In James final section of Scripture, he teaches about prayer. Pray when you have trouble, pray when you are happy, pray when you are sick, pray for those who are lost. He says that the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective.
We all face hardships and difficult situations in life. In this passage, James shows how to face those tough times in our life. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy, and we don't have to walk through these times alone.
In this passage, James talks about slander, arrogant planning, and riches. When we are walking in pride and in our flesh, what gets manifested is slander, boasting in our self-made plans, and trusting in money for security and satisfaction. But when we fix our minds on Christ and who we are in Him, our speech is uplifting, we trust in God's plan for our lives, and He is our security and satisfaction.
In this episode, James teaches us that there are 2 kinds of wisdom: an unspiritual, earthly, demonic type of wisdom and the wisdom that is from above (comes from God). As we walk in the Spirit and are guided by God's wisdom there will be certain characteristics manifested through us: peace-loving, consideration of others, mutual submission, mercy, impartiality, and sincerity.
In this episode, James shows us the power of our words. Our speech can influence the direction of our lives, destroy our lives and the lives of others, and bring life and healing to ourselves and others.
Pastor Steve Alberts dives into Acts 17 and how Paul makes the argument that this is my Father's world. He is the Creator of all things. He has authority, and we can trust Him as our loving Father and Creator. This gives us meaning and purpose.
In this episode, James discusses faith and works. He says that faith without works is dead and that we are justified by works. How does that reconcile with Paul and being justified by grace alone? What does it mean to say that faith without works is dead? Well, it doesn't mean "no faith," and yes, we are justified by grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone.
In this episode, James shows us that showing favoritism and discrimination are inconsistent with who we are as new creations in Christ. As we live out our faith, it will lead to actions that show love to all people.
James teaches us that there is an outworking of our salvation that will lead us to control our speech, help helpless people, and keep us from being influenced by the ways of the world.

James teaches us that when we face trials to count them as joy because they develop perseverance. As we persevere through trials with our eyes fixed on Jesus, He uses them to show us that our Life is found in Him and not in our situations and circumstances.

It's not about the storm you are in or the chaos it brings, it's about the God who calms the storm and brings order to chaos. Jesus commanded Peter to come to him on the water during a huge storm. He had to trust Jesus. What do you need to trust Jesus with today as He tells you to come as well?

Does God really care about the suffering of His children? (Tidings of Great Joy series #1)
Luke's Gospel account of Jesus doesn't start off like most biographies. Instead of beginning with the birth of Jesus, Luke tells us about another baby... promised to an elderly priest and His barren wife. In this passage, we see how God cared for the suffering of individuals while also preparing for the salvation of the world!
This sermon was preached as part of our Tidings of Great Joy series on 11/27/22 during our 11:00 AM Modern Worship Service.
As we close out our work Life message series this Sunday, let's talk about work and money. Money is certainly getting a lot of attention in the media right now, and it's on a lot of our minds as we deal with inflation, a possible recession, and Christmas coming soon. What are we supposed to think about these things? What is the biblical perspective of work and money, and how do we deal with our changing economy?
This sermon was preached as part of our work Life series on 11/20/22 during our 11:00 AM Modern Worship Service.
Over the last few weeks, we have been talking about how work is good, but sometimes work can leave us exhausted, stressed, agitated, and even cause us to experience medical problems. What do we do in situations like this? Is there a way out? Is it possible to work hard and not feel so drained, depleted, and depressed like we sometimes do?
This sermon was preached as part of our work Life series on 11/13/22 during our 11:00 AM Modern Worship Service.
Practical ways that our work brings glory to God.

Work is a big part of our lives, but is work our life? How do we handle the pressures of comparing ourselves to others, proving ourselves through our work, and earning our identity through achievement?
Did you know the average person spends 90,000 hours of their life working??? That's a lot of time to spend in our lives working at a job or in a career! How do we approach our work as Christians? Is it something we do just to pay the bills? Do we work for the weekend? Is the goal to be able to retire? Or is it something more?
I believe that it is something more! Way more! So, this Sunday we are going to start a brand-new message series called work Life, and we are going to dive into Scripture to see if it has anything to say about the 90,000 hours of time we spend working throughout our lifetimes. Here's a hint: it does!
This week, we learn about serving our immediate neighbors through seeing Paul's example in the early church.
As we continue our series, we see the communal nature of our Life in Christ. We see how God is building us into a spiritual house and how each believer plays an important role in the church.
Who is my neighbor? In our first week, we are focusing on identifying and serving our neighbors by performing Spirit-led acts of kindness to show people God's love for them! Also, we are providing Kindness Cards that you can hand out as the Holy Spirit leads you to serve someone during the week!

Taking a breaking from our "Next Steps" series this Labor Day weekend, our message is brought by our Outreach & Missions Pastor, Dr. Aaron Glover. As we are resting from our labors physically, we see a spiritual parallel taught to us in Scripture: God is calling us to REST FROM our works, and to REST IN His works.
After you discover Life in Christ, your Next Step is to Connect through life with others! This, Pastor Jason explores several ways that the Holy Spirit leads us to connect with others and to "do life" with them.

What is your next step? In Galatians 5:25, the apostle Paul says, Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our Guide, and He is constantly leading us to take the next step on our journey with Him through dependence. Beginning this Sunday, we will begin a new message series on "Next Steps."
