Occasionally you meet someone who challenges and inspires you. This was most definitely the case with Iliana Grosse-Buening, concert pianist, global entrepreneur and with a passion for Digital Wellbeing.

Rob and Iliana talk about the correlation between her love for music and her passion to enable people to connect more with those around them and themselves, by helping them think more about their #DigitalWellbeing. With her business Quiet Social Club, she is helping organisations and employees think and act differently to find an improved balance.

In the context of CDR, this is a conversation that firmly sits in Principle 3 - Societal Wellbeing.

For the past couple of years, I've been fascinated by a London clothing start up called Vollebak. Vollebak makes 'clothes from the future' - as they state, OUR CLOTHING TACKLES THE FUNDAMENTAL CHALLENGES OF OUR TIME - and specifically across their key missions of Climate, Space, Sustainability and Health.

In this episode, Rob speaks to co-founder STEVE TIDBALL about Vollebak, why they started, how they innovate and use technology to create a distinctive and disruptive clothing business for the future.

In the context of CDR, this is a conversation that firmly sits in the innovating with technology to push boundaries and explore how the future could be re-imagined.

In February, GoForIT launched the Norwegian version of the CDR Manifesto, which you can find here . My thanks to Leif, Pia and Ida for their support with that translation. A few months on, we return to Norway (virtually) to talk again with Leif, Pia and Anders about their thoughts on the need for Digital Responsibility in Norway, and the collaborative approach between public and private sector, academia, enterprise and SME that is driving the evolution of Digitalt Samfunnsansvar, or Digital Societal Responsibility. Really insightful conversation about "Wickedly complex problems" and a desire for local examples, mapped out to the Principles of the Manifesto to inspire others to follow.

My many thanks to our guests Pia Virmalainen Jøsendal, Leif Skiftenes Flak and Anders Waage Nilsen.

There was NO way we could cover all the things we wanted to in the 37 minutes of this fantastic chat with Joe, but it's well worth a listen to hear what we did cover! From Data Scientist, to UX Design Consultant at Google, to leaving to write his book "Automating Humanity", an appearance in the Social Dilemma and the current launch of his new business Datagrade, Joe talks about a common thread about privacy, data and in essence, digital human rights. It's a great conversation, and one that I'd like to revisit in a year or so to see how the business launch has progressed.

Joe Toscano, CEO and Founder of DataGrade, is a former Google Experience Design Consultant turned privacy advocate. You may have read his book, Automating Humanity, seen him as a Featured Expert in Netflix's The Social Dilemma, or watched his TED Talk, “Want to work for Google? You already do,”

In conversation with Paul Finnis, CEO The Learning Foundation and the Digital Poverty Alliance and Andrea Ravnik, Head of Amazon in the Community, UK. Paul leads the DPA, working with a range of organisations to help ensure that the impact of Digital Poverty is minimised in the UK, and more children and parts of the community who are not connected, empowered and inspired are able to play an active part in the Digital Economy. Andrea is the Amazon lead for their work in the Community in the UK and plays an active role in the DPA.

The work of the DPA - illustrated by their vision, mission and 'what we do' below - is clearly aligned to the Second and Third Principle of the International CDR Manifesto and, like the CDR movement, is referenced in the recently launched UN EP backed CODES Global Action Plan for Sustainable Planet in the Digital Age.

Our vision. To live in a world which enables everyone to access the life changing benefits that digital brings.

Our mission. To end digital poverty once and for all by 2030

What we do… We convene, compel and inspire collaboration for the UK & global community to lead sustainable action against digital poverty

In conversation with Joe Zammit-Lucia on the relationship between Business, Politics and Digital/Tech, covering everything from his latest book "The New Political Capitalism" through to Facebook and the Metaverse. We explored how and why technology is highly political. Where do responsibilities lie for a Digital Responsibility that ensures positive outcomes for society and the planet? How do we shift the focus from shiny 'technology' to what technological advances are achieving for our societies? Our conclusion is that tech businesses must take the lead to establish a much more effective collaborative process between the political/policy realms and business, big tech as well as others.

Dr Zammit-Lucia is the author of “The New Political Capitalism" (Bloomsbury, 2022). Formerly a multinational industry executive, he is an entrepreneur, business leadership advisor and founder of the RADIX network of public policy think tanks, he is a regular commentator in the international media on issues relating to business and politics.

We launched the International CDR Manifesto on the 1st October, 2021, as a year long collaborative effort between an international group of established CDR experts, academics, published authors and corporate practitioners. This work built on our own individual work, and recognised some of the other great work in this field over the past three years to bring an open source, Creative Commons framework to the market that enabled organisations to better think about the impact of their use of digital on creating a more positive impact on the planet and society.

This second of a mini-series of podcasts, with Christopher Joynson, co-founder of the Manifesto, lexplores Christopher's own introduction to CDR, his background to the collaboration and looks at vulnerability in the context of Digital Responsibility. We specifically explore the 3rd and 4th Principles of the International CDR Manifesto - Societal Wellbeing (data privacy, governance, digital maturity and digital wellbeing) and Consider Economic & Societal Impact (sustainable automation, verifiable 3rd party data & algorithms and new economic models) and look forward to further evolution in 2022.

The team behind the manifesto includes Dr Saskia Dörr, Professor Michael Wade, Tim Frick, Oliver Merx, Christopher Joynson and Rob Price, all of whom have been involved in introducing or regularly discussing definitions of CDR over the past five years.

Erica is Founder & CEO of Crypto Curry Club, the leading networking community for everyone interested in Crypto and Blockchain. Whilst in lockdown, she spent many hours writing CryptoWars, a book that "reveals some of the most shocking scams affected millions of innocent people all around the world with everything from religious leaders to celebrities involved. In this book, you get exclusive access to the back story of the most extreme Ponzi schemes, the most bizarre hoaxes and brutal exit strategies from some of the biggest charlatans of crypto."

We talk about Crypto Curry, the book and think about Crypto from the perspective of inclusion and access for all of society. What is the customer experience that delivers value for the worlds unbanked?

Too many times, especially in the UK, I see a strong focus on Data Ethics or AI Ethics, but its rare that I find a strong voice on Digital Ethics. In that context, I was delighted to recently find the Avanade global report on Digital Ethics, and to track down Chris as the man behind it. I was really looking forward to this conversation and it didn't disappoint. Great to see so many synergies between CDR and the Avanade Digital Ethics framework. As I've said many times, it matters less what we call it and more the actions that we take to drive change.

Chris McClean is the Global Lead for Digital Ethics at Avanade, a leading digital innovator with over 40,000 employees worldwide. Find out more about Avanade’s Digital Ethics practice athttps://aka.avanade.com/ethics and read the Digital Ethics report at https://aka.avanade.com/digitalethicsreport.

I've been looking forward to this conversation for a while, talking about Draft EU AI Regulations with Trish Shaw, CEO Beyond Reach Consulting and Simone Larsson, AI & ML Commercial Lead at the Digital Catapult. Trish recently wrote this article that we published as a review of the EU AI Regs, and brings a legal, regulation and standards perspective to the conversation whilst Simone in her work with AI start ups and scale ups at the Catapult brings excellent insight as to how tech businesses are responding and considering their marketplace in Europe and beyond.

The thought that I expressed at the end is that vast network each has in the world of AI, from all of a tech, policy, regulation, business, market perspective, and I absolutely recommend this as a great listen that will add insight to your own plans in this area.

Delighted to hand across the hosting reins for this episode to Mishal Noor Shahid, who talks about the impact that Inclusive Digital Initiatives can have, brilliantly brought to life in her conversation with Rotimi Soyombo and Roger Percy Lister. I was particular taken by common theme of finding your passion - living your life and earning a living by doing the things that you are most passionate about. I think this is such a key theme linked to CDR, and Defining Purpose.

I have been looking forward to this conversation for some time. Chatting with Robbie Stamp, CEO Bioss International, friend of Douglas Adams and executive producer of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy film. We explore the human response, societal response, to some of the opportunities that AI presents.

Robbie also sits on the British Standard Institute’s National Standing Committee on Artificial Intelligence and is currently working on ISO recommendations on Board Governance and AI.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts , is in attendance at the All Party Parliamentary Group on AI and formally submitted evidence to the Lords Select Committee .

He speaks regularly about the intersection of the Governance of human institutions and complex adaptive systems and contributes where he can to discussions on the ontology of data, its ‘power relationships’ with humans and the nature of human embodiment.

Prior to this, Robbie was Chairman and Chief Executive of The Digital Village, a media company founded with the late Douglas Adams, which pioneered social networks to create content on the internet.

Robbie has given two TEDx talks: at TEDxLondonSalon on digital afterlives, and at TEDxLondon on “How Grief Feels“. As the creator of the Bioss AI Protocol, he has been a regular keynote speaker at the CognitionX AI Conferences, and submitted evidence at the invitation of the UK Parliamentary Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence.

Between 1995 and 2000, Robbie was CEO of h2g2, formerly The Digital Village, the company he co-founded with the late Douglas Adams in 1995.

Fascinating discussion with Niniane Paeffgen, MD Swiss Digital Initiative about their proposed Digital Labelling scheme to give Swiss consumers increased confidence of the way in which organisations will protect and process their personal data. I thought it was particularly interesting that Niniane has so far identified 50 similar initiatives globally (all slightly different) in this embryonic space of increasing consumer confidence and finding solutions to deliver a "Trust Label"

Brilliant conversation with the inspirational Ken Banks, Head of Social Purpose at Yoti. A career in global development and empowering communities to improve is clearly an excellent basis on which to strengthen the absolute focus on ethical and social value that Yoti has in delivering identity products to the global market.

After you've listened to the conversation, have a look at a couple of the points that Ken mentions in these blog posts.

We continue the season with a focus on inclusion and access to technology. Sarah Atkinson, CEO of The Social Mobility Foundation and the wonderfully titled "The Department for Opportunities" in the UK.

"On a very practical level, if 1 in every 14  unused laptops in the UK was donated, every child in the uK would have the tools they need to learn"

If the other 13 were also donated, we could help many more children around the world, and begin to inspire them on their journey to change the world for positive outcomes.

Sarah talks about their campaign "EndLaptopPoverty" with Christopher and Rob.

In the last few weeks, I've found a group of informed and passionate people across the UK and Europe who have a common interest in CDR, Digital Ethics and Sustainability. The more I read and talk about these subjects, the more I become convinced of the value of connecting the dots - of ensuring that there is a broader international awareness of the work that is happening in each country.

This is my first article of a series leading to a longer paper, looking at the some of the work I have encountered so far. There is of course no right and wrong, as much of the work is nascent, breaking new ground.
