🔴 Hip Hop culture has undeniably helped create a 'tanned' America, where traditional racial and demographic boundaries are increasingly blurred.

This "mind-set" transcends basic classifications, focusing instead on shared values and aspirations.

Originating as a countercultural movement, it has become a universal language that values authenticity and self-expression, influencing how we think and interact.

In this episode, I share some insights into how people and most importantly, businesses must adapt.

Marketers who fail to adapt to the 'tanning effect' and the resulting shift in marketing strategies risk becoming culturally obsolete,

Missing the opportunity to authentically connect with an increasingly diverse and value-driven consumer base.

Let me know what you think. Would love to hear your thoughts.

🔴 Hey Family,

In this weeks class I explored a framework that pushes the envelope in leadership and collaboration.

I believe that Linda Hill's 'Collective Genius' is a transformative framework that is setting new standards for what creative leadership can and should be.

Unlike traditional leadership theories, Collective Genius exceptionally concentrates on the community's role in innovation.

It contends that true groundbreaking solutions are born from ecosystems where problem-solving is a shared, collective endeavor.

This framework equips organizations to not just adapt but to be the architects of change.

If you're genuinely committed to staying ahead in innovation and creating a culture of collaborative brilliance

Take a listen.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

🔴 Hey Family,

Today, I am sharing this week's lecture from my Hip Hop Culture and New Economy class. I made a bold claim to the students when I argued that former president Franklin D. Roosevelt was a Hip Hop pioneer.

My students looked at me like I was nuts ...but that's okay.

I kinda like it...made the discussion a little more interesting.

Now, I understand that it may be a stretch, but let me explain...

Listen to the lecture and let me know your thoughts. I'd love to hear them.

🔴 Take a moment to understand the concept of a colorblind society, examining its origins, societal implications, and real-world impact on individuals.

Hey Family,

Ever wondered about the concept of a colorblind society and its impact on our daily lives?

In this episode, I get into this topic, exploring its origins, implications, and real-world impact.

Imagine opening a book only to find it filled with blank pages.

It has a title, it has a cover, but without words, it lacks meaning.

This is the analogy I draw from when talking about a colorblind society.

Here are some of the themes I discuss:
🔹 The Birth of a Colorblind Society
🔹 The Consequences of Colorblindness
🔹 The Real-World Impact
🔹 How We Moving Forward:

Join me on this journey of understanding as we fill in the blank pages of this societal narrative.

Let's learn, grow, and work towards a more inclusive society together.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

🔴 Exploring the destructive habit of constantly comparing ourselves to others, offering practical strategies to shift focus towards personal growth and self-improvement.

Hey Family,

In this episode, I take a deep dive deep into the concept of "comparison to others is the thief of joy."

We all know the feeling – seeing others succeed can sometimes cast a shadow over our own achievements. But it's time to change that perspective.

Here's what I cover in the episode:
✅ The pitfalls of constant comparison and how it robs us of our happiness.
✅ Why comparison isn't always bad – if used as a tool for growth and motivation.
✅ The benefits of competing with ourselves, setting personal goals, and celebrating our victories.
✅ The concept of "progress over perfection" and how it can boost our self-esteem.

The most important takeaway?

Your biggest competitor is the person staring back at you in the mirror.

Each day is an opportunity to be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday. Embrace progress, not perfection, as your goal.

Interested in learning more? I invite you to take a listen, apply the ideas, and share your experiences.

Let's turn comparison into motivation and make our reflections our only competition

Talk to you soon.

Much Love,
Dr. Jae

🔴 Exploring the history of race in higher education and the relentless fight for equality and access to education for all.

Hey Family,

Did you know that for centuries, higher education was reserved primarily for wealthy white men, with minority groups facing incredible challenges and legal barriers?

Despite these challenges, marginalized communities showed incredible determination and persistence, fighting for equal opportunities in education.

In this episode, I unpack my thoughts on the history of race in higher education and share some ideas on how we can work together to create change.

1️⃣ The exclusive origins of higher education: Limited access for minority groups in the early days.
2️⃣ The birth and impact of HBCUs: Pioneering institutions that provided opportunities for Black students.
3️⃣ Landmark legislation: Legal milestones that helped break down barriers in higher education.
4️⃣ Addressing achievement gaps: The struggle to ensure equal opportunities and success for all students.
5️⃣ Creating a more inclusive future: Strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

I would love for you to share your thoughts in hopes we can be in a dialogue on how we can be and do better.

Hey Family,

What I want to share with you today is how to stop what I have learned that many people, including myself, struggle with…and that is overthinking.

It’s a common habit among many people, and the worst part is that we all lose out on so many brilliant ideas and moments because of it.

Overthinking is constantly analyzing, ruminating, and worrying about a particular situation or event.

Fortunately, if any of this resonates with you, there are ways to stop overthinking and take action.

Here are some proven strategies I’ve used, and I believe they will help you overcome this habit, so stay with me.

Hey Family,

Today I want to share my thoughts on how to overcome self-doubt and reach your full potential.

As a professor, I frequently come across students and young professionals who struggle with the idea that they are not “good enough” or talented enough to keep up with our hyper-competitive society.

I must admit that I, too, struggle with self-doubt from time to time, so I figured I’d share some insight that may be helpful.

Hey Family,

I woke up this morning thinking about what I wanted to share with you today, and the first thing that came to mind was how I constantly ask myself, "what's next?"

You could say I am a bit of an "overachiever," but the reality is I rarely think about my achievements because I am always looking for the next challenge or in this weird competition with myself on how quickly I can reach the next goal.

If this is something you battle with, I have some thoughts on how we can be better at finding joy in the journey and appreciating life's lessons along the way.

Hey Family -

As we stand at the crossroads of understanding and action, the call has been made for us to confront the complex issue of racism in the U.S. I invite you to approach this journey with an open mind and, more importantly, an open heart.

Here, I've intentionally worked to create a safe space for shared growth and learning as we work together to embrace the complexities of race and racism in American society.

While our perspectives may diverge, my aim is to foster a meaningful dialogue on navigating a world that privileges one group while marginalizing others.

Let this space serve as a starting point for healing and growth, as together; we can strive for a deeper understanding and a commitment to be and do better.

Hey Family-

Success can often feel like an elusive and unattainable concept in today’s society. We’re bombarded with images of people living seemingly perfect lives on social media and constantly comparing ourselves to others.

But the truth is a success is a deeply personal concept, and defining it for yourself is key to living a fulfilling life.

Often, we get so caught up in chasing what we perceive as success that we forget to define it for ourselves.

Success can mean having a fulfilling career, a happy family, financial stability, good health, or positively impacting the world.

The point is it isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept. It’s something that we all need to define for ourselves and work towards in our own unique way.

Here are some ways that I believe can help you navigate defining your success and how to work toward it.

Hey Family -

I just published my first article introducing my new journal series Skin Deep: The Complexion of My America.

The concept of Skin Deep: The Complexion of My America invites you to examine the complexities of racism in America by looking beyond the surface of our diverse and colorful society.

The phrase "skin deep" serves as a powerful reminder that to address and dismantle racism in America truly, we must delve deeper, examining the underlying structures and attitudes that continue to perpetuate inequality.

Only by acknowledging and confronting these hidden complexities can we begin to build a more equitable and genuinely inclusive society.

I hope you join me on this journey...I'm confident it will be special.
