TW: Suicide and Depression ⚠️

In this episode we had the pleasure of speaking to Connor Sahely aka @moodtomove.

In the last year, Connor has completed a 24 hour walk and an 81km swim over 9 days to raise much needed funds for 'It's Okay Not To Be Okay'. Connor is currently 74 days into his 100 days of 9 minute dips and is on track to complete 3139 chin ups to raise awareness for the number of suicides in Australia in 2019.

This chat delves into Connor's 'why' and the reason he is striving to achieve outrageous goals in order to make an impact on the mental health space. Listen to Connor find strength through struggle in our first episode of the Real Talk series.

We are back for a Real Talk.

The boys reflect on the Gratitude Letter Series and discuss the upcoming 'Real Talk Series'. Over the next 2 months, the boys will be interviewing guests from a wide array of mental health backgrounds to showcase how mental ill-health can affect people in a variety of ways.

A key component to these stories will involve ZOOP's new Real Talk conversation starters. These cards have been designed to evoke meaningful moments between friends, family members and strangers and you will get to see them in action throughout the series.

This series will coincide with the upcoming 9 FOR 9 which will involve jumping in the bay for 9 minutes each day from July 31 to August 28 to raise awareness for the 9 lives lost to suicide on average each day in Australia. All money raised from this challenge will go to batyr; a youth mental health organisation run by young people for young people.

This season will be full of stories, vulnerability and a Real Talk about mental health.

On today's episode of 'The Stories of ZOOP', we have storyteller Brooke Cleal. Brooke finished up as the runner-up on Season 9 of 'The Bachelor', experiencing heartbreak on national television. In this story, we get to see the authentic Brooke, not the 5% we saw on our screens for an hour a week. Brooke speaks up about the real story behind reality TV versus what is seen on our screens and how what we see on TV effects the mental health of those on the show.

Despite millions of people seeing her reality TV story - the real story behind the scenes is so relatable and so human. This is a story of reality vs expectations; a story of judgements and stereotypes; a story of identity, grief and heartbreak; and a story of success, of redemption and self discovery,

More importantly, Brooke is an Occupational Therapist, traveller of the world and a genuinely kind and caring human being. We thoroughly enjoyed this chat!

On today's episode of 'Stories of ZOOP', we have storyteller Gabby Seymour. Gabby is an AFLW star for the Richmond Tigers. Gabby spent most of her junior years playing national level volleyball and she was one of the first cross coders in the inaugural Richmond Tigers team. After seeing a Facebook flyer calling for female football players, Gabby went from never kicking a football to practicing with her partner, Nick, to coming 3rd in Richmond's Best & Fairest for the 2020 season; the team she had supported since she was a child.

Gabby also works full-time as a physiotherapist whilst embarking on her journey of becoming a mindset coach. Gabby's story is a story of change and tackling (sorry for the pun) being an athlete with working full-time.

The boys continue the ZOOP journey with new uniforms (finally), a new set of goals and new wagers as they embark on tackling the theme of gratefulness this season.

Taking inspiration from Dr Erwin Valencia in the last School of ZOOP, the boys look to implement some of the teachings into real practice, namely gratitude. It has become a buzzword in health circles and the boys aim to learn about and try the different levels of gratitude as habits to see how it impacts their day.

Along with creating gratitude goals, inspired by Erwin's rise to the NBA through manifesting, Connor sets out another goal to manifest every morning, Denks commits to learning how to breathe while Jerome comes up with an unorthodox new night time routine to set him off to bed.

If the boys can't complete their goals - you may be lucky enough to have dinner cooked for you, be driven anywhere or have your admin done for a day!

In this episode of The ZOOP Podcast we welcome back Toddy Odrowaz to the pod! Toddy has followed his heart all the way to Florida in the United States and comes back with a new tea and some big questions for the boys!

This episode is about having meaningful moments with your mates. Vulnerability is a key pillar of authentic connection and the boys thought there's no better way to model vulnerability than go through it themselves.

Listen in as the boys delve into whether adulthood was what they expected it would be when growing up and discuss (weirdly) an inanimate that they all find attractive...

The boys embark on another ZOOP journey with a new set of goals for the next 8 weeks. On this season of the pod, the boys will be tailoring their goals around social anxiety; a pertinent issue following 2 years of hard lockdown in the state of Victoria, Australia.

The goals will be based on the teachings from 'The School of ZOOP' episodes to see whether the well-being tips and tricks from leading experts work for the boys. Connor explores how a different mindset can change how he views past readings; Denks attempts to replicate Dr Gihan Jayaweera's "do happy" mantra whilst Jerome discusses how he is going to use the 'RAIN' method to reflect on experiences he faces over the coming weeks.

Further, the boys will be stepping out of their comfort zones to tackle activities that produce feelings of social anxiety to conquer their fears of judgement, shame, embarrassment and fear.

How YOU can get involvedYou can join us, or do the challenge wherever you are! If jumping in the water isn't an option for you, commit to having a 9 second cold shower every day through August.

The aim is to put ourselves through a gruelling mental challenge and share the journey in order to raise awareness for and promote having conversations around mental health. And we have a goal to raise $6500, which is what it costs batyr to run a batyr@school program and parent forum.

The ZOOP Network will be heading to Port Phillip Bay most mornings for our 9 minute cold water immersion for 29 days straight to raise awareness for the 9 Australians who die by suicide each day.

Each Sunday, the location will change to a different location along the Bay to spread this awareness far and wide. Join us on Sunday August 15th at Chelsea Beach, pending restrictions, to support this great cause!
