Before project-based learning was all the rage, there was the Madera Method, a tried and true historical research technique founded in 1985 by retired educator Bill Coate and his class of sixth-graders at Howard School in Madera, California. Applauded by renowned biographer Irving Stone, the Madera Method prompts student inquiry into primary sources which ultimately leads students to write historical narratives. The Madera Method Podcast presents the cumulation of such student-led research conducted by Historical Literacy students at Madera South High School. Listen as students discuss ongoing research and conduct interviews related to their research topics.
