Have you ever thought about the amount of benefits we received from our sport? It was our outlet, our form of exercise, our form of community, our passion, our identity. We often don't think about all that it provided for us until it's gone. In today's episode, Whitney Miller is here to chat all about how this hit her hard and how she leaned into running as a new "sport". However, she used this as a place to nearly demoralize herself. A place to constantly put pressure on herself to be better and was never enough. She is the Founder of Transcend Health And Wellness and now helps others as they go through big transitions and want to achieve big goals.

Injuries, especially concussions are pretty customary in sports. While we may think that we're unstoppable out there on the field, the reality is, nothing is guaranteed. Today's episode is a testament to exactly that. Mary Grayson Nix was no stranger to concussions, suffering a total of SIX throughout her soccer career. The crazy thing about concussions is since they happen so often they aren't looked at as seriously as they should. A concussion is defined as "temporary unconsciousness or confusion caused by a blow on the head" or a MILD Traumatic Brain Injury. It makes you think, what makes a SERIOUS Traumatic Brain Injury? Who is the judge of it? When will you know if it's mild or serious? What's the protocol for a serious brain injury? Can you overcome it?

Well, Mary is here to chat all about her experience. This has been a truly life changing experience for her and we are so grateful to her for opening up.

Hanna dreamt about being on the National Team for Canada. After years and years of hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, tears, she did it!!! Yet, she made the decision a few years back to hang up the jersey. Over these last three years she has done a lot of reflecting and unwinding of her habits and mindsets as an athlete. One really critical revelation she had was, just because she was confident in a space, didn't mean she felt worthy. They are completely separate. This conversation filled my cup so much and I'm so excited to share it with you.

Pressing Forward, what does that mean to you? Probably something along the lines of always growing, pushing through adversity and overcoming challenges. Today's episode talks all about those concepts. We dive into how these experiences as athletes have shaped us into who we are today and how we can create our own "lane" outside of the field. Using this simple concept of "progress over perfection" Nowoola has created his lane and has found his passion outside of football.

Why is it so hard for athletes to love themselves? Well, there's a LOT of pressure that athletes have and put on themselves. This can cause us to "doubt' our abilities when things don't go as planned. Do you ever find it hard to give yourself credit where it's due but you have no problem hyping up your best friend? I definitely struggle with this. Today Dominic and I dive into a conversation all about how we can learn about ourselves more and in-turn, love ourselves more. It sounds cliche, but when you know and love yourself, you're more likely to follow your dreams and your heart, leading to a more fulfilled life.

Can you write down 5 standards you have for yourself? You may come to realize that this question can be tough to answer. Today, we dive into a conversation all about standards, expectations and knowing the difference between the two. Emily also touches on her goal setting practices and how we can assess if we are progressing towards our goals. Why is this important? Because once we leave sport, where everything was laid out for us, it can be immensely tough to create goals and understand our progress without people clapping and giving us constant validation.

Have you ever watched a sports competition where one team and one player is going off the walls? They're yelling at their coach, yelling at their teammates, yelling at the referee. Then there's the other team or the other player that is acting like nothing's happening. Like they've done this before. Calm as a cucumber. What's the difference between those two types of people? It's their ability to cope. Everyone is experiencing the stress and the pressure of the game. One team, one player is able to cope and the other one is not. Today's guest, Sarah Sutin, a mental performance coach, dives into the tools we need to master in order to achieve our goals.

Quite frankly, these emotions don't go away once we retire from sports, so these tools are able to be used all throughout your life.

Life after sports brings so much change. One of the biggest changes is our relationship with food and exercise. As athletes, we are exercising and eating for performance. Once our sport ends, what are we doing that for? Today, Katie Spada, a former athlete nutritionist, gives us insight to how we can heal our relationship with food and "live in the grey". It's no secret that former athletes often struggle with trusting themselves. Little did we know how much this trait plays into life after sports.

As athletes, we are prone to the "go-go-go" mentality. This is known to put us at a higher risk for burn out. Natalie spent decades as a snowboarder and took her athlete mentality to every goal she went after. From becoming a nurse to a firefighter to a new business. Head down until it's finished. Tired = weak. Ironically, she now specializes in helping all people create healthy boundaries to overcome their burnout. This episode will leave you wanting to do all things 'self-care'.

A few months ago, I decided to embark on a journey to hike from the south rim to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. This journey would consist of over 200 miles of run/walk training, tons of sauna sessions and thousands of stairs climbed. A few weeks ago, I completed not only south to north, but then north to south the next day. Totaling 52 miles in less than 2 days. This was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do mentally. Though these experiences, we have the chance to learn so much. Today, I explain the road blocks we overcame, my why, and my top 3 lessons that I learned in this process.
