Beyond the Scope

Hi everyone, my name is Andy (ND for short) and I am a photographer/videographer turned medical student at the Medical College of Georgia seeking to share stories, teach others, and maybe inspire someone along the way. Giving you the unfiltered view of what it's like to be a med student while trying to have a little fun in the process.

During this show, we will interview medical students, practitioners, and professionals about the things that make up their life that are "Beyond the Scope" of their typical responsibilities. We'll cover topics like marriage in medical school, managing extracurriculars, building your resume, and more!

For blogs about medical school tips and tricks and formal creative inquiries visit ndmdproductions.com (Specific program questions should always be reviewed on the .edu website first, then emailed to me) For more content, check out my YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/c/NDMD999

Welcome to the Beyond the Scope Podcast presented by ND MD. This podcast continues the mission of sharing the incredible stories and experiences of students, physicians, and healthcare professionals...but this time it's all about the things all those years of medical training doesn't prepare you for. Things that are beyond the scope of our practice.

Today ventures somewhat away from the mission of talking about things not taught in medical school because med school DEFINITELY teaches you this stuff (or should). My personal mentor during my USMLE Step 1 and 2CK dedicated studying, Dr. Rahul Damania aka HyGuru joins me on this episode to break down some practice med school board exam questions for each other shelf topics. Listen and practice along to see if you can get them all right!

Today I get to welcome back to the channel an old friend of mine who supported this podcast from the very beginning. From struggling with imposter syndrome, motivation, and academic identity in high school, Will has become an excellent example of the mantra that "hard work is greater than talent." Many feel because they were not inherently placed in gifted or honors classes throughout their educational journey that they are not worthy of the title of physician, and Will's story is here to encourage those with that frame of mind that the grade school system, and grades in general, are not a definition of your ability to be a courageous and caring doctor.
