For those of you who know me or follow me on social media, you know that I go by Sabine The Purpose Lawyer. But where did that title come from? I honestly had no idea when I first came up with the name. It wasn’t until I started focusing on legacy planning as my main practice that the moniker really started to make sense for me and my mission. One of the most fulfilling parts of my job is being able to not only help people plan their legacies but also to provide some inspiration and guidance along the way. And that’s what we will be talking about today! Finding your purpose and finding ways to fulfill that purpose in your everyday life.

P.S. The book I mentioned during the episode with the oil anecdote is from “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.

There’s nothing to me like a true story that illustrates the need for proper estate planning. I get multiple calls and messages a week about situations that sound like they came right out of a telenovela. Today I'll be talking about a scenario that happened and was reported in the news recently. It’s not what I would call a happy story but it gives us the chance to examine the situation and learn about the importance of estate planning. It involves Ellen Degeneres’s ex-girlfriend, Anne Heche and her untimely passing at the age of 53. From this story, I’ll be answering these questions:

  1. Who is the right person to put in charge?
  2. How should I deal with complex family dynamics?
  3. Can I email my will?
  4. Will I get killed for my body parts? (haha just watch and find out why this question is asked)

I'll be using Aretha Franklin's estate as an example for why it's so important to have a legacy plan in place in order to avoid major delays and financial losses!

Hey friends! Welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast!

Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!  In today’s episode, we’ll be discussing a highly controversial topic everyone is talking about right now: Chadwick Boseman’s estate. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2020 without a legacy plan. As a result, the responsibility of dividing his assets rested on the shoulders of his wife and family at the discretion of California law. As expected, this resulted in a mountain of legal obstacles and financial losses that could have otherwise been avoided if Chadwick had a legacy plan. Now, let’s get into it exactly what happened.

Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

This week's episode will be short and sweet but I wanted to share something really cool with you guys. So, you know how I'm always talking about the importance of legacy and planning for the future? Well I just found out about this feature that Apple released with IOS 15.2 called Legacy Contact, which gives you the capability to set up contact(s) that would allow them access to information on your Apple device should something happen to you. So now whoever you'd like to be able to access your pictures or important documents can easily do so.

I remember reading a story about a billionaire who died with 500 MILLION in Crypto, but no one could access his data. Can you imagine? The digital revolution is here, whether you like it or not, and now Apple may have helped revolutionize how we share pass down our legacy. Now that's ambitious! I see you Apple!

This is NOT a paid promotion, but feel free to let Apple know ya girl would be happy to provide them with some insight!!

Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

So I pride myself on being a good attorney, and it really gets me heated when I hear stories of lawyers taking advantage of their clients by stealing, lying, and/or just straight up misrepresenting them. This week, I'm going to share with you two stories of clients who were taken advantage of by their attorneys and three tips on how to weed out the good from the bad, so you can prevent similar situations from happening to you or someone you know!

Speaking of good attorneys, for my guest this week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Rosezetta Upshaw Esq.! Having met Rosezetta through EYL Legal Club (shoutout to EYL!), I knew she was a force to be reckoned with and had to have her on my podcast!

Rosezetta is an award winning attorney, President of the Black Woman Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Inc., and a musician. Originally from the bay area, she represents clients from all over the globe and has been practicing law for over 10 years. She now has her own practice where she focuses on Business Law, IP law, Wealth Planning and Trusts. Rosezetta has always wanted to be an attorney, and has used her passion for the law to create initiatives and to be a part of communities like the Black Woman Lawyers Association of Los Angeles Inc., which is a huge community of attorneys that learn and grow together.

In addition, Rosezetta has been a pioneer in the legal community creating an initiative to help both attorneys and those in need of legal services, with her virtual legal clinic "Legends At Law". Rosezetta started Legends At Law during the height of the pandemic because legal clinics were shut down and people were unable to take advantage of free legal services that they normally would have access to. The virtual clinic also provides an opportunity for attorneys to collaborate, share resources, network, and essentially- to create a community of legendary attorneys. Now that's an ambitious legacy!

Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

I'm so excited to share with you guys that I will be hosting my first event, The Ambitious Legacy Event, on April 23rd at The Mezzanine in NYC! Tickets are on sale now!

The event will be focused on building a holistic legacy as it relates to relationships, spiritual health, finance, and mindset. The event will include panel discussions, networking, a fundraiser, food and cocktails, and so much more! You don't want to miss this opportunity to learn more about how you can build your ambitious legacy!

You can purchase your ticket here now!

Speaking of building legacies and legacy planning, I recently had a call with a potential client, and it got me thinking about people who have, or who are looking to have a legacy plan in place that includes a trust. Although a trust can be a great tool to incorporate in your planning, and can help keep your family out of court (probate), they can only be effective if set up correctly.

So tonight I'm going to be talking about what a trust is and how it can be an effective vehicle in legacy planning, what a trustee, successor, beneficiary, and pour-over will is, and why it's not only important to have a plan in place, but to ensure it's done correctly- no DIY!!! Remember, you won't know if something goes wrong until it's too late!

Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

If my experience with helping people plan their legacy has taught me anything, it's that although you learn from your experiences, there are some hard lessons you can avoid having to go through, if you have a plan in place and are having those conversations with your family.

Speaking of learning from your experiences, my guest tonight, Jude Bernard, who is an investor, developer, contractor, real estate broker, entrepreneur, and community organizer has had to learn a lot of lessons on the way to success.

After realizing that a 9-5 was no longer serving him, he decided to save up his money and eventually buy his first property in Jamaica, Queens. Before he knew it, he had invested in several properties, gotten his broker's license, and had become a contractor, inspiring others to do the same. He now is not only a successful entrepreneur, but the owner of a nonprofit called "The Brooklyn Bank" which gives back to the community by providing food, clothes, and information, and has even started a scholarship program.

Jude's journey to success and in building his ambitious legacy has taught him that you need to stick to one focus in order to be successful at it, time is invaluable, and that each one of us have different motivations for the things in life we go after, but it's important to remember that to achieve your goals, you'll not only need to put in the time, but make sure that you don't skip the process, because the lessons you're learning now, are the blueprint to your success for the future!

Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

So lately, I've been thinking a lot about my entrepreneurial journey. I've been in business for almost a decade and have pivoted a few times along the way. Every time I made a change and it didn't turn out how I expected, I felt like a failure because I didn't have the hindsight to see how it would all come together, but now that I have a better understanding of what my focus is, it all makes sense.

Speaking of pivoting and failing, my next guest has tried many different ventures within a short period of time and although they didn't all work out, he eventually found success in the credit world and now has his own credit repair business and a huge YouTube following.

My guest this week is Marvin Francois, a credit guru and YouTube sensational. He started off doing stand up comedy and did fairly well for himself before the pandemic changed the game for all of us. Between the world shutting down and his dad catching a bad case of COVID-19, it forced him to slow down and look at things differently. Like many of us when the pandemic hit, he ventured into different avenues to generate income including wholesaling and selling shirts on Shopify but none of them stuck. He finally decided to start focusing on the credit field as he was building his own credit and discovered what he was truly meant to do.

Marvin now helps people build and repair credit, while also breaking down information in a way that is digestible, relatable, and comedic! From must know credit tips, to how credit changed his life, to how faith and perspective can impact your legacy, you don't want to miss this episode!

Hey friends! Thank you for tuning into another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast and for helping me to stay on purpose!

You may have heard about Wendy Williams, who is currently suffering from some sort of mental disability, and how her financial advisor felt something wasn't right and decided to tell the court, who in turn decided to freeze her assets. She has since filed a lawsuit in order to get access to those assets, but she essentially has no control. Sound familiar? It's definitely giving Britney vibes. Like Britney, Wendy's situation could have been avoided if she had a legacy plan in place, or at the very least, a Power of Attorney and Healthcare Proxy. I've seen this happen time and time again and I don't want it to happen to you, so please make sure you are having these conversations! Have a plan in place now so you're prepared for the things beyond our control.

For my guest this week I had the pleasure of interviewing Kareem Hayes aka INF the Author and he's dropping gems on NFTs and what I like to call "The Digital Revolution"! INF does ALL the things, including being a self published author of the book "Necessary Evil", which he has sold over 150K copies of independently. From living in a crack house as a child to running away from home at 11 to getting shot, Kareem has been through some rough times, but he has always kept in mind the lessons he learned from his dad and the values he gained from his spirituality, and is now not only a self published author, but a screenwriter, artist, designer, and crypto expert. He has also turned his book into a series and a film, and is working on another film project that is set to start shooting in March. I told you guys- he does all the things!

Once the pandemic hit, Kareem wanted to find other ways to make additional income so he decided to invest in ETH, and when $300 turned into $1,700, he knew he had to tap into the metaverse and invest in more crypto. He has since immersed himself into the metaverse, and is passionate about educating others on how to do the same. Did you know that you can purchase virtual land and even use NFTs to get into certain clubs or other spaces? Kareem breaks down NFTs and how they are starting to signify status, how major companies like CashApp, Amazon, Google, and PayPal are adding it to their balance sheet (Facebook even changed their name to Meta), and why you should invest while it's still relatively low.

Hey friends, welcome to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

You need to hire new team members, and there are always prospects looking for a job so you should be able to fill the role in no time right? All you need is someone with the right qualifications and experience and the rest will fall into place.....except when it doesn't. In the process of trying to expand my team, I came to realize that what I thought I needed, was not always necessarily the right fit for my business. Thankfully, my next guest, who is in expert in this department was able to help me get on track and in the process, I realized that finding a qualified candidate is only half the battle!

My guest this week, Christlie G who is an entrepreneur and HR consultant, is out here doing all the things, including helping business owners like myself, as she continues to build her empire. Before starting her consulting company, Christlie G. Consulting LLC, she worked her way up in the retail industry from intern to HR Manager, eventually moving into the corporate world and landing a role as a Global HR Partner.

Christlie had already begun doing consulting work on the side while working full time, but after being let go from her last job, she decided to start her own business and consult full time. She now has a team of 4 and helps businesses find synergy between running a business and having the right team to support them. She also has a program that works with NY and NJ government contractors to mentor Black business owners and help them apply for government contracts.

Christlie went from working from 5 am to 12 am every single day to owning her own company, educating and mentoring individuals and businesses, building her empire with her husband so her children won't ever have to worry about money, and "building a platform where work is a choice, and not a requirement for survival." Now that's an ambitious legacy!!

Welcome to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

With the recent announcement of Megan Good's divorce, it got me thinking about questions I often get asked by couples as I'm helping them with legacy planning, regarding what would happen if they end up later separating or divorcing their partner, so tonight I'm going to share some options on how you can add layers to your planning in order to protect your individual assets.

Credit. We all need credit to build wealth and accumulate assets, but many of us are taught that all debt is bad, have no clue how to repair bad credit, and/or don't know how to use our credit wisely. Well my guest this week, Anthony Davenport, is a credit activist (yes, you read that right!) and advisor, and is changing how clients experience and view credit! After being a banker for almost 10 years, Anthony discovered that so many people didn't know anything about credit and how it works. So he decided to start helping people build credit so they could purchase homes. Then the 2008 recession hit and he had to file for bankruptcy when his wife was 8 months pregnant with their son. Having to start all over again, Anthony wanted to not only make sure that his family never had to experience that again, but he also wanted to build a business that would help other people recover from similar circumstances.

When Anthony first started his business there weren't a lot of resources to pull from, but he worked around the clock to learn everything he could to help others with their credit, because he recognized how lucrative it could be in changing the way people viewed credit. From having to work in hotels and setting up air mattresses in his workspace to representing the rich and famous, Anthony's intuition proved to be right, and he has now built a successful company that educates people on credit while providing them with the best options to repair their credit and protect their identities. Anthony's legacy also includes a networking group he created that helps connect people of color from all walks of life so that they can network with likeminded individuals and have the resources that he WISH he had. Now that's an ambitious legacy!

Hey friends, thank you for helping me to stay on purpose and for tuning into another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast!

Tonight I wanted to talk about real estate and how you can responsibly own your assets. Whether you purchased a property or inherited it, owning real estate is a part of your legacy, so you want to ensure that it is protected, and one way to do that is by incorporating it into your legacy plan, and more specifically, putting it into a trust.

Real estate is one of the most frequently lost assets when someone passes, and we've all probably seen or heard how family members can take advantage. Which is why I want to talk about what a trust is and how it can help you protect your property!

Welcome back to another episode of the Ambitious Legacy Podcast! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

I know I spoke a few episodes back about the importance of educating yourself on cryptocurrency whether or not you plan to invest in it, but this week I wanted to dive deeper into cryptocurrency and how you can PROTECT some of those digital assets with a trust. Yes, you read that right, you can incorporate your DIGITAL assets into your legacy planning!

Speaking of digital...

Did you know that cryptology has been around before the internet?

Or that cryptocurrency goes through market cycles similar to stocks?

How about that digital real estate is a thing??

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with crypto expert Armando Juan Pantoja, who IMO, is a genius in the metaverse and digital currency world, and he gives us all the answers and more!

After working as a software engineer for 15 years, Armando decided to go back to school for his graduate degree in software security with a focus on cryptology, but ultimately dropped out to start his own software company, which ended up being the FIRST software company to accept Bitcoin in the US. Now, he not only is the founder of a successful company that develops emerging tech in AI and crypto, but is also living his ambitious legacy by educating others on cryptocurrency, stocks, NFTs, and finance!

Hey friends, welcome to another episode of Ambitious Legacy! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

I've been reading this book called "We Should All Be Millionaires..." by Rachel Rogers, and if I'm being honest... it feels like SHE is reading ME lol. Not only is this book relatable and amazing, I think it's a good legacy piece because it ignites the conversation around building the life you WANT to live aka your legacy, and how you can be confident, successful, and a millionaire, starting with changing some simple habits. Although the book is geared towards women, I think it can be useful to anyone looking to make money moves and gain more peace, joy, and confidence!

Speaking of confidence, my guest this week is the legendary Jane Bond! She is THE ORIGINAL luxury realtor, and is also an author, speaker, entrepreneur, and mentor to many new and young real estate agents. Most people who embark on entrepreneurship, do so because they want to pursue their passion and/or they are tired of working a traditional job, but Jane has always had the entrepreneurial spirit having been inspired by her parents. Growing up, her parents acquired nightclubs and bars, and her dad allowed her to open up a kitchen at one of the locations where she started her own business at age 14 and was able to work after school. Yup, you read that right! Jane was already making moves before she could even vote! She learned the value of entrepreneurship and respect for money by watching her parents- talk about building an ambitious legacy!

Jane started getting into real estate when she got married and moved to Florida, and had to quickly learn not only what it meant to be a realtor, but also what it means to be a successful realtor in luxury real estate, and once she mastered it, she changed the game for those to follow. She has now turned her love of real estate into her passion and purpose by giving back to agents that look like her, and showing them that they can also do it and create amazing generational wealth!

Hey friends, welcome back to another episode of Ambitious Legacy!

It's a new year and for many of us that means working on executing the goals we set for 2022 so we can continue living our ambitious legacies! Remember how when Bitcoin first came out, no one really knew what it was or understood it's potential, and now it's worth thousands of dollars?!! Yeah I know, I wish I invested in it back then too. So this week I wanted to touch on cryptocurrency and NFTs. Whether or not you plan to invest in it (or the next new thing), I can't stress enough the importance of educating yourself so you can make an informed decision and potentially increase your portfolio!

Speaking of investing, my guest this week is an investor, speaker, educator, and more importantly a mentor- I got to chop it up with the one and only, Storm Leroy! From hip hop artist, to hacker, to owning a barbershop, and then investing in real estate, Storm's legacy is a testament of how his growth as an individual and entrepreneur has led him to be successful in his own right, and how he is now able to educate others on how they can maximize their investments by having the right mindset and blueprint.

Storm begun investing in real estate in the 90s, during the crack epidemic, in areas where no one even thought about investing in, and bought his first brownstone in BK for 350K! But, even though he was passionate about real estate, by the time he bought his second property he realized that trying to do all the work of gutting and renovating while working a full time job was just not it. He eventually learned that you have to "think like a CEO, not a landlord" when investing in real estate, and that "just like in the dictionary, the word mentor comes before the word money." GEMS!

Now having learned the importance of mindset, having a mentor, and investing with partners, Storm educates others on how to invest, how to structure your business as an investor, having the right mindset for success, mentorship, and the importance of legacy planning and creating generational wealth the right way.

Hey friends. Thank you for joining me for another episode of Ambitious Legacy and for helping me to stay on purpose!

I can’t believe 2021 is coming to an end, it’s been a crazy, yet amazing year and I am so grateful to get to end it with you guys!

So this week I wanted to talk about legacy planning and how you if you have children, and you leave them money in a trust, you can not only leave specific instructions on what they can spend on the trust funds on, but also a letter or even a video you can leave for them if they experience a life changing event such as getting married, having a child, or in Tariq from Power’s case- unfortunately getting arrested. As you create your legacy plan, you can not only choose what you want to leave behind, but give your loved ones an opportunity to feel connected to you through life’s events, even when you’re no longer around.

I’m also excited to share with you guys some changes that are happening with my firm, my very first event happening next year, and a life changing journal that will help you plan your ambitious legacy!

Make sure you like, comment, and subscribe! Happy new year friends!

Hey friends, thank you for helping me to stay on purpose as I build my Ambitious Legacy and share how others are building theirs!

Speaking of legacies, remember that, the better we are, the more we have to give! For example, here are some questions you should be asking yourself: What do I need to know in order to perfect my craft? How can I improve as a thought leader, business owner, employee, parent, etc? What can I add to my list of courses, books, or other educational pieces, that will help me on my journey of creating my Ambitious Legacy?

As I continue to build my legacy, one of the things that I am excited to finally share with you guys is a course that me and my good friend, Crystal Young, created called "Successfully Practicing Real Estate in 30 Days"! This course will teach attorneys everything they need to know to successfully practice real estate in just 30 days! A course like no other, it includes everything we WISH we knew when we decided to become attorneys, specifically real estate attorneys, including but not limited to: how to start your own practice, how to network, and how to represent both buyers and sellers from contract to closing! You can purchase the course using the link at the bottom!

My guest this week is someone who continues to be an inspiration to all attorneys, including myself, and who was a huge influence in my decision to create my own course after having taken hers, and seeing how she was able to fulfill a need and create a resource that wasn't available anywhere else.

So who is this amazing guest? This week I had the pleasure of interviewing thought leader, educator, attorney, and entrepreneur, Sonia Lakhany, who has been featured on Bloomberg, USA Today, CBS, and countless other networks and publications! She is the Trademark Guru, and has multiple courses that teach aspiring trademark attorneys not only how to practice trademark law, but also the business side of being an attorney.

Sonia (like many of us who come from immigrant parents), didn't have much of a say in her career choice and was pushed by her mom to pursue law. She ended up gravitating towards trademark law because it was the only class in law school that really resonated with her. After graduating law school, she started filing trademarks for free to gain the experience, and her story ended up landing her a job as a trademark attorney, which was the stepping stone to the numerous firms she would go on to work for. After 5 years she decided that it was no longer serving her, and decided to quit and bet on herself! Although she didn't have a plan, she knew that whatever she did would be successful. She now has million dollar courses, is doing what she loves, and serves as someone that attorneys and people of color can aspire to be and learn from. Now that's an ambitious legacy!

Welcome back to another episode of Ambitious Legacy! Thanks for tuning in and for helping me to stay on purpose!

This week I want to dive deeper into the concept of generational wealth. Many of us are already taking the steps towards building generational wealth through asset acquisition, but I want to talk more about the transitional (generational) part of wealth building. It may feel uncomfortable to talk about what will happen once you're no longer around, but it doesn't have to be a morbid conversation. If you think about what it takes to build generational wealth, you're already planning for the future, but it's important to make sure the focus is not only on your assets, but also on what you care about and who you care about, and how you plan to protect both and incorporate that into a legacy plan. So I'm going to provide you with tips on how you can have these conversations with your loved ones, how you can put a legacy plan in place, and how to transcend your current mindset around creating a plan!

My guest this week is the dope, talented, and gifted Asia Denson! Based in Detroit, Asia not only owns her own construction company, Denson Construction Services, but she is out here killing the game you guys and inspiring so many lives just by being herself and doing what she loves. Although she initially wanted to be an architect, she ultimately decided to pursue construction after working as a highway engineer co-op intern and recognizing how lucrative the business (and the paychecks) were, even as an intern. She has now been in business for 12 years, and while building her business she has learned: what it means to be in a male dominated industry, how to recognize her worth and attract the right clients, the kind of people she can sub out work to, the value she brings to her clients and those in the construction industry, and how representing your city can really open up people's minds and help them to see it the way you do, someplace to be proud of!

From paying yourself last, to battling lawsuits, to being in business for 11 years and doing so successfully without having any staff, and having a supportive family, make sure you to tune in to hear more about Asia's ambitious legacy and don't forget to rate and subscribe!

Hey friends! Thank you for joining me on another episode of ....Ambitious Legacy!!

As you know, the NEW name of my show is now Ambitious Legacy! If you want to learn more about why I decided to change the name, make sure you check out last week's episode! And don't worry, I'll still be sharing "Sabine's Common Sense" at the beginning of each episode, so remember if you don't have any, feel free to use mine!

Speaking of Sabine's Common Sense, this week I wanted to talk to you guys about the legacy of icon and legend, Tupac, and also share with you 3 immediate things that you should do within the first 48 hours after someone you love has passed.

I also had the pleasure of interviewing News Personality. Producer, and Host of the Becoming Dope Podcast- Mimi Brown! Mimi is using her talents to create a new path for people of color as she builds her ambitious legacy! Having grown up in Alaska, where there weren't really any examples of representation in different industries and professions, she had to learn a lot from watching TV, and it propelled her to leave right after high school and attend Howard University, which turned out to be the best decision she could have ever made. It inspired her to pursue her purpose of making sure people of color are being represented in all spaces, and changing the rooms she's in for other people.

After graduating and getting her degree in business, she got a call from one of her old professors who was in LA and had just signed up for The Apprentice, and wanted Mimi to be her assistant. Her experience working as an assistant was the exposure she needed to find out what she really wanted to pursue, and went from being an assistant, to working for US Weekly, to getting her degree in Broadcast Journalism, to being hired on Good Day LA AND getting her own show, to now also having a podcast. Mimi is doing it ALL you guys. All while being a mom to an amazing 8 year old who is already creating his own ambitious legacy!

What started off as a curious chat at the NAACP awards with a journalist, has turned into not only a career, but a gamechanger for conversations being had and the rooms they're being had in. This is one episode you don't want to miss!

Hey friends, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thank you for watching my show and for helping me to stay on purpose! I realized that I started my show almost a year ago, and I haven't really shared with you guys MY Ambitious Legacy.

So this episode instead of having a special guest, I'll be sharing with you more about my journey, my goals and ambitions, and my legacy! My passions and accomplishments, upcoming projects, and even some pitfalls. I'll also breakdown the reason I renamed my show to what I've come to realize is my purpose - talking about and sharing people's Ambitious Legacies and (hopefully) inspiring you to create and/or continue to work on yours!

Welcome to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense! Remember if you don't have any, you can always use mine!

Some of you may or may not have heard about Lexis Jones Mason (A.J. Johnson's widow), who called out the late comedian's FANBASE, referring to them as "fake" for not donating to the GofundMe page that she set up for assistance with his funeral costs. Lexis told TMZ , “Y’all Say Y’all Love Him. Where Is The Love? We’re Raising Money Because I Have To Pay For This All Out Of Pocket.” There's no argument that planning a funeral, even with just the basic necessities, can be really expensive- but who is truly responsible for ensuring there is enough funds to cover the costs in a situation like this?

When it comes to your legacy, you (and possibly your partner) are the one who is responsible for ensuring that there is proper legacy plan in place that not only dictates what should be passed down or where you would want to be buried, but also a plan that protects your family, and outlines how certain expenses will be paid for in the event of your death or incapacity.

Make sure you join me tonight at 7 pm EST/5 pm PST live to hear more about this unfortunate circumstance and how you can prevent this from happening to your loved ones. You won't want to miss this!

Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Do you have a legacy plan in place? If so, when's the last time it's been updated? If not, what's holding you back?

Hey friends! Thanks for helping me to stay on purpose!

As you may have noticed, I changed the name of the show to "Ambitious Legacy". I wanted a name that would reflect what I'm passionate about, the content I bring to you guys, and my purpose- which is to share with you what it means to have an AMBITOUS LEGACY! Because regardless of where you are on your journey, you WILL be leaving behind a legacy, which may look different for everyone based on assets, values. and the people who mean the most to you!

This show has been such an amazing experience for me, and it's helped me to realize that I am fulfilling MY ambitious legacy! I hope you find these episodes to be informative, inspirational, and motivational- as you plan and build YOUR ambitious legacy. So let's get into another episode! Tonight I had the pleasure of sitting down with Rashidah Siddiqui, a dope real estate attorney, who is a Partner at Serpico, Serpico & Siddiqui, P.C. Originally from Grenada, Rashidah has always wanted to be an attorney, but while attending undergrad at Howard University and having been inspired by shows like "A Different World", she decided she wanted to pursue film production. It wasn't until she took a course in legal communications, that she reconsidered her dream of practicing law, and thought about becoming an entertainment lawyer. After graduating law school in the middle of a recession and looking for positions as an entertainment lawyer, she realized it wasn't the path for her, and eventually ended up as a real estate attorney. She now has over a decade of experience in her field and couldn't be happier!

Rashidah shares how she came to realize her true purpose, not as an entertainment lawyer- but a real estate attorney, how she landed a job at her current firm by being true to herself and her goals, and how you can live out your ambitious legacy as long as you know your passions, continue to pursue your purpose, and seek mentorship from different individuals from all walks of life. She also shares why you NEED a real estate attorney, what traps to to avoid if you're practicing real estate law, and how she finds balance between what she loves to do as a career, and what she loves to do in life. Hey Friends! Welcome to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense, and remember if you don't have any, feel free to use mine!

I always have soo much fun shooting these episodes. From the dope guests I get to interview to the amazing stories I get to share with you guys, and I hope you guys are just as inspired and excited to tune in every week!

Now we know New York is notorious for it's tall buildings, among other things, and that so many legends have broken barriers and created their legacies here, but have you heard about the black dream team of developers, architects, and builders that put in a request for a proposal to build a NYC skyscraper?! If approved, they'll be the FIRST group of African American developers to actually build a NYC skyscraper AND they plan to employ over 30K African Americans to work with them. You love to see it!!

I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to sit down with Nikki Merkerson! A friend and client of mine, Nikki is changing the real estate game and building her legacy WITH her children. Her experience in community development and in real estate provided her with the means to purchase her first home at just 29 years old, helped her to recognize her passion for educating the community on financial literacy and real estate, and was the stepping stone to both of her businesses, PairGap and Urban Leisure! Shortly after joining match.com, PairGap was born when she realized that just how match.com is able to match those looking for love, there should a program able to match those looking to co-own real estate.

It's funny how as parents we talk about our children being part of our legacy, but don't always consider how they help us to build that legacy. Considering selling her home because she felt overwhelmed, her son convinced her that there were too many opportunities to pass up and after many brainstorming sessions, she decided not to sell their home and they were able to create Urban Leisure, a coliving housing company for young like-minded individuals!

Remember, your legacy can be anything you want it to be, how will you build yours?

Hey friends, welcome to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense! Remember if you don't have any, feel free to use mine!

If you're like me and sometimes suffer from comparison syndrome, then you know what it's like to compare yourself to others, especially those your age and/or in your line of work. It's so easy to look at the success of others (especially on social media) and ask yourself, "Why didn't I have it all figured out from jump?" or "Why didn't I think of that great idea?" You may even regret some of the things you did or didn't do, wondering if you're lazy or if you just don't have what it takes. But this episode is the perfect example of how even if you have it all figured out, it doesn't mean it will go according to plan, and that being successful now, doesn't mean they had it altogether, they may have just landed at the right destination!

This week I got to chop it up with none other than Bianca Jordan aka the Brazen Lawyer! Bianca is an immigration attorney and owner of Brazen Legal Law Firm, and has known she wanted to be an attorney since she was just 12 years old! After a field trip in the 7th grade where her teacher was looking to break her out of her shyness and she had to reenact John Adams, it was the catalyst that made her decide that practicing law was the path she wanted to take. Bianca's story is definitely one that many can relate to, because although she knew who and what she wanted to be in life at such a young age, and did everything she was supposed to to get there, she didn't get there as quickly as she'd hope and the journey was nothing like what she expected.

As many attorneys do, she thought life after law school would be easier, but instead had a hard time finding a job, ended up homeless for a while, and had a lien on her bank account. Although she did everything right, she was sworn in with only $20 to her name and on public assistance. After not being able to purchase a slice of pizza and soda one day, she made the decision to start her own firm with the funds from a one day gig doing document review, printed some business cards and got her first client from someone who found her card. Bianca shares how she got to be the success she is today, the challenges she faced, how she had to learn to recognize her worth as an attorney, and some common misconceptions about immigration law.

Thank you for tuning into another episode of Sabine's Common Sense and for helping me to stay on purpose!

So at this point, we've all become pretty familiar with Zoom right lol? But did you know the founder of Zoom, Eric Yuan, didn't get approved for his US Visa until his NINTH try? Can you imagine if he had given up? Without his persistence and motivation to achieve his goals, he may not have the success that he has today. Not feeling inspired yet? Trust me, you will after watching this episode!

I had the pleasure of interviewing four time best selling author, motivational speaker, real estate connoisseur, and publisher, Jermain Miller!

Jermain has a similar story of faith and persistence, and had he decided to just go with the motions or succumb to being a VICTIM instead of a VICTOR of life's struggles, he would not be as successful as he is today. His grandma as his motivation, he became the first person in his family to go to college, but ended up dropping out after his grandma passed away from lung cancer. He lost his inspiration and before he knew it - he was 25, waking up on the floor with only 93 cents in his pocket and going through a divorce. After realizing he was only living to exist, he knew it was time for a change.

He then decided to get into real estate, and although he needed to borrow money from a friend in order to begin his career as a realtor, he quickly became successful and sold over 300 MILLION in real estate transactions. After devoting 10 years to the industry, he realized that being a realtor was just the stepping stone to the path that he was meant to be on, and decided to start his own real estate company in 2015, a consulting company in 2018, and a publishing company early this year. From writing a book in just THREE DAYS to manifesting being Les Brown's spiritual son to being able to manifest the life you want to live and then prepare for it- this is one story that will change your life! If this episode doesn't get you inspired, then something ain't right lol!

Hey friends so you know how I am always talking about legacy and the importance of asset protection? Well today I'm giving ya a real life example! I had the pleasure of sitting down with serial entrepreneur, YouTuber, and money guru, Ericka Shonta Williams!

This episode is all about doing the things you need to do NOW, so that you can live the life that you want to live, and Ericka embodies just that! Her energy speaks to her authenticity, freedom, and ability to inspire and educate others. Originally from North Carolina, Ericka comes from a military family and has lived in a few different states, including Alaska, Maryland, and Tennessee. Working at her cousin's dollar store at the age of 14 helped her to realize that anything is possible, and was the ignition to her entrepreneurship journey. From owning a coffee shop to working at a pizza shop, to getting her real estate license, to starting a painting company, a trucking company, AND becoming a 6 figure YouTuber, Ericka's story is proof that everything does happen for a reason, and it all eventually comes back full circle. Happy Friday and thank you for tuning in to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense!

This episode is definitely THE most ENERGETIC, INSPIRATIONAL, and INFORMATIVE episode yet! I'm telling ya, this episode will change your life! First, I break down the importance of protecting your creative works by registering your copyright. Remember the dance trend that had everybody and their grandma dancing to Meg Thee Stallion's song "Savage"? Well Tik Tocker, Keara Wilson, the choreographer of the dance- is finally getting the credit and copyright she deserves- thanks to the JaQuel Knight Foundation. You love to see it!

And for my guest this week, I am honored, excited, and so grateful to have had the pleasure of interviewing Ash Cash! Ash is the the founder and CEO of Mind Right Money Right Management, a financial Expert and motivator, runs two media outlets, is host of one of the TOP money mindset shows called "Inside the Vault" on EYL Network, has his own podcast, AND has written 11 books- FOUR of which are bestsellers. If you didn't know who he was before, you will definitely want to check him out now! Not only is Ash Cash a multi-talented hustler and motivator, but his energy is so infectious it will make you want to stop what you are doing right now and work on yourself, your goals, and get your coin lol! Having grown up in the projects in NYC, Ash Cash who grew up in the 90's, saw more happen before the age of 12 than most have seen in their lifetime, and due to some unresolved feelings of abandonment by his dad, even got kicked out of school a few times. But after his sister got him job at Blockbuster (remember those?!) and he had something positive to focus his energy on- his mindset changed and from there the grind hasn't stopped! Ash went from working at Blockbuster to working at Chase Bank, and worked his way up from being a teller at 19 to being VP at just 24 years old. He then went on to be one of the youngest CEOs of a federally charted bank at the age of 30! Feeling inspired yet? Ash Cash then decided that he didn't just want to work in finance, but he also wanted to educate others on financial literacy- in particular those that look like him and come from where he comes from- which has led him to become the success he is today.

Ash Cash lives by the motto G.O.D, which stands for "Greatness On Display", which he defines as: "By living in your truth, you're giving others permission to live theirs, and that's greatness". Ash is most definitely living in his truth and changing lives by continuing to share his story and drop ALL the gems! From financial literacy tips, to why you should follow your intuition, and so much more- you don't want to miss one second of this episode!

Welcome to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense! Thank you for helping me to stay on purpose!

Ok guys so I got some piping hot tea for ya. Godfather of soul, James Brown, unfortunately passed away in 2006, and 15 years later his family is still trying to sort through his affairs. From concerns about whether or not his marriage was legitimate, to his wife having ANOTHER husband, to a son who was forced to take 2 DNA tests, AND 9 other siblings outside of that relationship who each want a part of the estate- I mean I told ya...this tea is HOT!

I also had the pleasure of interviewing David Germaine, who is a real estate broker AND insurance broker by trade, and a true hustler at heart. Having grown up in the 70s (when Brooklyn was still Crooklyn) with two immigrant parents from the Caribbean, David knew he was destined for greatness. As with all things, you live and you learn (and he definitely learned a hard lesson after blowing through 90k in 4 months), but thanks to his mom who used a 10k investment to purchase a 2 family home, David was able to start building his foundation for generational wealth!

Guys, David's story is a true reflection of how your experiences shape your passions and goals. From being an educator who helped his students win basketball championships, to becoming a real estate agent after his mom was in a car accident, to then deciding to becoming an insurance broker after handling his mom's estate when she passed away from cancer, he has taken life's lemons and turned them into wealth, prosperity, compassion and purpose.

So this episode I talk about prenups, divorce, assets, and what you can expect if you are planning to divorce or are currently in the process of one. After 24 years of marriage, Dr. Dre and his wife are in the process of a divorce that has been going on for 2 years, and is still NOT final. Now we know Dr. Dre got MONEY (he's almost a billionaire) but ending his marriage has so far turned into a 7 figure divorce-that's right- 7 FIGURES!! He's also been ordered to pay millions in child support and an unspecified amount of spousal support. That's not all. He also filed a lawsuit against his soon to be ex-wife for allegedly stealing from their joint business. I know right? Straight up MESSY (and expensive)!

Make sure you tune in to learn more about what a trust is, what assets should be put into a trust, if you should plan with your spouse/partner or separately, whether or not you should be co-mingling assets with your spouse, and if it's possible to not leave your spouse anything in your legacy plan (I'm not judging). That being said, make sure you have a legacy plan in place that you can update as you grow through life, and so that you can be prepared for the unforeseeable, while protecting what you worked hard for.

Welcome to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

So this week let's talk protecting your creative! If you're an artist, fashion designer, or just someone who likes to be creative in their free time, it's important to know your rights, things to avoid, and how to protect your creative piece. Don't end up like Zoe Johnson (Grown-ish fans will know what I'm talking about) and make sure you protect your original works!

I'm also excited to introduce the man behind the camera of every episode, my audio producer and client, Josh Wilcox! Starting off as a DJ in high school, Josh has always had a passion for music, so it's no surprise that he decided to pursue an education in audio engineering. After graduating, he has since worked with Jim Jones, licensed songs for tv shows, and was even selected as the winner (out of 50 applicants!) to produce for the show "The Human Experience", with which he stayed on for two years. After a conversation with his wife (then girlfriend) and an epiphany, Josh decided to transition to podcast engineering and opened up his own studio in NY, Brooklyn Podcasting Studio (where all of my episodes are created)! Josh lets us in on the truth to licensing and what you should consider when you are the creator or host of a podcast. He also shares why you should stay true to your passion, move strategically and have multiples streams of income, and that you learn more from your losses than your wins!

Hey friends! Thanks for helping me to stay on purpose!

This week I wanted to talk about contracts. I know, I know, contracts are never sexy and nobody enjoys reading them (not even lawyers!), but contracts are so important especially when entering into a professional relationship with someone or partnering with them on a business/project. If you have a contract in place what does it include and does it serve in your favor? Although you should always have a trusted attorney like myself review a contract before you sign, if you decide to use a template from the internet or draft your own, you should understand how to make sure you are protected now to avoid having to worry about going to court later. To help ensure your coin goes to your business and not litigation, I let you guys in on some key things a contract should include and what you should be looking for when one is presented to you.

Ok so I am sooooooo excited for this episode because I had the pleasure of interviewing an awesome friend of mine, Danielle Johnson! A talented and gifted powerhouse, Danielle is a singer, entrepreneur, gospel and worship leader, has her own nail polish line, has produced her own album, and so much more! Talk about #goals! Sooooo many gems were dropped during our conversation so I hope you guys are ready! For real you might want to take some notes lol!

Having come from two hardworking parents, one of which grew up in the Jim Crow era, it's no surprise as to what has led Danielle to be so ambitious and successful in everything she does. Many women would agree that we tend to put everything and everyone else above ourselves while trying to do it all, but Danielle brings us to church by sharing how she overcame addiction, depression, past trauma, and life's struggles as a whole, while keeping the momentum going in her business endeavors, marriage, and journey of self improvement. Her faith based business, Worship in My City, has helped remind herself and others that self love, faith in God, and your "WHY" is all the motivation you need to be successful and love the life you live!

I am so excited for this episode!!

If you didn't get a chance to attend Invest Fest in ATL last weekend, don't worry because you can purchase the replay of the event- and trust me you want to catch up on all the gems that were dropped! This was definitely an experience of a lifetime and I am honored that I was able to speak and be part of this iconic event. For more information on the details of Invest Fest and how you can purchase the replay, you can go to https://investfest.com/.

Now, not only was Invest Fest lit lit, but it gave me the opportunity to reconnect with some amazing people- one of them being business owner, CPA, and educator, Ms. Business! Ms. Business not only owns her own accounting firm that helps individuals and business owners, but makes it her mission to educate the community on taxes, business structuring, bookkeeping and financial literacy. She was even the first guest to appear on Earn Your Leisure's podcast! This episode we talk Invest Fest and how she got to be "Ms. Business".

Ms. Business has done it all. From being a real estate agent to obtaining a degree in Biology/Pre-Med to becoming an accountant. Although she initially started her business, Brooks Alliance, to build business credit (while still working her corporate job), she realized that as she was building her business and brand, she was meant to serve a higher purpose and so she started Ms. Business. She started off by taking consultations after work and during her lunch breaks and was eventually able to leave her job WITHIN A YEAR. Not only is this dedication but it just goes to show that you CAN make time for the things you want! Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Ms. Business used that as a blueprint to branch out on her own and now has a team of 13 and has a clientele of over 1,000! She also lets us in on some tax tips, why if you want to start a business you should just go for it, and the importance of leadership as a CEO.

Welcome to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense!

On this episode I talk about legend and business mogul, Kobe Bryant. Although it's heartbreaking that we lost him at the young age of 41, I want to highlight his story because guys this is how a legacy is done!

Kobe is a great example of why it's so important to plan your legacy so that not only are the people you love taken care of, but the things that you have worked so hard for are carried out according to YOUR plan. The Black Mamba legacy lives on because Kobe planned ahead and granted his wife the ability to carry out his wishes, and has put protections in place that not even Nike can get in the way of! Now that's the type of legacy you want to leave behind! I am also excited to interview a friend, attorney, and mentor- Sandra Radna! Sandra is truly a success story because she was able to scale her small practice into a large successful firm (and every attorney knows that ain't easy!), and although it took a lot of trial and error, her efforts have definitely paid off, and she is now able to help others understand why it's not only important to continue to educate yourself in your field, but to read and learn as much as you can about being a business owner and entrepreneur.

With over 25 years of experience as a successful divorce attorney, Sandra has counseled countless clients, and has even written a book titled "You're Getting Divorced... Now What?" that has helped so many people prepare for this challenging new chapter in their life. She has also been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, and NPR among many other media outlets. No matter what industry you're in or what type of legacy you plan to have, you don't want to miss these gems on life, love, and being a successful business owner!

I hope you guys enjoyed this episode, and don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

Welcome back to another episode of Sabine's Common Sense! Thank you for tuning in and don't forget to rate and subscribe!

Sips Tea Ok so, I will admit I'm getting tired of talking about Prince and the outcome of him dying without an estate plan, butttt get ready to sip on this tea because the process of settling his estate has been.... a hot mess to say the least. I mean 5 years, thousands (if not millions) in legal fees spent, half siblings and other "family" coming out the woodwork, and don't even get me started on the "new" album that was released. If nothing else, let this be a perfect example of why planning your legacy is so important!

I also had the pleasure of interviewing Rosalyn Ortega-Elie aka Urban Teach. A Latinx powerhouse, Rosalyn is truly an inspiration, using her own personal experiences to help educate the community. After realizing that renting was only getting more and more expensive, she decided to go on a journey of educating herself on real estate, finances, taxes, and investing. Now Rosalyn is a successful real estate investor and entrepreneur, with multiple streams of income and shows others how to do the same- yes even those with college degrees. Talk about building generational wealth!
