INTRODUCTION
One of the most frequently asked questions i get as an Executive Leadership Coach is ‘how do I have those tough conversations?’ It never fails to amazing me that leaders struggle with communication so much when quality communication is the number one driver for staff engagement.
This season of the overwhelm to Owning it show i’ll be sharing my Communication tips for business leaders and people leaders.
If you need to scrub up your communication, join me each week as we unpack another Communication technique and strategy to use straight away.
Show Objectives - The Why
It’s Season 5 kick of and this season it’s all about Communication for leaders. IN the kick off episode i’ll go through what’s instore for upcoming episodes and a little taster of the types of topics you can expect throughout the season.
Key Issues - Owner Perspective:
As business leaders, and leaders of your teams and life, it’s imperative that you’re continually looking to grow yourself, and connect with your team. It’s estimated that we avoid a conversation every 7 minutes (unreal!) which equates to approximately $104B in lost productivity every year.
What You Need to Know - The What
As a leader it is your responsibility to make sure that the way you’re communicating is in a way that the person you’re communicating with likes (needs) to receive information. If you’re a leader of more than one person this means that you’ll have to continually tweak and adapt your leadership communication to make sure that it’s appropriate for the person you’re speaking with.

INTRODUCTION
After a year that saw radical and rapid change, there is a need for a new kind of leader, the kind of leader that can lead with empathy and compassion, can lead a team as a change master, and manage competing priorities with grace. Welcome, The Courageous Leader!
This season of the Overwhelm To Owning It show, will be going through the framework of the Courageous Leader and the skills leaders will need in 2021 and for the future of leadership.
Show Objectives - The Why
Today's episode is looking at such a big topic for leaders. Whether you lead a business or a team, or an organisation. How you interact with your people AND keep productivity happening is key to the success of your business.
Key Issues - Owner Perspective:
It’s no surprise that there’s a constant juggle between being empathetic, while also making sure that the work to be done is getting done. In this era of leadership, especially with the rise of the Courageous Leader, leaders in business need to be able to have empathy for their people as a retention strategy and they also need to make sure productivity isn’t lost in the process.
What You Need to Know - The What
What is empathy? Simply put, empathy neutralises negativity. When there’s frustration, anger or dissatisfaction with a team member, the ability to temporarily step into their shoes, see their perspective is what defines empathy.
In the workplace, as leaders you don’t always know or are privy to the full spectrum of what someone might be going through. Having a generous assumption that someone is doing their best effort, and being open to listening is key to building empathy.
What You Need to Do - The How
How to develop empathy. - YES empathy is a learned and practiced skill.
They types of empathy
Emotional empathy or active empathy
Cognitive empathy
What happens when there’s too much empathy.
Healthy and productive empathy.
Setting healthy boundaries

INTRODUCTION
After a year that saw radical and rapid change, there is a need for a new kind of leader, the kind of leader that can lead with empathy and compassion, can lead a team as a change master, and manage competing priorities with grace. Welcome, The Courageous Leader!
This season of the Overwhelm To Owning It show, will be going through the framework of the Courageous Leader and the skills leaders will need in 2021 and for the future of leadership.
Show Objectives - The Why
Todays episode is looking at the cycle teams go through either when being newly formed, or when there’s a change in staff such as a new person joining the team, or someone leaving the team. Each time there’s a staffing change, teams go through this cycle. Some teams navigate this better than others.
Key Issues - Owner Perspective:
It’s no surprise that leaders are constantly faced with decision overload, being reactive rather than responsive. One of the simplest (not necessarily easy) things a leader can do, is actually step back and work ON the business, or ON their leadership for their team. When a new staff member joins a team, it’s often because there’s been a period of running under resourced. Usually as a business leader, we’re focused on getting the new person ‘up to speed’ we don’t always stop to look at what impact this could have on the existing team.
What You Need to Know - The What
Every team will go through each stage of this cycle. Some will move through it more quickly than others.
Forming - This is the establishment phase, you’re coming together as a team. Normally enthusiasm is high, there’s excitement and motivation to get started
Storming - This is when the chincks start to show through the armour. We start noticing a bit of friction and the rose coloured glasses are off.
Norming - Once through the storming stage, team members are learning more about each other, their roles and teams begin to settle into their ‘normal’ way of working.
Performing - After everyone has established their ‘place’ within the team, this is when results start to happen. Team members are feeling comfortable in their role and are ready to go that next level.
What You Need to Do - The How
How to identify which phase your team is in
How to accelerate or advance your team through the ‘storm’ and get to ‘performing’.
Building healthy discussions
Getting on top of conflict early.

This week on the From Overwhelm To Owning It Show, I will be looking at the self-aware leader.
Leadership is an inside-out job. You need to lead yourself before you can start to lead your team and your business. To help you achieve this level of leadership, I’ll discuss the 3 key pillars to the self-aware leader. I’ll also give tips on how to overcome blocks like limiting beliefs that stop you from being an effective leader.
Key Issues - Owner Perspective:
One of the biggest challenges for leaders whether they’re new or have been in their role for a while, is that to get to that next level, to become a courageous leaders they need to first unpack and work on the first pillar of the Courageous Leader - The Self-Aware Leader. To be a self aware leader takes work. Specifically looking at Clarity, Confidence and Conviction.
What You Need to Know - The What
Clarity - Having a clear vision of where you are now, and where you want to be, and constructing a compelling future.
Confidence - The feeling of belief that one can have faith or rely on someone or something. The feeling of self-assurance arising from an appreciation of your own abilities.

Introduction
This week on Overwhelmed to Owning it we’re talking about your leadership Mindset and keeping your head in the game. An effective leader is a leader that keeps their head in the game, always focused, and knows what they’re after. It’s important for your own satisfaction, and to keep achieving your goals, that you develop a leadership mindset which means leading your own life. Whether you’re leading your business a team, perhaps your family. Working on ‘taking charge’ of your life, is the first step.
Key Issues - Owner Perspective:
What You Need to Know - The What
What is mindset
The belief systems we’ve been conditioned from early childhood

Show Objectives - The Why
For any leader it’s important for your team or your staff to know that they can come to you for a problem. What’s also important as a leader, is to make sure that you’re still doing your work, and still being productive.
