So the story goes: Boy and girl meet. Boy and girl date. Boy and girl become official. Boy and girl marry. Boy and girl move into a home together, and everyone lives happily ever after right? This would’ve been the case 100 years ago, but in the 21st century that timeline no longer exists. As of lately, more and more couples are deciding to tackle the roommate test before saying their I dos. And while moving boxes and making a copy of one’s key has become a normalised milestone in one’s relationship, it still has people questioning — does living together before marriage ruin relationships?
In this episode, the HUSH girls will discuss all things cohabiting — everything you need to know going into it and whether or not, living with your partner is the right thing to do for you.

The societal expectations for a woman are hard to achieve. It’s like attempting to reach an equilibrium that ceases to exist. Remember! You can be angry, but you not too angry. You can be funny, but not overly so. You can be intelligent, but not a smartmouth (it’s not ladylike!) And most importantly, you can be emotional, but never too sensitive. As women, we are constantly policed to believe that being too little or too much of something is the be-all end-all of our identities. When that shouldn’t be the case. In this episode, the HUSH girls break down these harmful stereotypes and challenge the status quo, while embracing the quirks on what it truly is like to be a woman in this day and age —female rage and all.

Have you ever heard the phrase ‘women are hard to read?’ This leaves us to wonder…really meh? Because as members of the superior gender, there could be nothing simpler. A woman who responds with ‘I’m fine’ after being asked what’s wrong —really isn’t fine. And when she tells you ‘nothing’ for the second time, you can bet that this silent treatment she’s giving you isn’t over nothing. Finally when she tells you to ‘just leave it’ —please don’t. Now if you’re a man reading this, we don’t expect you to have it all down from the get-go. Your struggle to decode us, our texts, our conversations, our behaviour, our social cues will not be in vain. But take it from us when we say, you’ll need a pen and notepad for this one, because you’re in for a full session of women speak 101.

The problem with the term "work-life" balance suggests that we can have careers, a romantic relationship, even babies, and a clean house if we just prioritise and work harder at "balancing" our lives. And, if we are good at this, we might even get some "me-time" to spend on ourselves. But we all know that this is further from the truth. 3
In this episode, Hazelle, Azura, Germaine and our invited guest, Sangeeta, get real about juggling the success of their craft and personal life. They’ll discuss the realities of hustling, what they had to give up in order to pursue their dreams, and if it is really worth it.

It’s no wonder why some say a breakup can be worse than bereavement. When someone leaves you because of death, they are gone forever, whereas, with an ex, they’re still alive when they leave. This makes it harder for those who have seen the end of their relationship grieve the loss as they are able to see and watch in pain as their exes move on without them.
But for some, a break-up isn’t necessarily the end of a relationship. Those who choose to remain as friends still spend time and grow old together. Time heals all wounds, they’ll probably say. Which do you relate to?
In this episode Hazelle, Germaine, Azura and our guest, singer-songwriter Marcus Lee, discuss reasons why you can or cannot stay friends with your ex; share their experience healing from breakups and answer why trust between partners is the most important aspect of a relationship.

Stigma and embarrassment often see many of us suffer in silence for common and treatable conditions. There are probably more people than you think who suffer from those ‘embarrassing’ health issues that you might have like overly frequent urination, vaginal discharge, and bladder, bowel or period problems. We’re just too paiseh to talk about it.
In this episode, Hazelle, Azura, Germaine and our invited guest Fiza O, discuss common awkward and potentially embarrassing health issues that we kept secret way too long.

A woman is born with a finite number of eggs that continuously depletes over her lifetime. Women tend to be most fertile in their twenties or early thirties, after which the quality of their eggs decreases. This also means that the possibility of having children - if we want them - becomes harder - but maybe it doesn’t have to be.
In this episode of Hush Podcast, Hazelle, Azura and Germaine talk about fertility, social egg freezing and how all of these affect family, life and career.

When it comes to what we wear - women just can’t seem to win. Our clothing choices are constantly held under the microscope. We have been told to cover up, but also to “not be a prude”. But how much skin is too much skin? How much of a woman's leg is acceptable to see in public? It’s time to recognise that our clothing is not the problem.
In this episode, Hazelle, Azura, Germaine and guest Jasmine Sokko discuss the unnecessary policing of women’s clothes, and fashion as an identity. They share with us personal stories from when they were judged for what they wear and their opinions on the topic.

Our emotional state usually determines the way we behave, and men and women relate to their emotions in different ways. When upset, women are more likely to directly express their feelings and seek support from friends and family, while men may hide their emotions or withdraw, often feeling that they need to be self-reliant. It doesn’t help that these behaviours are reinforced in the stereotypes and are often portrayed in popular culture.
In this episode, Hazelle, Azura, Germaine and our invited guest, Yung Raja, discuss if women are really more emotionally expressive than men; and debunk myths about men and their emotions.

The pandemic has taken a significant toll on our mental health. More people in Singapore across different age groups are reportedly seeking help for mental health issues. While some of us are happy with the work from home arrangement, others are faced with deteriorating emotional health due to the loss of access to out-of-home activities, and being stuck at home in unconducive environments like poor family relationships and/or abusive parents.
In this final part of Hush Podcast’s #WFH special, Azura, Hazelle and Germaine discuss how working from home has impacted our mental health both negatively and positively, and they also share with the listeners some of the things they can do to reduce stress and keep their mental health in check.

The pandemic has made e-commerce and online shopping the new normal - we buy everything online: from groceries to clothes, to even products that we would otherwise feel embarrassed to buy in stores. While it makes sense for us to shop online as we are discouraged to leave our homes, somehow we find ourselves feeling embarrassed whenever a new parcel comes at the door, and hide our purchases from our parents, siblings or spouses. Why do we do that and why do we feel that way?
In this second part of our #WFH special, Hazelle, Azura and Germaine discuss shopping habits since the pandemic and talk about all the silly things that we do to conceal this new normal.

In mid-May of 2021, Singapore’s government announced its return to Phase 2 Heightened Alert (P2HA), and introduced new COVID19 Safe Management Measures (SMM), forcing many of us to go back to working from home to reduce community transmission. Our Hush Podcast hosts Azura, Germaine and Hazelle, who are also colleagues at work, were additionally told to minimise contact among each other making it impossible for them to meet and putting a hold on our plans for a season 3. But work from home or not, we’re still bringing the girls back - via online this time - in this 3 part #WFH special to catch up and talk about things they do and think about during this P2HA.
In this first part of our #WFH special, the Hush girls confess to some of the out of the ordinary things they do while stuck at home, and talk about the things they do to relieve stress: from exercising, journaling, to spending way more time than they usually do online shopping.

How many times have you blamed your parents for “sabotaging” your relationships even when the actions were of your own? Whether it’s a form of mirroring the love you’ve gotten from your parents or filling a love gap that you’ve never received, you’re not completely wrong. Apparently, how you give and receive love in a relationship is greatly influenced and shaped by your parents. Some researchers suggest that our first experience with love and emotions is with our parents, and those early years set the bar for what we want out of love or relationships later in our lives.
In this episode, Azura, Germaine, Hazelle and our invited guest, Narelle Kheng, discuss these complicated relationships we have with our parents, peers and romantic partners. They’ll share some funny love stories, including the good, the bad and the ugly and how they think their upbringing plays a part in it.
