Amanda Duncan was born in Cary, NC, but currently resides in Wilson with her husband and their four sons. She is also finishing up an associates degree in mental health and plans to continue working towards a graduate degree in developmental psychology. She opened her first business, Simply Adorned 79, in August 2018. Simply Adorned 79 is a jewelry business specializing in earrings and bracelets that are designed in a graphics software, then cut with a CO2 laser. Amanda hand-dyes each jewelry piece and assembles it for wear. With little to no business experience, Amanda sought out mentors and invested a tremendous amount of time in growing this business that now serves over 50 retailers across the U.S.

The Selkie is Amanda's newest business venture in Historic Downtown Wilson that opened in January 2021. Amanda's love for the varied creative talent from across the state inspired her to open an eclectic gift shop that features handmade & hand-assembled merchandise as well as social good & large-scale manufacturing businesses. Currently, customers can shop over 100 NC-based businesses within walking distance of the iconic Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park.

In this episode, Amanda offers incredible wisdom from her experience on the key ingredients to start and build a business, have a strong marriage, and keep a positive mindset even when you fail.

Remember how that made you feel about that person and the relationship. Imagine how your life and relationships would be affected if every time you made a commitment you kept a commitment.

Here's how to avoid that wasted time, and worrying about the interest rate.
