In Episode 6, Jimmy Hinton shared some of his story. In this episode, we unpack what forgiveness is and what it is not. Too often, the burden of forgiveness is placed on the shoulders of victims while abusers are not held to account. We hope that this conversation brings hope and healing to many. Regardless of the label, Parental Alienation/DV by Proxy/Child and Mother Sabotage is hell on earth. It only takes one abusive patner to destroy a relationship. The abuser often uses DARVO and turns their children against the victim parent. In this episode, I share this reality so that helpers can understand what survivors are going through. In this episode, I address three groups of people: survivors, church people, and spiritual leaders. Survivors, if you no longer feel safe in church, you can leave. Church people, if you attend a church that is harming others, you are endorsing abuse. Spiritual leaders, God sees all, hears all, and knows all. You may be getting away with abuse now, but you will give an account sooner or later. In this episode, I continue to share about my experiences in spiritual institutions. I have been a part of a DOZEN different institutions and have had close encounters with HUNDREDS of spiritual leaders and have experienced tremendous abuse and trauma for over four decades. I fought long and hard to address harm in a Biblical manner. (Note: There is some overlap between part 2 and 3. I apologize for repeating myself. Also, I referenced Matthew 25, but I meant Matthew 18. I think I need a nap now.) I spoke up on behalf of others who were being harmed. My voice was ignored and silenced. My spirit grew weaker and weaker. Three years ago, I left corporate religion and pursued safety and freedom. I now experience peace and joy that I never knew before. What a heartbreaking and gut-wrenching week for the survivor community. Everywhere we turn, there are stories that shake us. In this podcast, I share about a Round Table discussion I participated in with Thomas Pryde (Psalm 82 Initiative) and Sarah McDugal. We went through the video from the Indiana pastor’s “confession” of “adultery” with a 16 year old girl. Watch here: https://www.facebook.com/sarahmcdugalauthor/videos/686921625944312/. The releases of this video, the sexual abuse data base by SBC, and the docu series “Sins of the Amish” and the Josh Duggar sentencing all occurred within three days. I offer suggestions for taking care of ourselves, honoring boundaries and limitations, and practicing self-care during these trying times. From an Open Letter to Christian Authors, Bloggers, Podcasters, Influencers, and Leaders,

I come to you on behalf of countless women who are suffering from destructive marriages…

My first plea is that you become familiar with the patterns and systems of abuse…

Based upon my personal experience and the hundreds of women that I encounter daily, my gut tells me that 50-75% of women within faith communities are experiencing multiple forms of abuse on a regular basis.

These women read your books, blogs, and social media posts.

These women listen to your podcasts and sermons.

These women have endured years, even decades, of heartbreaking, gut-wrenching, soul-crushing abuse.

Some are aware that they are being abused, and many are yet aware.

We can no longer say, “But my message was directed at healthy couples.”

Many marriages are not healthy.

Most women who are seeking out help are not in healthy marriages and the messages they hear cause more harm.

When you speak on these topics and do not include a warning about abuse, these women feel blamed, shamed and responsible for the abuse they are enduring…Read full letter here: https://heatherelizabeth.org/blog/31502/an-open-letter-to-christian-authors-bloggers-podcasters-influencers-and-leaders. Grieving the living. It’s a thing. A very real thing. Because of abuse, there are times we must set boundaries with friends and family, and go low or no contact. Many mamas are experiencing parental alienation from their children. Many women are cast out by their families, churches and social communities. I pray this brings clarity to those who are hurting and gives us all greater understanding of how to walk this road of grief together. I met Jimmy a year ago through the Give Her Wings Academy. Since that time, I have listened to every esisode of the podcast he and his sweet mama, Clara, have recorded. This family had been through the fires of hell and chose to come out and carry back buckets of water for the masses still consumed by flames. They speak out against sexual abuse and call the church to do the same. In this episode, Jimmy shares some of his story, and speaks of the foundation of God’s kingdom (righteousness and justice). He also shares how churches should respond to abusers (wolves) based on that foundation. For more resources, go to https://jimmyhinton.org/.
