Alex, one of our exchange students from France, has a passion for traveling and she chose Emporia State as her next stop. She came to finish up the last semester of her Masters in the US, while also making the most of her time here. We can confirm that she took advantage of the convenient central location of Kansas because she ended up visiting 10 states! We are so happy we got to chat with her about the international exchange student experience, and we will definitely miss her at Emporia State next semester!
During this week's episode, we reminisce about the growth we all went through as undergraduate students. It was a wholesome conversation about our journeys and we are so grateful that Farhan joined us!
It was last year when Mariela decided that it was not too late to learn English. She also decided that she needed to be in an environment where she would have to force herself to practice, which is why she is now one of our “Halfmester” students at Emporia State! The “Halfmester” program allowed her to come to our campus to immerse herself in the language through the Intensive English Program, where she is taking a full load of classes. Between writing, reading, and conversation classes, Mariela has gained the skills she needs to feel more comfortable with the language. She liked the program so much she even extended her stay for the remainder of the academic semester, so we are thrilled to share her story with you this week!
El año pasado Mariela decidió que no era tarde para aprender Inglés. También decidió que necesitaba estar en un entorno donde se tuviese que obligar a practicar, por lo cual ahora es una de nuestras estudiantes de “Halfmester” en Emporia State! El programa “Halfmester” le permitió venir por dos meses a nuestro campus a sumergirse en el idioma por través de las clases de Inglés intensivo. Entre las clases de escritura, lectura y conversación, Mariela ha desarrollado las herramientas necesarias para sentirse cómoda con el idioma. Es más, se sintió tan a gusto con el programa que decidió extender su estadía por el resto del semestre académico, por lo que estamos muy emocionados de compartir su historia esta semana!
Cycy shared with us the exact moment she found out her collegiate athlete career was (supposedly) over amidst a pandemic, miles and miles from home. She reminded us the power of adaptability, and how sometimes things are just meant to be. From participating in a contest hosted by the Office of International Education to winning a full-ride scholarship, Anita has had an outstanding journey at Emporia State! Paula is an undergraduate student from Guatemala City, Guatemala, double majoring in Physics and Math.
