Matt answers that those with international degrees must be aware that the smaller and more regional the institution is, the more that institution may not have experience with hiring candidates with international degrees and sponsorships. Larger state institutions are likely to have more experience with hiring candidates with international degrees and experience with sponsorships.

Performance appraisals are often demotivating and negative. So how can job seekers find out if an office or department still uses performance appraisals? Lee advises that job seekers do their due diligence in finding out if the office they are seeking to work in has sound leadership, “interview the organization, and the leader, as they're interviewing you.”
