The Real U Podcast
We are a group of educated Black men hailing from New York City infused with different cultures, opinions and personalities. What started out as a group chat name, Real University, led to us linking up to create a platform where we can talk about sh*t that matters to us and our community. This will NOT be a cookie-cutter podcast where you’re fed information that doesn’t connect or relate to us. We’re providing a space that amplifies Black excellence, breaks double standards and generates impactful conversations. Overall, we’re men first, brothers second and mentors last.
Yerrr! We’ve reached the season 1 finale. It’s been quite a journey growing with the fellas. They shared their thoughts and advice about post graduation, their experience, and reflected on past episodes. This may be the finale, but we’re not done yet.
In this episode, we touch on unpacking DJ Envy, the biases and unbiased view points from Dr. Umar, series of events that lead to canceling culture and the role it plays in the media. From Kapernick's kneeling and the ongoing battle of being Black amongst other races, we live in a world where people aren't truly heard. People cancel the way you think on different platforms (ex. social media, friend groups) to make a statement or to be the protagonist. Society has developed peoples' way of thinking of what is accepted in the way we handle certain situations. Whether it's coming from pop culture, politics or as simple economics, the world condones victimization on several different layers just to prove one point. It's Mental Health Awareness Month. As Black people, our mental health is something that is deemed as not important. Especially as Black men, we’re supposed to just deal with things internally or sometimes not at all. In this episode, we tackle the key to dealing with our own mental health, generational trauma and more. Joining us we have our special guest, Patricia Ascencio of Ascencio Styles sharing her thoughts on the matter.
In this episode, we’re talking finances. From generational wealth to financial literacy; we’re breaking down all things finances. Are you a spender or a saver? Do you often over spend? Tap in to get some insights on how you can become a better spender.

Everyday is Women's History Month when you're always uplifting women, right fellas? RIGHT.
In this episode, we highlight the importance of our Queens and the impact they've had on our upbringing. Let's be real, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for a woman's creation. We discuss how women have inspired us as men, sports and entertainment reflection on women, the double standards of equality, men being intimated by strong women and more.

In this episode, we unpack Mr. Nike himself, the kid that was buying and selling sneakers from his mothers account. We're also touching on a few things we experienced while we were at SUNY Buffalo State. We share being a first-get student, some "shoulda, coulda, woulda's" on being involved with clubs/organizations, dealing with professors, our defining moment in undergrad and more. A year later and who would've thought that we would still be in a pandemic, working from home and losing people due to COVID? What we all thought was a joke, ended up being our reality. For some, we've lost loved ones, jobs and opportunities due to the world taking a halt.
In this episode, we reflect on our individual full year since we've been on lockdown. We talk about our expectations for the virus, the precautions we took and our experiences dealing with the lost of some of our close family and friends. In this episode, we unpack the layers of toxic masculinity. For some, we are compelled to think that we need to be socially dominant and independent. But, is that all?

With Valentine's Day just wrapping up, we wanted to discuss our take on Black love within our community. For some, we've experienced the rollercoaster of being in love, having a girl and even practicing polygamy. We wanted to tap into our childhood and reflect on the type of love we were exposed to from our family, parents, past relationships, etc. Fellas, we even tap into our love languages. No shame bro!
