AI, Authenticity and the Human Advantage

Artificial intelligence is everywhere right now. It can help us write faster, organise ideas, and even create whole pieces of content in seconds.

Welcome to the first episode of the New Year! I’m thrilled to kick off 2025 by sharing an inspiring story from Uganda. A very different, and a very important entrepreneurial conversation.

In today’s episode, we’re joined by Mwanda Abel, a secondary school teacher and the founder of St. Kizito Hope for Orphans, a non-profit making a profound impact in the Eastern region of Uganda.

Through the positive side of social media Mawanda and I met a few years back and I've been following his incredible work helping hundreds of children who are fed, educated and supported by him and his team.

This is a story of a whole community coming together to help - from the ladies making the clothes for the children, from growing food, getting international support and interest - to the everyday support for the children in their care.

Mwanda is doing incredible work, providing education, shelter, and a brighter future for vulnerable children through his orphanage and school support. From nursery to secondary education, the children not only receive schooling, but also essential support to help them graduate and build better lives.

But the need is urgent. With 208 children in one school alone and 65 older kids in the orphanage, it's a massive task.

In this episode, Mwanda shares his journey, the challenges, and how we can all make a difference. Whether it’s through sponsoring a child, donating, or simply spreading the word, every bit helps.

This is a heartfelt conversation and learn more about how we can support St. Kizito Hope for Orphans and transform lives, one child at a time.

Welcome to this episode! I’m thrilled to introduce, Dr. Mark Deeks – speaker, teacher, and performer with an incredible background spanning over 25 years in the music industry. And, a Heavy Metal aficionado, of course.

Mark has built a diverse and fascinating career, from delivering a TedX talk on the mental health benefits of heavy metal, to his choir work with BBC’s Gareth Malone. He’s also conducted the Royal Northern Sinfonia, led workplace-based musical projects focused on staff wellbeing, and even musical directed for Faye Tozer of Steps.

Mark’s versatility doesn’t end there – he’s given piano lessons to Lenny Henry (famous British comedian and actor) - worked with black metal bands like Winterfylleth, whom he joined. And even written symphonic versions of songs by metal stars Sonata Arctica.

But above all, Mark is passionate about the power of music to reduce stress and improve mental health. Whether through his keynote speaking, interactive workshops, or encouraging people to incorporate music into their daily lives, he’s dedicated to showing how music can be a game-changer for personal and professional wellbeing.

**Welcome, in this short solo episode I do a dive into working abroad and the plethora of opportunities.

I hope you find this both interesting and inspiring.**

Now the detail :) I discuss the opportunities and experiences of working abroad, particularly for teachers and educators, drawing from my personal experience of moving to the United Arab Emirates.

I emphasize the importance of research and due diligence before making such a move and highlight the benefits of working abroad, including professional development and cultural immersion. I do encourage listeners to consider working abroad and offer my help and advice for more information. For us, it was a truly unforgettable experience.

Today's podcast episode features Saif Maghrabi, who is back living in the UAE, having grown-up in Dubai.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway - for the solopreneur or entrepreneur - from this episode is not to give up when it seems that things are not going very well.

The conversation ranges from what could've been learnt at school to a determination to succeed, the discovery of mindset and entrepreneurial endeavours. We touched on some funny moments of entrepreneurialship at school and what can make maths interesting...

This is also an episode very much for the property investor as we learn about the market in the United Arab Emirates and the incredible possibilities that could be compared to opportunities that were taken in London and New York for example in the 70s. ...With the lockdowns she wasn't able to continue her interior design business so turned to the internet - where she was and - is still able to reach a wide audience helping people to understand their personal and brand colours.

The impact has been amazing and continues to change people's lives.

This episode has many action points; grab a pen, take some notes and get back into the emails or make this the week you start sending emails to potential clients.

One important reminder though never send an email if the email address hasn't been freely given to you.

The correct way to have someone's email address:

As examples you may have someone's email **because they have given it to you after you have completed a job or service for them and you've offered to update them, you may have had a giveaway that has allowed you to have their email address with their permission, you may have a newsletter that they have subscribed to knowing they will get extra information, or simply the result of a casual conversation.

But you must have permission to send emails. ALWAYS.**

Absolutely make sure you have permission to send someone an email, and also do not be upset if they unsubscribe at some point, it happens - it's not an issue!

In this episode, we change direction a little in the conversations we've had here on the podcast. Tracey Young's focus is on childhood trauma and how this affects adults. Tracey is a social worker who is also working to help adults with childhood trauma.

From an entrepreneurial point of view, this shows how we can turn experience, skills and knowledge into work we can do for ourselves. And in Tracey's case helping young people and adults to understand a situation and make significant life-changing moves.

This is one of my very first Podcast Conversations - and I do need to give a huge shout out to Mike Dillard, who very generously agreed to be a guest, in fact my FIRST guest.

In this episode, it is my great pleasure to have Brian Fanale as my guest. I first met Brian, and his business partners, when I joined their original business platform in 2016. How did I not find them before then is always a question! Better late than never though.

When I first met Dr Rebecca Williams I just knew we needed to invite her on our podcast!

We met through the power of good networking, so always remember to connect with people, your sort of people!

But today this is not about networking, but about Dr Rebecca Williams' work with stress and how she is helping so many of us through advice, her book and of course both corporate and individuals.

Our modern-day world has many stresses and I think a lot of us don't recognise and we need help.

Some shocking information Paul shares - In the time it takes you to read this introduction, two small businesses in the UK will have fallen victim to cyberattacks. It's a scary reality, but most of us still don't know where to start when it comes to protecting ourselves online. Well, our guest is about to change all of that.

Amanda Whitehead is a health, nutrition and lifestyle coach who has been in the industry for 26 years.

She helps overwhelmed women aged 35+ to increase energy, enhance sleep and feel sexy again without calorie counting.

After years of suffering with irritable bowel syndrome and an underactive thyroid, with Western medicines not helping, and in some cases worsening her symptoms Amanda studied and learnt how alternative methods of healing can work through analysing what we choose to put in our body and what thoughts we allow into our mind.

Amanda Davey is a geographer and landscape architect who writes entertaining (even quirky) non-fiction and takes photographs also inspired by her love of the outside world and its foibles.

She has worked for herself since 2004 and started publishing greeting cards in 2014 and added books to the list in 2015 with her grandfather's long-awaited autobiography of his life as a high-profile civil engineer.

Once a map curator, the call to spend more time with muddy feet was strong and she retrained as a landscape architect in the 1990s.

Her interests are extremely diverse and eclectic and landscape architecture is the perfect foil for this as there is virtually no subject that is off-limits.

She has worked as an environmental consultant, graphic designer, photographer, information specialist and has a design background underpinned by mathematics.

A deep believer in the value to learning and life purpose that humour and laughter can contribute she is a fan of Douglas Adams as an instinctive philosopher and not just a comedy writer and is keen that learning happens through enjoyment and curiosity - that 'lighting the flame' idea for education rather than just plodding out information with no heart.

"I'm Mark Jerling and I'm a personal trainer and group exercise instructor in and around Worthing, West Sussex.

Most of my working life has been spent in management but then in 2011, I became a bit disillusioned with the daily work routine. I felt like my work life was out of sync. My wife suggested to me “why don't you do what you love, fitness".

So I booked myself an intensive personal training course and since then I have not looked back.

I love helping people find ways to achieve their goals, whatever they may be, weight loss, get fitter, become a better athlete or just feel good about themselves. I give people the confidence to do things that they didn't believe they could and seeing that change is a great experience.

Within a couple of years, I added group exercise classes to my repertoire. Instructing to a full class of enthusiastic participants is again just a lovely feeling. I've also seen people change shape and improve fitness whilst attending classes.

In 2016, we moved to a home where we a have a lovely bit of land with chickens, geese, ducks and bees and with farmland as our view.

I feel now like I have found my work life balance."
