Soon after the sandstorm passes the gang sees a UFO and must investigate. The gang walks into the nearest town to look for help with their damaged Mystery Machine and learn from the people of the town that UFO’s are a common sight and are causing residents to leave the town. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off our Cartoon June with a gem from the 1960s! We’re discussing Gay Purr-ee with special guest and friend of the podcast Reggie! The film follows a young cat named Mewsette who lives in the rural countryside of Provence. Mewsette is in love with the dashing tomcat Jaune Tom who is also head over heels for her. When Mewsette’s owner’s sister comes to visit and regales stories of living in beautiful Paris Mewsette decides she must visit the big city. Jaune Tom learns Mewsette has left the farm and chases her all the way to Paris in the hopes of convincing her to return home. This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our Star Wars Month with the final film of the sequel trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker! The film begins with Kylo Ren obtaining a Sith Wayfinder that takes him to the mysterious planet of Exegol where he discovers the evil Emperor Palpatine is alive-ish. Meanwhile Rey is continuing her Jedi training now with Leia but when word comes in from an intelligence spy in the first order that Palpatine is alive on Exegol and wants Rey dead, the Resistance must act fast. Rey remembers reading in Luke’s notes that a Sith Wayfinder can help guide them to the Sith and she’s determined to find her way to face Palpatine. Kylo continues to struggle with his pull to the light side of the force while Rey fears she’ll be dragged into the dark side of the force. Join us for this fun conclusion of Star Wars Month as we dive into the world of The Rise of Skywalker.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Star Wars: The Last Jedi! The film takes place immediately after the events of The Force Awakens, The First Order is chasing down The Resistance after the battle on Starkiller base. Kylo Ren and his wingmen are able to catch up with one of the Resistance ships and when Kylo hesitates to destroy the ship because he senses his mother Princess Leia onboard, one of his wingmen takes the shot and destroys the ship. Far far away on the planet of Ahch-To Rey is with Luke trying to convince him to return to the Resistance who desperately need his help. Luke refuses to return and slowly Rey is able to break down the wall he’s built and learn the true reason why he’s afraid to return. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Star Wars: The Force Awakens! The film takes place thirty years after the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the Galactic Empire. A new threat has emerged in the galaxy The First Order which is picking up where the Empire left off. General Leia Organa the leader of The Resistance must continue to fight to keep the galaxy safe while searching for her brother Luke who has disappeared. Resistance pilot Poe Dameron travels to a desert planet called Jakku to retrieve a part of a map that will lead to the location of Luke Skywalker. While on Jakku Poe is apprehended by The First Order and taken to their leader Kylo Ren who tortures Poe for information about the map. This month at The Film Club we’re talking about Star Wars! And to begin the month what better way than starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace! The film follows Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his young padawan apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi who are on a mission to negotiate the end of the federation blockade of the planet Naboo. When the two Jedi realize the negotiations were a trap they escape their captors, while on the run Qui-Gon saves the life of a clumsy Gungan named Jar Jar Binks. Jar Jar offers to take Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to his secret city so the Jedi can convince the Gungans to unite with the people of Naboo to battle against the Federation. This week at The Film Club we conclude Hollywood Epics Month with a modern day epic, Zack Synder’s Justice League! The film follows the events that occur after the recent death of Superman, his death awakens Mother Boxes that have been hidden across the universe for a millennia. The strength of the Mother Boxes combined would create a duplicate version of Earth ruled by the evil Darkseid who originally tried invading earth a millennia ago with his Parademons but failed miserably when the Olympian Gods, Amazons, Atlanteans, Humans, and Extraterrestrials unified to save humanity. Disgraced Steppenwolf Lieutenant of Darkseid vows to retrieve the boxes to get back in Darkseids good graces. When Steppenwolf obtains the first box from the Amazons, the Amazons send a signal to Diana Prince that the universe is in danger. Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne begin working together to build a team to save the universe and with the small in numbers team they’re able to pull together they all know they need the Man of Steel to comeback from the dead to save the day once again. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about one of the greatest Hollywood epics and films of all time, Lawrence of Arabia! The film tells the story of T.E. Lawrence a British Army Lieutenant during the First World War. While serving in Cairo Lawrence gains the opportunity to go to Arabia to assess the prospects of Prince Faisal and his revolt against the Turks. Lawrence is chosen for this mission because of his knowledge of the land and the culture. While Lawrence is getting to know Prince Faisal and his troops, Colonel Brighton who has been working with the Prince tries to convince him to retreat from battle after surviving a massive defeat. Lawrence however contradicts the Colonel and suggests a surprise attack which fortunately pays off gaining an important port town that the British can arrive in to bring supplies. This win gains Lawrence the respect of Prince Faisal and his men and begins an arduous journey through the desert with many battles on the horizon. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off the month of April with a new theme, Hollywood Epics! We begin this month with the epic that almost broke a studio, Cleopatra. The film takes place in 48 BC after the Battle of Pharsalus, Julius Caesar travels to Egypt under the pretext of being named the executor of the will of the recently deceased pharaoh. Upon his arrival he meets the new Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII and his sister Cleopatra VII (whom he deposed so he could become supreme ruler of Egypt). Cleopatra knows she must gain favor from Caesar to regain her power as Queen of Egypt and in the process the two fall in love. When Cleopatra’s brother attempts to have her assassinated Caesar has him banished, then declaring Cleopatra the sole ruler of Egypt. Cleopatra and Caesar soon have a son named Caesarion but Caesar must return back home to Italy and will not see his child or Cleopatra for three long years. When Cleopatra and Caesar reunite it ends in tragedy and years after this tragic event a new love sparks between Cleopatra and Caesar’s protégé Mark Antony. This week at The Film Club we’re concluding Musical March with a mean green musical from outer space, Little Shop of Horrors! The film follows Seymour Krelborn who works at Mushnik’s Flower Shop on Skid Row in New York. The flower shop is financially struggling and when Mr Mushnik informs Seymour and fellow coworker Audrey that the shop must close for good, Seymour has an idea to save the shop. Seymour discovers a unique plant while shopping at the local flower district that had suddenly appeared during a solar eclipse, intrigued by this new discovery Seymour knows its potential can be a game changer. The new plant sweetly named Audrey 2 is displayed in the front window of Mushniks and to the surprise of the staff people show up to the shop to see this new oddity. With business now booming and Audrey 2 starting to wilt Seymour must figure out what this rare plant needs to eat and to Seymour’s surprise this plant needs human blood to thrive. The film tells the story of newly engaged couple Brad and Janet who are on quick trip to celebrate their engagement with their former professor whose class was the first time they met. On their journey they get a flat tire and without a spare they must walk back to a castle that they had previously passed and ask to use their phone. Upon entering the castle Brad and Janet realize quickly that this is the beginning of a night they will never forget. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off our Musical March with a 70s Cult Classic, Phantom of the Paradise! In this episode we’re joined by new guest Cielo and Brother of the Podcast Randy! The film tells the story of song writer Winslow Leach who is passionate about music and is offered the opportunity to present his music to legendary music producer Swan of Death Records. Winslow is beyond excited about this chance however Swan steals the music and produces it through one of his bands. Winslow sneaks into Swan’s mansion to see if he can get an answer about his music unknowingly he’s been robbed of his music and Swan has Winslow falsely imprisoned so he can keep Winslow from ruining his plans of opening a club called the Paradise. While in prison Winslow hears his music on the radio being covered by one of Swan’s bands and Winslow loses his mind leading him to break out of jail. The following series of events after breaking out of jail end up with Winslow having an accident and disfiguring himself as well as destroying his vocal cords. More determined than ever Winslow must stop Swan. Join us as we dive into the world of Phantom of the Paradise.
This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our Johnny Depp month with his musical slasher film, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street! The film follows Sweeney Todd formerly Benjamin Barker a barber who was falsely imprisoned and separated from his family for fifteen years. After becoming Sweeney Todd he returns to London to find his wife and daughter as well as get his revenge on Judge Turpin the man that exiled him. After finally making it back to the building that he used to call home he meets a woman named Mrs Lovett who runs a Meat Pie Shop on the ground floor. Mrs Lovett recognizes who Sweeney really is and relays the tragedy that his family faced after he was taken away, and she reunites him with his straight razors which will begin his journey of revenge. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl! The film follows three protagonists: Elizabeth Swann daughter of Governor Weatherby Swann, William Turner a Blacksmith Apprentice, and Captain Jack Sparrow one of the best pirates around. The three are destined to meet each other, Elizabeth and Will meet as children when Will is involved in a shipwreck and the ship Elizabeth is on rescues him. The two grow up in the same port town and develop feelings for each other but can’t be together because of the different class statuses. When Elizabeth is proposed to by the newly promoted Commodore of the Navy the proposal is interrupted when Captain Jack Sparrow arrives and tries to commandeer one of the Naval Ships. After the ruckus Captain Jack causes in Port Royal things get worse later that night when the Black Pearl arrives to the Port and its pirate crew begins to pillage the town while ultimately kidnapping Elizabeth. Will is desperate to rescue Elizabeth and reaches out to Captain Jack to help him and will inevitably learn he and Jack aren’t so different after all. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s wild novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The film follows writer Raoul Duke and his attorney Dr. Gonzo as they race through the desert to get to Las Vegas where Duke has a race to cover for a magazine. As the two are speeding through the desert in a red convertible with a truck full of drugs they stop to pick up a hitchhiker. Duke and Gonzo begin talking to the hitchhiker about their plans in Vegas but in their manic state they scare the hitchhiker who when gets the opportunity jumps out of the car and runs for his life. Duke and Gonzo are terrified that the hitchhiker will go to the police and tell them about the drugs, in their impaired state they decide getting to Vegas as fast as possible is the best way to stay under the radar. Join us for this wild ride as we dive into the world of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
This month at The Film Club we’re focusing on the career of Johnny Depp! And this week we’re kicking off Johnny Depp Month with a guest episode featuring first time guest Dyllan discussing Depp’s first film, A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film follows a group teens who are being tormented in their dreams by a sinister man. One of the girls in the group Tina, has a terrible dream about this mystery man and pleads her friends to spend the night at her house so she doesn’t feel alone in her empty home. Nancy and Glen are Tina’s friends and agree to sleep over because they’re concerned but Nancy has also dreamed about this man. The night of the sleepover Tina’s on again off again boyfriend shows up at her house to hang out with the gang and reveals he’s dreamt of this man too but as the night falls they must go sleep. Tina encounters the dream man first and it’s a fight for survival that wakes up the entire household, but can her friends save her from something they can’t see? Join us as we dive into the world of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
This week at The Film Club we have our first guest episode of the year with brother of the podcast Randy! And we’re discussing the 1927 Academy Award winning film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans. The film tells the story of a married couple who are struggling with the monotony of every day life. The wife is still invested in her marriage but her husband however is having an affair with a city woman who wants to bring him back to the big city. The husband’s mistress tries to convince him to murder his wife, sell their farm, and abandon his child so he can have a fresh start with her. The husband is tormented with this plan that the mistress has concocted and really has to soul search whether he’s capable of doing such a thing. Join us as we dive into the world of Sunrise.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Metropolis! The film takes place in a dystopian future where the wealthy industrialists live in high rises. Meanwhile the workers who keep the city running as well as building it live beneath the city. A man named Freder is the son of the wealthy city mayor Joh. Freder loves sports and spending time in the beautiful gardens but his carefree life is interrupted when he meets a woman named Maria who has entered the garden he’s spending time in to show the children of the workers below the city the lavish lifestyle of the people who live above them. Freder is so beguiled by Maria that he follows her to the lower levels of the city and begins to work a manual labor job so he can get to know Maria. In the lower level of the city also lives an inventor named Rotwang who is building a robotic woman in the hopes to bring his lost love back to life. Rotwang decides to use Maria as the model for his robot but secretly he’s creating this robot so it can destroy Metropolis. Join us as we dive into the world of Metropolis.
Happy 2024! This month at The Film Club we’re talking about Silent Films and this week we’re talking about The Gold Rush. The film follows a lone prospector who gets lost in a blizzard and stumbles across an abandoned cabin. He discovers that the cabin is not abandoned and belongs to a wanted criminal who is hiding out from the law. Begrudgingly the criminal lets the lone prospector stay in the cabin when another prospector named Jim also comes stumbling into the cabin and poses a bigger threat to the criminal. With the blizzard raging and food gone the three men draw straws to see who will have to leave the cabin in search for food. The criminal loses the draw and begins his hunt for food. After a long time of waiting both prospector’s leave the cabin Jim leaves to find his lost gold deposit while the lone prospector finds his way to the nearest town where he meets a beautiful girl. Georgia is a dance hall girl who is in love with a ladies man named Jack, and to make Jack jealous she dances with the lone prospector and immediately the prospector falls in love with Georgia which begins a feud with Jack. Join us as we dive into the world of The Gold Rush.

After his first directing gig slips through his fingers fate strikes when Ed unexpectedly meets his favorite actor Bela Lugosi. Ed and Bela strike up a friendship, this friendship leads to the two filming Glen or Glenda. The film flops but this box office failure doesn’t discourage Ed, it makes him want to create more films with Bela. Ed’s filmmaking journey isn’t a simple one it’s filled with financial issues, addiction, heartbreak, rejection and unbreakable determination. Join us as we dive into the world of Ed Wood.
Happy December! This month is a Spotlight Directors Month all about Tim Burton! This week we’re talking about Tim Burton’s first feature film, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. The film follows Pee-wee Herman an eccentric young man who loves his red bicycle. His bicycle is also beloved by Pee-wee’s nemesis Francis who offers to buy the bike but is quickly rejected by Pee-wee. Soon after Francis’ offer Pee-wee’s bike is stolen and with little help on finding his bike Pee-wee sets out the ultimate adventure to find his bike. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the Coen Brothers dramady, A Serious Man. The film tells the story of Larry Gopnik a Physics Professor, husband, and father whose life is falling apart. After dealing with a failing student who wants to pay for an A grade, Larry returns home to discover that his wife wants a divorce and wants to marry someone else. Shell shocked by this revelation from his wife Larry also is helping his out of work brother Arthur whom is living on Larry’s couch as he works on a map of the universe. Things only get worse for Larry and after many suggestions from multiple people in his community Larry seeks the help of three Rabbis to get some help with his imploding life. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the 1980’s western classic, Pale Rider! The film follows a man named Preacher who arrives in a small town in Carbon Canyon California that’s become a mining town. Preacher mysteriously arrives after one of the children of the town prays for a miracle after her mining camp she lives in is brutally attacked and her dog is killed. The thugs behind this heinous attack are lead by a man named Coy LaHood who is a mining baron and wants the gold in the town to himself. When a man named Hull leaves the mining camp to go into town for supplies he’s beaten by LaHood’s henchmen until Preacher appears and fights them all off with only an axe handle. Hull is so grateful to his rescuer he invites him back to camp for dinner and Preacher decides to stay with Hull to help the camp with some of their mining. After more attacks from LaHoods thugs and attempts to run the camp out of town Preacher knows he has to put on the gun belt again to defeat LaHood. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off our Newvember Series with a twist, all of the films this month will be picked by our guests! This episode is all about the A24 film Under the Silver Lake. The film follows Sam an artist living in Silver Lake who’s aimlessly floating through life while occasionally indulging in conspiracies and hidden messages in pop culture. On the heels of being evicted from his apartment Sam notices a new neighbor and is compelled to meet her. Once he meets his new neighbor Sarah she invites him into her apartment where they hangout for a while before she boots him out when her roommate’s and a mysterious pirate return to the apartment. With promise of plans to hangout again the following day Sam is shocked when he returns to Sarah’s apartment and it’s completely empty. Stunned by her sudden disappearance he breaks into the apartment and discovers a box in her closet containing a few personal items including a photo of herself and if things weren’t confusing enough Sam finds an odd marking painted on her bedroom wall. Sam is compelled to find Sarah and begins to unravel clues all throughout Los Angeles which leads him to a dangerous world not too many people know exist. He discovers a new land, Christmas Land and falls in love with everything he sees. Determined Jack decides that he and his town can make Christmas better than Santa can. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the Queen of Halloween, Elvira Mistress of the Dark! The film tells the story of Horror TV Host Elvira Mistress of the Dark who aspires to be a Las Vegas Show Girl in her very own show. Elvira quits her hosting gig when she’s sexually assaulted by the new owner of the TV Station and after she quits she receives a telegram informing her that her Great Aunt Morgana has passed away. The telegram also reveals that Elvira is listed as a beneficiary in her Aunt’s estate and she must travel to Fallwell, Massachusetts to claim her inheritance that could help her pave the way to her dreams in Las Vegas. When Elvira arrives in Fallwell it’s a quaint conservative town with unfriendly people despite the teens of the town who are excited to see someone cool arrive to their sleepy town. During the reading of the will Elvira discovers she has a Great Uncle Vincent as well inheriting her Great Aunt’s house, spell book, and her beloved dog Gonk. Disappointed that she didn’t inherit money to use towards her show in Vegas, she learns from her Aunt’s Attorney that if she repairs the home she could potentially sell the home for $100,000. Determined with this new information she begins to renovate the home with the help of the friendly local teens while at the same time Great Uncle Vinny is trying to get the spell book from Elvira through his cronies. But not all is as it seems in Fallwell when Elvira learns that witchcraft is in her family. Join us for this wild ride in the world of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the 80s horror comedy classic, Beetlejuice! The film tells the story of two families The Maitlands the recently deceased and The Deetzes the living who are fighting to live in the same house. After the Maitlands tragic death they face more heart break when a new family moves into their beloved home, but determined to scare out the new occupants they hire a bioexorcist to do the job. This bioexorcist however is a monster that will wreak havoc on the living and the dead. Join us for this fun filled guest episode as we dive into the world of Beetlejuice.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about Young Frankenstein! The film tells the story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Fronkensteen) the grandson of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein. After journeying to Transylvania to see his great grandfather’s estate Frederick meets his new lab assistants Igor and Inga, along with the woman who runs the estate Frau Blucher. After years of trying to remove himself from his families history Frederick finds himself curious about how his grandfather created his creature and after finding his grandfathers research Frederick knows he can do the same experiment. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off October with a new theme, Horror Comedies! To start this month of comedies we’re talking about an oldie but a goodie, Arsenic and Old Lace. The film follows Mortimer Brewster a writer and notorious denouncer of marriage has fallen in love with his neighbor Elaine and is secretly eloping with her on Halloween. After the newlyweds tie the knot they return home to pack for their honeymoon as well as tell their families their exciting news when Mortimer discovers his aunts who raised him since childhood have been hiding a secret from him. While packing Mortimer finds a corpse hidden in the house, bewildered he desperately tries to figure out how the body ended up in the home and the truth is unbelievable. Join us for this hilarious ride as we dive into the world of Arsenic and Old Lace.
This week at The Film Club we are concluding David Lynch month with a guest episode talking about a film that’s regarded as one of Lynch’s finest films, Mulholland Drive. The film takes place in the Hollywood Hills where a woman survives a deadly car crash, though she has minor injuries she does forget her identity. She makes the long treck back to Los Angeles on foot and sees a woman finishing the final touches of moving out of her apartment. The dazed woman seizes her opportunity to sneak into the newly vacant apartment for safety however she doesn’t realize that she isn’t alone. An aspiring actress named Betty Elms has just arrived in Los Angeles and is on her way to move into her aunt’s vacant apartment and discovers there is a stranger in the apartment. After the shock of discovering each other in the apartment the dazed woman quickly explains that she’s been in an accident and can’t remember who she is. Betty is determined to help the dazed woman and things take a turn when Betty finds a stack of cash and mysterious blue key in the dazed woman’s purse. Join us as we dive into the world of Mulholland Drive.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the romantic crime drama, Wild at Heart. The film tells the story of star crossed lovers Sailor and Lula who are torn away from each other when Sailor goes to jail after killing a man who was attacking him with a knife. Lula’s mother was the person who hired the knife wielding man because she wanted Sailor out of her daughter’s life forever but Lula’s love for Sailor is unbreakable and she is there waiting for him when he’s finally released from jail. To make Lula happy Sailor decides to break his probation and travel cross country to take Lula to California. This journey becomes more treacherous when the lovers not only have to evade the police but also a private detective that Lula’s mother hires to track them down and bring Lula home. Things become more dangerous for all the parties involved when Lula’s mother in a state of hysteria also hires a gangster to kill Sailor in case the private detective can’t find the couple fast enough. This week at The Film Club we have a guest episode and we’re talking about the Neo-Noir mystery film, Blue Velvet. The film follows Jeffrey Beaumont a college student who has returned to his hometown of Lumberton, North Carolina after his father suffers a massive heart attack. While walking home from the hospital Jeffrey discovers a severed human ear in an abandoned lot, Jeffrey then decides to take the ear to the local police department. After depositing the ear at the police station Jeffrey learns from a detective’s daughter (Sandy Williams) that the ear is related to a lounge singer named Dorthy Vallens. Jeffrey needs to know how Dorthy is connected and he concocts a plan to break into her apartment to look for evidence. While Jeffrey is in Dorthy’s apartment searching for clues Sandy is being the lookout but unfortunately Jeffrey doesn’t hear her warning signal as Dorthy returns back home. This week at The Film Club we’re celebrating the month of September Dean’s birthday month with one of his favorite Directors! September is all about David Lynch movies and we’re starting off the month with one of his greatest films, The Elephant Man. The film takes place in late 19th century London where we meet surgeon Frederick Treves who is wandering through a Victorian Freak Show and comes across an exhibit that is being guarded by police. Frederick pays the owner of the exhibit to see “The Elephant Man” and discovers John Merrick who is severely deformed and being abused by Mr. Bytes the exhibit owner. Frederick is able to convince Mr. Bytes to let him take John to his hospital so he can receive an examination, Bytes becomes enraged when John returns to him and beats him so badly Bytes is forced to return John to Frederick’s hospital. While John is recovering at the hospital Frederick learns that John is able to speak and write. John comes out of his shell more as time passes and begins encountering people of high society who have read about his story in the newspaper. Although it’s not just high society that have read about John, a man named Jim is a night porter at the hospital and begins to torment John while concocting a plan to charge people from his local pub to see John in his hospital apartment. This plan by Jim is overheard by Mr. Bytes and he uses this opportunity to kidnap John. Frederick discovers that John is missing and begins his hunt to bring John back home. This week at The Film Club we’re concluding our Mummy Franchise Month with the film that was supposed to be the beginning of the Dark Universe, The Mummy (the Tom Cruise one; not the 1999 cinematic classic). The film takes place in present day London where a construction crew discovers a lost tomb of Crusader Knights and amongst the crusaders is an Egyptian Ruby belonging to an Egyptian Princess named Ahmanent. Princess Ahmanent’s tomb is discovered in Iraq by U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Morton and Corporal Chris Vail who also happen to be treasure hunters. While exploring the tomb of Ahmanet they’re joined by Archaeologist Jenny Halsey who has history with Nick. While exploring the tomb Nick sets off a trap and accidentally brings Ahmanet back to life and even worse gets Chris possessed while getting himself cursed into doing Ahmanet’s bidding. Join us as we dive into the world of The Mummy 2017.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about the final installment of The Mummy Trilogy, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The film takes place a decade after the events of The Mummy Returns, we learn that Rick and Evie have retired from adventuring. Their son Alex is on an archaeological dig and helps discover The Dragon Emperor’s tomb. While exploring the tomb traps are set off killing people apart of the dig and Alex encounters a mysterious woman who is trying to keep the emperor concealed from the archaeologists. Rick and Evie are now on their way to Shanghai to deliver an ancient artifact called The Eye of Shangri-La. When Rick and Evie land they decide to visit Evie’s brother Jonathan who happens to own a nightclub in Shanghai that’s named “Imhotep” and to their surprise they run into their son Alex who has a strained relationship with them. Things take a fast turn when the O’Connells discover they’ve been set up to not only find the resting place of the Emperor but also the artifact they brought to Shanghai was a tool to waking up the Emperor. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about The Mummy Returns the sequel to the 1999 classic The Mummy. The Mummy Returns takes place ten years after the events of The Mummy, Rick O’Connell and Evie Carnahan (now O’Connell) are married with a son named Alex. The O’Connell family are explorers who travel and explore ancient ruins however during their latest exploration they discover the Bracelet of Anubis. The Bracelet of Anubis was worn by the Scorpion King which gave him the power of control over Anubis’ Army. What Rick and Evie don’t know is that they aren’t the only ones looking for the bracelet and when they arrive home after their exploration they’re surprised with an attack by a cult who is determined to raise Imhotep from the dead so he can defeat the Scorpion King. During this cult attack Rick and Evie’s son Alex is kidnapped by the cult and is being taken to the long lost ancient temple of the Scorpion King. This month at The Film Club we’re talking about The Mummy Franchise! And this week we’re going back to Hamunaptra and talking about the 1999 classic The Mummy. The film tells the story of Imhotep a high priest in Ancient Egypt who falls in love with Anck-su-namun the fiancé of the Pharaoh Seti I and when caught the lovers kill the Pharaoh. Imoteph is put to death and cursed, this leaves the Medjai to protect Imhoteph’s resting place so he cannot be brought back to life. We jump to the 1920s when treasure hunters are pursuing the city of the dead Hamunaptra and they aren’t the only ones headed to the city of the dead Evelyn and her brother Jonathan Carnahan are also making the trek to Hamunaptra after Jonathan steals an accent key with a map to the cursed city. After the map is partially destroyed Jonathan knows who to contract to get him and his sister to Hamunaptra an adventurer named Rick O’ Connell who was the original owner of the key and has been to Hamunaptra before with the French Foreign Legion. This week at The Film Club we’re concluding Foreign Films Month with a guest episode that discusses the sci-fi epic that is Stalker. Stalker directed by Andrei Tarkovsky tells the story of a man who acts as a Stalker leading people to a forbidden extraterrestrial place called the Zone. In the zone there’s a building called the Room that allegedly grants wishes to those who enter. The stalker has been to the zone many times and survived his journeys and despite his wife’s pleas he goes back to the zone again to guide two men, the Writer and the Professor. The three survive soldiers, traps, and more danger which leads them to the room. But will their wishes come true? Join us as we dive into the world of Stalker.
This week at The Film Club we’re talking about one of the most influential films of all time, Seven Samurai. The film takes place in 1586 in a farming village that is struggling to survive because of relentless attacks from bandits. The bandits threaten to destroy the village when the next harvest arrives, which leads the villagers into having to ask the samurai for help saving their village. This daunting task of asking for help is a struggle with many rejections but when an elder ronin comes into town he decides to take this scared farm community under his wing and begins assembling a team of talented samurai. Our ronin Kambei assembles a team of seven unique samurai and helps prepare the farmers and the village itself for the upcoming war with the bandits. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about a Jean Renoir classic, The Grand Illusion. The film takes place in a German prison camp during the First World War and we follow a group of French soldiers who have been brought to the camp to serve time. Upon arrival the soldiers meet the aristocrat German Officer Von Rauffenstien who immediately connects with the French Captain Boeldieu who also has his ties to the world of aristocracy. The French soldiers do what they can to keep their new everyday life positive while they are secretly digging their way out to freedom. Join us as we dive into the world of The Grand Illusion.
This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off a new month with a new theme and new series: Foreign Films Month! Our first installment is the German expressionist film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The film tells the story of Best Friends Francis and Alan who are visiting a carnival, they encounter a peculiar man named Dr. Caligari who is one of the acts at the carnival. Caligari wows the crowd with a hypnotized man named Cesare that he keeps in a cabinet and when Cesare is awoken he can predict the future. Alan takes the opportunity to challenge Cesare and asks when he will die, much to Alan’s surprise Cesare responds with by morning. Francis is devastated the next day when he learns that Alan has been murdered and he’s determined that Cesare is the murderer. But is Cesare really guilty? This week at The Film Club we’re concluding Animation Month with a Pixar film about magic, dragons, family, and a sweet van, we’re talking about Onward! The film tells the story of elf brothers Ian and Barley who are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime when they receive a gift from their late father on Ian’s sixteenth birthday. The gift is a wizard’s staff and a Phoenix gem that can conjure a spell to bring back their father for twenty four hours. This journey they take is not a safe one but with Barley being an expert of lore and role playing games he’s the ultimate guide to get Ian to the stone while Ian is learning that he has magical powers and must learn how to use them to bring their dad back. This week at The Film Club we’re talking about a true blast from the past and gem of a film, The Pagemaster. The film tells the story of Richard Tyler who is a very scared kid who loves statistics but doesn’t fit in with the kids in his neighborhood. This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off our first ever Animation Month with a stone cold classic, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. The film tells the story of the Mystery Inc Gang who have retired from ghost hunting and have started new business ventures. This week at The Film Club we conclude April with a bonus episode and it’s all about Sidney Poitier’s directorial debut film, Buck and the Preacher. The film tells the story of Buck a former Civil War Union Army Sergeant who is now a self employed Wagon Master guiding wagon trains of freed slaves to the West Coast. Buck is familiar with the Western region and has a good relationship with the Indigenous people of the region striking up a deal for his wagon party to have safe passage through the region to eventually settle down and create a new home. Things unfortunately don’t go as planned when the wagon trail continuously gets attacked by Rogues who are hired by former slave owners. Buck is almost captured by these rogues and in the attempt to lose them he runs into a man called Preacher and pleads to swap horses with him to evade the rogues. Buck and Preacher begin to work together after a rocky beginning to their relationship but both are determined to save the wagon train from the rogues. Can Buck and Preacher get the people of the wagon train to safety? Or are there too many rogues waiting to strike? Join us as we dive into the world of Buck and the Preacher.

This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off Western Month with one of the most popular Western films, Stagecoach. The film tells the story of nine strangers who board a stagecoach in Tonto, Arizona and are trying to make it to Lordsburg, New Mexico. Ringo Kid joins the packed stagecoach and goes along on their tumultuous journey. Can the stagecoach make its way through the war zone that is in front of them and arrive in Lourdsburg? This week at The Film Club we’re talking the Baz Luhrmann Jukebox musical epic, Moulin Rouge! The film tells the story of a young English poet Christian who moves to Paris during the height of the Bohemian revolution. Upon arrival Christian meets his Bohemian neighbors who are trying to write a play that can be performed at the Moulin Rouge. The Bohemians come up with an idea to dress Christian up as a successful writer in the hopes that he can convince Harold Zidler the proprietor of the Moulin Rouge to allow Christian to produce the play. This plan includes Christian meeting Satine the star of the Moulin Rouge who aspires to be an actress and also is close to Zidler. On the night of the meeting Zidler and Satine have their own meeting with a Duke who they’re trying to persuade to invest in the Moulin Rouge. On this fateful night Satine meet’s Christian and mistakes him for the Duke. During this mishap Christian and Satine fall in love complicating matters because Zidler promises Satine to the Duke during their investment agreement. Satine and Christian hide their relationship from the Duke during the production of the play in the hopes of running away together after the play premieres. Will Christian and Satine’s plan work? Or is the Duke too powerful? Join us as we dive into the world of the Moulin Rouge!

R falls head over heels for Julie and saves her from his fellow zombies who have now consumed her friends. R and Julie get to now each other and realize maybe the undead can change. Things however are not as simple as they seem when in this post apocalyptic world the zombies aren’t the biggest threat out there. Can R change back into a human? This week at The Film Club we're talking about the Miyazaki classic, Princess Mononoke. The film tells the story of Ashitaka a warrior who becomes cursed and is exiled from his beloved village, after being exiled he goes on a quest to find out how to break this curse. On his journey he realizes the strength the curse has given him but knows he can't give into the curse because it will completely change him. Along the way Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between civilization and nature, its at this time that he meets Lady Eboshi and her community who have weapons to destroy the forrest creatures. Ashitaka soon after meets Princess Mononoke (San) who while human recognizes herself as an animal because she was raised by a wolf god, San hates humans and is ready for war against Lady Eboshi. Ashitaka struggles not only with the curse but also understands where both sides are coming from and he's determined to find resoultion in a peaceful way. This week at The Film Club we conclude our John Carpenter Month with the iconic film, They Live. The film tells the story of Nada who arrives in Los Angeles looking for work and is taken in by homeless community who is close to a church organization. This isn't a normal church they are secretly trying to save humanity from alien invaders who are posing as everyday individuals. After the church is taken over by the "police" Nada decides to investigate the now deserted church, in a crawl space he finds a single box. After taking the box away from wandering eyes he discovers its filled with only sunglasses, while disappointed with his discovery he keeps one pair of glasses and begins to wander the streets of LA. To Nada's shock when he wears the glasses they reveal the truth about this invasion. Can Nada get people to see whats really happening to society? This week at The Film Club we're talking about a scifi romantic drama and also a really underrated film, Starman. Starman tells the story of widow Jenny Hayden who is struggling with the death of her husband when suddenly an extraterrestrial lands not to far from her home and clones the body of her late husband. Jenny can't believe her eyes when she first sees the reincarnation of her late husband Scott but soon she learns this is not her husband and she's dealing with something out of this world. The film takes place in the distant future of 1997 in Manhattan, New York where the once populated city has been turned into the country's only maximum security prison. A prisoner who happens to be an Ex Soldier named Snake Plissken is brought in to save the President with the catch of having only 24 hours to complete this task or he will face immanent death. This week at The Film Club we're kicking off our John Carpenter Month with his action suspense thriller Assault on Precinct 13. The film is about a ruthless LA Gang who are wreaking havoc across Los Angeles and their antics lead them into a war with a soon to be closed down precinct. Lieutenant Ethan Bishop is the officer who is in charge of making sure the decommissioned Anderson Police Precinct is permanently closed by morning but things take a turn in the quiet precinct when a prison bus makes an unscheduled stop at the precinct. During the chaos of new inmates being loaded into the precinct cells and trying to reach a local doctor for help, a man in distress runs into the precinct seeking salvation. This week at The Film club we're celebrating our 100th episode! And what better way to celebrate than reviewing the long awaited sequel to the iconic film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). In this film Leatherface and Family are back but haven't really left because multiple people have been murdered throughout Texas in random chainsaw attacks since the events of the first film. A Texas agent former Texas Ranger has been following this story for the past 10 years and finally gets his break when two college kids encounter Leatherface and their death is recorded while they were taliking to a local radio station. Shock Jock "Stretch" takes the recording of the murders to Texas Agent Lefty who has a vendetta against Leatherface. Stretch and Lefty find Leatherface's lair and Stretch is sentenced to death by the family. Leatherface is in love with Stretch and wants to save her from his family. This week at The Film Club we're kicking off August with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Franchise! Join us for this episode as we talk about the film that started it all in 1974. The film tells the story of a group of friends driving through Texas in the middle of summer to check the gravesite of Sally and Franklin's Grandfather after multiple grave sites throughout the state have been dug up and bodies have been taken. Their grandfather's remains are safe and they suggest that they should all go visit their grandfather's abandoned home. They pick up a hitchhiker along the way and all hell breaks out when the hitchhiker slices Franklin's arm with a pocket knife. After they kick out the hitchhiker they realize they're out of gas and the closest gas station won't be receiving gas until morning. The kids decided to spend the night at the grandfather's abandoned home and its a decision they'll come to regret when Leatherface and family are the nearest neighbors. This week at The Film Club we're talking about Grease! This beloved musical classic tells the story of high schoolers Danny and Sandy who meet during summer vacation fall in love but are torn apart when Sandy has to return to her home country of Australia at the end of the summer. This week at The Film Club we're talking about one of the most iconic horror films of all time, The Omen. The film tells the story of US Ambassador Robert Thorn who is expecting a child with his wife Katherine but on the morning of the birth Robert is told his child has passed away but there is a child who lost his mother during childbirth that same morning which results in Robert accepting this orphaned baby in exchange. Jumping forward five years into the future Katherine and Robert notice there is something off with their son Damien. Robert wants to remain in the dark about the strange occurrences despite multiple people warning him that things are going to get worse. Katherine becomes hospitalized and Robert finally decides to investigate more about who birthed his son. After investigating and seeing physical evidence Robert understands this child is the antichrist and he must stop him before more people are killed or injured. Can Robert stop Damien? This week at The Film Club we're kicking off our Blockbuster Movies Month with the film that started the Summer Blockbuster Tradition, Jaws. The film tells the story of a small community Amity Island which is gearing up for 4th of July weekend the busiest time of the year for the Island but plans are threatened when a string of shark attacks occur. New to town Sheriff Brody wants to close down the beaches to ensure the safety of everyone on the island until a shark hunter is able to capture this killer shark, however Amity's Mayor Larry Vaughn is in no way going to let this happen because the Island will lose profit during it's peak season. More deaths occur which pushes Brody to hire Shark expert Matt Hooper and shark hunter Quint to venture out into the ocean to kill the Great White Shark themselves. This week at The Film Club we're concluding our Nic Cage Month with one of his favorite roles of his career, Pig. The film tells the story of truffle hunter Rob who was once a successful Chef in Seattle, but after the death of his wife he couldn't cope and became a recluse. This week at The Film Club we're talking about National Treasure! The film tells the story of Benjamin Gates who is a treasure hunter and comes from a family that has a long history with treasure hunting. On his journey to find this treasure Benjamin works with a man name Ian who also wants to find the treasure but is also a very dangerous man. Benjamin, his friend Rory, and Ian follow clues until they discover the biggest clue is on the back of the Declaration of Independence. It turns into a race to get the Declaration and during this ordeal Benjamin meets Abagail who is the curator of archives where the Declaration is held. Benjamin and Rory successfully take the Declaration but are on the run from the FBI and Ian's men. Can Benjamin, Rory, and Abagail find the treasure? Or is the treasure just another story? This week at The Film Club we're doing our first ever Double Feature episode. And what better way to have a Double Feature than make it about Nicolas Cage 90s movies. We'll be discussing Nicolas Cage's Oscar winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas and one of the most epic action movies of the 90s Con Air. In Leaving Las Vegas Ben Sanderson is a raging alcoholic who's life is spiraling out of control. After his wife and child leave him he soon loses his job as screenwriter, which prompts him to make a drastic decision. This week at The Film Club we're talking about one of the most influential anime films of all time by Director Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira. The film tells the story of a dystopian Neo-Tokyo that is built after world war three destroys Tokyo. Best Friends Kaneda and Tetsuo are trying to survive this world of chaos and destruction when Tetsuo is involved in a motorcycle accident caused by a psychic child. Tetsuo is taken to a secret government facility after the accident and the doctors begin to conduct experiments on him. Tetsuo escapes but soon after begins to feel the effects of the experiments, Kaneda tries to help his best friend but Tetsuo doesn't want to be saved. Tetsuo begins to gain more power and is essentially turning into a super villain. Kaneda starts working with a spy to help find Tetsuo and how the psychic children are involved in all of this. This wizard is Howl, all the girls in town crush on him but rumor is he eats the hearts of pretty girls. This kind gesture from Howl sets off a series of events which leads to Sophie being cursed by a witch and ultimately needing Howl's help to break the curse. Meanwhile war is going on but Sophie must find Howl, and she is lead to his magical moving castle. It turns out Sophie isn't the only one needing saving Howl needs to be rescued too. This week at The Film Club we're talking about one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, Batman. This dark and brooding version of Batman directed by Tim Burton made cinema history with its storyline, interpretation of the characters, and it's marketing phenom. The film tells the story of Bruce Wayne who is a billionaire philanthropist who is still reeling from the murder of his parents and becomes the secret protector of Gotham City. Bruce tries to maintain his billionaire persona and in doing so he meets Journalist Vicki Vale of the Gotham Globe, Vicki is in town to write a story about the Batman but her and Bruce begin to fall for each other. Meanwhile the criminally insane Jack Napier who is Gangster Grissom's second in command is set up while on a heist at Axis Chemicals and this where Jack and Batman finally meet. During a scuffle with Batman Jack falls into a vat of chemicals and is presumed dead. Jack survives the fall and chemicals and is transformed into The Joker. The Joker begins his reign of terror by trying to poison the people of Gotham and while doing so he falls for Vicki Vale. The Joker kidnaps Vicki and now Bruce must save her in a fight to the death with The Joker. Can Batman save Vicki and Gotham? Or will The Joker get the girl and destroy the city? This week at The Film Club we're continuing with Mob Movie March with a film by Brian De Palma, The Untouchables. The film takes place in Chicago during the days of Prohibition and Al Capone is running the city but a wrench is about to be thrown into his plans. This week at The Film Club we're ending the month of October with Mr Halloween himself Michael Myers and his new movie Halloween Kills. Spoiler Warning! This week at The Film Club we're concluding our 80's Horror month and while we're sad to being saying goodbye to the 80's we're finishing the month with one of the greatest werewolf films of the decade and really of all time, An American Werewolf in London. David finds himself starting to change while also falling in love with an english nurse who's been caring for him since his and Jack's fatal attack in the moors. Can David prove the curse wrong? This week at The Film Club we conclude our Tribute to Cinematic Heroes month with one of the biggest Heroes of all time. It's not a bird, it's not a plane, it's Superman! That's right we'll be talking about the man of steel himself Superman, specifically the Richard Donner 1978 classic. Superman starring Christopher Reeve follows the story of Clark Kent who was sent to earth as a baby when his home planet of Krypton was destroyed and since his arrival he had to keep his powers secret.
