'Can You See It?' is the flagship podcast series from the editorial team of The Arthniti, the official ISSN-recognized undergraduate research journal of the Department of Economics, St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.
This podcast was conceived as a novel platform to make academic discussions more engaging. We bring you conversations with eminent economists from a plethora of diverse fields on all things economics and more.
Mr Subhash Chandra Garg as an IAS Officer, has served as the Economic Affairs Secretary and Finance Secretary of India. He has also served as an Executive Director in the World Bank. Mr. Garg visualises himself as a “policy analyst, policy craftsman and strategist and an advocate” for developing the right kind of economic and financial policy framework in India. Even after having left his office as the Finance Secretary, Mr. Garg remains active in the policy space with invaluable commentary on government policies on social media and on his blog.
Dr. Ajay Shah is an Economist and the co-author of the book “In Service of the Republic” with Dr. Vijay Kelkar. He has been the President of Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy and a Professor at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research and National Institute of Public Finance and Policy. He has decades of experience and expertise in the arena of Public Policy.
Dr. Nirupama Kulkarni is an applied economist and the Research Director at CAFRAL, which is promoted by the RBI. Her research interests include banking, corporate finance, household finance, and real estate. She is particularly interested in how government intervention influences bank, borrower, and household decisions. She has written many papers which have been published in well renowned journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics and The World Economy.
Dr. Tyler Cowen is a Professor of Economics at George Mason University, USA and is also serves as the Chairman and Faculty Director of the George Mercatus Centre. In 2011, Bloomberg Businessweek profiled Cowen as “America’s Hottest Economist” after his e-book, The Great Stagnation, appeared twice on the New York Times e-book bestseller list. Foreign Policy named Cowen as one of 2011’s “Top 100 Global Thinkers” for finding markets in everything and an Economist survey counted him as one of the most influential economists of the last decade.
His blog, Marginal Revolution, was named in the Top Financial Blogs of 2011 by TIME and in the Best Economics Blogs of 2010 by The Wall Street Journal.
His main research interests include the economics of culture and the relationship between technological evolution and economic growth.
Dr. Reetika Khera is an Indian economist who is currently an Associate Professor at IIT Delhi. She has also held the position of an Associate Professor at IIM-A. Her research is focused on the areas of social policy in India, including health and nutrition, education, social protection, employment, poverty, inequality, the impact of digital technologies in welfare.
Dr. Viral Acharya is the C.V. Starr Professor of Economics at NYU Stern School of Business. He has served as the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India and currently serves as an Academic Advisor to the Federal Reserve Banks of New York and Philadelphia.
Dr. Agenelo Menezes is the Head of the Department for Masters in Public Policy and the former Principal of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.
