I swear Laeg knows what the phone is, because usually he freezes when I try to take a video. So I'm super happy I actually got to film him swimming around a little bit today! :)

Hello friends! I finally finished my aquarium remodel after a long time. I was originally going to make the satined glass into a new lid, but the glue came undone several times and then I broke a piece, and I was afraid that was too dangerous to use as a lid, because what if it broke and fell inside the tank? So instead I made panels to go on the skinny sides of the tank. They were very reflective, and I thought it would look pretty as well as diffuse the light somewhat and stop the reflection. Shocker: it didn't stop the mirror effect! Nor did window clings. Only stickers with actual stickyness on them did, so I stickered the small sides and then put the glass over that, held in place with Command strips. :)

I hope the boys enjoy their remodeled home! Thank you for watching. :)

Hellooooooooooo friends, Yuan is back choosing the winners of the Share Some Hope Contest! Congrats to first place @danigada18 who wins 300 Ecency points, 2 HSBI, and 1 Hive sent to @dustsweeper for your account, and to second place @nabbas0786 who wins 200 Ecency points and 2 HSBI!

While sending out prizes, I realized that 23 days ago I MESSED UP and sent the dustsweeper prizes incorrectly! My apologies to @shamis and @mandysmoon who won that time, your dustsweeper has finally been sent the CORRECT way, and you should have received a note in your wallet showing it. I'm so sorry, it had been a long time since I sent dustsweeper to anyone else and I thought I remembered how, but I was wrong. D'oh!

Thanks to everyone who entered, and stay tuned for the next contest! :)

Hello friends! Sorry for the delay getting this post out, Yuan judged the humans yesterday and I sent the prizes, but then I fizzled out and didn't get it posted (woo, chronic fatigue and brain fog). Apologies! But without further ado, here are the winners for the Share Your Favorites Contest!

In first place, we have @mysteriousroad, who wins 3 HSBI and 500 Ecency points, and in second place, @danigada18, who wins 2 HSBI and 250 Ecency points. Congrats! Since we only had three entries total, I went ahead and also sent 1 HSBI to @untilwelearn for a runner up prize. :)

Thanks everyone for participating and stay tuned for the next contest! :)

I see a lot of content on social media that is ☼pretty, aesthetic☼ organizing, where people buy all of these cool organizers from IKEA or Container Store or wherever so their pantries and closets look ♦satisfying♦, and that's all well and good if that's your motivation, but I think putting the emphasis on matchy-matchy, "professional" looking organization is wasteful, both in money and in resources, since most people already have some containers they can probably use.

Here I am showing you a lot of things that I use to organize, including cat litter buckets, vinyl bags that blankets or something came in, old schoolbags, gift boxes, food containers, etc.

I'm not saying the purpose-bought containers don't have their place (I show you a few I have at the beginning), but don't let it trip you up when you are trying to declutter and organize thinking that you should get these things first. Do the decluttering part, see what's left, and then make your decisions on if you really need something new, or if you have enough things you can use to organize your space already. Often, part of your clutter is also part of your solution! :)

Hello friends! We're gonna try this upload a second time because I did this two days ago and scheduled it to post and it didn't. It still says it's scheduled to do so over three hours ago. I've never attempted to schedule a post on 3Speak before, and there seems to be no way to revert to draft either, so I guess not doing that again!

But here's the new Clean With Me. The idea behind CWMs is to motivate/keep you company while you clean. I watch them on That Other Video Site all the time, and wasn't seeing anyone make them here, so I started making my own. I hope you find them helpful like I do! :)

Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Since there were only two entries to the Photo Scavenger Hunt Contest, I went ahead and made a second place winner too. The winner of 5 HSBI is @mimster, and in second place for 2 HSBI is @mysteriousroad. Congrats and thanks for entering the contest! :)

I put double treats on each entry this time, since Yuan deserves a reward for his hard work! More of you should enter my next contest. Yuan says. ;)

Hello friends and welcome to another Clean With Me video! As I've said before I like watching these myself because it helps motivate me to get my chores done, or gives me focus while I'm working. So I started making my own since I didn't see anyone else doing it here on 3Speak! :)

I just spent HOURS editing this video in a different style, lol, but I think it turned out better this way than my usual way. Please let me know what you think!

The video is about 20 minutes with no music. There are captions in English, except for one part where I actually am speaking in the clip.

Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day! :)

Need a friend to keep you company while you clean? Join me and let's do our chores together! We can keep each other company and help maintain focus. :)

¿Necesitas un amigo que te haga compañía mientras limpias? ¡Únete a mí y hagamos nuestras tareas juntos! Podemos hacernos compañía y ayudar a mantener el enfoque. :)

I started making Clean With Me videos because I like to watch them myself on That Other Video Site That Shall Not Be Named, and I saw that no one was making them here on 3Speak. They help motivate me when I am having trouble starting, or keep my focus while I'm working. There's nothing like watching a video of a super dirty space get really clean to make me want to do the same for my own home! If you just like some company while you work, videos are good for that too. I often put one on when I've already started and I'm doing something quiet and sitting down like folding laundry.

Today's video is about 27 minutes, and is just the sound of me working (and fans running, it's been hot here, lol). There are captions in English talking about what I'm doing here and there.

El video de hoy dura aproximadamente 27 minutos, y es solo el sonido de mi trabajo (y los fanáticos corriendo, hace calor aquí, jajaja). Hay subtítulos en inglés que hablan de lo que estoy haciendo aquí y allá.

Thanks for watching! :)

¡Gracias por ver! :)

Bettas like fun things to do, they watch you when you're around the aquarium and can learn to play games and tricks, so I had the idea to get a toy train set and put it around the aquarium!

I hope that Laeg enjoys watching it run around. My inner child is super happy about it. :)

Hello my fellow aquarium nerds! :) I got my new plants (and a few other things) from Aquarium Co-op, so I made an unboxing video.

I wanted to add more plants to the tank because CuChulainn (the betta) often flares at Macha (one of the two nerite snails; he mostly leaves Sanglainn alone), and I think it's stressful for both of them. He really only does it when she's up on the glass, and not when she's on plants, decorations, or the gravel, so I think maybe if there are more plants around it will help. a) there will be more things in the way of him catching sight of her when she is on the glass, especially where I plan to put the fast growing tall one; b) there will be more things for all of them to interact with and be entertained; and c) the snails will have more hiding spots as things grow in.

In addition, the theory goes that if I have more plants sucking up nutrients, I should be able to turn the lights up a bit in order to get more reds on my two red plants (red root floaters and rose Amazon swords already in the tank), which currently, if I turn up the lights high enough to really bring out that color, I get an algae explosion. I haven't worried about it too much because hey, free snail food - but it's a very fast reaction so if we could temper it a bit that would be great. Also, the algae (black beard algae, particularly) grew on the roots of my red root floaters, and I think it's actually hindering their growth?

Anyway, now that I have animals in the tank, I am quarantining the new plants for a bit to make sure I don't have any hitchhikers on them. ACO has a good reputation and good reviews so I'm not expecting anything bad, but just to be safe!

What kinds of plants do you keep in your aquariums? With these new additions, I will have: pothos, lucky bamboo, marimo moss balls, red root floaters, Anubias (the large one), rose Amazon swords, and now Anubias nana petitie, cryptocoryne parva, and aponogeton crispus. :)

When being tested, I can clock typing at 100wpm, but I'm sure I was going slower here since I was just making it up as I typed rather than copying text as fast as I could, lol.

Hello friends! I'm doing a water change tonight for my aquarium, so I thought I would do a little explainer video. I'm still cycling the tank (I ramble about that a bit in the video, lol), but I'm doing a water change because my ammonia levels have been so high.

Here is the video from Aquarium Co-op that I mentioned that teaches you how to start the vacuum if your gravel vacuum does not have a sqeeze bulb part like mine has, and how to vacuum sand instead of just gravel like I have:

Do y'all have any aquariums? Show me a photo in the comments! :D

Hey friends! I thought I would make a little video showing off the aquarium tank I've been setting up so that I can bring home a betta and some snail friends to join Yuan and I in the apartment. :) It's a ten gallon tank - best advice is you want at least 5 gallons for a betta, but 10 is even better, especially if you want to give them tank mates (don't put them in little bowls!). I'm thinking I am going to go with Nerite snails for their tank mates. I'm also loosely contemplating a small number of tetras, as a lot of people say they make good tank mates for bettas too, but I haven't made up my mind yet. Maybe in the future. :)

I forgot to show you when I was showing all my gear that yes, I do have a gravel vacuum for water changes and cleaning. I've done three water changes during this cycling time so far, mostly because of the sitnky smell that I think is mostly due to the Amazon Sword plant melting (rotting plant bits in water would be smelly). But I think it's done melting and so hopefully will recover.

Thanks for checking out my fish tank as I work to get it ready for them. It makes me happy. :)

Hello friends! I'm back with another study with me video. I had some technical difficulties with this one - I used my new phone to record for the first time. I set it on the shelf next to my desk at first, and it tilted a couple of times to angle away from what I was doing, and then fell over completely, lol. Then the phone stopped recording at around 26 minutes (I was trying to do a half hour session)! I didn't even realize any of this because I had headphones on listening to my own study video to help me focus, and only discovered it when my alarm went off and I saw that it was all wonky. So for the second session, I set the phone on a tripod at a much better angle, and everything was fine ...until it stopped recording again at 26 minutes. I don't know if there's a time limit on video recordings, but I'll have to figure it out.

So anyway, this video is an hour, including the ten minute break, but the study/break/study times are not exact. I cut the first session where the phone fell over, the break is more like 10.5 minutes than exactly ten, and the second session cuts off where the phone stopped recording. All total it adds up to 59 minutes and 44 seconds, but it's not a precise 25 min study/10 min break/25 min study. Hopefully I get this figured out!

Also, there's fan noise because it was 100 degrees Fahrenheit today (38 degrees Celcius). Heh!

Hey friends! So the United States is turning off 3G cell towers this year - AT&T's are already off - and I had to get a new phone because my previous phone only went up to 3G. So I saw a review for the Xiaomi sub-brand Poco X4 Pro 5G that really got me interested - basically, I could get a lot more phone for the price of a much simpler one. Now I'm not real techy with the phone specs, but my previous phone only went up to 16GB of memory and this one has 128GB (there was a model with double that but I got the smaller one); my previous phone had just regular camera lenses at 13MP for the main and 5MP for the selfie; this one has three cameras on the back at 108MP for the main and 16MP for the selfie plus an ultrawide and macro lens (have never had those on a phone before!). So this is definitely feeling very fancy for me. :)

The review I initially saw that made me look into this phone was from Mrwhosetheboss on YouTube, where he was basically saying that it was possibly as close as you could get to a flagship phone at a discount phone price. Xiaomi phones aren't really marketed in the US - I could find it on EBay or Amazon, but not at Best Buy, for example - and as you'll see in the video, the phone store that I bought it from included a US adapter separate from the original packaging because the phone doesn't come with a US-plug charger. But it should work with my carrier (about to switch over my SIM card today), so I'm down to try a new brand (and charge it like I'm traveling internationally, hee hee) for a better phone!

If you're wondering, this phone cost me $292, or $318 with tax. The Samsung phone I was looking at before I found this one was $250 before tax with 64GM memory and a 50MP main camera (the Galaxy A13 5G) - so I'd say I seriously upgraded for 40 bucks more.

Hey friends! So if you read my blog you might remember a while back I bought two cans of what might be considered "prepper" food, that is, powdered eggs and powdered butter. I got them partly because the supply chain is borked right now and since they have a long shelf life I thought it was a good idea to keep on hand. At the beginning of the pandemic, a lot of perishables were in short supply and that's mostly better now but there are still weird little spurts of things going out of stock at stores. Also, I just don't use eggs very often and they often will be in my fridge for months before I use up a dozen, so I thought this might be a better everyday thing for my infrequent egg use anyway.

So I used the powdered eggs in this new-to-me recipe (a winging it recipe that I got the idea from a Tiktok video that did not mention ratios or measurements at all, so you can see I was just eyeballing it), and the eggs tasted great, just like any other baked or scrambled egg. You reconstitute them with equal parts water, and 1/6 cup is one egg, so in this video I used 1/4 cup which turned out to be too much for this recipe (it was supposed to be chicken nuggets, it was more like a very packed chicken omlette or frittata). But it still tasted good!

So if you were ever wondering if "prepper" food was actually decent or just gross, so far the eggs are a win. Haven't tried the butter yet. Still have lots of that in my fridge! :)

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who encounters this and is like WHY THO?!

It's not even brand specific because that's Wellness Signature Selects, and other cans from Wellness fit the lids just fine.

Tiki Cat has some cans that are the off size too, as I recall, but others of that brand also fit.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Ok, just had to have a rant about it. ;)

Hello beefriends! Spring has sprung here in the northern hemisphere, and though it is WAY too early to begin planting outside where I live, I wanted to get my balcony cleaned up and sorted. When I moved into this apartment in October/November, my balcony became this last minute catchall as it was a big open space that I wasn't really using during the winter months. Yes, some "inside" things got snowed on that I normally would not have kept outside, and I ended up throwing some things out (including two old litterboxes since Yuan seems content with the current setup of just one big one in New Apartment).

So this was more of a spring cleaning than a "garden set up," for two main reasons: 1) it's too cold to garden outside yet and 2) I couldn't find the wingnuts to put the table back together. LOL! Yes, I did the thing when I moved in and the wingnuts to hold the table legs on were sitting out on a box, I said, "let me put these away someplace safe so I don't lose them in the moving chaos" and then ...I lost them in the moving chaos. I have no idea where that "safe place" is at the moment. Hopefully I figure it out. xD

But it was perfect timing for The Minimalist community's spring cleaning/declutter contest, so I made a little time lapse of my work! I didn't take photos of what went in the trash/recycling as I was just running it out and not touching my phone with dirty hands, but there was some decluttering, as well as general organization. :)

Once I have the table put back together and it's warm enough to fill some of those plant pots with soil, it will look a bit more cozy I hope, but for now, it's at least cleaned up and organized, even if the chairs are still stacked and the table is on it's side and the plant pots are in a heap on the little red wagon. ;)

So please enjoy my little time lapse video of photos! You'll see it really was chaotic when I started.

And yes, Yuan was a good helper! He always cheers me on. He didn't stay outside for long, though - as I said, it's still a bit nippy out, though it did at least get into the 60s (fahrenheit!) today!

Oh! And if you've never seen me post about my balcony garden - I also have the statue garden out there that I do, so that is why there are some statues that need repair in one of the last photos in the time lapse. They all probably need a wash, too, but for now most of them are on the air conditioner's outside part, except for the large/heavy/broken ones. Statue repair is on my to-do list, as well.

This is Against The Galileans by Julian, the Roman emperor, translated by Wilmer Cave Wright. It is a work in the public domain (both the original and the translation). I am reading from here: https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Against_the_Galileans

Emperor Julian was raised Christian but left the church and converted to Paganism (ergo he is sometimes called "Julian the Apostate"). He wrote this treatise speaking against Christianity (he calls Christians, "Galileans"). I first was recommended this book as a paperback on Amazon, which quickly went out of stock before I bought it, and the rare copies in print I could find on ebay are hella expensive (and usually in a larger compendium type work). So I went looking for it online and found it on Wikisource, since it's public domain. Subsequently I didn't notice any audiobook copies of this either, so I was inspired to read it aloud for anyone who needs or prefers an audio format and wants to access this text.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional, and I do not own professional equipment. I make mistakes, I say "excuse me" sometimes when I make a mistake, I mispronounce some of the proper nouns, and the simple headset you see in the photo is what I used to record myself reading. Please don't flame me for this being an imperfect copy; I'm just trying to make it more accessible, even though I am flawed. :)

Also note, there are some fragments on the website where I am reading from that I did not read aloud because they are really just a few lines here and there out of context. There is an incomplete record of this work, mostly strung together from quotes used in other works referencing it; we don't have a complete copy of it by itself. Ergo, what I am reading is "book one," but there were no further books past that (except for the fragments).

Hello again cleaning friends! I hope y'all are having a good day. I'm back with another Clean With Me video, which, if you're unfamiliar, are (hopefully) motivating to help you get your cleaning work done, too! I enjoying watching them on That Other Video site, and when I tried looking for some here on 3speak, I couldn't find any, so I decided to try making some. I find that they help me to either watch while I work, or to motivate me to get off my duff and start working, lol. So I hope you find these helpful, as well!

This video is 25 minutes, and has background music as well as ambient sounds of my working. I have been editing these a lot more for the past couple videos, so it's more of a mashup of multiple different tasks and less one lengthy run on one task.

Let's work together! :)

Music: all public domain

Hey friends! So I have been trying to cope by Doing Stuff (if you didn't see my post, I recently lost my kitty Maggie), which means that for the past two days I've been cleaning and arranging my apartment. So I made another Clean With Me video, and thought it turned out pretty well except that I have no idea what the hey is up with the sound. Water sounds screechy? What is that about? If anyone more techie than me knows, please tell me! I understand when sound gets weird when I speed things up but it was happening in 1x speed. SIGH

Anyway, hopefully that's not too obnoxious, and you can find some benefit from a little cleaning inspo. I enjoy CWM videos myself, which is why I started making some.

I did a little more than just clean in this video, so you'll see me doing things like watering plants and making lunch, too. Let me know how you feel about the new format!

Hello friends! I'm back with another Clean With Me video. If you haven't seen these before, the idea is that you play the video while you clean too, and it's like cleaning with a friend; alternatively, you watch the video and it motivates you to get off your duff and start cleaning! LOL. At least those are the two ways I watch them on That Other Video Site. I didn't see any here on 3Speak when I looked, so I decided to start making some. I hope they help motivate you, too! :)

This one is a half an hour, with mellow music (lofi I guess? I'm not exactly sure what qualifies something as lofi, lol). It's at 2x speed.

Maggie makes an appearance at the beginning of the sweeping segment. >^.^< In this video I scrub the bathroom sink, sweep, do the dirty dishes, and clean up in the kitchen.

Thanks for watching! :)

Hello study buddies! Here is my second Study With Me video, this time a half hour long. I found a headset with a microphone on it and got it worked out so there is no more loud fan sound in this one, hooray! ;)

I find watching Study With Me and Clean With Me videos help me focus/motivate me, so I thought I would try making some. :) I'm trying these at different lengths, so you can choose the one that matches the length of time you would like to study.

There's a Maggie meow just past 13 minutes I think it was, when I paused to help her up on the papasan which is beside my desk. Kitty alert! >^.^<

Hello, friends! Here is my first Study With Me video. I enjoy working with these as they help motivate me and keep me focused, so I hope it helps you, too!

This video is one hour long and has no music. Apologies that my laptop fan is kinda loud, both audio and video are taken with my laptop as I don't have an external microphone. Maybe I should add one to "things I'd like to buy with my 365 Savings Challenge money when I'm done," lol.

Today I am studying French! Let me know what you are studying in the comments! :)

I took this video back in the old apartment but I never uploaded it here, silly hooman that I am. This is how Queen Maggie wakes me up in the morning - demanding her noms (Yuan usually leans on my head and purrs). I promise I feed them like 5 times a day. They get the same amount, but she's a skinny mini and he's a chonk. ;)
