A new faith tribe (uninterested in tribalism) seeking to provide space for people to become better human beings.
Hi everyone, this is Cary and Annie talking about an interview Cary and myself (JF) had with Bonnie Rambob. Confused about that sentence? Well, don't be. Just listen. You'll get it.
Bonnie is a pastor, writer, book editor, teacher, and doctoral student. She and her husband, Rajeev are part of two podcasts: Haystacks and Irenicast, where among other things, they talk about theology, children, parenting and their transition out of mega-conservative backgrounds. I loved this conversation with Bonnie (and then listening to Cary and Annie debrief about the conversation).
Thanks everyone! Check out missiofaith.life for more resources.
Hey everyone, I'm joined today by my long time friend, Tammy Vogt. Tammy and her husband James have pastored over the years, been through some ups and downs, thought critically about their faith, shifted, and evolved. (Sound familiar?) Most recently she's started an online community called www.soultogether.life and is a life coach and spiritual mentor to folks from around the country who are trying to figure out what they believe. (Again, sound familiar?) I hope you'll find her online if you want to have a conversation with her.
Meanwhile, thanks for listening. You're welcome to subscribe, leave some stars, and share this with a friend. And don't forget to check out the resources at missiofaith.life. Blogs, chatrooms, videos, children's book reviews, and more. Peace!
Hey, it's episode 6 with my friend, Dr. Johan Tredoux. Johan is an author, a theologian, and was a pastor for over 3 decades. He's been through a lot of transition in his life and has a very interesting insight into why certain people can change (or how) and certain people cannot. We talk about all kinds of things (too many to mention here) so I know you're going to find this helpful.
Track him down on Facebook by searching for Johan Tredoux. Also he's starting a new open and relational theology group that will be meeting on Thursday nights. If you'd like to meet with other folks who like deep conversations this group could be for you!
Thanks. If you find this helpful at all, give it a review, share it with a friend, leave a comment or just do something with it! And check out missiofaith.life for resources about how to be a better human being. Thanks, everyone, Jonathan
Whatsup friends, Cornell Ellis leads https://www.theblockc.org which is dedicated to advancing the connecting, development, and engagement of Black men working in education. I met him at the Hope Walk a couple of years ago and we've become good friends. He's got some insight for being a young man and I'm always surprised at how similar our theology is, even though we use different language. So, I think you're going to dig this.
Thanks for tuning in. Like, subscribe, and share with friends. Especially caucasian the type. And learn more about all things missio at www.missiofaith.life!
This is the second part of the two-part conversation with Amy. Hope you find it helpful. Check out missiofaith.life for more resources, ideas, theology, and ways to be a better human.
Time for episode 3 and this time I’m joined by my friend, Amy Cain, a professor, doctoral student, licensed counselor, and most importantly, a grandmother! I put some of her official bio down below.
Amy and I talk about dealing with change, with being your authentic self, about why counseling often seems to help people more than the church (I know, scandalous to say). And then about the time we started talking about boundaries, I decided we should make this into two episodes, so yes, this is Part I of what we’re calling, “Unconditional Positive Regard.” It fades out at the end, but you can pick it right back up in the very next episode which is entitled, wait for it, Part II. Yes, brilliant.
Thanks. If you find this helpful at all, give it a review, share it with a friend, leave a comment or, IDK, do something with it! And check out missiofaith.life for resources about how to be a better human being. Thanks, everyone, Jonathan
In addition to teaching at the graduate and post-graduate level, Amy continues to have a small private practice specializing in trauma, loss and grief, and adoption issues along with providing post-graduate clinical supervision.
She embraces an integrative approach to counseling, believing that cognition, affect, and somatic experiencing are all vital to mental health and healing. She has specialized training in play therapy and enjoys utilizing expressive techniques with adult clients and supervisees.
Amy is married to Daniel. They have two sons (Hayden and Landon), a daughter-in-law (Bekah), and two adorable grandchildren (Adley and Easton). She enjoys taking walks on the flat streets of Kansas and hiking anywhere the elevation exceeds 1000 ft (Colorado mountains are her favorites!).
A conversation between Jonathan, Annie, and Cary about theological deconstruction, LGTBQ+ human beings, and whether they refer to themselves as Christian or not.
“People believe, but they believe differently than they once did. The theological ground is moving; a spiritual revolution is afoot. And there is a gap between that revolution and the institutions of religious faith.” -Diana Butler Bass
Welcome to the missio podcast. We're glad you're here. This is a new thing we're doing, well, transitioning from the old thing (e.g., Mission Church) to the new thing (e.g., missiofaith.life). We're excited about it as we think our culture needs new things, especially when it comes to life, faith, religion, God, and humanity. BTW, all things we'll talk about on this podcast!
"The more one studies attempted solutions to problems in politics and economics, in art, philosophy, and religion, the more one has the impression of extremely gifted people wearing out their ingenuity at the impossible and futile task of trying to get the water of life into neat and permanent packages." - Alan Watts, The Wisdom of Insecurity (p. 14)
