I connected with Levi Torres after watching his videos on Tik Tok. What impressed me with High 5 was the employee involvement in the social posts. They just looked like they were having a lot of fun at work. In researching the company I noticed they had over 2000 google reviews all 5 star. I had a good time interviewing Levi and was impressed with his involvement in his community, and how he built his business from scratch.
Since 2012 Colorado native, Levi Torres and his wife Cassi have owned and operated High 5 Plumbing, an award winning, family-owned company serving residents in the greater Denver metropolitan area. With a professional team that has extensive experience and a commitment to service, High 5 Plumbing offers comprehensive plumbing, sewer and drain services.
The company was built on the values of solving plumbing problems and serving every customer with professionalism and respect. Levi believes that making an impact through High 5's has taught his team that they are much more than just a plumbing company and sees positive effects through customers, community, and his team one High 5 at a time!

Brandon grew up in the trades industry. His family owned and operated Scharnweber’s Water Conditioning for over 30 years with locations in 3 cities around central Iowa. From an early age, he was found at plumbing counters, delivering products and on jobsites helping his family. During a few summers, he worked cleaning out port-a-potties in farm fields for all of the Iowans working those summer jobs. It wasn’t glamorous work, but he learned the value of hard work that led to his belief that every job is important and has purpose.
After high school, Brandon worked at Lennox manufacturing heaters and air conditioning units while paying for college. Once again, the work was not always glamorous, but he made lifelong friendships with his colleagues on the line at Lennox. After college, he met his wife, Jill, also born into the plumbing industry. They were soon on the move together for a new job opportunity.
Brandon & Jill both worked for Ferguson Enterprises in the industry that had raised them. Brandon worked on residential and commercial building projects in Las Vegas during the boom of the mid 2000’s with his fingerprints on many of the large projects from that time. It’s an experience he is very thankful for. After 3-1/2 years in the Southwest, Ferguson moved them back to the Midwest to Omaha and then again 13 months later for an immediate need in their home state of Iowa. They gladly accepted and were happy to be close to their families.
In 2010 Brandon entered the real estate field while continuing to build on his education and network in the home building industry. He’s been fortunate to work on custom homes, remodels and with countless first-time homebuyers making those big decisions. In 2013, life changed forever when Brandon and Jill welcomed their son, Lachlan, to the world. Two years later they added Brecken, their second son, to the mix.
When the Patterson’s aren’t busy running around for work or one of their numerous volunteering events, they enjoy spending time together with family and friends. They have a deep love for their Iowa Hawkeyes and go to games often. Brandon is an avid runner and loves the outdoors. He’s a repeat Tough Mudder runner, half and full marathon veteran, and has just got into biking. He truly enjoys getting on the trails alone to see all the sights that Iowa has to offer.

Calvin Scharrer is a welder who now works as a Marketing and career services representative for Hobart Welding School. He helps prospective students on their career journey in the welding profession. As a Welder he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to help prospective students.
The Hobart welding school was started in 1930 as a department of the Hobart Brothers Company. In 1940, the school was granted a charter by the State of Ohio as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation governed by a board of directors and became known as the Hobart Trade School. As welding became more popular, the demand for trained welders increased and larger school facilities were required. In 1940, a new all-welded steel building was designed and built to house the welding school operation. Hobart Institute trained thousands of welders for World War II production in 1942-45.
The success of the welding training programs and the acceleration and growth of welding justified the construction of larger training facilities. In 1958, the present Hobart Technical Center, which houses the school, was completed. Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools approval was received in 1970. In December of that year, the name was changed to Hobart School of Welding Technology. In 1972, The National Association of Trade & Technical Schools granted accreditation to Hobart Institute. The school became a supporting member of the American Welding Society in 1977. The demand for trained welders continued to increase and larger facilities were required. Remodeling and expansion took place in 1978.
In September of 1991 the name was changed to Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. Renovation that began in 2005 and is continuing brings the Hobart Institute into the 21st century with enhanced technology and state-of-the art facilities.
The addition of the Hobart Gallery of Welding History in 2010 provides students and visitors an opportunity to explore the foundation that sets the stage for the present.
Over 100,000 people have successfully completed Hobart Institute of Welding Technology courses. We have trained students both male and female from all over the world ranging from the individual student directly out of high school to employees of Fortune 500 companies.

When Cecile Bukmeier (Auto Body Technician ’15) started working in an auto body shop as a teenager, her boss relegated her to sweeping the floors and taking out the trash – tasks that taught her nothing about refinishing cars but everything about attitudes women in the trade sometimes faced.
“There were very few women at this shop,” she says, “and there were none working in the back of the garage.”
Today, after several years of proving herself in the industry, Bukmeier is the first female instructor in NAIT’s Auto Body Technician program – a program that began more than 50 years ago.
She comes to the job as one of the province’s top technicians, having earned gold medals in auto body competitions at Skills Canada Alberta (a kind of Olympics for the trades) in 2013 and later at the national level. But she also joins NAIT as one of Alberta’s strongest advocates for women in trades, and hopes to guide apprentices through the challenges she herself faced – if not to help eliminate those challenges altogether.
Bukmeier completed her apprenticeship relatively recently, but her experiences as a woman in the industry were discouraging. After working at 3 places where she was less than welcome, “I thought, ‘Is nobody going to give me a break?’”
She didn’t give up. Bukmeier excelled at her studies and found a small shop with a forward-thinking boss. “I felt like if I was there to work, not to flirt with the guys, and I would work twice as hard, people would notice.

Dennis and Kimberly are the second generation of family owners at Gene Johnson Plumbing & Heating. The company started in 1976, when Gene and Valerie Johnson decided that Seattle needed an honest and reliable plumbing company. They were committed to delivering integrity and quality to each job, and treated every customer to top notch support—values that still stand today.
This commitment to honest service and quality workmanship brought a sense of pride to the entire family. Growing up, we would see our father’s big white trucks with the bold ruby letters and GJP logo driving away to help a customer. Sometimes we got to meet the people our father helped, getting a taste of what it was like to provide the kind of customer service that truly made a lasting impression on people. When we got older, we started working alongside our parents at the shop, cleaning and helping out with simple tasks.
Now, we are running the business as the second generation. The pride of ownership has become even more personal as we take responsibility for the continued success of the company. It’s no longer “Dad’s truck” but “Our truck”; no longer “Dad fixed that family’s plumbing” but “We fixed that family’s plumbing.”

Barbara Parsons, known professionally as Barbie the Welder, is an American metal sculptor. Her work achieved prominence after being published on social media. She has produced sculptures for a number of significant clients, and run welding exhibitions at trade fairs.
From Elmira, New York, Barbie was influenced by her father, a self-described jack of all trades from whom she learned about drywall fitting, roofing, and electrical installations. She was inspired to take up welding after seeing a character in the film Cast Away weld wings onto an angel sculpture.
She started her career in 2007, saving $1,200 to attend a local BOCES welding program. She was subsequently hired at Cameron Manufacturing and Design, where she worked as a sheet metal fabricator. After working for five years to learn the art of welding and fabrication and earning her Journeyman in sheet metal and iron plate, she quit in September 2014 to work as an independent artist.

The Automotive Training Center started initially as an idea. In 2012, Larry had just moved to an inner-city Atlanta neighborhood and was struck by how many young men he was meeting that had been to or were headed to prison. Larry was upset by this trend and wanted to do something to help these young men.
The Automotive Training Center is a program in Atlanta, Georgia that provides young men with technical training so that they may obtain entry-level employment in the automotive repair industry. The majority of our students are at-risk and drawn from low-income neighborhoods where unemployment and high school drop out rates are both high. ATC was founded on the principle that all of its students have untapped potential that has not developed because of their specific life circumstances. ATC gives its students opportunities to grow the technical and entrepreneurial skills they already possess. We instill these values in its students through a positive, encouraging, and challenging learning environment. ATC’s training produces graduates that are more likely to maintain stable employment, become business owners, and have stable family lives when compared to their peers.
