FOTODOKS is an international festival for contemporary documentary photography, taking place every two years in Munich. From June 7th to July 4th, 2021, the FOTODOKS Festival presented its tenth edition with “A house is a house is a house” - a group exhibition with an interdisciplinary accompanying program and an extensive publication. Together, the contributions reflect the current understanding of home. In this podcast, FOTODOKS provides audio talks with exhibiting photographers, lectures and round tables from the festival program. This podcast is bilingual: English & German Episodes

VINCENT BABABOUTILABO IN CONVERSATION WITH NOEMI / NOW YOU SEE ME MORIA
Now You See Me Moria Initiated by Dutch photographer and photo editor Noemí in 2020, the activist project and collective Now You See me Moria was founded due to the lack of media coverage and a growing dispair about human rights violations at Camp Moria on the Greek island of Lesbos. The group members – besides Noemí there is Qutaeba from Syria, Ali and Amir from Afghanistan - want to spread awareness for the humanitarian crisis in the EU, in particular at Moria refugee camp.

Musician, author and activist Vincent Bababoutilabo`s work takes place at the intersection of art and politics. In recent years, his artistic and political projects have focused on migration, escape, decolonisation, exploitation and resistance. His work also seeks a positive vision for a just society in which we can all be different without experiencing anxiety.

Where is the journey going?
How has the scene changed in recent years, what are the challenges and what are the experiences of photographers of different generations? How does the changing market influence the way of working? What changes do magazines and publishers have to face? What role do commissions play compared to freelance work? And how can projects be financed on the one hand and made visible on the other? How should socially relevant topics be implemented? Is it still justified that "western" photographers are sent out into the world and bring back pictures with an outside view? And what do we actually want from journalistic images and photojournalism in 2021?
We explore these questions together with Natalia Kepesz, Now You See Me Moria, Dr. Ali Shobeiri and Matthias Ziegler. The discussion is moderated by Nadja Masri.
The polish photographer Natalia Kepesz lives and works in Berlin. After graduating in cultural studies and art history at the Humboldt University Berlin, she studied photography at the Ostkreuzschule Berlin. She use photography as a means of self-expression to identify with hidden qualities of her character, to better understand her reality, and to express her interpretation of the world around her. By photographing, she transforms her own childhood memories. Growing up was always accompanied by the urge to discover something else. http://www.nataliakepesz.de/

Dr. Ali Shobeiri (*1984) is Assistant Professor of Visual Arts Theory and Photographic Studies at Leiden University, Netherlands. His current research and publications are in the area of aesthetics, phenomenology, visual culture and spatial studies. Nadja Masri works as an independent photo editor, lecturer and visual consultant. Her time as senior photo editor and bureau chief at GEO magazine and lecturer at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in the open-minded and vibrant metropolis New York has had a huge impact on her career. Nadja Masri, who has an MA in communication science has been head of the one-year certificate course for photo editors at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin since 2011. She also teaches at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, at ICP, conducts workshops, gives talks and judges photo contests. http://www.nadjamasri.com/
Matthias Ziegler (*1964) studied at the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Fotografie in Munich and has been working on assignments for various editorial and commercial clients ever since. Emine Akbaba (*1987, Hannover) ist freie Fotografin und Dokumentarfilmerin. Sie studierte Fotojournalismus und Dokumentarfotografie an der Hochschule Hannover und an der Danish School of Journalism. In ihrer fotojournalistischen Arbeit hat sie sich auf den Nahen und Mittleren Osten fokussiert. Ihr derzeitiges, von der VG Bild-Kunst gefördertes Projekt thematisiert Frauenmorde durch Männer in der Türkei. Vor Ort recherchiert sie über die hohe Femizidrate im Land, trifft Familienangehörige der getöteten Frauen und sucht die Tatorte auf.

Gürsoy Doğtaş ist Kunsthistoriker und arbeitet parakuratorisch an den Schnittpunkten zu Institutionskritik, strukturellem Rassismus und Queerstudies. Er forscht an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien.

Henk Wildschut (*1967), lives and works in Amsterdam. He is a documentary photographer and deals with socially relevant issues. From 2005 to 2020 he focused his work on migration and illegal immigration into Europe, publishing three books on those issues: Shelter (2009) Ville de Calais (2017) und Rooted (2020).

Jörg Koopmann (*1968, Munich) is a freelance photographer, curator, artist, author and publisher. He lives and works in both Munich and Copenhagen. From 2008 – 2017 he was a team member of FOTODOKS, the festival for documentary photography in Munich. In 2014 – 2019 he worked as curator of Lothringer 13 Halle for contemporary art in Munich. At present he teaches photography at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel.

EMILY NILL & LEONIE CHIMA EMEKA IN CONVERSATION WITH LINDOKUHLE SOBEKWA & CYPRIEN CLÉMENT-DELMAS ABOUT THEIR COLLABORATION "DALESIDE: STATIC DREAMS"
Cyprien Clément-Delmas (*1986 in Paris) ist ein preisgekrönter französischer Fotograf und Regisseur. Zeitgleich lehrt er auch Fotografie, u.a. in Südafrika, wo er auf Lindokuhle Sobekwa traf. Gemeinsam begannen sie ihr dokumentarfotografisches Projekt Daleside: Static Dreams, welches in dem gleichnamigen Buch (GOST, London) resultierte. Cyprien arbeitet regelmäßig auch für soziale Projekte und unterrichtet dabei Dokumentarfotografie in instabileren Ländern.

Lindokuhle Sobekwa (1995 in Johannesburg) kam 2012 durch seine Teilnahme am Of Soul and Joy Project, einem Bildungsprogramm im Thokoza Township südöstlich von Johannesburg, zur Fotografie. Er wurde 2018 Magnum Nominee und 2020 assoziiertes Mitglied. Sobekwas Arbeiten wurden in Südafrika, Norwegen und im Iran ausgestellt. Sein Buch Daleside: Static Dreams (GOST, London) ist eine Zusammenarbeit mit Cyprien Clément-Delmas*.

Emily Nill (*1993) ist Kunsthistorikerin und beendet gerade ihren MA in curatorial studies an der Städelschule/ Goethe Universität in Frankfurt. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Medientheorie und Realismusdebatten in europäischer Fotografie, Film und Malerei des 20. Jahrhunderts. Sie schreibt u.a. für KubaParis und arbeitete an verschiedenen Institutionen in Frankfurt wie dem Museum MMK für Moderne Kunst und ist derzeit in der Digitalen Sammlung des Städel Museums sowie als Assistentin der Presse in der Städelschule beschäftigt.
Leonie Chima Emeka (*1996) ist Kunsthistorikerin und Provenienzforscherin. Sie studiert Curatorial Studies an der Städelschule Frankfurt und ist seit 2018 beim International Inventories Programme Kenya tätig. Sie beschäftigt sich mit der Repräsentation schwarzer Haut in europäischer Kunst sowie der Geschichte Afrikanischer Kulturgüter in Europäischen Kulturinstitutionen.

Arzu Sandal studierte Fotojournalismus und Dokumentarfotografie an der Hochschule Hannover. Sie interessiert sich für unsere physische und emotionale Verbindung zu Orten und unsere Beziehung zueinander. Spezialisiert auf Langzeitprojekte hat ihre Fotografie im Kern Erfahrung zu verarbeiten und diese in Bildern festzuhalten. Aktuell arbeitet sie als Fotoredakteurin und freie Fotografin in Hamburg.

Sonja Pham (*1987) setzt sich als freie Journalistin am liebsten mit kreativer Innovation und dem menschlichen Schaffenstrieb auseinander. Sie ist Mitgründerin und stellvertretende Chefredakteurin der Fachzeitschrift Grafikmagazin und schreibt nebenher für diverse Print- und Onlineformate, meist über Design, Literatur und die Gastronomie. Mit ihrem Mann und ihrer Tochter lebt sie in München.

**ANNA FENIA SCHNEIDER IN CONVERSATION WITH DANNIELLE BOWMAN ABOUT HER WORK "WHAT HAD HAPPENED"
Dannielle Bowman** is a visual artist working with photography. She received a BFA from The Cooper Union and an MFA from the Yale School of Art. In 2020 Dannielle Bowman was awarded the 2020 Aperture Portfolio Prize and the same year she was recipient of the PHMuseum Women Photographers Grant. Danielle Bowman has exhibited in the US and internationally. She lives and works in New York.

Anna Fenia Schneider (*1979) is a curator at the Haus der Kunst in Munich since 2012. With a focus on postcolonial thought, her curatorial work pays particular attention to global historical, cultural and political contexts. She graduated with a master’s degree in Exhibition and Museum Studies as a Fulbright Scholar from the San Francisco Art Institute (2009) and holds a diploma from the Fachhochschule in Potsdam (2007). Recent work at the Haus der Kunst include: Michael Armitage: Paradise Edict (2020/21) and Theaster Gates: Black Chapel (2019/20), furthermore she co-curated several exhibitions with the late Okwui Enwezor, among them Hanne Darboven: Enlightenment (2015/16) and Frank Bowling: Mappa Mundi (2017/18).
