In today's episode, We will talk about the importance of having Agency AND WHAT THAT MEANS. Gammy has 4 grandchildren and wants them to be self sufficient self confident secure grown adults. Plus, Gammy admits she's working on having agency in my own life and keeping it.
Jess recently learned what the term agency was and was immediately intrigued then disheartened at realizing that this was a concept that was not a part of her life. As a mother of 2 and on a journey to rebuilding life, Jess is very much looking forward to learning how to continue to live our lives to the fullest.
Definition from The social science jargon-buster: "The ability of individuals to affect change, make autonomous and independent choices and act in self-determining ways...A sense of agency is a sense that one can be more than reactive to one’s environment; having a sense of agency means that one can be generative, creative, proactive, and reflective. "
A. Bandura, famous Psychologist, proposed that agency consists of several key factors
Self Reflectiveness is the key to self-efficacy- the belief in your own ability-

Today Jess and Gammy talk about self care.
Gammy realized she hasn't been taking care of herself the way she should after a trip to the mall with her grandchildren. Jess realized she needed to set a line item in her budget for self care after a conversation with her daughter who is growing out of her clothes.
The World Health Organization's definition of self-care is “the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a health-care provider.”
Join Jess and Gammy as they discuss the need for self-care and all the pits in life that can remind you to take a moment reflect and reset by taking care of you.

*In today's episode, We will ask each other questions. Gammy has known Jess’ Husband Anthony since he was born, but long distance, as his father Tony and Gammy were first cousins: Tony raised in California and Gammy in Georgia. Jess & Gammy have known each other about 9 years via Facebook but only met face-to-face July 2021 (9 months ago)when Jess and her Husband, upon invitation after the death of Gammy’s Aunt/ Anthony’s Grandmother, came from California to live with Gammy in Jacksonville, FL. Why? To make a new start and heal from all the losses they have experienced the past 5 years.
The old saying goes: “coming to see aint like coming to stay.” So, Jess & Gammy decided to ask ‘What you always wanted to know but were afraid to ask’ questions of each other just to take our relationship deeper.
We ask questions about:*

In this, our first episode, we introduce you to who Jess and Gammy are. We have stories to tell and secrets to talk about. Genealogy and Family are are filled with secrets. Some good stories that form the hood in which we live. We will talk about the space where we live, our hood. Our voices are different, Jess a wife and mother who recently relocated from California to Florida and is of Mexican American heritage and Gammy a grandmother from Savannah GA who has lived the past 40 years in Jacksonville FL is of African American heritage. Yet, we are very much alike. Our perspectives are the same yet different. We both have a hunger for more knowledge about our families and both are uncovering secrets we'd like to talk about. We both like to talk and have our voices heard!
Who are we?
Jess is a fun loving, adventure seeking, food enthusiast. She loves being in the great outdoors, preferably near a beach. She enjoys cooking but hates the clean up part, watching the same shows over and over again and reading. She’s a night owl trying to survive in an early bird family and is outnumbered by her two daughters and husband. She’s currently experiencing life as a stay at home mom and keeps her sanity by going on walks, cooking, painting and planning out as much of her life as she can!
Gammy is a self-proclaimed nerd, who loves Sci-Fi, Pop Culture and new technology. Gammy’s favorite book genre is Historical Romance. She was raised in Southern Georgia, but Gammy has lived in Northeast Florida almost 40 years. She is a retired Librarian that has gone back to work part time with many other careers sprinkled before and in between. Now, add podcaster to the list of careers she has had. But her most rewarding career was that of mother to 3 now adult children who have given her 4 grandchildren. She has two dogs, a poodle and a doodle, who bring chaos, filth and craziness to her life. If asked her biggest fault, she would say, “I find it difficult to say no.”
