Homemaking will never be easy. It will never be immediately fruitful or less tiresome and mundane. The Building A Storehouse podcast is designed to remind you of the joy, ignite your desire to move forward and embrace the work God has put before you. Let's quit the game of "who has it worse?" and get back to the business of homemaking.
How is it possible that we can feel called to spend more time at home, but fear it at the same time?
In this episode, I'm talking about how it REALLY felt to become a full-time homemaker, as someone who really loves to work.
Get inside my mind and my journal in this episode of the Building A Storehouse podcast!
We want to have a tidy house, but we have too much stuff.
We want to declutter but we don't want to seem ungrateful.
We want our kids to appreciate what they have but also have an abundance.
In this episode, I'm taking you through 5 common dilemmas we go through as we think through what it actually looks like to declutter.
My goal for you for this episode is to take you from feeling guilty about getting rid of things you've been so graciously given to feeling confident as the gatekeeper of your home.
You know how some days you say to yourself 'what the heck is going on right now.' Because everything is spinning out of control?
Yeah, I don't have a solution for that.
What I DO have a solution for are the moments when you feel manipulated into making decisions or when you feel you need to be manipulative in order to get what you need.
I have a solution for if you feel like you haven't yet established your own voice inside your head instead of your mom & dad's.
I have a solution for you if you want to feel as free to say yes as you do to say no when someone asks something of you...even if it's your spouse, your parents, your kids, your church, or your boss.
You need boundaries.
In this episode, I'm teaching through a summary of the book Boundaries, by Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. John Townsend.
Even after just listening to this episode, you'll begin to see the same transformation I did, when I started listening to those pings of violation of my property, mental, physical, or emotional. You'll stop feeling guilty and start feeling FREE.
We've all been there:
And what makes it more frustrating is that when you actually find the motivation to cook a decent meal for your family, it was stressful to prep, stressful to eat, and stressful to clean up.
But you understand how important simple living is and cooking dinner for your family, is part of the job description. Where does the inspiration and motivation come from though?
'Cause it ain't coming from those full plated dinners created in immaculate kitchens on Instagram!
In episode 008 of Building A Storehouse, I'm diving into 3 tips to get your booty back in the kitchen, utensils in hand!
Becoming a mother doesn't derail your life, it opens up your view of the tracks.
And that's what many women fear when planning for a family. There's an underlying uncertainty about how having children will affect their current lifestyle.
Truth: Having children will affect your current lifestyle.
Myth: Having children is a burden to your lifestyle.
Listen in my good friend Nina Pundt and I swap stories about how we, while both homemakers rooted in Christ, approach planning for our families very differently.
And, even if you're not in the season of life where you're having children, we're pretty confident you'll get some good laughs to bring some cheer to your day!
Once you have a child, you will never NOT be a mother ever again. Likewise, your husband will never NOT be a father ever again.
That means this is a lifelong gig. That means we can give ourselves grace, learn, relearn, and again, relearn what it means to
be a parent. But in this episode, we’re focusing solely on fathers, specifically, the father of our children, Chase Rangel.
He’s not one to open up when he’s unsure of the circumstances so to have him on this show is truly special.
I hope you enjoy his dry sense of humor, his honest heart, and his personal fatherhood experience in this episode 006 of the Building A Storehouse podcast.
When is it going to end? When are we going to FINALLY get back to the way we were designed to function?
We were designed to work to live, not live to work. Because there's so much pleasure to be had outside of work!
In rhythms. Not in stress. Not in overwhelm. Not in fully packed schedules.
If you're living to work instead of working to live, you have the power to turn it off. And yes, it's that easy.
But until we learn to recognize WHEN we are in that state of living to work, and the effects that it has on our relationships and ourselves, we won't be able to level out the intensity.
In this episode, I'm giving you 5, not the exclusive 5, but 5 warning signs that you might be experiencing because you're living to work instead of working to live.
What would you do if you couldn’t “just look it up” anymore?
It would take a lot longer that’s for sure! But the good news is that we have time to make mistakes and learn from them.
In episode 003 of the Building A Storehouse Podcast, we’re leaning into what we don’t know, learning to love learning again, and enjoying the process of figuring it out.
It’s entirely likely that you’re scared of the mundane work at home. And it’s not the work itself, it’s the amount of time you’ll spend on said work.
For example, you’ll spend approximately 182 hours doing dishes, just this year!
While it’s easy to look at those minutes as wasted, it’s entirely more life-giving to look at those minutes as opportunities.
And the most fulfilling things we can do each day are those that marry that which ignites us with that which helps others.
In episode 001 of Building A Storehouse, I’m digging into those fears, how I’ve overcome them, and the mindset shift that has turned me into a homemaker rather than a stay-at-home mom.
Did you know that it’s not even the act of the sit-n-scroll that’s derailing your days? It might just be the messaging!
Did you also know that the same training methods runners use: inactive rest vs. active rest can EASILY be translated to our lives as homemakers?
Going from productivity to rest is a cycle, it’s not an on/off switch. It’s a fast run to a slow jog, not a fast run to a sudden stop.
The way we move from productivity to rest is what we’re talking about in episode 002 of the Building A Storehouse Podcast.
