For any sport to grow, it needs more eyeballs on it.
It needs fans — both in attendance and watching the broadcast — to generate revenue and succeed financially. So, the fan experience and watchability of the action for spectators is a critical component in professionalizing the sport of CrossFit. Inspired by a Morning Chalk Up article, we examine this past year's CrossFit Games to discuss workouts that played well for the fans watching.
And we brainstorm about ways to improve some of the workouts that were harder for fans to follow or understand what was happening in the race happening on the competition floor.

Enjoy listening.

There are levels to things. In the sport of CrossFit, we may not have different colored belts to indicate how good a person is. But there are clear (and not-so-clear) lines showcasing how good you are relative to the field.
In this episode, the crew—including our two CrossFit Games athletes and our one intermediate athlete—discuss how to recognize different levels in CrossFit and how to work on "leveling up" your own game.

One of the coolest parts of CrossFit is how young the sport is today.
It's easy to forget the sport is only 15 years old (It can't even drive!) and we're still figuring things out. This includes how to react to crazy things you would never expect to happen on the competition floor. And how to score the athletes involved and effected by it fairly.
In this episode, we talk about 10 wild scenarios that actually happened in elite CrossFit competitions and the impact of each.

In this episode, we talk about what "deliberate practice" is in the sport of CrossFit and how it differs from regular or traditional practice. We discuss how elite athletes often implement it and how everyday CrossFitters can integrate into their fitness routines as well.

Dave Castro announced changes to the 2022 CrossFit Games season for age-group athletes.
Dave also teased possible future changes:
“I’m super excited about this year’s format and the foundations leading towards potential future years, and honestly giving us the flexibility with maybe expanding, pulling some pieces out, giving them (age-group athletes) their own event, that’s a high priority."

Months ahead of their traditional schedule, CrossFit announced the important dates for the 2022 season. Taylor Streid, Matt Dettmann & Teddy Williams discuss what it means for different levels of athletes from the Open to the Games.
Taylor discusses competing at Mayhem Desert Heat and the differences between training and competing on a team compared to as an individual. **After this episode was recorded, it was announced Mayhem Desert Heat has been indefinitely postponed sadly. But there is still tons of great stuff in this episode because Teddy took us so off topic.
Teddy Williams "ropes in" Taylor Streid and Stephen Wallace into an online competition. Matt Dettmann is taken aback with himself after making a common mistake. (Hint: Teddy made the same mistake at the beginning of this episode.) And podium predictions are made for this week's Rogue Invitational.
Show Notes:
CrossFit Games Athlete & former college swimmer, Taylor Streid offers advice and answers questions about transitioning from playing a college sport to becoming an elite CrossFit athlete.
She's joined by three former college athletes who are early in their competitive CrossFit careers right now — Izzy Marten, Connor Tobo & James Richart.
In this episode, five former collegiate athletes (and Teddy) discuss college sports and CrossFit.
What do people mean by CrossFit is a Sport? In this episode, we talk about how CrossFit can be a recreational sport, an elite sport, and a sport a lot like... golf.
Ricky Garard became a controversial figure in the sport of CrossFit after testing positive for PEDs following his 3rd Place finish at the 2017 Games. Today, Ricky is mere days away from finishing his 4-year ban from the sport. During that time, he has not been allowed to compete in any CrossFit sanctioned event, from The Open to The Games and everything in between. But that doesn't mean he wasn't training like an elite CrossFit athlete... On October 3, 2021, Ricky Garard's 4-year ban expires and he'll be eligible to compete in CrossFit sanctioned events. The organizers of the Dubai CrossFit Championship have sent an invitation to Ricky to compete in their invite-only elite event set to begin on December 16. Ricky shared on his Instagram that he's accepted the invite and is confirmed. We discuss what it all means for the sport, its fans, and the athletes.
