Divya Navani, MD, is an internist with a passion for physician health. She works as a consultant and a team builder for physicians, supporting physicians to grow personally and professionally through life and its stresses. She has created an 8-week program called Beating Burnout MD. She stresses the importance of sleep, stress management, and relationships, both personal and professional, in helping physicians beat burnout.
Divya has been deeply touched by the suffering of her patients over her 25-plus-year career as an internist. On the personal front, she was devastated when her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at the young age of 58. All this sent her barrelling down the path of "searching for health." She brings back her deeply researched and practically lived perspective on health to her colleagues.
She understands that health occurs at all levels and is lost at all levels--- physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and energetic. She supports physicians in reclaiming their health on all these levels.
"You are born with your highest and natural blueprint of health. It is always there. No matter what has happened or where you are now, this blueprint is always accessible. Health is always accessible. Health is always within reach. Health is always there."

In this episode I have an open and real discussion with Michael Williams (He/Him) who is a board-certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). As an Afro-Latino bilingual (English, Spanish) APRN specializing in Internal Medicine and HIV-PrEP, he has cared for a culturally and socio-economic diverse patient population for over six years. Along with clinical practice, Michael has been a clinical instructor at several institutions- Yale University, Texas State University, and Concordia University: Texas. He is also a Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner student at Louise Herrington School of Nursing: Baylor University. Michael credits his love for medicine to growing up in New York City and his parents. His upbringing exposed him to many healthcare challenges and obstacles to care firsthand. Being of Panamanian descent allowed him to see the importance of understanding culture and its impact on delivering care. These experiences led him to obtain the Bachelor of Science in Nursing ‘09 and Master of Science in Nursing ‘16 degrees at the University of Tampa. As a first-generation college graduate, he and four friends initiated an endowment scholarship for first-generation college students at their alma mater.
Michael believes community care is essential to the advancement of society. The philosophy guiding his practice is to provide the highest level of care through meaningful and collaborative relationships with all community members. He actively participates in various community events: speaker on health-related topics, health fairs, 5k to half marathon races, and volunteering at the local food bank. He has also authored peer-reviewed poems related to social issues in the community. Michael firmly believes that improving healthcare outcomes begins with educating and empowering the community that he serves.

Lisa Bazinet RN,MSN,OCN, CNML is the Regional Nurse Manager of Oncology Services for Hartford Healthcare East Region. She has experience in the inpatient areas as well, being both a nurse manager for an inpatient oncology unit, 28 bed medical surgical as well as IVT. Lisa has been a RN for almost twenty years starting her nursing career first as an LPN. She has worked as a nurse at the bedside for over 17 years in various settings before going into a more formal leadership role.
She is a graduate of St Joseph’s College in Standish Main obtaining her Master’s Degree in Nursing with a concentration in Administration. She is also an alumni of both the University of Connecticut and University of the State of New York.
She holds two certifications in both oncology nursing and nurse management/leadership. She is also a 2006 receiptant of the Florence Nightingale award.
In her spare time, Lisa enjoys walking with her dogs, two German shorthaired pointers, Chase and Echo, boating, reading mystery novels ( James Patterson, Tess Gerritsen) as well as spending time at the beach.
The reason why I wanted to become a nurse manger several years into my nursing career was because I had a really great leader who could take even the busiest of days and make them better. I think because she made, the nurse at the bedside, feel supported and valued. Nursing is hard work emotionally, physically and mentally and to have your leader “get it" and support, hear you and value your opinion, is what I strive to do at all of my centers each and every day. Being a “hands on” manager is critical to a team’s success. You have to walk the walk and talk the talk. My motto has always been “treat others as they would like to be treated”. Every day can be hard, but each day also can be a new opportunity as well.
She is married to her husband Paul who teaches high school and her and husband have two sons, Alex and Jack. And of course the two dogs.

Kadian S. Russell knew from an early age that she wanted to become a nurse. She was inspired by her high school nurse Ms. Marilyn Adamo. Ms. Adamo was that person many went to even if it was just to get a hug.
After graduating from Northwest Catholic High School in 2000, Kadian went on to pursue her dream at The College of New Rochelle (CNR), in New Rochelle, NY. A few years into the nursing program, she realized that it was not the right fit so she transferred to American International College (AIC) in Springfield, MA. On May 21, 2006, Kadian walked across the stage to receive her Bachelor's of Science in nursing. She realized since nursing school that she loved the trauma and the drama of the emergency room. In August 2006 after passing her NCLEX, she went into the ER as a brand new nurse.
Nursing wasn't Kadian's only passion or interest, forensic science was. In Sept 2009, she enrolled in the Dr. Henry C. Lee Forensic Science program at the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT. In 2012, Kadian received her Master's of Science in Forensic Science.
Today, Kadian continues to work in the ER, but as a travel nurse for the last 5 years. This adventure started as a healing tool when her older brother unexpectedly passed in 2017. Although she continued to help others, Kadian felt that there was more she needed to do. In 2021 while helping to care for her pastor's dying mother, that is when she discovered another passion, hospice.
After osing both paternal grandparents in 2015 and her brother in 2017, she knew she wanted to honor their memory. From this desire, Precious Memories Hospice Homecare, LLC was birthed and the doors opened on February 26, 2022. She will continue to provide exceptional care and live by the motto "where yesterday's memory, is tomorrow's treasure"

During this episode, we converse with the hosts of the 4NP podcast who discuss their individual and collective journey as Nurse Practitioners. Here are Oneida, Colleen, Alicia and Christina. Four women who met in nursing school 17 years ago. They've been through it all: nursing school, work, balancing life, relationships, children, new careers, more education, more new careers and now, this podcast. As nurses they are part of a sisterhood; as friends, we support each other through it all. They've learned the hard way that there isn't much support out there for new nurses/practitioners, so they decided to start this podcast to talk about it. Check out the 4NP Podcast here

Edna Yilma is a nursing student at Quinnipiac University with a passion for health equity and holistic care. An immigrant-generation college student, she saw healthcare disparities and shortages impact her loved ones every day. She believed that coming to the U.S. would solve all these problems, and that in one of the richest countries in the world, the system would help all patients equally. However, she soon found that this was not the case. In 2011, her father had the first of what would be many strokes. She watched as her mother lost everything trying to manage his care and medical bills. Through her own life experiences and my continued nursing education, she has learned the importance of health equity.
Last summer she had the opportunity to work with Johnson and Johnson's diversity, equity, and inclusion team to shape diversity trainings, assist with external equity research, and conduct data analysis on employee membership data. In that role, she networked and made long-lasting connections, truly seeing the value of mentorship. She then went on to work in project management with a focus on health disparity initiatives, where she offered insights to guide the development of the new J&J minority nursing student mentorship program and analyzed member data to shape future events. She hopes to share her experience and interest in health equity and to make a difference for others in this area. An upcoming Oncology Flynn Fellow, Edna is now working towards her dream of propelling the compassionate care she saw nurses provide when her father was ill. She believes that nurses are the heart of healthcare, and that their impact is critical in improving health outcomes.

Dr. Janet A. Williams is a board-certified Nurse Midwife who currently works in full-scope municipal midwifery practice. She received her Doctorate from Wilkes University and her Masters's in Midwifery from SUNY Downstate. She has been a midwife for 18 years, has delivered more than 800 babies and cares for women from puberty to menopause. She continues to be awed by the strength of the women she serves. She holds an appointment from Columbia University as a clinical instructor for graduate level Midwifery students. Her daily interaction with medical students allows her to model how to deliver respectful care and guide them in their first birth experiences. They can observe what normal physiologic birth looks like as they join in as part of the birth team.
Dr. J is the founder of Transitions Women's Health Consulting, LLC, and believes that “babies should go home in their mother’s arms”. Health professionals should partner with women in their care, and advocate for families. She has authored a book to educate mothers about self-care and symptoms to report during the postpartum period entitled “Transitions 4th Trimester Journal …Transforming.”
She believes that we must connect with, listen to, and believe women. It’s a matter of life or death. These ideals have led her to create her signature program “BLACK Mothers Interrupted” which has launched her as a cutting-edge maternal health professional in educating providers of healthcare about implicit bias, and how it affects the care given to women.

In the span of her 20+ year nursing career, Dr. Daihnia Dunkley (aka "Dr. D") has worked extensively in the arena of maternal-child health, leadership, and academia. As she transitioned from bedside nursing to leadership roles, Dr. Dunkley became aware of the inequities within the healthcare system and their impact on patients and practitioners, especially those of color. Subsequently, her focus shifted towards serving as a change agent by advocating for systematic improvement in matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the nursing profession, and eradicating racial health disparities. Her dissertation research focused on the experiences of Black female executive nurse leaders and was the inspiration for founding The League of Extraordinary Black Nurses; a nonprofit organization aimed at supporting current and future Black nurses through the guiding principles of leadership, mentorship, and scholarship.
Additionally, Dr. Dunkley serves as a consultant further advancing her efforts to diversify nursing representation, empower minority nurse leaders, and improve maternal health outcomes. Dr. Dunkley is a well-respected and sought after speaker, whose work and reputation has attracted invitations to several international and domestic conferences and other engagements, including the University of Oxford Women’s Leadership Symposium in London, England, and an appearance on the recently aired BET network documentary, High Risk.

Dr. Vanessa Bolling is a Board- Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 12 years of diverse nursing experience who’s expanded her educational reach to serve as an adjunct faculty for the University of Connecticut’s Family Nurse Practitioner program. Dr. Vanessa offers preventative care and chronic disease management services in a city- based primary care office for patients and families across the lifespan.
In response to declining population health over the years, Dr. Vanessa has pivoted her focus from just treating the disease process to unpacking the mindset and behaviors contributing to worsening disease processes. “If you deal with the root, you can change the fruit!” With this principle guiding her practice, she’s witnessed improvement and resolution of many medical conditions.
Her preventative care passion led to the founding of Kingdom Health Connections, a health promotion resource platform used to raise awareness, empowering individuals in “choosing life”, and the basics of maintaining a healthy life- soul, body, and spirit. Through Kingdom Health Connections, the culture of health and wellness is cultivated for the individual, family, and community.
