To continue the month of Pride, today we explored perspectives from a queer and Asian Pacific Islander ("API") lens. In this episode we are joined by a extra special guest Keith Nishida, the Program Director of the NAAAP Pride National Program. Keith shared his insights and experiences as a queer + API man, resources on becoming a better ally, and the coming out process.
In celebration of Pride Month, we are kicked off with an episode on Queer + BIPOC Perspectives. We were joined by two special guests from the Gay Professional Men of Color, Nicholas Northington and Lawrence Laws.
A topic that is often taboo but poses as a reality to many of us in the BIPOC Community. There's privilege of skin colour even within our BIPOC communities and those who don't have the privilege encounter a detrimental experience. We explore the inequities within our BIPOC communities when it comes to colourism and how it is used against one.
The context differs in America but immigrants from different parts of the world identify themselves as coloured and when the cultures intersects, the hot topic of being PC arises. Is being PC more important or understanding context becomes important in a ever more diverse world we live in? Are we cancelling people's voices and identities with these terms? How do we create an equitable inclusive space? - These are some themes we will be exploring on this episode.
Women of colour undergo nuances of struggles in America. As they are constantly left out of imperative issues and constantly left in the peripheral of every conversation or action, it is time we acknowledge how we can become allies to amplify their voice.
