Kamloops city councillors Mike O'Reilly and Katie Neustaeter are on the Build Kamloops program select committee, which has identified five facilities to explore building as part of the program — the Kamloops Centre for the Arts, an aquatics centre, a multi-sheet ice complex, an indoor soccer dome and a curling facility.
They hop in with KLW [at 15:59] to talk cost, community appetite for spending, potential referendum, locations and Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson's comments relating to the program made last week on KLW, among other topics.

Hamer-Jackson also denies a report that notes he said these words to City of Kamloops CAO David Trawin: “I’ll bury you.”

Connor Zary has become a rookie sensation with the Calgary Flames.
The 22-year-old forward played for the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL from 2017 to 2021 before the Flames nabbed him 24th overall in Round 1 of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Zary hopped on a Zoom call with Marty Hastings of Kamloops Last Week on Friday, Jan. 19, the day after his third-period goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs was disallowed and the day before his Flames played host to Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.
Topics include his rookie season in the NHL, McDavid, Kyrell Sopotyk, the Vancouver Canucks, the Flames’ recent dads’ trip and his time with the Blazers.

A motor-vehicle accident on Nov. 29 in Kamloops took the life of TRU WolfPack men’s volleyball player Owyn McInnis of Guelph, Ontario.
McInnis was killed and two of his teammates — Riley Brinnen and Owen Waterhouse, both from Kelowna — suffered life-altering injuries in the accident that took place on McGill Road at University Drive, near the university campus.
They were stopped at a red light in a Volkswagen Jetta when an out-of-control pickup truck hit several trees along McGill Road before crashing into the Jetta.
Brinnen incurred a serious spinal injury and Waterhouse suffered severe brain trauma.
WolfPack men’s volleyball head coach Pat Hennelly and three of his players — Rylan Ibbetson and Mason Sodaro of Kelowna, along with Dylan VanSpankeren of Calgary — spoke to Kamloops Last Week on Monday, Jan. 8, before practising at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson [52:15] and coun. Dale Bass [26:20] hop in for a spirited edition of Kamloops Last Week.
Among topics are the defeated Lansdowne Street multi-use pathway proposal, council staying the course on garbage pickup dates in December, coun. Mike O’Reilly’s assertion that Hamer-Jackson created an unsafe working environment for city employees by mentioning a staffer by name during the Tuesday, Dec. 5, council meeting, Bill 45 and coun. Katie Neustaeter, among others, asking the mayor to provide more advanced notice to council/staff after his request for an update on a motion.
Bass, a Thompson-Nicola Regional district director, is asked about the TNRD board voting to give itself a raise and whether the timing was right.
Also, she says there is no getting around rising property-tax rates in the city, blaming past councils for the dilemma, and suggests the mayor was attempting to have a gotcha moment and embarrass a staff member during council on Tuesday.
We also hear from Bass about some of council’s accomplishments and why she is looking forward to the next three years.
In the Tattle of Hastings [1:14:11], co-host Marty Hastings delves into the motor-vehicle accident last week in Kamloops that took the life of one TRU WolfPack men’s volleyball player (Owyn McInnis) and left two others critically injured (Owen Waterhouse and Riley Brinnen).
Hastings visited the memorial site set up for those involved in the crash with the South Kamloops Titans’ senior boys’ volleyball team, which won the B.C. championship last weekend and dedicated the victory to McInnis, who helped coach their team.
We hear from the Titans.

In Reider’s Digest [at the 13:46 mark], Hamer-Jackson — who was sworn in as mayor on Nov. 1, 2022 — reflects on one year on the job, saying he has no regrets.

Kamloops will be without a newspaper for the first time since 1884.
Kamloops Blazers' play-by-play man Jon Keen of Radio NL had Marty Hastings of Kamloops This Week/Kamloops Last Week on during the second intermission of a WHL game on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Sandman Centre.
The topic was the closure of KTW after 35 years.
Keen was honoured on Tuesday for 20 years of service in the WHL.

Kamloops Blazers’ forward Luke Toporowski suffered a lower-body injury on March 11 in a collision during a game against the Kelowna Rockets at Sandman Centre.
He has been out of the lineup since, but is primed to make his return in time for the playoffs, with his old team, the Spokane Chiefs, up first in Round 1. Game 1 is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday at Sandman Centre.

Kamloops Blazers’ majority owner Tom Gaglardi said a new format is in place for bidding on the Memorial Cup — a behind-the-curtain, confidential process that is likely to produce a host city prior to this summer.
Gaglardi said he does not expect a vote among the WHL board of governors to be involved in the process.
