Programmed Perceptions with TaNeisha Barton: Recent Episodes

TaNeisha Barton

The purpose of Programmed Perceptions is to have intentional conversations about an array of topics in a way that might inspire or give someone a different perspective. As people, we are innately programmed in certain ways based on our environments, experiences, the people we encounter, and in an array of different ways. However, it is our responsibility to lean into our perceptions and see if we can uncover something new OR if we were programmed in a way that we still agree with.

In this episode, I talk about the value of knowing your worth and living your life. We all know life is hard, full of ups and downs and things we can't control. However, knowing your value in this world and how you should treat yourself is your most valuable asset. We should all lean into knowing our worth and not letting anyone that devalues our worth get in our way. Enjoy!

In this episode, I talk about how exhausting being Black can be and how everyone has a role to play in being better for each other. For example, the murder of George Floyd being so public for a moment in time made people more aware of situations and themselves. But how are we showing up for those people today? People marched and posted things on social media, but what actions are you continuing to take to show up and be aware? As a Black woman, it is exhausting for me, and this is an episode about various things that impact that exhaustion. Lastly, kudos to Black men for doing their best and showing up even when the world doesn't always give you the space to be who you are; I value and appreciate you.

In this episode, I focus on the impacts of being grateful for getting the things you asked for and how changing your perspective can be impactful. Life is hard, and we often hope for certain things to happen. However, when those things happen, we quickly go to the next thing we want to happen instead of appreciating what is right. Therefore, I needed to make this episode a reminder to be obedient to the blessings you have received.

In this episode, I talk about the importance of the people around you! In a past episode, episode #18, I spoke about the proximity to people around you and how they can impact you. Similar to this episode, I dive more into the circles of people who choose to have an around us and how building a solid circle is essential to building a strong foundation for yourself.

In this episode, I talk about how I have started trying to tell myself "no" more often and giving myself grace periods. It has shaped my decision-making. Something always interesting to me is evaluating how I live my life and trying to improve myself. I will never stop trying to be better because it makes me happy and allows me to continue to flourish in different situations.

In this episode, I talk about conflict and how it can rock our lives. However, the older I get, the more I have learned to embrace conflict as a way to grow. Of course, not every situation deserves your attention, and you will have to let things go in some disputes. But sometimes conflict can be healthy and be an excellent teacher to who you are, what you are dealing with, and how you can overcome situations. Hopefully, this episode helps some of you think of another way that you can embrace and accept the conflict that comes your way.

In this episode, it was important to me to share why I have decided to end recording new episodes. However, there will be some other episodes left. Listen if you want to understand how I came to this decision and get more information about my life and embracing all of these changes.

In this episode, I talk about how quotes and sayings are a foundation in my life. Not only is my office and different areas of my home filled with inspirational quotes, but I often apply them to almost every life situation. Each of these sayings also keeps me motivated and is a reminder to keep going even when I might not feel like it or life gets hard. Hopefully, a few of these are universally relatable!

In this episode, I decided to talk about a few things in this world that I wish could change. Some might sound a little outlandish, but when you stop and reflect, it feels like some of them can be changed quickly. As a society, we should be more open to change instead of doing things just because that is how we do things! I hope you enjoy this episode.

In this episode, I explore more about living in the gray and how that feels. So often, we focus on what will happen once we are "finished" with something. Instead of thinking about how we live and are in a particular space doing the work. There isn't anything wrong with living to complete something, but denying yourself the joy in the gray can impact the process and the happiness that comes from the end goal. Being someone that has learned this the hard way, I wanted to share how I am working to be different.

In this episode, I talk a little about how I have been working through not carrying the label of perfection for as long as I can remember; the obsession with being perfect negatively impacted my ability to show myself some grace and be a human. However, my priorities have changed over time, and the imperfections are starting to make me feel complete. Hopefully, this episode helps someone else that the thoughts of always being perfect might impact.

In this episode, I express the importance of being intentional in everything you do and how it has helped my life dramatically. Of course, life isn't about being perfect, but if you consistently align yourself with things and people that enable you to follow a path aligned with your goals, it makes things easier. Being intentional is a choice, and I hope this episode helps explain how and why it can be beneficial.

In this episode, I talk about what relationship currency means to me and how I view this currency in my relationships. Relationships are complex, and some people will tell you that you shouldn't have expectations of people. For me, relationship currency can run out of a relationship as you grow and your needs change, and this is OK. It doesn't mean that you don't like the person. It just means you all are growing in a no longer aligned way. Enjoy this different take on relationships and what happens when you start evolving as an individual.

In this episode, I rant/talk about why I am tired of never-ending debates and how they waste time. If you are not communicating to understand someone else's perspective, you waste time. Sports debates have happened for years and years, but by no means do I feel like we should stop engaging in conversations, but I do feel like if someone doesn't want to understand your point, what is the reason for wasting time?
