Recently, we have had a cockroach problem at our home. The kitchen has been heavily inhabited by cockroach families, and we are still working hard to combat them. This incident brought back an old memory of my unforgettable encounter with a cockroach at my grandmother's house when I was about nine years old. There was one person in the house that even the king of the cockroach tribe could not scare nor surprise.

Our days are filled with portals to some interesting memories from the past. Recently, I have heard several different people talk about Disneyland and their love and admiration from this world-famous theme park. Before I knew it, I was recalling my own visit to Tokyo Disneyland with my parents when I was six years old.

Do you ever feel that time passes so quickly since you became an adult? My theory is that it is because as adults our days tend to be repetitive, full of routines. But when we were little, it was not like that. Each day was filled with unpredictable events, and we loved it when the routines of adults around us got messed up by some unexpected incidents.

In this episode, I share a story from December when I was ten years old. That December, after Christmas, my family was visiting my maternal grandmother's house to help the family with their end-of-the-year cleaning when I happened to meet my cousin's fiancé for the first time. Sometimes, a memory sticks in our mind simply because of the powerful impression of the moment. This memory is certainly one of those.

In today's episode, I will share with you a memory from my early childhood when I had a fight with my little brother. At the time, I was five and he was two. That year, we would regularly fight over small matters while playing together, and the way it happened was always the same. Even though it looks insignificant in an adult's eye, as a young child, the fight involved a lot of emotions for both of us. I wonder what memory of small fight you might recall from your childhood or in the little children around you.

Welcome to Episode 43 of Maiko's Story Photograph Podcast :)

Have you had an experience when you saw somebody, you thought they were somebody you knew and spoke to them, only to realize that they were total strangers? I certainly have had many - especially when I was younger and a lot more care-free. It's such an embarrassing feeling especially when you look at the person's face and realize that you don't know that person at all, and moreover, that person looks back at you with a blank face! Today's story is about the time when I was about seven or eight and spoke to two strangers in a park while visiting my great aunt in Tokyo with my mother. The way these two people responded to me was so special that it stayed in my heart forever.

Welcome to Episode 36 of Maiko's Story Photograph Podcast :)

There are many reasons why we may not share our stories with others. Sometimes, it's because the story feels too delicate and private. Sometimes, it's because we feel the story can provoke a strong emotion for us or for the other person. Other times, we don't share because the story feels too silly to tell others. Today's story belongs to the last category. It's about one very silly incident that happened when I was eight years old. What silly but unforgettable memories do you have?

Welcome to Episode 31 of Maiko's Story Photograph Podcast :)

Sometimes, a story that we hear from somebody else can stay in our memory and we remember it as if it were our own. What I share with you in this episode is a story I heard from my physics teacher when I was a high school student in Japan. It was one funny episode that he and his two-year-old daughter had encountered during their regular park visit. Recently, when I suddenly remembered the story, it made me laugh again. As you listen to this episode, I wonder what funny story you heard from other people might come back to you.

Welcome to Episode 30 of Maiko's Story Photograph Podcast :)

Are you somebody who likes walking on a big street bustling with people and events or a quiet backstreet with less people and attractions? If this were a metaphor of your social life, which do you see yourself walking on? As far as I remember, I've always been somebody who walks on a backstreet, most of the times unintentionally. I think I'm walking on a busy main road until one day I realize that I'm again on a deserted backstreet. But walking on a backstreet also has its perks of discovering interesting details and meeting unique people. In this episode, I share with you a story when I was in junior high school and ran for a school election. It turned out to be another backstreet experience, but with unforgettable encounters.

Now, make yourself a cup of tea, and let's spend the 6 minutes together in the cozy room of a story photograph!

Welcome to Episode 29 of Maiko's Story Photograph Podcast :)

Are you somebody who cares deeply about looking nice before going out by making a conscious choice of clothing, styling your hair and putting on some make-up? Or are you somebody who are satisfied as long as you look decent and rather prefer to leave home right away? I'm in the latter group, but I have seen many people who are dedicated to pre-outing preparation. In today's story, I share a memory with my elder cousin who was so passionate about dressing up before outing that one day it led to a rather comical situation.

There are many different reasons why a memory of a food can stay with us for a long time. In today's story, I'll share with you the memory of a bread that I bought and ate with my father when I was about nine years old. When you were a child, did you find some of the adults' behaviours to be incomprehensible? For example, mothers' standing and talking to each other in one spot for a very long time, fathers getting excited upon drinking beers with friends, or adults in general feeling extremely uncomfortable receiving gifts from others. In this episode, I'll share with you a story of an incident where my mother got so obsessed with refusing a given gift that she ended up putting herself in a funny situation. I wonder what strange habit of adults you will recall as you listen to today's story.

In this episode, I want to tell you about my special encounter with this one-of-the-kind musician and introduce you to one of his latest music piece called Price of Freedom. He is a Ukrainian musician from the city of Kalush.
