This is a great devotion to make reparation against the blasphemies and the profanation of Sundays, as well as to oppose the words of humanistic revolutionaries. Pope Pius IX said "This salutary reparation to the Holy Face of Jesus is a divine work, destined to save modern society."

In Acerbo Nimis, Pope St. Piux X stresses the necessity and importance of teaching Christian doctrine. He points to the ignorance of Christian doctrine of so many modern people. This is a terrible tragedy and needs to be rectified as he echoes the words of Pope Benedict XIV, “We declare that a great number of those who are condemned to eternal punishment suffer that everlasting calamity because of ignorance of those mysteries of faith which must be known and believed in order to be numbered among the elect.” The solution is good Catechesis using the Catechism of the Council of Trent, which is to be desired above eloquent sermons.

All Catholics are required to observe a 1 hour fast from all food and drink, except water, before receiving communion. This is the absolute minimum, a concession that was given dispensing us from the traditional fast. However, even though this concession exists, we are still strongly exhorted to observe the traditional fast if we are able.

If any person seeks to be united with the Church, the body of Christ, he must confess what the Catholic Church teaches.

Formerly this oath was required by all priests, religious superiors, and anyone teaching them to be said before they could take their office. In this episode I read some exerpts from Fr. Ripperger's book the Binding Force of Tradition and provide some comments and try to distill what is being said. As we learned in the previous episode, tradition binds and informs our Faith. So the question is how do we determine what is part of the Tradition? How do we determine the degrees of certitude and how much they bind us for various theological propositions and traditions? Theological notes and their contradictions will help us to discover this. In this episode we'll look at the following theological notes vs their denials:

De fide definita and de fide non-definita vs Heresy

Proximate to de fide vs proximate to heresy

Theological certainties vs propositions savoring or suspect of heresy

Common teachings vs erroneous propositions

Theological opinion (split into probable, more probable and well founded)

Pious opinion

Tolerated opinion
There are also negative propositions such as:

A proposition badly expressed

A capitious proposition

A proposition exciting scandal
We cover all of these things and show why all the traditions must be revered and passed on.
