There are many beautiful portraits painted by the best artists of all time. But none of them compare to the portrait Paul paints in this passage in Philippians of the Lord Jesus. As we enter this Christmas season, we look back at the critical doctrine of the incarnation of the Son of God. There is much talk in Christian circles about heaven- conjectures regarding what it will be like, when it will come, and even people who claimed to have seen it. As we end our series in Revelation today, we look at one of the only authorized accounts of what heaven will be like. And of this we can be certain, because only those accounts found in Scripture can be said to be accurate, truthful and trustworthy. Guest speaker James Jourlait continues his exegesis through the book of Ephesians with an exploration of chapter 5, verses 3-10. In this passage we will see another prime example of the varied use of the law through the exhortation against sexual immorality. For the unbeliever, it is a pleading to repent and trust in Christ for the forgiveness of their sin. For believers, it is an encouragement that Christ has won victory for us through His death and resurrection, and that we can now live free of our sin, all the while returning to the fountain of His blood to wash when we do succumb to temptation. We will discover what they teach, how they appear in today's world, and how the truth of Scripture refutes them. We continue our study through the book of Revelation by examining the message of Jesus to the second of the seven churches, the church at Smyrna. One of only two churches of the seven to receive commendation with no rebuke, this is a church undergoing hardship and persecution. Chapter 2 of the book of Revelation begins the messages of Christ to the 7 churches of the ancient world. After 2 years, we have come to the final sermon in our series through the book of Romans- We will end our time in this wonderful book with a very important question- where does the Christian's sanctification come from- Is it of grace- Of works- A combination of both- Though it may seem academic, the answer to this question is essential to understand, as it forms the basis of our Orthopraxy- how we do our good works and fight against sin. As we near the end of the book of Romans, our study today focuses on Scripture's warnings regarding false teachers. In our current times it is often popular to rebuke the person warning of false teachers, but not the false teachers themselves. Today's passage admonishes the opposite, that we should not only be wary of false teachers, but call them out and mark them as we avoid them, and encourage others to do the same. This week we begin the final chapter of our study in Romans, chapter 16. In light of a recent bill signed into law in Canada essentially forbidding the preaching of biblical ethics in regards to human sexuality, we are taking a break from our regular series to stand with our Canadian brothers and sisters in Christ. We join them in standing on the Word of God and proclaiming the good news that while -neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God,- -1 Cor. 6-9-10- all who come to Jesus confessing their sin and trusting in Him to be their righteousness will receive forgiveness, cleansing and eternal life. This particular passage points out through examples of Israel's patriarchs that it is not physical descent, but God's promise given to His elect that determines the children of God. Perhaps no other text so clearly teaches the surety and security of the Christian's salvation than our text this week, Romans 8-29-30. Commonly referred to as the Golden Chain of Redemption, this passage proclaims both the source of our salvation, and the certainty of its completion.
