In this episode, I spend a little time reflecting on the state of football in Colorado. This includes an autopsy the NFL's Denver Broncos were literally stampeded at Hard Rock Stadium yesterday by the Miami Dolphins, 70-20!
The pro football franchise is on life support as it crawls out of the stadium's crevice in hopes of finding a victory in winless Chicago next weekend. While a somber podcast episode (for Colorado fans), it does provide glimmers of hope with fair-minded perspective on what remains possible in this still-early football season for both the CU Buffaloes who got trounced Saturday by the Oregon Ducks (as expected) and the hapless Broncos.
Also, Colorado State got its first win against Middle Tennessee State! Yay!

In this episode, I briefly share my thoughts on the hype machine that drives interest in live action adaptations of comics on the small screen or feature films. I remain amazed at how amped the buzz can be for comic book adaptations relative to the final product.
The comic book adaptation hype goes back to the early 2000s when Sam Raimi's Spider-Man changed the game for the comic book movie genre. It also contributed to the unrealistic expectations propelled by fanatics like me that want to see as close to perfect as possible with live action adaptations of favorite comic book characters and comic book story arcs.

In this episode, I try to make sense of all the conference realignment madness including the mass exodus of major "Power 5" programs out of the Pac 12 conference. West Coast powers like Oregon and Utah are joining USC and UCLA on the move eastward to the Midwest and Deep South regions.
The video mainly just reflects on the chaos affecting the Big 12, Big 10 and the now seemingly defunct Pac 12 conference. Among several questions heading into the 2023-24 college football season, a lingering question will be what happens to the four remaining Pac 12 schools: Cal, Oregon State, Stanford, and Washington State. It seems that two of the four may have a new conference by next weekend.
Unfortunately, the episode ends before I could ponder the potential implications for all college sports in these conferences. What do you think will be the long-term impact of these conference realignments? Can a coast-to-coast Big 10 conference thrive beyond football? Will the new Big 12 dominate college basketball for the next generation? Will anyone care?

In this episode, I give my review of #theflash movie right out of the theaters. I also reflect on the fun I had watching #spidermanacrossthespiderverse. Both films were multiverse-level stories with tons of action and real stakes for its key characters.
These two films also reminded me of the Multiverse Saga that we're supposed to get from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While many of the MCU films have saved the movie industry, I don't think they've quite delivered a multiverse-like story that matters. At least not yet.

In this episode, I reflect on the end of the 2022-23 school year by revisiting projections from research published in the mid-2010s about an impending college enrollment cliff. The projected freefall in college enrollment was expected around the mid-2020s onward.
Obviously a lot has happened over the last 7 or 8 years, which has significantly affected all aspects of U.S. society including the state of its colleges and universities. I briefly explore the actual and projected enrollment data, and speculate on what might be the catalyst for this potential crisis.

In this episode, I explore some of the recent challenges facing the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It's been an up and down few years for arguably Hollywood's most successful franchise/shared universe.
Recent changes in leadership, departure of talent, legal troubles for high profile stars and moderately successful-to-subpar films/TV shows represent major challenges to the long term popularity of the beloved MCU. Fans are understandably worried as Phase 5 is off to a rough start, e.g. (Quantumania).
While these challenges present opportunities, it's unclear whether Marvel can take the needed steps to right the ship.

In this episode, I share my thoughts on the annual International Education Week in the US and more than 100 countries. Colleges and universities appear to be slowly returning to pre-COVID levels for student mobility - in some areas. Other areas, e.g., U.S. students studying abroad might need more time.
Overall, I think it's reasonable to be cautiously optimistic about the future of international education. The future of international education contains some interesting unknowns with great opportunities and significant challenges.

In this episode, I give my thoughts on the teaching crisis a NYU. Dr. Maitland Jones, Jr., a professor of organic chemistry at NYU, was fired after more than 80 students from his 350-student course signed a petition complaining about this grading and teaching. Jones is an authority in his field after teaching organic chemistry a Princeton University for 40 years.
His dismissal from NYU opened a can of worms about college teaching at a time when US higher education has both a perception problem and enrollment problem. I think this situation, while embarrassing, is an opportunity to raise the level of conversation about college teaching in a way that brings together different perspectives.

My quick reaction to the new Wakanda Forever trailer, which dropped today. It evaporated any doubts I had about the MCU going forward.
I briefly opine on how this trailer affirms my belief that this film, which is to be released on November 11, will not only set the table for a thrilling Phase 5, but introduce at least one character (Namor) that will be in the MCU indefinitely or as long as Kevin Feige/Tenoch Huerta can go.
Corrections: 1. I referenced Marvel's page for "Wakanda vs Atlantis" when the page is actually "Black Panther and Namor: A Tale of Two Kings." 2. Towards the end of segment, I indicated that the trailer was two minutes and 14 seconds when it was two minutes and 11 seconds. 3. In my excitement I forgot to comment on Dominique Thorne's "Riri Williams/Ironheart" which was amazing to see in the trailer! I'm super-hyped to see where they take the character in this film and beyond.
Overall, Wakanda Forever looks primed to throttle the box office records next month!!

In this episode, I give a sobering yet optimistic reflection on phase 4 of the Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe and where I hope they're taking us for phases 5 & 6.

My recap of the excitement from Marvel Studios' presentation at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel unleashes a real multiverse of madness by announcing the Multiverse Saga story arc, an unveiling the end of Phase 4 and introduction of Phases 5 and 6.

In this episode, I reflect on some recent articles that highlighted the pending enrollment challenge for higher education in the U.S. One particular article discussed the use of analytics as a strategy to combat the coming enrollment calamity resonated with me. I also reference some innovative examples in emerging economies that might be worth emulating.
Is the US higher education community up to the challenge posed by the aftereffects of the Great Recession, COVID-19, inflation, etc.? I think so, but time will tell...

Check out my thoughts on the Golden State Warriors putting the Boston Celtics in a sleeper hold from Games 4-6 to wrap up the 2022 NBA Finals. As predicted, Curry was the MVP and Wiggins was indispensable. At the end of the day, it was the Warriors D that put the Cs to sleep for the summer!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) seems to be crushing it with Phase 4, but where exactly are they taking us? Where's the big payoff in consuming all this great, seemingly connected content?!
This episode highlights the challenge for US college campuses to balance the protection of students' freedom of speech with the need to foster diversity, equity and inclusion. Recent headwinds from media reports and recent survey data suggest that campus leaders (administrators and faculty) have their hands full with this issue!
