6th and Marquette is an area of our city some tend to avoid. However, Rusty, the host, has grown to love this area. His extensive work in the community has given him a fresh perspective. He discusses the horror of poverty, crime, inequality, and addiction among other things. However, the focus is the stories that emerge from the embers of those flames. Real people with real stories. Be prepared to laugh, learn, grow, be challenged, and hear random stories about hunting, history, life events, and experiences he's faced. He will be joined by many guests and at times his co-host, Miss Joni Johnson.
This week on Sixth and Marquette, Rusty and Traci talk with Marta, a graduate of One Eighty and Dakotah, our Women's Home Supervisor. Marta shares her story of drug use, health issues, relationship struggles and the new life she has in Jesus. She has a great story highlighting the amazing transformational work God is doing in lives at One Eighty.
This week on sixth and Marquette, Justin and Chris join Traci and Rusty to discuss all things Christmas! Chris gives his perspective as a new Christian and what it means to him. We also discuss Rusty’s new nickname, our favorite Christmas movies, and towards the end Rusty’s acknowledges that for many this Christmas is different. Stay tuned for a little encouragement and lots of laughter.
Two current residents, Todd and Tim, join Rusty and Traci to talk about what led them to One Eighty, what being in the program is like, and why Rusty's "truck" should have never even been created.
Pastor Nate Schaefer and Associate Pastor Nathan Sanchez from Passion Church join Rusty and Traci on "Sixth and Marquette". They discuss the future of Church as a whole, why they became pastors, the important part Nate Schaefer and his dad played in Rusty's story and animal chiropractic (who knew it is illegal to be an animal chiropractor in Iowa?!).
Rusty and Traci spend some time talking with Brandon and Christian who are current residents at One Eighty. They discuss the highs and lows of being in a program like One Eighty, what they love about our Career Training program, a typical day at One Eighty and which animal they think would be the rudest.

These 4 make up what we often refer to as "Team Admin" around One Eighty. This week on Sixth and Marquette, we discuss the hotly debated Juvenile Detention Center. We sit down with three community members, John De Taeye, Ann Schwickerath, and Avery Pearl. These three guests provide both statistics and their opinion on why Scott County needs to push "pause". This podcast may not be as funny as others but we think it's important to discuss this very heavy and serious issue in our community. Seth and Bryan, two graduates and employees of One Eighty, join Rusty and Traci to discuss their time in the program, being "writ" up, Bryan's story of addiction and prison, and Seth's experience of being homeless. Both these guys are examples of God's redeeming plan and we are grateful they shared their story with us. We also offer advice to those who have loved ones going through addiction struggles.

Jeremiah joins Traci and Rusty to discuss a culturally hot topic, the decriminalization and legalization of drugs. None of them are experts on the topic and this podcast is simply their experiences and opinions. They also discuss Jeremiah's first time trying a new pizza place and his unique skills of "bookbinding".
Rusty and Traci talk with Dakotah and Nicole, the Women's Home Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor at One Eighty. They talk about running the largest women's recovery program in the area, the best part of their job, the difficult choices they have to make in crisis ministry and what life is like at One Eighty.
Rusty and Traci sit down with Ben Driscoll who was the principal at Monroe Elementary when this was recorded. He has since taken a new position within the district overseeing multiple schools and continuing to make a lasting impact in the lives of the families at these schools.
Ben shares about his background, how he got into teaching, their family experiencing a fire and what he sees as the biggest needs our students are facing. We have worked with Ben and Monroe Elementary for years and it was a ton of fun to sit down and record this episode with him!
Joni and Traci join Rusty and guest, Jeremiah, for a hilarious yet extremely thought provoking conversation on Sixth and Marquette. Chad Williams joins Traci and Rusty on Sixth and Marquette to discuss the day Rusty had his stroke. Chad shares his perspective as the one that was with Rusty on the Golf Course when it happened. Rusty shares the entire story of what caused it, the physical and emotional effects, and where he is at now in his recovery.
Rusty tackles a topic that is sometimes hard to understand if you haven't lived it yourself, poverty. Understanding what causes poverty, the differences between how social classes operate and how our response to poverty can help or hinder is vital. He doesn't claim to be an expert but years of working with people from all walks of life have given him a unique perspective.
Becky is a beautiful picture of an overcomer. She joins Joni and Rusty to discuss what it's like to overcome Domestic Abuse, Addiction, and losing your mother and fiance just a few years apart. She also shares some behind the scenes stories about One Eighty, they discuss Rusty's love for Fair Taffy, and their mutual hate for ferrets.
She's one of our graduates from the early years and we are so happy she joined us.
Erin joins Joni and Rusty on Sixth and Marquette. They discuss Erin's incredible journey of loss, pain, what it's like to lose custody of your children, and what life is like now. They also share thoughts on protests and whether or not they'd join a revolution.
This week Rusty and Traci chat with DJ. DJ is a graduate of One Eighty and is the definition of an overcomer. She shares her story of being a Sex Trafficking Survivor, what it's like to sign over your rights as a mother, and describes what a hippie gathering is like. This isn't a podcast you want to miss.
On this episode of Sixth and Marquette, we talk with Bryant and Justin. Both are graduates of One Eighty. We talk about why Bryant threw away Rusty's book in jail, if prison is really that hard, the reality that Bryant was facing 132 years in prison and why it ended up not costing tax paying citizens $1,000,000, and how Justin dreams of being a skydiving bull rider.
Charlie/Charles/Chuck and Jen Hensley join Rusty on Sixth and Marquette. Charlie is one of One Eighty's first graduates. He now lives in Arizona with his wife and kids. They share their story, what it's like working on a Native American Reservation, what they miss about Iowa, and Rusty's issue with kids dentists.

If we are honest with you, this is a heavy episode. We love to laugh but you won't be laughing this time. Rusty discusses the spike in gun violence in the Quad Cities using his experience with Davenport as an example. He shares how the death of a 10 year old girl shook him personally, 5 short term and 5 long term things we can do as a community to curb the violence and some real life examples of things the community does that fights against the change we so desperately need.
We always hear, "The issues started when the Government took Church out of the schools". But in all reality, maybe the church just stopped engaging the schools. Jenny and Cheryl, both who have experience working with One Eighty, join Rusty on Sixth and Marquette to discuss how we activate the church to engage in our public school system. We also learn about Cheryl's imaginary friends.
Derrick Deboef joins Rusty and co-host, Joni, to discuss Church leadership and how we can better support leaders who are struggling. Derrick brings his unique perspective as a former arena football player, carpenter, and former pastor. He talks about why he isn't a Pastor anymore and you also get to hear a few stories of what life is like with Rusty...specifically, his mechanical skills.

Meet the designer of the Quad Cities first Tiny Homes, Joshua Arguello. Rusty and Joni sit down with him to discuss his own personal transformation, why iPhones are better than Android, and his unique connection to Sixth and Marquette.
Dr. Paul is one of our newest staff members at One Eighty but he's volunteered for a long time. He comes with an extensive background working in counseling and mental health, years of working at the jail, and a passion to help our residents. He is a great addition to the team at One Eighty and we can't wait for you to hear about his story and experiences.
Rusty and Joni interview Michael Jensen, a One Eighty Graduate. He shares how he went from atheist to Christian, gives us a great explanation of addiction, and makes us laugh quite a bit along the way.
Jenny joins us to discuss a little about how she got connected to One Eighty, the early years of Prevent and something called Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and why they matter. We also discuss the importance of volunteering and the impact that can have, even years later.

Dakotah joins us to share her perspective living in one of the neighborhoods around Sixth and Marquette that has been experiencing a large amount of gun violence. It's something a lot of us can't comprehend but for some, sitting down to dinner and hearing gun shots in your back yard is just another day.
We discuss her experiences, and also thoughts on what we can do as a community to be part of the change.
