We all want to be rescued from the things in life that are trying to weigh us down, hurt us, trip us up or ultimately kill us. The hard part- we try to rescue ourselves and fail over and over. The prodigal son wanted the inheritance and asked his father for it before he left. But the older brother never left... He stayed out of duty to the father, but what if staying got him just as lost as his younger brother? As we dig into this story more, we see that the older brother has some "baggage" just like his younger counterpart- it just looks a little different. And if we are honest, we may see ourselves more in the older brother than the younger brother at times in our life and journey.
Join us as we dive into the second act of the parable of the prodigal son. We will hear a deep message that Jesus has for the "older brothers" in life and discover once again the Father's heart not just to the younger son, but to the older son as well... and maybe even for us today.
The prodigal son wanted the inheritance of his father without the work, time, and relationship that came along with it. In the same way many of us find ourselves in places where we want the blessings, favor, and help of our heavenly father without the relationship and dedication that should come with our walk of faith.
What is truly amazing about the story of the prodigal son is that even though the father had full rights to consider his son dead and had no requirement to accept him back, he did. Not only this, but he clothed him, put sandals on his feet and a ring on his finger, and he threw a feast to celebrate. The father was so excited of the return that he didn't even regard the past actions of his son... he just wanted him home.

Silent Saturday, or Holy Saturday is a day that we don't think about much when it comes to holy week and the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ... but that doesn't mean that there weren't things that took place during this day. In our final week of Estimate we have the pleasure of Brian Blum joining us from Frontline Church. This week we are confronting the lies of the enemy that cause us to stay in the "safe" places in life when it comes to money and our stewardship. We falsely believe that there is safety in more. Listen in as Pastor Brian challenges us not to overestimate our safety while underestimating the power of faith.
Far too often we make giving back to God an emotional thing rather than an act of obedience. We convince ourselves that we will "know" when God is asking us to give, what He wants us to give towards, or that we will begin to give when we have reached a certain threshold in our financial journey. The reality is that God is not first and foremost interested in us giving back to him out of emotion, but rather out of obedience and recognition of where everything we have comes from.
It's counterintuitive to what the world tells us, but only when we fully submit in obedience to God will we truly be able to understand and experience the safety and security of His provision!
Jesus didn't leave anything to question when he talked about what we value most in our lives. He said that where we store our treasures is where our heart will be also. This means if we store up treasures in the world, our heart will remain in things of this world. As we begin this new series Pastor Kyle asks the simple yet incredibly challenging question of where are you looking for security and how does that manifest in where/how you store your treasures?
It's the final week of our series exploring the 7 churches in Revelation, and it's a challenging one! This week we look at Jesus' letter to Laodicea who He accuses of being lukewarm in their faith. Listen in as we dive into scripture and ask ourselves the question of where our own faith in Jesus may have become lukewarm.
It's week 7, and we are deep into our series on Revelation, looking this week at the church in Philadelphia! Listen in as Pastor Kyle discusses how the church in Philadelphia shows us that Jesus is our only source of stability, and that when we draw near to Him he will provide us His strength when we have no strength left on our own.
Sardis was a church that looked good from the outside. They were a fortified city, in a prominent position in society, and physically safe high up on top of a cliff... But the soul of the church didn't look the same way. Jesus criticism for the church of Sardis is that they have a reputation for being alive, but they are dead, but the glorious hope even for those in Sardis is that we serve a God who can take what was once dead and bring it back to life!
Thyatira is the smallest of the 7 churches in Revelation, yet it received the longest letter. Jesus had some very strong words for Thyatira, both commending them for their love and faithfulness and in no uncertain terms convicting them of the evil they were allowing in their midst. Listen in as Pastor Kyle challenges the church today to understand that God calls us to love, but that is not the same as tolerance. Tolerance is cheap and it can cause us to stray from the never changing truth of God's word.
This week we take a look at the church in Pergamum, a church commended for its faithfulness but also challenged for its complicity in compromising the gospel and allowing false teachings to take hold within.
We face many of the same challenges in the church today. The things of the world slowly try to creep in and take hold in our churches, and Jesus is calling the church to reject those things that run contrary to His word and return to the living breathing word of God.
We are continuing to exploring the 7 churches of Revelation in the series Jesus People. This week we dig in to Smyrna. Smyrna was a church that Jesus commended for its unwavering faithfulness, and is the only one of the 7 churches not criticized for the evil among them. Listen in as Pastor Kyle challenges us to be faithful for the long haul.
In the beginning of Revelation 2 we see Jesus' first of 7 letters to the church, and He has a lot of good things to say about the church in Ephesus. He commends them for their patient endurance, their discerning spirit, and their resistance of the false teachings that were prevalent in their time, but He also has one major challenge for them. He says they have lost, left, or (some translations) forsaken their first love.
Tune in as Pastor Kyle challenges us with where we have left the love we first had for Jesus, and how we as the collective church must return to the love of Christ.
Over the next several weeks we will be diving into the book of Revelation. Now, most people automatically think we are headed for a hell fire and brimstone/ end of the world theme when Revelation is brought up, but that's not quite where we are heading. We will be looking at the 7 letters to the churches in Revelation. In these letters, Jesus is speaking directly to His church, commending them for the things they have done well, but also challenging them in the areas they have fallen short, and we believe that there is an incredible amount of information we can gather from these letters that is applicable to the church today!
As we begin we are looking at the first chapter of Revelation, and we find John exiled on the island of Patmos where he has an encounter with the resurrected Jesus.
In our final message of 2020 we have teamed up with the churches in The Zero Collective, and their teaching pastor David Doerner has a great word for us to close out 2020 as well as a look forward to 2021.
Continuing "A Weary World Rejoices" we finally see the fulfillment of the promise of God in Isaiah 61. God wrote himself into our story through the person of Jesus, and we celebrate the coming of our savior, the messiah, Jesus Christ!
We know that our world has this huge problem we call sin, and God tells us that His son, the Messiah, is the answer to that problem, but that leaves us with another question... How are we going to respond?
Isaiah 61 says that God will make us like great Oaks that he has planted for his glory... that is if we are willing to surrender and allow him to do His work! In our final week of this series we are looking at a story of how Jesus called Zacchaeus by name and went to dine with him even though he was a chief tax collector. He would have been hated by his own people for working with the Roman government and gaining his riches by stealing from them, and yet Jesus saw him, called him by name, and left him forever changed.
When the crowds told a blind man to stop calling out to Jesus he did not stop. Not only this, but the scriptures tell us that his cries intensified. You see, the blind man that Jesus encounters in Luke chapter 18 understood a couple of things that we would be well served to remember ourselves... He knew that it wasn't enough to just be around the crowds surrounding Jesus, he wanted to be close to Jesus himself, and he knew that just because he couldn't see Jesus didn't mean Jesus couldn't see him. What happens next is a great example of how Jesus really is the Friend of Sinners.
Borders and barriers are everywhere. Some borders help to protect us or keep us safe, but other borders only serve to separate and isolate us from others. When a woman entered the home of a Pharisee uninvited and poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet I bet your could have heard a pin drop. Everyone there knew who she was. She had all kinds of labels on her, and in their minds they were rightly judging her as far from worthy to sit at the feet of Jesus... But JESUS had a very different reaction. He saw through the labels, through her appearance, and through her past.
