Isla Short is aprofessional cross-country cyclist who recently competed in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and is also a UofG alumnus and former UofG Sport bursar. Tracylee McKigen is a gym owner, fitness instructor and former UofG Sport Active Lifestyles teacher.
Both of our guests have been diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that effects the tissue of the womb, ovaries and fallopian tubes. As periods and reproductive issues are still seen as a taboo subject in the sporting world, we had an open discussion about the impact this condition has on female athletes. This includes training, pain management and the importance of an early diagnosis.
Andrew Cotter is a world-renowned sports commentator, working primarily for the BBC and covering events including The Boat Race and international rugby tournaments.
Andrew grew up in Troon, Ayrshire, and joined the University of Glasgow in 1991, studying French and Philosophy. His career in sports broadcasting started in 2000, and has since covered everything from golf and rugby to his dogs, Olive and Mabel – Andrew's YouTube videos commenting on the lives of his dogs have had over 90 million views!
Neah Evans is a professional track cyclist and current postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow. In 2021 alone, Neah achieved a Silver medal in the Team Pursuit at the Tokyo Olympics, a Gold in the Madison at the European Championships and a bronze in the Madison at the World Championships.
Neah completed an undergraduate veterinary degree at the University of Glasgow and has continued her postgraduate studies alongside her professional cycling career. In this podcast we explore how Neah embarked on a cycling career, what keeps her motivated and why study alongside her training programme is so helpful to her.
We also meet with Prof Nick Jonsson, a professor of Animal Health in MVLS, and Alan MacKay, a graduate of the university who contributes to UofG Sport's Bursary Programmme. Both Nick and Alan have been vital support to Neah as she has progressed on and off the track, and we learn first-hand what a difference their contributions have made.

For our first episode, it's a great pleasure to interview our newly-installed Chancellor at the University of Glasgow, Dame Katherine Grainger.
Born and raised in Glasgow, Katherine is the first British athlete to win medals at five consecutive Olympic Games, achieving Gold in the Rowing Double Sculls at London 2012.
Alongside her Olympic achievements, Katherine has a black belt in karate, an undergraduate degree, MPhil and PhD in law, became Chair of UK Sport in 2017, and was appointed our first female Chancellor at the University of Glasgow in 2020 – welcome to #TeamUofG Katherine!
