Welcome to the Slumber Party Pod, hosted by your two fav virgo risings, Lizzie and Hannah! This season we will be diving deep into Disney Channel original movies (dcoms, duh). Come hang with us each Tuesday for hot-takes, "film analysis", and lots of Y2K nostalgia. Beware: nothing will go unsaid...but are they even spoilers if The Luck of the Irish came out in 2001?

We're back, and just in time for our second pod-iversary 😈 To celebrate this milestone, we revisited the DCOM that started it all, Avalon High (2010). Diversions include the Barbie Cinematic Universe, fall-themed TikTok content, and literally just so much chatter about everything that has happened since May, we actually didn't even talk about the DCOM that much we're sorry

This week (technically a month ago LOL) Hannah's wish was Lizzie's command and, as a result, we are talking about Netflix's Wednesday -- even though it's not at all relevant in the zeitgeist anymore. Digressions include the fixtures of Lizzie's new house, Barbie-branded lemonade, and far too much discussion about Vermont.
P.S. We edited together 2 different conversations, so please ignore any references to a Wednesday follow up next week! We will not be doing that!!

This was supposed to come out the first week of May but, as we say literally in this episode, it has been a very busy month! This is just in time for your Memorial Day weekend car rides, because nothing says "remembering our fallen" like listening to your two local idiots talk about K-Pop, hockey romances, and The Addams family.
Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Happy Adaptation April! We had a great conversation about Louisa May Alcott's Little Women and sprinkled in a heavy dose of discourse about the 2019 Greta Gerwig adaptation as well. Digressions include us paying our respects to Buzzfeed (RIP) and why Lizzie can't swim.

Enemy of the pod, Sam, is back! We’re continuing on Adaptation April with our big discussion on adaptations of all form. Stage to screen, screen to stage, page to screen, etc. We can begrudgingly admit that having Sam on is always a delight, especially when discussing one of his points of expertise. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/slumberpartypod/message
Hold on tight spider monkey! We're diving into a spooky Mormon hell dream and discussing the famous film adaptation, Twilight (2008). Friend of the pod, listener, and Twilight expert Ally (and her cat) joins us for the convo and we think she should take over, tbh. Digressions include international flags in high school cafeterias, our favorite dcoms (somehow we always bring this up???), and the Mormonism of it all.

This week we finished watching Season One of Netflix's Outer Banks, and to say it was ~crazy~ would be an understatement. Like, why are we running from the coast guard? Why is Rafe selling cocaine? Why do the characters have to be 16 years old? idk...see you in the Bahamas ig

Voi-effing-la, we're finally talking about TV! This month we're watching the Netflix fan-favorite Outer Banks, in honor of the show's third season release (and in honor of Lizzie's coworkers bullying her for not watching it.) This episode covers the first 5 episodes of OBX Season One, in all its sun-soaked, hurricane-soaked, and PBR-soaked glory.

It's time for some involuntary self-reflection, and the end of Fangirl February! We had such a blast making our fan-related content this month and we hope you enjoyed it as much as us. This month we read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and it sent both of us on quite the trip down memory lane. Tune in to hear what song 14-year old Lizzie associated with this book, what made us swoon, what made us sigh, and what hit a little too close to home.

"ding ding ding crush alert!"
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! In honor of the day of love, Hannah and Lizzie take a trip down memory lane (or just to Lizzie's notes app) and discuss their celebrity crushes past and present. We'd recommend listening to this one with a delicious beverage, a box of chocolates, and Google at the ready so you too can swoon about our crushes. Or, at the very least, be happy for us. Let us know who your celebrity crushes are, and enjoy this episode!
Remember that the Fangirl February book fo the month is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and we'll be posting our Book Club episode on February 23rd.

Welcome back to the movies!
Would you spend your life savings to go to a foreign country and roleplay your literary fantasies with comedy queen Jennifer Coolidge for an undetermined amount of time and (hopefully) find love? Lizzie and Hannah debate this in a discussion of Austenland (2013). Digressions include Hannah's utmost apologies issued to her mom, Lizzie's favorite band from New Zealand, and a short serenade if you stay until the end.

The Sumber Party Pod presents Fangirl February!
This is a very ramble-y episode to begin our first themed month...Lizzie and Hannah dive into their past (and present) experiences as professional fangirls, as well as surveying many of our close friends and listeners to learn more about this ubiquitous phenomenon. Diversions (and there are tons) include: One Direction is bigger than The Beatles, the ethics of child stardom, and how Hannah accidentally went method and became a K-Pop stan (stream Ay-Yo by NCT 127 for clear skin).
Stay tuned for 3 more episodes about fangirls and how they hold the world on their shoulders :)

Happy Halloween Slumber Party people! We hope you have thoroughly enjoyed Spooky Season as much as we have. As we head into the last leg of 2022 (crazy) we are on track to hit some amazing milestones before the end of the year. Twitches Too (2007) rounds out our October/Halloween films of the year and we had...some feelings. Not many. But some. So thank goodness we do consume content unrelated to DCOMs, because this dcom was not good, we fear...In fact, it was so not good that we forgot to give it a ranking while recording, but we did agree that we collectively give it a 2/5. It's giving Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge (IYKYK).
xoxo and Happy Halloween!

Happy Spooky Season!!! This year we are kicking off the festivities with Invisible Sister (2015), starring Rowan Blanchard, Paris Berelc, and Karan Brar. It was very cute and we enjoyed it a lot! Full disclosure, there were approximately six tangents/digressions that had to be edited out for this episode to be less than an hour long because we looooove to talk shit.

For your bonus episode of the week we watched Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010)! What was going to be a quick mini-sode ended up being a full length beast of an ep, but thats okay because we finally got the Electric Boogaloo of a sequel that we deserve. Listen to us discuss why this movie is superior ro the original (despite the occasional cringe) and why, okay, it does make sense that we were all Nick girlies in the early 2000s. Digressions include hot girls and their stomach problems (again), Steve Harrington, and Maggie's awkward(?) dancing that is (maybe) a result of watching this movie in her formative years.

Read It and Weep (2006) walked so Anna Todd's magnum opus After could run.
This week we were joined by an extra special guest and our friend from college, Hannah Labovitz! We talked all things Read It and Weep, including the Panabaker sisters and some of our favorite Virgo actresses (happy Libra season, btw). Digressions include zoology, the origins of New Hampshire, and fanfiction-related conspiracy theories.
Also, the three of us miss and love each other and haven't all been together in WAY more than a year, so we just had fun catching up. It's like a real life Slumber Party.

We had hoped to bring you a Teen Beach 2, Electric Boogaloo this week, but sadly that is one of the nicest things the girlies had to say about this dcom. Pros of the movie include almost everything about Ross Lynch, and cons include almost everything else. Digressions include Julie and the Phantoms, "Fergalicious", and heinous baby names.

This week we are checking off our very first SPORTS MOVIE!! Featuring the iconic Corbin Bleu and Keke Palmer, Jump In! has cemented itself in the Slumber Party Pod's favorite DCOMs so far. Check below for extended show notes and links to references from this episode: Doodlebug Studio (run by Hannah's Aunt) has made us some adorable SPP buttons! Paul Hoen (director of Jump In!) is our second fav DCOM director after Kenny Ortega. He's done EVERYTHING. Lil Nas X won Halloween and dressed up as Billy from Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and we still can't get over it. The infamous Keke Palmer Vanity Fair video. We're sorry to that man. Do you also hate movies where the dog dies? There's a website for that. Why do people love boxing movies so much? Check out this article from 2018 that explains it a little better. The Bleacher Report did a story in 2016 on sports movie tropes that people love and why we love them (read: Lizzie's love of a training montage.) Something we didn't talk about- Corbin Bleu's dad PLAYS HIS DAD IN THIS MOVIE! Last Saturday was the IRL Double Dutch Holiday Classic at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Izzy and Mary are adorable and we love them, but why do we love the enemies-to-lovers trope? Corbin Blue was actually 17 when this was filmed (whoops) and he was also Keke Palmer's first kiss. ...and then he went on to do Lin Manuel Miranda's In the Heights on Broadway alongside Jordin Sparks! Hopefully if you watch this Pass the Plate short you'll be able to do a better French accent than Hannah... it would not be difficult. Drew Seeley DID voice Troy Bolton in HSM because Zac Efron's voice was too deep and they needed a tenor.

It's an oldie but a goodie, this week we're tackling the 1999 classic "Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century"! This episode is long and silly and surprisingly thoughtful at times, and we had an absolute blast and a half recording it. Highlights include: fewer coughs than normal because Hannah threatened Lizzie's life if she didn't try to edit them out, some excellent one liners from our guest, Sam, and a serious discussion about intergalactic boybands. This week Lizzie and Hannah welcome our first Pod-Friend, Amber, to talk about the star-studded 2009 film Dadnapped! (This is the only similarity between Dadnapped and Avengers: Endgame other than both being owned by Mickey the Mouse.) This movie is filled to the brim with iconic DCOM actors from our childhoods, like Hannah Montana's Emily Osment and David Henrie from Wizards of Waverly Place. In this week's episode we talk about YA novels from our youth, whether or not dentist jokes are funny, and also speculate as to what our second season might contain. For those of you who were not avid watchers of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, 1) why not? and 2) you can click here to see the Floss! the Musical scene we reference multiple times. Hannah gets bamboozled, hoodwinked, and led astray (in that order), Aggie gets a brand new bag (and a brand new boo), Lizzie can't stop compairing every brunette man to D*an from Gilmore Girls (derogatorily), and we wrap it up by discussing YOUR favorite fall vegetables and our favorite Spiderman, Tom Holland. Au revoir, Auradon! Lizzie and Hannah have completed the Descendants series (as it stands so far) and ooooh boy has it been a fun time. This episode is brought to you by complete and utter exhaustion, infinite pirate love, and a lot of conversations about media that isn't Descendants related (whoops.)

Content Warning: sexual tension, pirates, and Lizzie and Hannah curse twice. Was this movie worth waking up Lizzie's 11 year old sister at 8:15 am on a Saturday? Do Lizzie and Hannah drastically underestimate the amount they have to say about this movie? Guess you should probably listen and find out, huh?

Grab a snack, grab a drink- this episode's long, folks. Lizzie and Hannah had a LOT to say about this week's movie (our first musical AND our first part of a series)! Stick around to find out what parts made our hearts sing, what songs got stuck in our head for hours afterwards, and what wigs made us want to hit the fast forward button. Do your hosts actually love this movie, or are they just caught under a Kenny Ortega love spell?

Is she ~that girl~ or is she just a New York fashion influencer in 2021? Hannah and Lizzie tackle the topics of embezzlement, murder, and other Y2K trends this week on Deep Dives into DCOMs. Join us as we go with Lindsay Lohan and Brenda Song to another planet, or maybe just schlep over to Brooklyn. (Let it be known that Lizzie edited out a 4 minute roast of her love life and taste in men, and also appx. 20000 times we said the word "like.")

Avalon High, everyone. Runners can't be trusted. Quarterbacks aren't always the hero. Lizzie is a bigger nerd than anticipated. Let's do this thing.
