"Funerals are for the living". These can be a great chance for pastors to preach to a large number of lost people. Jono and Joe discuss the difficult experiences Jono has had and how to navigate what can be a contentious facet of a pastor's ministry.
Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the Pastor's role in home and hospital visits. It is impossible for one man to handle every visit but it is an important pastoral discipline to practice. This episode focuses on advice and etiquette that is also very applicable to the common church member.
One of the difficulties a pastor may face with new believers is determining if there has been genuine conversion. While we strongly oppose spontaneous baptisms, it can also be dangerous to stand in the way of someone who has been converted out of fear it may not be genuine. This is why baptismal counseling is so important. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the process they have deemed most effective and why it is appropriate to do so.
Cultivating close, intimate relationships with fellow believers is key to a healthy church body. An effective way to promote this is through a small group ministry that provides a place for discussion, fellowship, and outreach opportunities. Organizing and maintaining small groups can be difficult but it is worth doing to further engage your congregation.

Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the ordination council hosted by SMBC examining Brock Kilburn. After growing up in the congregations of SMBC and sister church Christ Baptist, Brock has been voted in as the pastor of Liberty Grove Baptist Church. It's a beautiful and rare example of three churches coming together in solidarity to ensure God's will is followed.
While SMBC continues to seek revival as a church body, Bro. Jono and Joe discuss what revival looks like to an individual and some of its misconceptions. Many christians go through seasons of complacency and mediocrity but it's the responsibility of the believer to continue to seek God's face, repent, and turn from their ways. In 2 Chronicles, God promises that doing so will always lead to revival in the heart of His people.

The truth is that Jesus addresses tithing in the new testament and it is a special act of worship that must not be overlooked. Everything we have comes from God so giving back should be a joy! God has promised to bless those who do so.

Every day, Christians face decisions in their personal lives that require spiritual contemplation and seeking of the Lord's will. Some of these can be guided by scripture but there are many issues that aren't and may be simple preference. Too many churches have been torn apart by superficial disagreements that have no scriptural backing. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss how a Christian must discern the difference and strive for unity in the body regardless of conflicting opinions.

The term "revival" is often attributed to an event or special service dedicated to stirring up emotions. More accurately, revival is something that takes place in the heart of a believer on a daily basis. It is commanded and made possible in scripture to live a spirit filled life which will naturally lead to revival. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss what it means to live a spirit filled life and how a christian must exercise it daily.

Following the observance of The Lord's Supper at Shelbyville Mills, Bro. Jono and Joe go through what the biblical ordinances are and what they are not. There is a proper way to approach the Lord's table and believer's baptism that is being twisted in many modern churches. Taking shortcuts and diluting the integrity of these practices is a rapidly spreading plague through Christianity today.
In a previous episode, Bro. Jono and Joe discussed the importance of keeping Christ your "first love". We are used to using terms like "attraction" and "affection" to describe love in the human nature. What does that look like when applied to your love for Christ? Although emotions and feelings are not indicative of true salvation, they are a natural part of the christian's walk. A love for Jesus will manifest itself in a love for the things that He loves i.e. the church, scripture, the gospel and even the lost.
This one attribute of Jesus is what sets Christianity apart from the other religions of the world. Our God is worthy. Of your focus, love, time, and life. To assign "worth" to anything else in your life is to put something before Jesus and a vain pursuit. Bro. Jono sits down with Bro. Ryan Tilghman to discuss his sermon on Revelation 5 and the true power of what it means to be "worthy".

Worthy Is The Lamb - Revelation 5
Recorded on location from Youth Camp, Bro. Jono sits down with Bro. Don Singleton to discuss this years theme "The Gospel". The beauty of the gospel lies in its simplicity, but there are details and complexities that are often overlooked and may provide you a new perspective. The death and resurrection of Christ is the basis of the gospel but Bro. Don breaks down how other aspects, i.e. the burial, ascension, exaltation, and second coming, equally contribute to its miraculous nature.

Instilling sound doctrine and a love for the church in our Youth produces the next generation of leaders, teachers, deacons and pastors. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the upcoming annual Youth Camp and the fruit that comes from a healthy focused youth ministry.
It is the responsibility of all Christians to be a good steward of God's provision for you. Like many disciplines, when handled poorly it can be the downfall of a pastors personal life and ultimately his entire ministry. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the practical ways any christian can take control of their finances, be faithful with their giving, and exercise good money management.
The practice of church membership is clearly laid out in the early church as a means of accountability. It is the foundation of any local church and provides security to its members to know that they are with a body of like minded believers. Many churches are so wrapped up in numbers that they accept anyone with no questions asked. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the pitfalls of open acceptance and the best practices for keeping a healthy membership.
Coming directly after preaching Bro. Jeff Noblit's 40th anniversary celebration at Grace Life of The Shoals, Bro. Jono and Joe discuss what it means to show your pastor "double honor". A topic that many pastors may find self-serving, this is essential for a congregation to understand and practice. Financial generosity is a good indication of a healthy, biblical church whether it's supporting a pastor, or giving to world missions.
Bro. Jono introduces us to his family and reflects on his experiences as a father. Coming on the heels of marrying his youngest daughter off, he discusses all the emotions that come along with parenthood and through practical and spiritual examples, examines the principles of Godly parenting and household relationships.
True worship is an active, audible, intelligent act. It is reserved for the holiness of our Lord, to an extent we won't fully realize until we are before the throne. Though singing is a central part of worship, the emphasis should always be on the preaching of the word and many churches find themselves getting this backwards to cater to the masses. When musical styles and preferences get involved, it is easy for your worship to become man-centered entertainment. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss how the modern day church has allowed emotion to replace reverence and emphasis on true worship.

Worship Around God's Throne Pt. 1&2 - Revelation 4
Too many pastors have had their mental, spiritual, and physical health decline because of their refusal to rest. This can also be damaging to their families, and in the end, cost them everything. The bible places just as much emphasis on taking time off to rest as any other doctrinal staple, and to overlook it is to be disobedient to God's word. This is an easy topic for pastors to underestimate and it can make or break a ministry. Bro. Jono and Joe discuss the importance of taking your off days, vacations, and sabbaticals.

Feeding off the harsh rebuke of Jesus towards the church at Laodicea (biblical terminology translates to “vomit”[Revelation 3:14-22]) Brother Jono and Joe discuss what the term "lukewarm christianity" means and how it has evolved with the culture. To remain vibrant and healthy, the church today must resist the temptation to follow societies temperament. The standard of Christ is high and the price can be lofty but there are no shortcuts to obedience. This episode marks the last of the study of the 7 churches in Asia Minor.

In Revelation 3, Jesus addresses the church at Sardis referring to them as a "dead church". This is a church that outwardly seems healthy but is not experiencing sanctification. Jono and Joe discuss how sanctification is an active, progressive process that requires participation from the believer.

Many Christians believe that their love of Jesus is assumed with their salvation. Far too often, however, we lose sight of where our priorities should lie. Bro. Jono recaps his message from his exposition through Revelation and implores Christians, and Churches as a general body, to remember their first love. After delving into the focus of the passage, Jono steps back and addresses other gleanings from the same text. This is a deeper look into how a pastor should approach a text and how much of his personal study should translate to the pulpit.
Be encouraged, humbled, and challenged to return to your first love and allow that to guide your leadership of the local church.
