, inevitably the Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero feud for the custody of Rey's son Dominik is cited. While the stipulation of the blow off match was ridiculous, this angle featured some fantastic work by two of the most legendary figures in WWE history. This feud happened a few months before Eddie's death and includes some promos and segments that remind us why losing him was such a blow to the industry.

Plus, THEY HAD A LADDER MATCH FOR THE CUSTODY OF A CHILD. THE KID WAS SITTING RINGSIDE WITH A SOCIAL WORKER WHO WOULD GRANT CUSTODY TO THE WINNER OF THE LADDER MATCH. That is so sick, to be honest.

ECW captured the hearts and minds of thousands of degenerates in the short time that it existed. There was fire, chanting, concussions, cheese graters, and Eric Bischofff laying motionless in the center of the ring. After Vince bought WCW and performed his epic victory lap, things didn't go as planned for him. In real life, many of WCW's top stars did not come over to wresstle for him. In the storyline, his two spoiled brat children bought WCW and ECW out from under him, and are staging an invasion that threatens to make his victory in the wrestling wars of the 1990s hilariously short lived. In this episode, our hosts cover the InVasion PPV, which was a showcase in the discrepancy of the star power between the WWF wrestlers and those who came over from WCW, and it ended with one of our heroes turning our back on us in a manner that was more confusing than devastating.

In 2001, Vince McMahon mercifully bought failing WCW, with many WCW talents hopping over to the Federation. This started an angle in which the newly-acquired talent were "invading" the hottest wrestling product in history. In part 1, we review the last WCW Monday Nitro ever. Ric Flair opens the show like a maniac, there are a few decent matches, and Vince takes an epic victory lap throughout. How do you beat a billionaire? You become one yourself. Also, I've heard it helps to have Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Capping off our "The Best You Got" series, we discuss possibly the best wrestling PPV ever assembled. The granddaddy of the granddaddies of them all. Wrestlemania 17 was a showcase of one of the best rosters in the history of professional wrestling, and represented a moment when that roster got even stronger following WWF's acquisition of WCW. An insane TLC match and a father-son slobberknocker lead in to the ultimate unstoppable force vs immovable object matchup: The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Our WCW entry for the "Best You Got" series takes us to Spring Stampede 1994. Chicago welcomed World Championship Wrestling with open aarms, and who wouldn't? DDP, Steven Regal Cactus Jack, and a not-yet-Stone-Cold Steve Austin accompany a Bunkhouse match (which is apparently just a no DQ match in street clothes) on the undercard and it all leads to a classic matchup in the main event as Ric Flair takes on Ricky Steamboat. Bischoff is there, but at least he doesn't make an appearance.

On Monday, Andrew was innocently browsing Twitter when he stumbled upon a sight that he could not believe: Logan Paul was beating up Rey Mysterio. It wasn't even difficult. The Youtube star turned boxing hobbyist was manhandling the man who won the 2006 Royal Rumble from the 2 slot. Aggrieved, Andrew took to Twitter and put out a poll. Which was worse: David Arquette pinning Eric Bischoff to win the WCW title or Logan Paul easily beating up Rey Mysterio on Raw? The thread took Twitter by storm, and to everyone's astonishment it ended in a 50/50 tie, with Dusty being one of the people who believed Arquette's escapades to be worse. Heartbroken and questioning everything he knew aabouot the world, Andrew threw down the gauntlet, and slapped Dusty across the face with his white debating glove.

In true Snark Marks fashion, the boys talked about The Farrelly Brothers for 18 minutes before finally getting to the argument.

For our next quick series, we are watching Dusty's picks for each of the big three wrestling organizations' best PPVs. Extreme Championship Wrestling was an insane madhouse organization with a promotional maniac at the helm and a cult-like fanbase. At Heat Wave 1998, we saw some off their biggest stars put on a show that stands the test of time. RVD, Mike Awesome, and Taz beef up the undercard until... and yes, I have to say it... Enter Sandman.

Fritz Von Erich and World Class Champioship Wrestling changed the wrestling world from a small, hot, metal building in Dallas Texas in the mid-to-late 1900s. Determined to build a wrestling dynasty, Fritz raised a group of sons in the business, convinced that he was building a stable of world champions. In many ways, their story was a fairy tale, until it turned into a nightmare.

Relax, guys. We aren't reviewing the disaster that was the 2022 Royal Rumble... until next week.

This week, we decided to go back to the first Royal Rumble PPV in 1989. It has everything from Bret Hart's patented "get beat up brutally for like 10 minutes" spot to the beginning of the end for the Mega Powers. In the big match, 30 superstars enter the ring in an every man for himself match format that would become the main attraction for what is usually one of the WWE's must see yearly events. Joion us as we discuss the one that started it all.

The Idell Wrestling Federation and Godwin Championship Wrestling Federation have had a few months of weekly TV shows since we last visited them , and it's time to reveal their second PPV installments. There's a little bit of everything, from shark cages to Double J Jeff Jarrett, making both PPVs well worth their through-the-roof prices. Which one would you attend?

While this episode will be entertaining either way, it is a continuation of our Draft Spectacular episode from December 12, 2021. It would be best to listen to that episode before enjoying this one.

Over the past few decades, a handful of marquis pairs have defined tag team wrestling, and have set the standard to which all other teams are compared. In the 1990s, a mullet headed super athlete and his dog-faced brother brought real amateur wrestling credibility with them and became, at one point, the best tag team in the world. In this episode, the Snark Marks discuss the nuts and bolts of big matches across many phases in the Steiner Brothers' time together.

Shawn Michaels is polarizing figure. In his professional life, he was a pretty boy with an ego who was difficult to be in a room with sometimes. He liked to act as if the world revolved around him, and was comfortable derailing the plans of a gigantic entertainment empire as his mood and desires changed with the wind. He also just so happened to be one of the most charismatic, talented, and influential performers in modern wrestling history. How does he differ from Bret Hart? What was he best at? Did he ever find his smile? Join us as we discuss.

Professional wrestling runs through Bret Hart's veins. Born into a family of wrestlers, with a wrestling father and seven wrestling brothers, it's as genetic as his brown, wavy hair. With his classic, steady pacing and creative mind for match choreography, The Hitman made the most of a tempered personality and lack of extreme explosive athleticism to become one of the greatest talents in the history of wrestling. Dubbbed "The Excellence of Execution," Hart mastered technical wrestling and paired it with his inherent relatability and humble charisma to perhaps live up to his claim of being the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

Matches discussed in this episode-

Bret Hart vs Mr. Perfect, Summerslam 1991

Bret Hart vs Roddy Piper, Wrestlemania 8

Bret Hart vs Owen Hart, Wrestlemania 10

Bret Hart vs Owen Hart, Summerslam 1994

Bret Hart vs Diesel, Survivor Series 1995

Bret Hart vs Chris Benoit, WCW Monday Nitro 10-04-1999

We've spent the greater part of 2021 lambasting the decision makers for the biggest organizations in wrestling history, so we figured it was our turn to take the reigns. We begin the episode by having a draft of twenty wrestling figures each, with anybody who has appeared on any show that we reviewed being available. After the draft, we put on our motorcycle jackets and get in our wheelchairs to each book our dream PPVs with the wrestlers we chose. It's not exactly a competition, but neither is professional wrestling.

Our Worst of Vince Russo breakdown included promotions for a pro wrestling comedy made in 2000, so it's only fitting that we review it. We made it. We've endured well over 12 hours of the Russo/Bischoff WCW experiment, and in all honesty we are tired. Broken down. Befuddled. Disheartened and angry. Finally, though, we have arrived at the season finale. We debate whether David Arquette ruined wrestling, Eric Bischoff vs Vince Russo, and what Shawn Stasiak's name is. The show ends with Slamboree 2000, a genuine disease of a wrestling PPV. Just know we do this so you don't have to.

The best of Vince Russo involved him booking one of the most talented and charismatic rosters wrestling had ever seen. For the worst of Vince Russo, we examine a period starting the moment Russo and Bischoff join forces to take over WCW. They created an atmosphere and a wrestling show that is so bad only a slap nut could enjoy it. Our foray into the wild world of Russo booking leads us to the November 2 and 9, 1998 Monday Night Raws. Vince McMahon feels the power slipping from his hands and goes on a rampage in which nobody is safe and everybody's loyalty is in question. The boys open the show discussing exercise, Harry Houdini, supernatural skepticism, and the guy who killed President James Garfield (ends at about 17:20). It wasn't on purpose, but perhaps it was to avoid talking about THE BIGGEST PROMOTIONAL FUMBLE IN THE HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. Starrcade 1997 was supposed to be WCW's shining moment; the match up between Sting and Hollywood Hogan was a long time in the making, and was as big of a layup as wrestling pay-offs get. Will Hogan smash the stinger, or will he eat crow? The only bad way to answer those questions is "no" to both, and guess what Eric Bischoff did.

For our final foray into the world of WWF in 1997, we visit one of the most talked about moments in wrestling history. No, it's not the hard fought victory over the DOA for The Truth Commission. The show that's tagline was "Gang Rulz" (not kidding) included a moment which would change the way many view professional wrestling forever, and would usher in the wildest and most lucrative era in history. The Montreal Screwjob ended what was a mostly mediocre wrestling show, but it is required viewing for any fan of the artform.

That's gotta be Kane!

I led with that because it's essentially all that happens on this show. On a day where WWF learned of the tragic death of one of their stars, Brian Pillman, and the owner of the company started what was a disgraceful PR campaign with a minis match, WWF debuted a legendary character. On August 9, 1997, WCW held a PPV at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The show was 1997's nWo era in a nutshell- it was centered around Eric Bischoff's belief that motorcycles and middle aged men are inherently cool, the babyfaces were screwed, and the last five matches averaged 1 star from Dave Meltzer.

THIS PODCAST, however, is much more fun. It's not the corny motorcycle rally; it's more like the Dusty Rhodes in jean shorts and cowboy boots at the corny motorcycle rally. Timeless. Charismatic. Radiant.

Stipulations galore as the Hart Foundation takes on the world. Will Ken Shamrock eat dog food? Will Brian Pillman wrestle in a dress? Will "The Hitman" be banned from wrestling in the United States? No, yes, and of course not. The real story of this PPV is the future of Stone Cold Steve Austin being forever changed on account of his being too god dang low during an Owen Hart piledriver. The tension between WCW and the nWo has hit a boiling point, and Roddy Piper wants to join the dance. In the main event of Uncensored '97, we have a convoluted three-team tag match. If team WCW wins, the nWo have to give up their belts and cannot wrestle in WCW for three years. If team nWo wins, their members get to fight for any belt they want at any time. If team Piper wins, Hogan's gotta face Rowdy for his title in a steel cage.

Two of those seem like really bad, irrational outcomes so Piper must be getting that title shot, right? Well.... at at least you'll forget about all of it when a certain Stinger comes down from the rafters.
