Understanding how the education system works for parents with children in full time education is vital. Parents, send their child off to School with packed lunches, new sets of uniforms , school shoes etc and think thats enough. Parent need to know the right questions to ask the teachers about their childs learning journey. They need to know when to ask questions.They need to be part of the schooling process. Dont wait until parents evening or when you get a call there is a problem. Join myself educational practitioners, parents and students as we discuss.
Somehow, we are all happy to tag along with what the wider society prescribes as "successful". Both here in the UK and back home in the Continent( Africa & The Carribean). Especially us, ie people of African heritage. Is it time to te evaluate the legacy we leave behind? Is it time to teach our children the TRUE meaning of SUCCESS? Not what the media, the tabloid and most definitely not what 'Social Media' potrays as being Successful.
The' Dark Web' of the Internet can be an anonymous playground, largely untraceable, predatory, and full of questionable activities. Contents found here are unsuitable for the 'Clear Net' ( ie everyday internet use) and definitely NOT suitable for children. Yet, we ( parents) innocently hand over mobile phones, iPads or other gaming devices to our children to pacify them. Unbeknownst to many parents, we are potentially giving them access into this annonymous play ground of the *Dark Web' or Deep Web of the internet.
In the wake of the recent report by the Race and Ethnic Disparity Review Commission. One of the findings of this report to debunk institutionalised racism in Britain is that ethnic disparities can be attributed to lower socio economic factors and family, not the system. It also highlights the point that African Carribean Males fall behind in education when compared to African Male counterpart. Can this be correct?
We must closely look at events that happens around and in our lives. Every inch of what we pass through in our life is exactly as it should be. This includes the good, the bad and the ugly things we pass through. Its all about YOU.
A conversation around working better, reaching out and pulling each other up as Africans, and Carribeans in UK. We are not pulling together in our numbers. We are not standing together enough. We are not making our brothers and sisters experiences or problems OURS. We must learn to see each other as one ie people of the same AFRICAN heritage FIRST, before the tribe.

On this conversation, we discuss why there are huge gaps in the representation of ethnic minorities in UK education workforce. We tried to look at this from various angles. So, looking inwards at ourselves, ie some people from BAME group are strong , hardworking people, resilient and ambitious. Yet they are not making it to top decision making roles. Why ?
