The stone is rolled away, we hear the Angels question why they are looking for the living one among the dead. We run with Peter & John to the tomb, we run inside and look around. If we stay with Mary, we might hear Jesus say our name like he said Mary’s name. The Jewish leaders refuse to believe Jesus is the Son of God in the flesh. Even though they hear His words and see things He does, they will not believe. Jesus caps it all off with raising a dead man to life and the leaders can’t stand it, so they plot together to kill Jesus. See how much Jesus loved Lazarus? We have heard multiple times that Jesus loves his friend Lazarus. And then Jesus weeps. Death moves us to tears and Jesus feels it too. Wise men come from the east, following a special star, a star that signifies the birth of the King of the Jews. They followed that star all the was to Jerusalem, but there was no baby in the king’s palace. So they followed the star to Bethlehem and worshiped Jesus, the King of the Jews. The Angel says to the shepherds, he has good news of great joy for all the people, “a Savior is born and He is Christ the Lord” We love good news and it's even better when it's good news for everyone. God told a prophet over 700 years before Jesus was born, that a virgin would give birth to a Son and we would call his name Immanuel which is translated “God with us”. Today we are talking about the passion of Jesus, His suffering for us. I believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus took all the sins of humanity on Himself and gave His life as a ransom for His people. Jesus paid the price for sin that we could not pay. We eat a lot together, that is we frequently get together around food. And that’s not just because I like to cook; Jesus models this for us in his ministry. We sin, yes we all sin. Sometimes we sin and we know we sinned but we don’t want anyone to know, but God knows. God reveals our sin to us to draw us back to Him to receive forgiveness. Today we hear about King David’s sin and the hymn he wrote about sin, confession, and forgiveness. Repentance means a turn from sin toward the Righteous One who takes away our sin. And God is patiently waiting, calling, and looking for us. Jesus gives us a view of 2 people talk to God. One person is trying to justify himself and tell God how good he is. Do you ever feel lost? We loose stuff, we had our keys or our sanity here somewhere, but now I can’t find it. We get lost, and that’s good news for us because Jesus receives lost people like us. We hear John crying out to a bunch of people in the wild and life gets pretty rough out there. People just like us, life doesn’t go as planned for us either. We hear God speaking through John saying “turn around and receive forgiveness of sins” God is promising forgiveness to the baptized believers and that gives birth to repentance. Repentance is when we turn to God, it’s that point in life when we know we have messed up and we have no idea what to do next. When we hear God, when we know we can’t fix ourselves, that’s when we turn to God and say, “Now what do I do?” and we hear God calling us to Himself.

God is teaching us about faithfulness through some women in scripture, women to whom God has been faithful to. This week Jesus has dinner at Martha's house and Jesus delivers the good stuff and he won't take it away from Mary who sits at His feet while Martha does all the work. Jesus gives the good stuff to us too, sit back and receive it.

It reminds me of this time Jesus was talking with a woman and she told her whole town that Jesus was the Messiah and so many people believed. We are discussing the woman at the well and her invitation to come and see Jesus.

And you're right, I don't know what they did to you, but we need to forgive as God has forgiven us. Yep, today we are talking about Forgiveness. You are forgiven and you get to forgive everyone who sins against you too.

Sometimes I think Christmas is for children. We talk about the birth of Jesus and celebrate with presents. Kids love presents. But the birth of CHRIST wasn’t the beginning of Jesus. He is and always has been the Son of God eternal, and everyone who receives Him, who believes in Him, is made a child of God. So yeah, I guess CHRISTmas is for all of us children of God.

Are you afraid of doing it wrong, of what everyone will think or say when they hear what you did? That’s what Joseph was afraid of. But God said, “Do not fear.” Do not fear marrying Mary. The baby is God’s Son and you will name Him Jesus, for he will save people from their sins. That baby is Jesus CHRIST. Do not fear.

What's the difference between happiness and JOY? And how can God look at us and say that He is pleased with us? Has God really looked at me and said He is pleased with me, I'm not even pleased with me most of the time, so how could God be pleased? The source of God's joy and our joy is Jesus our Savior. He is our JOY!

God chooses an ordinary girl in a small town to give birth to the Son of God. God looks at her and gives GRACE. Grace- undeserved, unearned favor. And the angel's message proclaims the Lord is with her. And that's good news for us too, not only did God give grace to Mary, but He gives grace to us too!

Today is the first Sunday in Advent, a day we HOPE for the future with eyes on the past. Preparing for Christmas by remembering past Christmases, old decorations, traditions, and songs. God prepares people for the birth of His One and only Son by sending John the prophet to prepare the way. Advent is the season the church looks back at Jesus coming and looks forward to Him coming again.

Do you ever feel not good enough? Not good enough for God, not good enough to be forgiven? Christ sets us free from that "good enough" stuff. It's never Christ + that gives us salvation. We are set free from slavery to sin by faith in Christ. Only Christ.

Why do we want to do it on our own? Why do we think we can make someone love us if we do the right thing? Why do we think we can make God love us by being "good enough"? God knows us, and he still loves us. Today we confess our own plans and hear God's love for us.

I love being right, like all the time, but what makes us right in God's eyes? Were you made right with God by doing good stuff? Were you justified (just as if I'd never sinned) by the works of the Law? No. Jesus has taken sin's curse upon Himself on the cross so we can be justified. We are declared righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. So why do some of us think of the Law? The righteous live by faith.

In Galatians 2 we get to hear a little of the Apostle Paul's life and we even get to hear about an argument that Paul has with Peter. Peter was wrong. Peter sinned. I love that God doesn't hesitate to share people's failures to show God's forgiveness. We hear without a doubt, doing good stuff doesn't earn us justification. The Law's job is to kill us, so God can make us alive in Christ Jesus and declare us righteous in His eyes. God gets all the credit.

Have you ever felt hopeless? Stuck in a bad job or you can't find a job and you feel like you'll never get hired; a relationship that is so bad you don't think it can be saved; credit card debt that just piles up you feel like you'll never be able to pay it off. Have you ever felt hopeless? Paul gets stuck in a terrible storm at sea and it seems hopeless, but God speaks words of hope in the middle of a hopeless situation. Are you ever tempted to just do whatever you want - even when you know it's wrong? We are all tempted to live our own way instead of God's way. We are tempted every day. Did you know Jesus was tempted too? What did Jesus do when He was tempted? It's so easy when life gets hard for us to forget we are God's children and he loves us. God love us even when we are tempted to go our own way. But God's way is always right. Trust God even when you're tempted.

Today is Vision Sunday at Word of Life. A day we look back on 2021 and remember the amazing stuff God has done. We also look forward to 2022 and all that God will do in and through us. It reminds me of the time Jesus forgives a guy who couldn't help himself. A paralyzed guy's friends bring him to Jesus - and Jesus sees their faith. Those are the kind of friends we need. Friends who bring us to Jesus when we can't do anything for ourselves. We need Jesus who forgives us.

Before Jesus' public ministry kicked off, he got baptized by John the Baptizer. And what a day that was, Jesus getting baptized, the Holy Spirit descending in the form of a dove and God the Father speaking from heaven, "That's My Son!" And God says to us today, "to all who received Him, who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."

"Made you look!" always makes me feel like an idiot. In the early years of Jesus' ministry John the Baptizer (cool nickname) wasn't concerned with people following him, no, John was pointing his best friends to follow Jesus. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Not just hiding our sin and shame, Jesus actually takes our sin away and God declares us forgiven.

Thank God he washes us clean! What are you thanking God for today? Family? Home? Food? Health? Forgiveness? We are starting a new series about King David, a guy who God said had a heart after His own heart. I want a heart like God's heart too. But before we get introduced to David, we get to hear the background story of God's people rejecting God and His kingship just because they want a king like everyone else and Israel's first king, Saul tall dark and afraid.

In light of LS-H School District's decision to move 6th-12th grade students to distance learning, we have updated our Ministry schedule and Covid-19 Protocols. 1.No Youth Group meetings on October 28th or November 4th. 2.45's, Middle School, & High School will meet In-Person starting November 11th. 3.We will be implementing Curbside Temperature Scans and Check-In along with proper mask-wearing and social distancing. 4.The Fall Blast Retreat trip to Inspiration Point is canceled. These past 5 months have clearly been unlike anything any of us have experienced before. Covid-19 has truly been an unprecedented time and has caused many to fear. As we are going through our study in the Psalms this summer, I am reminded in Psalm 62 that “I put my hope in the Lord.” God is with us every step if the way. Face coverings are now required indoors at Word of Life Church in alignment with the July 22 State order issued by Governor Walz in an effort to decrease the spread of COVID-19. This order is intended to protect the health and safety of employees, visitors, and the community. This order begins July 25th and will continue until further notice. If you do not have a mask, we will provide one for you as you worship with us. We understand for some that this will be an inconvenience. If that is the case for you, we are still worshiping online at 10am on both our Facebook page or our Youtube channel where we will be live-streaming the service.
